Importing and parsing Excel spreadsheets

Hi,
I am trying to import an Excel Spreadsheet, extract the
necessary information, and then post that information into a
database. Even if I save the Excel Spreadsheet as an XML document,
it loses some of its characteristics and becomes difficult to
parse. What should I do in this case to preserve the Excel format
and extract the relevant information for my application.

Take a look at this!!!!

  • Import and edit Excel 2004 graphs?

There are specific features of Office 2004 that cannot be reproduced anywhere else it seems  – specifically Excel 2004's ability to print a graph to a specific size.
So I have to keep separate Snow Leopard (the last OS with Rosetta) machines because of this.  Snow Leopard won't run off external drives on newer machines.
Is there any other software that can import and edit Excel graphs? I receive all my manuscripts from authors with these, but they need standardising to common formats for publication - there are many and there is no time to remake each graph from scratch. Only Excel 2004 under Snow Leopard seems to be the only way of printing (esp to pdf) these graphs to size. According to Microsoft this is a 'known issue' in 2008 and 2011.
    Help!

Can't answer you but am responding in hopes someone else can.
Disclaimer: I no longer have 2004 or 2008 and am using 2011 now.
Exchanging chart images (whether tiff, png, pdf, jpg) is always a challenge - not only between different OS and applications but also within same OS.
Editing the chart itself that you receive would be a good trick if you mean editing the columns, lines etc.
I think one solution would be to get the authors whom you deal with to standardize their output and format(s).
Once in a while I found that importing an object into PowerPoint (2011) as an interim step has helped.

  • Importing data from Excel Spreadsheet into SOP

    Hi,
Can anyone please tell me where I can find instructions on how to import data into SOP form an Excel spreadsheet. I know there is a used exit MCP20001 EXIT_SAPMMCP6_001 but I don't see a transaction to execute this import exit from. Please help/clarify.
    Thank you
I will award points to all who respond with useful information on importing info into SOP

    Dear,
Please note the info structure os not different for different versions. ALl inactive versions are also storead in the same info struture.
The info structure will be different only of the planning type is different. For standard SOP the info stucture is S076.
You could also create your own info structures for the planning types you have created using flexible planning.
For copying within the same info structures use transaction MC78. Here select the inactive version in the source and select the active version in the target. The copy with the button given for this.
Within the MC87 copying is only possible between different info structures.
    Hope this helps your understanding.

  • How Can I Open and Use Excel Spreadsheets on my Mac?

I am trying to find out how to work with Excel (.xls) files on my Mac.  I have the latest updates on my OS but my Numbers is about 3 yrs old.
I am able to work with the file on the Forum website, make adjustments.. but that is discouraged.  The owners encourage me to copy the .xls file to my computer and work with it there and finally submit it for critique.
When I copy the file to the Mac, it seems to come in as a Numbers file.. at least that's what it is when I open it.  When I work with cells, none of the algorithms work.. IOW, nothing changes with the results.
    What have I tried..?
I have put Open Office on the computer.  That supports Excel files.  But I guess my old mind doesn't know how to "import?" the .xls file on my desktop into OO.  So, I have not been able to make changes.  Possibly I am not seeing what needs to be done.
I have also clicked on the file icon. Right clicked on it and selected "Get Info" and said to open the file in Open Office.  Nothing happened when I actually tried to open that file.
I'm at a loss and this is pretty important.
I'm quite surprised that Numbers doesn't seem to allow working with .xls files  I'm hoping I'm missing something

    Thanks for the rapid replies...
I have NO problem opening the files.  As I stated in my OP, it is all about WORKING with the file.  IOW, this is a file to help me brew beer with changes in equipment size/configuration.. or simply changing a recipe.
When I change the size of my brew kettle, the algorithms should modify parameters in different places to modify how much water I would have to use, how much boil off I should expect.. etc etc.  Or if I want to modify the batch size of the brew from 20 gallons to 5 gallons.. when I imput that data, the recipe should change accordingly.  When I do this on the forum site.. it works.  When I import it the algorithms don't change the numbers.
What I get when I open the file, even as suggested by 'kkaufmann87" is that
"Unsupported formulas were replaced by the last calculated value".... which were the values I had when I copied the file to my computer.
Kolgrath.  This question was suggested by another person on that beer forum.. and Google Docs will not work either.

