InDesign CS6 issue on PDF export - only close active

Hi,
I have a situation with my script (or something else). The line of the code where error occurs is this:
myApplication.ActiveDocument.Export("Adobe PDF", myPDFFileName, False, myApplication.PDFExportPresets.Item("[Smallest File Size]"))
Nothing special... everyday for about 300 times (or exports) - everything went ok, but 1-2 times I get an error on exporting. The actual place when InDesign stops is shown in screenshots:
Few things to mention here:
1. sometimes InDesign not responding after this
2. sometimes it is alive but only Close is active, save, save as, save a copy are gray
3. everything can be restored from recovery
4. at that very point when exporting pdf, possible is that an inserted image from this indd file could be opened in photoshop somewhere else on the network
5. everything is on the network, indd, links, images, incopy stories
My guess is that InDesign couldn't read or get the image at this moment from the network but then again, the guys are telling me that no error is logged on router, switch, network etc...
Any medicine? Maybe how to avoid this?
Tnx. Regards,
Marko

Tnx Jarek.
I'll give it a try.
One more thing to mention. Once when this happened, the links palette was empty beside many images on page and incopy stories ?!?!
Can you recall any kind of script that could be run from InDesign at the time when this happen again? Maybe anything that could alert some error or message?
Regards,
Marko

  • InDesign CS6 crashes during PDF export

I have been attempting to export a magazine design to PDF using the dialogue in InDesign CS6 (for Mac). The PDF gets to around 90% in the background tasks panel and crashes every time. I have removed preferences, reinstalled InDesign, upgraded to Suitcase Fusion 4 and am still having problems. I have even tried printing as a .ps file and it crashes during that as well. A few weeks ago I had a similar problem but found that I was opening CS5 .indd files and not resaving them as CS6 .indd files before exporting. Once I resaved/renamed them in CS6 it appeared to fix the problem. Now I can't seem to fix this one. I have exported other files and it works fine. I even packaged the .idml file and a colleague of mine opened it up in CS5.5 and was able to export it. I thought it might have something to do with corrupt fonts but I disabled all fonts and still couldn't get it to export. Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I am on a deadline. • How to fix InDesign CS6 cloud crashes while exporting to pdf?

Hi My InDesign CS6 cloud crashes when exporting to pdf.
It's a Mac Book Pro, OS X 10.7.4. It shows a blank warning, and then there is a long report, here is part of it. Even all my old files can't be exported to pdf. Can any one help?

Indeed. To be more specific, typically program execution begins in a main() function, which calls some other function (say, to handle menu selections), which calls some other function (whatever menu function the user chose), which calls some other function, etc., etc., perhaps 30 or 40 functions deep.
Because of the way C++ calling conventions work, the history of which function called which other function is preserved in a data structure known as the stack. (The stack also does other things). Under normal circumstances, this "stack trace" is reconstructed to form the crash report.
There is one stack trace for each thread (parallel execution components of the program), but the thread that crashed is usually the only one of interest.
In this case, thread 0 crashed. Its stack trace is meaningless. It contains two stack frames (e.g. functions). At the top, the most recent function is called _XHNDL_trapback_instruction, which is a pseudo address that basically tells us nothing, other than there was some sort of fault.
But typically we will see what function called that top function; and the function that called that; etc., etc.
In your case we do not. Allegedly the crashing code was called from the address 4294967295, or in hexadecimal 0xffffffff. And that is the largest number that a 32-bit word can hold. It is, sadly, garbage.
So your stack trace tell us zilch

  • How do I stop InDesign CS6 from suddenly forgetting export tags for accessible Adobe PDFs?

Was working in InDesign CS6  on Windows 7 Enterprise today with a file that had a large number of export tags available, which I use when exporting accessible PDFs,
Suddenly, my selection of tags became severely limited.
When opening another blank file, even tags such as H1, P, and Story were missing.  I had to replace my InDesign application preferences with those from a backup made a few weeks ago, and reimport the tags from a file done last month. Is anyone aware of an issue which would cause InDesign to suddenly lose its ability to tag stories for export?

I've moved your question to the InDesign EPUB forum.
EXACTLY what version of CS6 are you running? There was a bug in an early version of CS6 that prevented either space before or space after from being recognized (I forget which). It was fixed in a later version.
What does it say in the About InDesign dialog?

