Importing PSD Text Problem

Hi All,
I have searched high and low through Google for an answer to the following problem - but to no avail.
Basically i am importing a PSD banner design into Flash CS4 professional.
I've used the import to stage option and have selected place layers at original position and have selected import this text as editable text.
The text layers are imported and are created as static text.
This is hard to describe - but my problem is as follows.
The imported text layers are roughly the same "physical" size as the original. However the text properties in flash show that ALL the imported text is 10.4pt. This figure is wrong as the text size varies in the design.
Another way of putting it is >
18pt text in the original photoshop document is approximately the same "physical" size in Flash but the flash character size setting is 10.4pt
30pt text in the original photoshop document is approximately the same "physical"  size in Flash but the flash character size setting is also 10.4pt !
Ok now i'm guessing your thinking i haven't selected the text object and thats why the character size property is not changing. And that 10.4pt must of been a previous setting i've used. Thats not the case though! I have selected the text object and even gone down to highlighting it just to double check.. The character property still remains at 10.4pt.
If anyone can throw any light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
PS the original photoshop document has a resoultion of 72 pixels/inch. Presumably this would mean that the photoshop point size should be one to one with the flash import. Ie 18pt text in photoshop should be 18pt in flash?

Hi,
OK i found the problem.
If the text created in photoshop has been transformed at any point in the design process photoshop seems to remember it's original point size in the document.
This can be seen in photoshop when copying the transformed text (by highlighting it - rather than layer copy) and pasting it into a new box. The text returns to it's original size before the transformation.
SO when importing the transformed text into Flash CS4 - Flash creates an approximation of the transformed size - BUT will set the character size to the pre-transformed point size. In my case it was 10.4pt....
I'm using Flash CS4 Professional with OSX (leopard and snow leopard) - incase this is OS specific..

  • Selectively ignore Problem Tags Dialog  while importing Tagged Text in CS5.5

    Hi
    My script imports tagged text and places it in selected frames. Due to the tag creation process used, I occasionally get a "Ignoring character level attribute termination tag "<cTracking:>" found without the corresponding character level attribute application tag "<cTracking:value>"
    Since it's not a problem I can ignore this specific error -- but I don't want to turn off ALL problem tag error checking because occasionally there are serious errors that I DO want to see.
    Is there a way to tell ID to ignore this specific error?
    Thanks
    Akiva

    UNfortunately the original ascii files uses a <D> code to return to the default settings -- and since that occasionally includes resetting the tracking to 0 I need to include the "<cTracking:>" tag.
    I could obviously fix it by adding a "<cTracking:0>" to all the codes -- but that seems like it could cause more problems.
    I can preprocess the ascii code to eliminate the excess codes -- but that increases processing time for something which happens only occasionally and is non-problematis in practice.

  • PSD import losing text

    I have a PSD with several text layers that fill the layer vertically and extend beyond the visible edges horizontally. For example, one is the word general. In the PSD it is positioned with the 'ene' in the center of the document, but I can scroll to reveal the remaining letters. When I bring the PSD into PPro it only shows the 'ene' and I can no longer scroll to reveal the remaining letters.
    I've tried importing individual layers and as a sequence selecting layer size and document size. The PSD is the same dimensions as the PPro project. I'm not sure what else to try and haven't been able to find any further instructions.
    Does anyone know what I need to do so that I can import the layer with the full word? Both the PSD and PPro project are in CS6 on a Mac running OSX 10.6.8.
    Thanks

    With an Imported PSD, there is not really a "scroll," per se.
    However, to reveal material, that is effectively "cropped" by the Frame Size, you can adjust the Fixed Effect>Motion>Position.
    I create a lot of Titles in PS, and use multiple Text Layers, as I often want to animate the Layers separately. I always create those on a New Image, that is the exact pixel x pixel dimensions, as my Project's Frame Size (sounds like about what you are doing), OR will create them, so that I can animate Motion>Position, to create a Roll. I also create the New Image with Guides for Title Safe Area. In the case of a Roll, I only use the width, and not the height, since I will animate to reveal the Text that is initially off-screen.
    Check out Motion>Position, to see if you do have all of your Text, but are just not seeing it.
    If you do not wish to do a Roll, redo the Titles, and keep all Text within the Title Safe Area.
    Good luck, and let us know if that Text IS there, but just effectively cropped by the Frame Size.

