Importing pdf form into Excel 2007 gives me a blank form

Howdy.  I am using Excel 2007 and I choose Insert - Object - Adobe Acrobat Document. When the pdf is inserted I see the form but every field is now blank. I am using Adobe Reader X to review the forms I receive. I do not know when version the original form was created in. Even if I save the form in Reader X and then import it, it is still blank.  Does anyone know how to keep the data in the form?
Thanks

Form fields and annotations (such as those available on the Review & Comment toolbar) are not part of the core PDF page content.
Form fields and annotations are objects that are associated with a location on a PDF page.
Core content of a PDF (including the glyphs that depict textual content) are graphic objects "painted" to the PDF page by the PDF creation process.
A simple way to see this is to create two simple 1 page PDFs having different page content.
On the first PDF, add a form field and an annotation. Save. Now, use  Replace Pages to replace PDF#1 with PDF#2.
Or, do the opposite.  Either demonstrates that form fields and annotations are not part of the core PDF page content.
Simplistic, but convenient is to consider form fields/annotations as on a separate "layer".
The "meat and potatoes" are in ISO 32000-1.
Adobe's ISO approved copy of ISO 32000-1 (The PDF ISO Standard):
http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/pdf/pdfs/PDF32000_200 8.pdf
What is inserted into the Excel file is the core PDF page content.
Using Acrobat Pro:
To "flatten" form fields into the PDF page content you could use Acrobat's Optimizer or a Preflight.
To "flatten" annotations into the PDF page content you could use an Acrobat Preflight.

  • How can I import .pdf forms into RoboHelp 11.0.3.268 without garbling fields?

When I try to import .pdf forms into RoboHelp 11, the fields get garbled.
Is there any way around this?

    Hello again
Okay, you first open or give focus to the Project Manager pod. Once there, you will either be in Global View (where you see all files combined - CSS, Images, HTM and others) or you will be in Classic view. Classic View has separate folders, One for HTML files, another for CSS, another for Baggage, etc. See image below for reference.
If you are in Global view, just right-click somewhere inside the Project Files and choose New > Baggage File. If you are in Classic view, right-click the Baggage Files folder and choose New > Baggage File.
Then you navigate to where the Baggage File exists and you add it to the project. When you generate, the Baggage File should be automatically copied to the output folder with the other files.
To link to the Baggage File, you generally select the text or image the user will click to display the file, then click and drag the file from the Project Manager pod to the selected image or text.
Or, if you wish to leave the PDF where it is on the web, just determine the URL that would open it. Create a hyperlink from an image or text that will open the file.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I force a group of checkboxes using imported PDF forms

how can I force a group of checkboxes when using imported PDF forms,
My checkboxes are single fields rather than a group, the form is design using indesign?

The PDF file format doesn't support grouping check-boxes into a multi-choice field. Because of that, FormsCentral just represents them as check boxes.

  • I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel.

I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel. I do not get the columns and rows to align, just a single column of everything. Any suggestions?

Export makes use of what is "in" a PDF.
Good export is the "silk purse" and, ya know, you canna make a silk purse from a sow's ear (which is what any scanned image in PDF is with regards to export).
The quality of export is dictated by the quality of the PDF. We are taking about the "inner essences" of the PDF (e.g., degree of compliance with the PDF Standard - ISO 32000-1).
So, what goes in goes out or "GIGO".
This has nothing to do with Acrobat or Acrobat's export process.
    A well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant to ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) provides a PDF that proactively
    supports content export by Acrobat.
To get the good stuff from export you start with a well-formed Tagged PDF.
    Goodstuff In — Goodstuff Out
    or
    Garbage In — Garbage Out

  • Cannot import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3

Is it possible to import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3? I can't drag and drop them into iphoto folders without the "Unreadable Files" error. I have tried importing them through the iPhoto menu and still get the same results. I have tried importing the PDF files from several places such as my desktop because I wondered if the location of the original made a difference, but that doesn't seem to help. I didn't find anything when I searched for this problem here in the forum so I wondered if anyone else is having the same problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Morgan

No because I had iPhoto 4 open and tried to run the Save PDF to iPhoto on a book in that library. I think it's just the different data structure, etc.. It's just not compatible with Automator or at least that particular workflow. I tried printing to PDF from V4 and then do the Save to iPhoto from Preview with V4 open and I still get the error message. So iPhoto 4 is just not compatible with that workflow.
A workaround is to create a PDF file of the whole book and then manually save each page as a jpg file and import those. That's what I did for my first book. You could do a screen shot of each page in the preview mode and use those but the resolution will be limited to screen resolution, 72dip. You will get resolutions on the order of 150-200 dpi thru the Save As route in Preview or the Save to iPhoto automator method.
I'm sure you could create an Automator workflow that would take the PDF file and save each page as a jpg file and name it sequentially. I'll have to take a closer look at Automator soon.