  • Issue in PDF export from InDesign CS4

    Hi,
We are facing one issue while creating  PDF file from the InDesign document. The document has 2-column texts created in InDesign CS4 application.
The issue is, we export the PDF from InDesign document. When we open the PDF in Acrobat and selecting the text (using selection tool), the second column text is selected first and then it selects the first column text. So while copying the content from the PDF, it comes is reverse order (that is Second column text, then first column text).
Could anyone suggest me how to solve this issues.  Is this bug in ID CS4?
    Thanks,
    Gopal

    Hi Uwe,
Below is the answer to your question.
Question: Did you set the "TouchUp Reading Order" in the preferences of your Acrobat other than "Left to Right, Top to Bottom"?
Answer: No, we did not change the Touchup Reader order. It is in "Left to Right, Top to Bottom"
Question: What version of Acrobat Pro are you using? Or is it just Adobe Reader?
Answer: We are using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro version. We tested in Adobe reader X (VER 10.1.3). But the same problem exists.
Question: What kind of tool are you using? it the "TouchUp Text Tool"? Or is it the "Select Tool"?
Answer: We used both Select Tool and TouchUp Text Tool. Both selects the text in reverse order. (that is right column to Left column)
Please help me on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Gopal

  • Script that worked in CS does not work in CS4 - multiple open page, print , pdf export and close

I had a script that worked great for me in Indesign CS. But now does not work in CS4. Anyone knows what needs to be done to make it work again ?
When I drop folder with indesign files on top of this script:
    1. opens first page
    2. turns specific layer on
    3. prints using preset
    4. exports using preset
    5. close without saving
    6. next page
Anyone who can give me solution or idea how this should work is greatly appreciated.
    on open sourceFolders
    repeat with sourceFolder in sourceFolders
    tell application "Finder"
    try
-- If you would like to include subfolders, you say - every file of entire contents of folder…
set idFiles to (every file of folder sourceFolder whose file type is "IDd5") as alias list
on error -- work around bug if there is only one file
set idFiles to (every file of folder sourceFolder whose file type is "IDd5") as alias as list
    end try
    end tell
if idFiles is not {} then
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
set user interaction level to never interact
repeat with i from 1 to count of idFiles
    open item i of idFiles
    tell document 1
    try
set visible of layer "ImagesTag_Layer" to true
    end try
set myPreset to "letter size" -- name of print style to use
    with timeout of 700 seconds
print using myPreset without print dialog
    end timeout
set myPreset1 to "pdf preset name" -- name of pdf export style to use
set myName to the name -- name includes .indd should remove at some point
    with timeout of 700 seconds
export format PDF type to "users:temp:Desktop:pdf:" & myName & ".pdf" using myPreset1 without showing options -- set path here format ComputerName:Folder1:Folder2:......:FileName.pdf
    end timeout
    close without saving
    end tell
    end repeat
set user interaction level to interact with all
    end tell
    end if
return 10 -- try again in 10 seconds
    end repeat
    end open

(Disclaimer: me not an AS guy!)
First thing I noticed is the interaction level is set off. If you comment out this line
set user interaction level to never interact
you might be able to pinpoint the exact error -- ID will display a standard "failed" dialog, hopefully showing the line that it fails on.
A quick question: the script assumes two presets in your InDesign: one for print ("letter size") and one for PDFs ("pdf preset name"):
set myPreset to "letter size" -- name of print style to use
set myPreset1 to "pdf preset name" -- name of pdf export style to use
Do these actually exist in your CS4, with the same (non)capitalization and spaces?

  • InDesign CS4 crashes during PDF export

Computer is a Dell laptop that operates on Windows XP Professional. I am putting together our image- and text-heavy company newsletter. I have been able to export as Press-Quality PDF withing the past week or two. I made a change today and now get an error when I try to export to PDF (Press Quality, 4 pages, spreads, all marks, full bleeds). I've been able to isolate the problem to pages 3 & 4, since I can export pages 1 & 2 without any issue but cannot export either 3 or 4 seperately, or together in a spread. I've tried the save-as-INX-and-reopen trick to no avail. I've tried saving it onto my local drive, rather than the network drive it was on before. Still crashes at the same point.
The error I get says that "InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error, click here." And I have the option to "Debug" or "Close." When I click the "click here" link at the end of the sentence, I get a window with the following info:
    "Error Signature
    AppName: indesign.exe       AppVer:6.0.0.352      ModName:transparency.rpln
    ModVer: 6.0.0.352   Offset: 0006f14d
To view technical information about the error report, click here."
And if I click on that "click here" link, I get a very long  window of "Error Report Contents" that I cannot copy-paste, and would probably take me a good hour to retype here.
Any thoughts? I do have several transparencies on page 3, and a gradient stroke on an object that spans both 3 & 4. All links have been embedded and prior to embedding showed no signs of warnings or issues. Links include JPEGs, Photoshop files, and Illustrator files.

Finally found the troublemaker!!! You were right. I deleted all links, and it exported the PDF just fine. I went back and tried deleting single links at a time and found the one that, when deleted, everything else exported to PDF just fine. I opened that JPEG in Photoshop and cropped it to the exact size I needed, since I hadn't done this before, resaved under a new name, put it back in my InDesign file and everything just exported beautifully.
HUUUUGE sigh of relief over here. THANK YOU!
And next time I will bypass the wasted morning of pulling out hair and running in circles, and just come straight here.