  • Problem in bulk import of text files in SQL Server

    Hi,
    I am using sql server 2012 x 64 and trying to import some text files (tab/ comma separated) and ms access files in sql server tempdb
    I am trying bulkinsert on text file but it is inserting all data in a single line in sql while in text file I have 1000K lines,
    Then I tried importing other data using openrowset from access file but I am getting following error
    Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "MSDASC" for linked server "(null)".
    can any one please provide some assistance . If I am able to upload the data from flat text file then it will be enough as I am getting data in tsv or csv format
    Nitin

    If this is a one-off, I think you should try the import/export wizard in SQL Server Management Studio instead. This may be easier to get working.
    If you want to this import on a regular basis with BULK INSERT, we need to see the CREATE TABLE statement for your table and a sample file. Best if you can upload the file on Skydrive, Dropbox or similar, as the exact bytes matters.
    To connect to an Access database, you use the ACE provider. Never heard of MSDASC before.

  • Problems importing Hebrew text

    I cut and pasted Hebrew text into MS Word from a Hebrew Word Processing Program (Davka 6). I then imported the text from Word into ID CS4 Standered. In about every third word a vowel sign under a letter dissappeared and was replaced with a box in middle of the word. I tried cutting and pasting from MS Word and got the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Switching fonts doesn't help. (The font I used is DavidD) Thank you!
    Bubby Bella

    The only thing that got displaced was the hyphens in the text which
    turned into superscripts.
    That would be correct. They are called "makaf"s. The correct position
    for hyphens (makafim) in Hebrew is at the x-height.

  • Continual problem with importing PSDs

    Hey guys and gals,
    This is my first post!!!Woo! Anyways...
    Im currently trying to import PSDs with a transparent background and they just dont work! How frustrating! I noticed some other posts when searching and tried the suggestions, with variying success!
    Is there a simple way to import graphics from PS CS2 to Motion without loosing effects, filters and transparencies??
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.....
    PM Dually 1.25 G4 & PB 1.67 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Heya,
    Because the PSD format is propietary, masks, layer effects and adjustment layers do not translate into Motion. You'll need to rasterize/apply any masks to turn them into regular-flavor transparency.

  • Setting a font on a PSD text item in javascript?

    Hi there,
    I'm new to photoshop scripting and am having a bit of trouble editing a text layer in Photoshop using javascript.
    I have a few PSD templates in which I'd like to replace text on specific layers with javascript before generating hundreds of animated GIFs. I have placeholder text on the target layers and have been able to replace it with:
    "textItemRef.contents = "Hello, world";
    however this loses ALL text formatting. Is there a different way to replace existing text keeping sizes/colors/fonts in tact? All examples I can find create new layers needing all the attributes. I've tried assigning a paragraph style to the placeholder text using Photoshop cc 2014 stylesheets but that doesn't retain styles when the text is replaced, either.
    I also can't find mention of TEXT STYLESHEETS in the scripting guides or photoshop DOM references, presumably because they're so new? If anyone has been able to assign TEXT styles, what is the syntax? Or is there one for clearing overrides if that's possible?
    If the only way IS to style everything one attribute at a time, I am having problems with the font attribute. var myFont = app.fonts.getByName("Arial"); does not seem to work.