    Hi johnhnk2,
Please see Getting Started with ExportPDF | Adobe Community.
That document will tell you what you need to know to get started. Please note, however, that it can take 24-48 hours for an order to process fully.

  • How to correct bad PDF display of Excel 2007 graph-Adobe Pro X?

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro X; previously had Adobe Pro 8, which worked fine.  Have Excel 2007 files with an Excel graph and a JPG image on the spreadsheet tab.  Both the graph and the JPG are too big, are displaced, and hide spreadsheet data, when the Excel file is Saved As a PDF using Adobe Pro dialog or Excel dialog, or the Excel Plug-In to Create PDF.  For some strange reason, printing to PDF works, although that is limiting.  All of the settings are the same for the Adobe Printer as Adobe Pro settings.  Changing them or going to default did not help.  Just did the latest update; that did not help.
The graph and JPG are too large for the PDF page.  Paper printing from Excel still works fine. Producing a PDF on another machine with Pro 8 still works fine.  Could not find this problem discussed anywhere.  Using XP, fully patched.  This should not be a complicated process, nor a complex spreadsheet. What is going on?
    Thanks

Regardless of the method and Adobe product used to create the PDF, including the Excel tool button, the single common factor whether the PDF correctly displays a JPG or graph in the Excel file that is being done at anything other than 100% size is whether the Adobe Printer or a Physical Printer is selected as the default printer in the Windows Printers and Faxes-Settings.  This is true even though the printer is not being used. I have created the same PDF using every method/product and the results are always the same, and only properly display when either the setting is 100% size or the system printer is selected as Adobe Printer.  This is true only after installing Adobe X (8 was previously installed, and worked as expected).

You say the settings for the printer work fine, but do not for PDF Maker (I am assuming this is what you meant). PDF Maker no longer uses the printer and the settings are independent. Check the settings for PDF Maker under the create PDF menu.

  • Can I make a web link for Imported PDF forms?

I imported a PDF form onto formscentral.  When I click the distribute tab I do not get the same options as if I created the form on formscentral.  Can I create a web link for my imported PDF form?

    Hi;
No, the Import PDF feature allows you to save a new version of your PDF form that has a "Submit" button that submits the data back to FormsCentral which is available for you to view, analyze and manage on the View Responses tab.  It does not provide a "web" version of the form.
In order to make the PDF form available online you will want to create a link to download the PDF and instruct users to fill it out using the free Adobe Reader (or Acrobat), you do not want to allow the PDF to be opened inside of a web browser as that will not work for most users.  The FormsCentral PDFs must be filled out using Adobe Reader/Acrobat.  Here is an FAQ on PDF in a web browser: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-4142

  • Importing PDF files into iPhoto

I seem to remember being able to import pdf files into iPhoto; now I am unable to.
When I click on the pdf option in Print, "Save PDF to iPhoto" is one of the options given. If I click it, and try to save pdfs to iPhoto, I get a dialog box asking me to choose which album to import to. Whichever one I choose, I get an Applescript error, "file/private/temp/etc.etc.jpg was not found (-43)" .
If I create a pdf and drag it to iPhoto, I get an "Unreadable files" dialog box telling me "The following file could to be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)"
And if I try to import via File––>Import, the pdfs are all greyed out.
    Any suggestions?
Would upgrading the OS to 10.4.5 or the iPhoto to 6.1 help? I'm temporarily abroad, and don't want to screw up the laptop if I can avoid it.

  • How to turn a pdf file into excel document and keep original format

I Have an excel bid form that i use all the time ,then i convert it into a PDF  And once in a while i need to add something to it  I paid for acrobat but when i try to turn the PDF back into an excel document the format is changed , the columns are in the wrong places And it does not look at all like the original excell form is there any thing i can do to  fix this If not this will be useless to me  any help appreciated

A PDF does not contain any spreadsheet, word processing or page layout file format information.
    No "format", columns, rows, etc.
"When you create a PDF, you’re painting a picture. Your paintbrush is the is the result of a combination of the software used to create the source document and the software you’ve chosen to convert your source document into the universal electronic document format we all know as PDF.
Like the painter’s brushstrokes, each character, each line and each image is fundamentally independent, but they can interact with each other to produce particular visual effects. On the PDF page, objects are connected by a coordinate system and not a lot else. There’s no logical, semantic connection between the letters comprising a word; characters simply happen at a series of locations on the rendered page.
As originally designed, PDF is fundamentally a system for painting objects onto a page, plus a whole lot of other features we aren’t talking about right now! There’s no innate concept of words, sentences, paragraphs, columns, headings, images, tables, lists, footnotes – any of the semantic structures that distinguish a “document” from a meaningless heap of letters, shapes and colors. PDF is fundamentally about how the document appears on the page, not how it looks when abstracted from the page."