  • Numbers Import and Load Performance Problems

Some initial results of converting a single 1.9MB Excel spreadsheet to Numbers:
    _Results using Numbers v1.0_
Import 1.9MB Excel spreadsheet into Numbers: 7 minutes 3.5 seconds
Load (saved) Numbers spreadsheet (2.4MB): 5 minutes 11.7 seconds
    _Results using Numbers v1.0.1_
Import 1.9MB Excel spreadsheet into Numbers: 6 minutes 36.1 seconds
Load (saved) Numbers spreadsheet (2.4MB): 5 minutes 5.8 seconds
    _Comparison to Excel_
Excel loads the original 1.9MB spreadsheet in 4.2 seconds.
    Summary
Numbers v1.0 and v1.0.1 exhibit severe performance problems with loading (of it's own files) and importing of Excel V.x files.

    Hello
It seems that you missed a detail.
When a Numbers document is 1.9MB on disk, it may be a 7 or 8 MB file to load.
A Numbers document s not a file but a package which is a disguised folder.
The document itself is described in an WML extremely verbose file stored in a gzip archive.
Opening such a document starts with an unpack sequence which is a fast one (except maybe if the space available on the support is short).
The unpacked file may easily be 10 times larger than the packed one.
Just an example, the xml.gz file containing the report of my bank operations for 2007 is a 300Kb one but the expanded one, the one which Numers must read, is a 4 MB one, yes 13,3 times the original.
And, loading it is not sufficient, this huge file must be "interpreted" to build the display.
As it is very long, Apple treats it as the TRUE description of the document and so, each time it must display something, it must work as the interpreters that old users like me knew when they used the Basic available in Apple // machines.
Addind a supplemetary stage would have add time to the opening sequence but would have fasten the usage of the document.
Of course, it would also had added a supplementary stage duringthe save it process.
I hope that they will adopt this scheme but of course I don't know if they will do that.
Of course, the problem is quite the same when we import a document from Excel or from AppleWorks.
The app reads the original which is stored in a compact shape then it deciphers it to create the XML code. Optimisation would perhaps reduce a bit these tasks but it will continue to be a time consuming one.

  • Can I use excel spreadsheets on my new iPad

I have just bought the new iPad and was wondering if I could send and receive excel spreadsheets and also edit them as I do on my PC

Yes you can as long as you download an app that can edit spreadhseets.
Apple's Numbers app is one app that will edit Excel files. Documents to Go Office Suite is another app that will edit Excel files.

  • Detect fields and edit imported Excel spreadsheet

i would like to know how I can detect fields for imported Excel spreadsheets so I can add and edit the spreadsheet

I have an excel spread sheet that i would like to import into form central & I would like the fields to be editable by other users.  When i try exporting the excel file as a PDF Form Central  I get this message "FormsCentral could not import the PDF document because it does not contain interactive form fields. You need to add fields to your PDF using Adobe Acrobat and import again" Is there any other way for me to do this or do i have to purchase a version of Adobe Acrobat?

  • Automating import of Excel spreadsheets

    Hi,
I have a requirement to regularly import data contained in various Excel spreadsheets into the database.
Assuming I can get the users to upload the spreadsheets to the database server (using Application Express), how do I load the spreadsheet data?
    My restrictions are
    - Our users can not be expected to convert the Excel files to csv files
    - No third party software (converters, ODBC drivers, etc) can be used
    Thanks
    Andy.

I currently have the same situation so what I did is that I saved the Excel spreadsheet as a tab delimited file and created a batch file to call SQL Loader and then write codes in Oracle Form to call this batch file when user click a button using host().
I also created a macro in Excel so user can hit a short-cut key to create the tab delimited file so developer don't have to get involved with this process. 3 easy steps and this works like a charm!
To call SQL Loader at command prompt:
    C:\oracle\ora92\bin\sqlldr userid=username/password@databasename control=SQLLoaderCtl.txt log=SQLLoaderCtl.log bad=SQLLoader.bad
ps. you can also use TEXT_IO to read the text file and parse the data but because I have more than 80 columns so I decided to use SQL Loader since it's easier.

  • IMporting Excel Spreadsheets

    Hello
We recently upgraded RH in our company from x5 to HTML 6,
build 099. In a project I worked on with X5, I had imported Excel
spreadsheets saved as html and generated a primary layout without
any problem. However, in 6, when I would generate a layout, it
would get to Updating Files and RH would crash without any error. I
narrowed it down to 10 html files that were all Excel spreadsheets
saved as html and imported into my project in x5. If I deleted
those 10 files, the project would generate the layout. If I
imported any of those files, it would crash again.
To recreate the spreadsheets in RH wold just be too time
consuming, and really inefficient as I expect to get regular
updates on these spreadsheets to have available on this website via
our intranet. Has anyone encountered this before? and
    recommendations?
    Thanks!