    A follow-up for anyone experiencing this dropped style on a layer when importing new content... it turns out using paragraph styles AT ALL on a layer will make that layer lose its style when new text is imported with javascript (for some reason photoshop then incorrectly assumes you want to reset the formatting of the new layer to the DEFAULT paragraph style). This is the complete opposite of the results you'd want to use stylesheets to attain in the first place. But, starting with a layer that has only been manually styled with the font menus and character menu items will hold its attributes when importing new text.
    I've recorded and copied below the ActionManager script happening behind the scenes when importing text, and all Photoshop does with the stylesheets because I've used a paragraph style:
    // =======================================================
    var idAdobeScriptAutomationScripts = stringIDToTypeID( "AdobeScriptAutomation Scripts" );
        var desc459 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idjsCt = charIDToTypeID( "jsCt" );
        desc459.putPath( idjsCt, new File( "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014/Presets/Scripts/one-text-line-to-hdln.jsx" ) );
        var idjsMs = charIDToTypeID( "jsMs" );
        desc459.putString( idjsMs, """this is text""" );
    executeAction( idAdobeScriptAutomationScripts, desc459, DialogModes.NO );
    // =======================================================
    var idsetd = charIDToTypeID( "setd" );
        var desc460 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
            var ref36 = new ActionReference();
            var idPrpr = charIDToTypeID( "Prpr" );
            var idparagraphStyle = stringIDToTypeID( "paragraphStyle" );
            ref36.putProperty( idPrpr, idparagraphStyle );
            var idTxLr = charIDToTypeID( "TxLr" );
            var idOrdn = charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" );
            var idTrgt = charIDToTypeID( "Trgt" );
            ref36.putEnumerated( idTxLr, idOrdn, idTrgt );
        desc460.putReference( idnull, ref36 );
        var idT = charIDToTypeID( "T   " );
            var desc461 = new ActionDescriptor();
            var idstyleSheetName = stringIDToTypeID( "styleSheetName" );
            desc461.putString( idstyleSheetName, """Basic Paragraph""" );
            var idtypeStyleOperationType = stringIDToTypeID( "typeStyleOperationType" );
            desc461.putInteger( idtypeStyleOperationType, 1 );
        var idparagraphStyle = stringIDToTypeID( "paragraphStyle" );
        desc460.putObject( idT, idparagraphStyle, desc461 );
    executeAction( idsetd, desc460, DialogModes.NO );
    Now the same actions with no style applied to the layer getting new text.

  • Lines around type and other type/text problems in Dreamweaver CS3

    Dear Dreamweaver forum:
    Good news/bad news,
    First the good news…
    My thanks to a forum member by the name of Mylenium. With Mylenium's advice I have improved my halo problem by including a black background when I save type in Illustrator CS3 as part of importing it into Dreamweaver CS3.
    However, the bad news, is that I’m still having type and text problems.
    Problem area 1
    Now, in Dreamweaver, I’m getting lines appearing around the type.
    I am dragging and dropping the .gif type file into a Dreamweaver Div Tag.
    How do I get rid of the lines around the type so that they do not show up in the Safari browser?
    (Please see below)
    Problem area 2
    I cannot drag and drop text from a Word .doc file into a Dreamweaver div tag.
    I also cannot copy and paste Word .doc text into a div tag.
    How do I include text on my webpage without having to manually type it in?
    (Please see below)
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    From within Dreamweaver CS3, how do I place text? Dragging and droppign the file does not work.
    This is screenshot of what I see so far when I use Safari to test what I have made so far in Dreamweaver CS3.
    I get lines around type.........not usually a good thing.........How do I fix it?
    The way I created the portfolio type in IllustratorCS3 using the File > Save for Web and Devices. I then imported the resulting .gif file so that it was within my root folder within the Files panel within Dreamweaver CS3.
    Am I doing this right?

    Hi
    The problems you are experiencing with the image text, (why are you using image text, these days?) is probably cause by the image having a border when created in illustrator, or the image size being set incorrectly.
    As for the word text if you are using windows, see http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/9.0/help.html?content=WSc78c5058ca073340dcda91 10b1f693f21-7ce6.html.
    On the mac it is a little more complex, save your word doc as html, then apply the 'clean up word html files', (see - http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/9.0/help.html?content=WSc78c5058ca073340dcda91 10b1f693f21-7ef5.html) copy the relevant text and mark-up from the word html file, and paste into your html document in the required position.

