Importing email addresses from a text file

I have a db on one of my websites that I maintain for my client. I can download that db as an Excel file. This db has many fields.
Once I download that Excel file I open and sort it for just the email addresses I want. Then I copy and paste those email addresses in plain RTF text file. So, now I have a long list of email addresses. I then have to put a comma after each one and then saved that file.
Here's my question"
What I want to do next is import that RTF list into Mail (somehow) as a group so I can send out a couple of hundred emails at a time to my customers in the Bcc box. And if I understand it correctly, since all those addresses are in the Bcc box those who receive those emails will only see their email address in the To: box.
So how can I do this? How can I take this RTF file bring it into Mail and get this done.
First time on this forum.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Martin
I have been seeking answers on this forum for a problem you will encounter (but may not have yet). Firstly, you will want to import your DB files into AdressBook, not Mail. IN AddressBook you sort your contacts into groups for email or whatever. The Mail Program then uses that data to fill in its fields.
The problem I have been having is that AddressBook seems like it should import, indeed looks like it should do it very simply, but ..... simply doesn't do it when you click the "OK" button.... as you might expect. I have not found the answer here yet, but suspect that its an OS development snafu and must needs be done another way. Some replies seem to suggest a solution at Versiontracker. com
Good luck

  • Read email adress from a text file then check the validity of them

a text file has three lines, each line contains one email adress:
    [email protected]
    qwe@@ws.com
    wer//@we.net
read the email address from a text file, then check which one is invalid, output the invalid email adress in the console.

no 3 .umm, an email adress can have more than 2 '.'s in it,
    example:
    [email protected]
would be a valid email address.
To decide what a valid address is you'd need to parse it against the correct standard.
I think however that javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress does this for you, check out the docs:
    http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/1.2/docs/javadocs/javax/mail/internet/InternetAddress.html
even if it parses it may not be a valid address though in that it may not actually exist.

  • TS1541 I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Help please.

I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Do I need to delete my address book software and reinstall? If so, what is the proper way to do this? New to Macbook software. I have tried several things and nothing has helped. I have backed up photos, movies, etc. My addresses are on my iphone so I can sync them later right if I loose my data?
Thanks for your time and expertise,
    T.

You can probably resolve this by removing some Address Book preference files rather than deleting your Address Book application.
First turn off Synchronize in Address Book Preferences if you can.
Next restart Address Book and try to export everything to your Desktop.
I have had a play and found my Address Book preference files. In the following ~/Library is the Library within your Home folder. Any numerals may differ on your Mac. Quit Address Book before doing anything with these.
1 - Display details and things set in Address Book Preferences
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
2 - Has no data - not sure what this does
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
3 - Has last sync date - may have more if I used sync
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.AddressBook.sync.000393735c06.plist
    4 - My contact details
    /Library/Preferences/AddressBookMe.plist
5 - Individual addresses and groups stored as separate files within:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
6 - All of these addresses are are also in this single database:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
If you wish to remove all addresses drag both 5 & 6 to your Desktop.
If you wish to reset preferences drag 1 your Desktop.
Removing 3 may resolve sync issues but I am unable to test this.
If you wish to reset everything drag all except 4 to your desktop.

  • Can I import email addresses from a contact group into a new email?

Import email addresses?  I'm trying to send an electronic invitation to a group of about 50 people.  I have to enter each of their email addresses, and rather than typing them one by one, I'm wondering if I can import all of their email addresses from a group I created in my Address Book.  I'm sending the invitation through the company's website, nut my email, so the email address does not appear when I start typing their names.  Thanks!

Open a new message and start typing the groups name in the 'To' field works for me. Some e-mail providers have limits on how many addressees can be in one e-mail.

  • Is it possible to create a cc'd email address from a text field that connects to a submit button?

I was told I should submit this question to the scripting forum... I am wondering if this is at all possible in Acrobat, because so far I have not been able to do it, but a client would like us to:
I have a "Submit Request" button that includes the email addresses of desired recipients of a PDF form. But the client also wants the person who is filling out the form to be cc'd in the email that is sent to other recipients. So in the field where the person enters their email address on the form, is it possible to somehow have that email address show up in the cc'd section of the email that is sent when the person hits the "Submit Request" at the bottom of the form?
As far as I can see, the only way to get the form emailed to anyone is to list pre-chosen email addresses in the actions section of the submit button. This is why I haven't been able to figure out how to get a randomly entered email address in a text field to also be cc'd.
Hope this makes sense and any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you!

Nevermind, I just did a little research and found the answer:
in Acrobat Pro v9 go to the menu and select Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader...
In Acrobat Standard v9 go to the menu and select Advanced > Extend Forms Fill-in & Save in Adobe Reader...
You can now save the form with your data.
Thanks again for your help with the script, our form is now working exactly the way we wanted it to!

  • Importing Email Addresses from TextEdit Document?