Hi BradPrid and welcome to our community
Did these spreadsheet files have any conditional text
applied? If so, I believe a problem exists with merged table cells
(which seem quite likely coming from Excel) when you use
    conditional text.
If you can't seem to sort it, one thought would be to simply
import the Excel HTML files as baggage files. Then simply link to
    them or maybe use redirects.
    Cheers... Rick

  • C# Script to open and read an Excel spreadsheet with multiple worksheets

Can someone provide me the C# syntax and Edit Script to open an Excel spreadsheet with multiple worksheets and then using the data to create and output a .csv file? The multiple worksheets contain different data elements that I'll need to parse out and then

  • Is it possible to create a form that allows users to import data from an excel spreadsheet

I have not been able to start my reading on scripting or other livecycle features to be able to try to figure this out but I was wondering if anyone else had ever created a form with this feature or had any ideas of how it would be possible.  Our company currently uses and excel form that would have a variable number of rows of data for each time it is filled out and we would be replacing it with an adobe form.  I would like to know if the users, who will be using the new adobe form in adobe reader, could have the capability to imort the lines from the previous excel form into the new adobe version.

    Hi,
You can set up a data connection with an Excel spreadsheet. However for the data connection to work for users with Reader, you would need to Reader Enable the form with the LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2.5 (server component). See here for summary: http://assure.ly/etkFNU.
However if you are just trying to get the existing data into the form, you should have a look at some of Stefan Cameron's posts: http://forms.stefcameron.com/ (try a search). You can start a new form using the wizzard and select import from Excel. This will allow you to paste from your spreadsheet to a new form. This should help set up the data structure/schema, which you can then replicate in a new form. I haven't done this before, but it should be possible.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Error message using SQL import and Export Wizard with Excel spread sheet

I am trying to import an Excel spreadsheet using the Import export wizard that is provided with SQL 2014.
Everything seems to set up OK but then when I go to do the transfer "error message" comes up saying:
External Table is not in the expected format.(Microsoft Jet Database Engine).
This is a spreadsheet and there is no database, that is why I want to import it into a database!!  So the reference to JET is a tad disappointing.
So why the error and how do I fix the problem?
As there are over 100 variables in the spread sheet rows, it would be great to have this automatically create the database and populate the fields.
I am using SQL 2014  Express and Office Excel 2013.
Thank you in  advance for taking the time to read this, and hopefully sheading some light on the issue.

    Hi AWlcurrent,
When import a .xlsx file to SQL Server using SQL Server Import and Export Wizard, you see a “External Table is not in the expected format.(Microsoft Jet Database Engine).” error message. This error message seems that the Microsoft JET Database Engine is
unable to handle something that is contained in the file.
So please make sure there is no unsupported content in the Excel file. Alternatively, we can use ‘Microsoft Excel’ as the Data Source, then Select ‘Microsoft Excel 2007’ as the Excel version to import the excel file.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Problem while parsing Rulebase Excel Spreadsheet

    Hi All,
My program was running using OPA Determination Engine libraries.
Apparently when trying to parse a rulebase excel spreadsheet, the OPA regards one attribute as unknown even though it has been listed as empty in the excel spreadsheet's cell.
    My Data has this information
    field1 = XXX
    field2 = YYY
    field3 = ZZZ
    field4 = empty
The excel spreadsheet contains this information
row1: field1 is empty, field2 is empty, field3 is empty, field4 is AAA
row2: field1 is XXX, field2 is YYY, field3 is ZZZ, field4 is empty
    Decision Report:
    Can't draw conclusion because
    field1 = XXX
    field2 = YYY
    field3 = ZZZ
    and field4 is unknown
    Any suggestion for this?

I think you are making this more complicated than it needs to be. Based on your description above of the logic, I wouldn't even be using Excel at all, and I wouldn't be doing it as a rule table in Word either.
Using dummy attribute text which I'm just making up for the purpose of this example, it sounds like you're logic can be represented with the following simple regular Word rule:
    the person is happy if
the first text variable = "AAA" or
    all
.....the first text variable = "XXX" and
.....the second text variable = "YYY" and
.....the third text variable = "ZZZ"If you write it as a regular Word rule like this, then the conclusion WILL evaluate to TRUE if the only data you provide is the following:
the first text variable = "XXX" and
the second text variable = "YYY" and
the third text variable = "ZZZ"
[As an aside... depending on what you're doing and what your real rules actually are, you might also want to separately stick a Boolean attribute over the top of each of these variable attributes and then use the Booleans in the rest of the rulebase. However, I wouldn't bother with the extra Booleans if you're just having a bit of a play around with OPA, or if you're just building a simple little demo.
If you are doing anything more than just having a bit of a look at OPA, then I strongly suggest that you consider some proper OPA training anyway.]