  • Importing Arabic text from an XML file

    Importing text from an XML file to appear as text in Flash
    works in English, however if the text I want to import is in
    Arabic, when I test the movie there is no text at all.
    Is there some particular syntax to preface the Arabic text?
    I'll want to import text from XML in other languages too.
    (French)
    I'd cut and pasted some Arabic text into the XML file that
    displays pictures and text in the "slideshow.fla" (
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/applications/jpeg_slideshow_xml/jpeg_slideshow_xml03.ht ml)
    Substituting Arabic text for English text, editing the XML
    file with Dreamweaver.
    Any ideas as to how I might achieve my objective of importing
    Arabic text into Fash?
    I'd started developing my prototpe in Macromedia Director 7,
    and then Director MX, but I have not found a suitable Arabic font
    that I can embed that will allow me to display Arabic fonts in
    Adobe Director. I have the Arabic text in a Word document.
    I've dicovered that my Flash MX Pro and Dreamweaver both
    support Arabic fonts, but I want to import text from an XML file.
    I'd prefer using cast libraries and cast members, but I don't
    know of an equivalent in Flash to what I'm comfortable with in
    Director.

    Oh so many questions. You probably aren't going to like the
    answers. I have Flash MX04 pro (aka Flash 7) and things made a big
    jump between MX (aka 6) and MX04. If you only have MX, there might
    not be a way to do this. All my advice is based upon MX04 or
    higher.
    It is possible to do complex languages in Flash. My
    experience is with Hindi and I've helped a few folks here with
    Arabic.
    You won't be able to use text from Microsoft Word – at
    least I don't think so. The XML file will need to be saved in the
    UTF-8 format. I think Word uses its own scheme and won't work. But
    I'm not a Word expert. Something like Text Edit (Mac) or WordPad
    (PC) should be able to save a UTF-8 file.
    The next problem is you mention "suitable Arabic font that I
    can embed." AFAIK, you can't embed any of the complex scripts in
    Flash. You just have to rely on the end user having appropriate
    fonts installed and enabled. Most operating systems from 2000 on do
    have this – although some folks like to remove them to save
    space.
    Next issue will be line composing. I've found that when using
    anything above the normal Latin range that Flash suddenly forgets
    how to make a line fit into a text area. It will just break things
    in the middle of words and not even notice the spaces between
    words. I've written a little snippet of code that "composes" the
    lines. It works well with Hindi and folks here have used it with
    Arabic and not come back saying that it doesn't work. Search the
    forums (both the Flash and Actionscript) if you can't find it I'll
    dig it out when I get home.
    So here is the checklist:
    Make sure the XML is saved in UTF-8
    Import the XML file
    In Testing environment go Debug–>List variables.
    Does it show up correctly there?
    Does it show at all in a text field?
    Use the "composer" to make the lines break.

  • How to import a text layer on multi-page document?

    Hi All,
    I have a slight problem and was wondering if there is a quicker solution?
    I'm working with acrobatproX
    I have been sent two pdf's form different sources. The first document is a 4c layer and the second is a translated text layer and
    I need to combine the two to check that the text is setup correctly and doesn't over run any images.
    I understand that I could import each text layer to a single page of the 4c but as it is a 256 page book?
    Is there a quicker solution than the one page at a time method?
    Many Thanks

    In PSE, to draw an empty circle use the elliptical marquee tool and hold down shift while you drag to constrain it to a circle. That will give you an empty selection, then go to Edit>Stroke (outline) selection. A window appears where you can choose the width and color of the stroke.
    However, I'm not understanding why you would want to create your business card in PSE rather than in Pages or equivalent. Is there a special reason for this?
    EDIT As for the text file, it would be simpler just to retype it in PSE, since it can't be very much text. Remember that PSE doesn't do all the fancy things with text that Pages can, although it can do some things (like warping) that Pages can't.
    You could activate the text tool and use copy/paste, but you'll lose most of the formatting.