I have been sent over 1000 email addresses to add to my Address Book for mailouts.
The emails have been sent in nothing more than a simple text document, with each email on its own line. It's not a vCard or a CSV or anything like that. Just straight up addresses sent via email.
What would be the easiest way to add these email addresses to Address Book?
    Thanks!

If there are commas separating the values (John,Doe,[email protected]) then the file extension should be .csv. If there are tabs (John Doe [email protected])(here I have used spaces instead of tab; it should be a real tab) the extension should be .txt. But it your file has only one field ([email protected]) then Address Book won't know how to handle it. In that case pull it into Excel, fill the 2nd column with rubbish, and save it as csv. When you get the AB import dialogue tell it not to import the second column.

  • Importing email addresses from 10.4.11 to 10.6.2

I have a new iMac 27" and I have successfully imported my Address Book v-cards from my G3 laptop. I would also like to import all my email settings. In my old Mail when I begin to type an address it gives me a drop down menu with choices from all previously sent Mail. Can I bring this information into the new Mail?

Because I was guessing about how the disk was formatted, telling us how the disk is formatted would either confirm or deny my guess.

  • Importing email addresses from Excel

I have 2 rather large lists of contact information that I want to import into my address book. Is there a way that I can import them all at one time instead of individually.
    thanks for the help.

Yes. First make sure the contact list is "clean" - that all names and addresses are in the correct columns. You'll ideally want first and last names in separate columns. Remove any extraneous rows or columns. Save it as a CSV file from Excel.
In Address Book, choose File - Import, and choose the file. It will ask you what fields belong to which columns. You can also choose to ignore the first row, if that contains only column header information. And that's basically it. Check the imported cards afterwards to make sure they're correct - you'll almost certainly have a little bit of clean-up to do.

  • Importing a group of names and email addresses from EXCEL to address book

I want to create a new group in my address book, so I can send one email to multiple addresses. I have an EXCEL document that contains the names and email addresses. Is there an easy way to import them into my address book from EXCEL?
    Thanks, Teri

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to import 300 addresses from an Excel file into Address Book. The Excel file has been converted to tab-delimited (txt). I've gone through and deleted any extra line breaks within fields, commas, etc in the addresses.
When I go to Address Book and ask it to import the Text file, I get the dialog window showing me the fields it will import, but when I click on "OK", the program just freezes. Also, it tells me in the dialog window that it won't import specific fields like Street 2, City, State or Zip and there is information in all of those fields for every record to import.
I've been working on this for three weeks now and am at my wits end. I have never had a database program be so difficult to work with.
    Any ideas?

Fire Fox is a web browser, not an an email provider. If you are using web based email, you have to check on the email providers site and see if there is a way for you to export the contacts to your computer's address book and then you can sync them to the iPad using iTunes.

  • Retrieving specific information (email addresses) from Active Directory in text/Excel file

Hello, out there. I'm just beginning to learn PowerShell finally, I'm very interested in learning cooler and better things.
I wanted to know if retrieving information from Active Directory based on a text or spreadsheet file was possible.
An example: I have a list of Windows Usernames from an Excel file, and I need to pull what email addresses they have from AD. They're a part of different OUs either. Rather than manually look up each individual account I'm researching a way to grab this
    info.
I would very much appreciate a push in the right direction.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Sure, that's definitely possible. You can use the Active Directory cmdlets to retrieve this information. Here's an example of reading input from a text file (just usernames in the text file):
    Get-Content .\userList.txt | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_ -Properties EmailAddress
You can also read input from a CSV file quite easily. This example assumes a header of Username:
    Import-Csv .\userList.csv | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_.Username -Properties EmailAddress
Finally, here's a link to the Get-ADUser syntax:

Hi guys, it sounds never been disccussed here,
I have a HTML file which is huge , contains text graphics and email addresses, if I want to copy the email address manually, it will take long time,
so have anybody thought of a JSP script to do this task ? , just to read the html or the URL and to collect all the email addresses there !

  • Remove Email Addresses From a Formatted Excel File

I have an excel file that has some formatting in it that I
would like to preserve (some cells have background color, etc). I'd
like to remove a list of email addresses from this file. My first
thought is to use cffile with action read, use the following in a
    cfloop: replace(emailAddressToDelete,
excelFileVarCreatedFromCffileRead) and then save it back to excel
format with cffile using action write. I tried this and the Excel
file would not open. The error was:
test.xls cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or
you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server
the document is stored on may not be responding.
I'm guessing something went wrong in the process of reading
and writing the files contents and it's not as simple as I want to
make it. Anyone have something to tell me that might help me remove
email addresses from a formatted Excel spreadsheet?

Yup, .xls is a proprietary encrypted file format and
    <cffile.... is not
going to be able to successfully read and modify it's
    content. You can
copy it or move it, but not modify it with <cffile...>
If the file format was a plain text such as .txt or .csv you
    could do
what you are thinking about, but then you would probably not
    have the
proprietary excel formating in the file.
I've heard about the POI library that allows some native
    Excel access
and such, but I am not knowledgeable in its ins and outs.