  • Imported Slide Show Problems

    I imported a slide from Photoshop Elements 7.0 into Premiere Elements 7.0. I did get an error that .jpg files could not be imported into Premiere. Some .jpgs showed and some did not. Any suggestion?
    Also, text titles I added in Photoshop are very blurry in Premiere. Can someone help me understand why and how to correct?
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Steve,
    I did a batch processing of over 2000 jpgs in 7 slide shows to 1000x750 and this seemed to work better.
    I am still having text problems. The titles applied to each jpg in the slide shows are clear in Photoshop Elements 7 but are blurry but readable when imported into Premiere Elements 7.
    Further, I have blank slides that are black background with white text in each slide show. These are clear in Photoshop but blurry but readable when imported into Premiere Elements 7.
    I took a suggestion and imported a slide show into PE7 and then exported it to a DV AVI file. When I brought it back up and viewed it, the text titles on the jpgs and the white text on the black slides were still blurry but readable. I viewed the AVI in two separate programs, the pictures look OK but the text is not crisp and clear.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Importing PSD

    Hello,
    I am trying to import a psd into FCP 6 with multiple layers and for some reason when I open it in FCP the image is all messed up. some of the layers don't pop up, the glow effects, cropping and fading is all weird.
    Please help

    First you need to rasterize any layer effects in photoshop before saving the psd file (you might want to duplicate the file before doing this). There are 2 other possible issues. If I remember correctly, some people reported problems importing psd files that had any empty layers. And, psd files created on a pc need to be opened in photoshop on the mac and saved there before importing into fcp.

    Hi Sheps
    I'm working in SD 16:9 PAl. If you're working totally in HD and have used the correct presets, it should all be practically automatic.
    You say “the proportions of the Live type picture are correct but it still does not fill the screen”. What screen? How are you viewing the problem? The canvas in LT? The canvas in FCE? External TV monitor? What version of FCE? What version of LT?
    Which texture? Have you selected a PAL or HD texture? Are you shooting HD or SD? Are you trying to mix formats?
    I would like to suggest a couple of things for your future (and current) posts. Add some info to your profile regarding your Mac (more detail), QT version, drives, software versions, etc. It may help us in figuring out much quicker possible solutions to your problem.
    Keep trying, and post back if no success.

  • Error when importing psd files into Premiere Pro

    I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and Photoshop CS4.  Whenever I attempt to import a psd file I get this error message:  "File format not supported".  I have tested it with different file sizes and properties.  My files are RGB and 8 bits/channel.  Is there any way to resolve this problem?  I am also using Adobe After Effects and importing psd files works great with it.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
    The RGB and 8-bit take care of two possible causes, so thanks for getting those out of the way early on.
    Does the PSD file contain Layers? Are any of them mostly Transparent, with just a few pixels, such as a small logo? Those have created issues.
    What is the exact version of CS4, that you are running? Seems that there WAS an issue with PSD's in an earlier version, and that a later update fixed that.
    There is another element with PSD's, that has caused issues, but my feeble mind is suddenly blank on what that was about. Seems that Colin Brougham commented on it not that long ago. I'll see if I can drege up one of those threads, but you might aslo want to do a Search on "PrPro" and "PSD," though the forum Search might still be broken. Maybe Google, and also look for replies from Colin. I'll do the same too. IIRC, one had to Open the offending PSD in PS, and just do a Save_As with a short file name, and a short Path (not buried deeply inside a sub-folder structure), and all was good, but do not recall any other details at the moment. I would also eliminate any spaces in the new file name, just to eliminate any issue there - use the _ like in the old DOS days, though do not think that one had to adhere to the old 8.3 structure.
    Good luck,

    A workarea is only a view on the repository. Therefore it doesn't make sense, (infact it is not possible) to copy objects between workareas.
    The workarea contents are governed by its rules. You need to make sure the diagram and diagram contents (in a versioned world the rules should define
    the correct versions of the objects required) are covered by the WA rules.