  • InDesign CS6 to Interactive PDF

I want to design an Newsletter in CS6 and export it as a interactive PDF. The end goal is to be able to email the Newsletter out, but allow the end user to be able to modify the text in each section so they can personalize it as necessary. Additionally, I want them to be able to add thier own logo to the newsletter. I know much of this can be done in Acrobat X but can it all be done in InDesign CS6?
Can anyone point me to some resources if it is possible.
    Thank you.
    Randy

I can tell you what they'll tell you in the Acrobat forum: PDF is considered a FINAL format. It's not intended (or constructed) to be work the way you would like.
allow the end user to be able to modify the text in each section so they can personalize it as necessary. Additionally, I want them to be able to add thier own logo to the newsletter.
The only thing that approaches what you want is creating form fields in InDesign that can be filled out when a user received the PDF document.
If each recipient had a full copy of PAID Acrobat application, they could make minor changes in text and pictures. To have the greatest capabilities, they would need to own the latest version, Acrobat XI, which has stronger editing features than earlier versions of Acrobat.

  • Indesign CS6 saves my PDF in Negative

Ive been having this issue for a few weeks now and Ive hunted online and found nothing.
I use Indesign CS6 to create ads. The Images in these ads are .psd saved as CMYK or Grey Scale.
I save them as PDF's, and in Preview randomly the PDF preview wont contain a certain logo and some of the images will be in reverse (Negatives) not sure why. But when I open these files in Adobe Acrobat Pro they look normal.
This is an issue because when I send the files they will see them in this preview state and not see the whole file.....
    Please Help

The answer is stop using Preview. It is a substandard PDF viewer for
anything other than plain vanilla PDFs.
Check out what you're exporting when you create the PDFs. It's called
Adobe PDF and while there are many good PDF readers out there, using
anything other than Acrobat or Reader is hit or miss.

  • InDesign CS6 - converting to pdf breaks url

I have a situation with InDesign CS6 where a document is created, a URL is attached to a word and saved.  then it is exported to a pdf, and the URL breaks - putting in characters in place of the correct characters and symbols.  Please advise of a solution for this.  Using Creative Cloud InDesign CS6 on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

ok I tried that, but it did not work. This is the URl prior to exporting it to pdf:
    http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e847bitbbff3608b
this is the url after exporting it to pdf:
    http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event%3Foeidk%3Da07e847bitbbff3608b
if you notice - it takes the ? and converts it to %3F and the = it converts to %3D.
I export the file which converts it to pdf, and make sure the url option is selected.

  • Indesign CS5 - Problems with PDF-Export

    Hello community,
we do have a problem with Indesign CS5 and exporting data into PDF. It is about that logo on that white surface, which doesnt come along with the rest after the pdf-export. What we did was: We created that white surface in Indesign itself, put an effect on it with the Indesign effect gallery and then imported the logo in the surface ... the logo itself is .psd data. So, if we export it into pdf like that, it is just dissapeared. Does anyone have had a similar problem and what can be done about it?
By the way ... if you put, for example, a simple backgroundshadow on a picture ... done also with the Indesign effect gallery, then you get just a white surface instead of the shadow, after the export into pdf. It does maybe correlate with the other problem ... not sure. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for your help and kind regards ...

I would create the entire logo, including the white background, in Illustrator, save as PDF and place that in ID.

  • Best way to get SharePoint workflow to trigger InDesign XML refresh and PDF export?

What is the best way to get a SharePoint workflow to trigger the refresh of an XML datasource within an InDesign document, and generate a PDF export? The datasource would be hosted by SharePoint.
    Would InDesign Server be required?

My understanding of the license is that Adobe requires you to use InDesign Server for this sort of thing.
But the implementation is probably the same either way. Periodically poll, or find some way to trigger it.

Thanks for your response. I just gave up and rebuilt the file and now the file is fine. Incidentally, I had created two InDesign book files at the same time and one opened in CS6 without any problem. Both use the same chapter head graphics -- so who knows what strange beasts these computer programs are.

  • InDesign CS5 Crashes on PDF Export if Suitcase Fusion 3 Auto Activation is on

I just started having a problem after upgrading  from SF2 to 3 and using InDesign CS5. My exports to PDF were all  crashing as soon as the PDF creation background process started. I tried  all kinds of tests and troubleshooting to figure out what was causing  the problem as it was sudden and erratic.
Then I noticed that all the documents crashing were using fonts I  had activated with SF 3, so I created a new document with a simple  system font and it exported OK. Then a font installed activated  permanently via SF and still would crash.
I closed SF and reopen InDesign with a document using the SF  permanently activated fonts, still would crash. It wasn't until I turned  off SF3 Auto Activation in Preferences that the crashing ceased. I can  now have SF3 open, activate fonts and see them in InDesign and export  successfully without crash as long as that preference is unchecked.
This should be fixed in the next updated I hope as I like the auto activation feature.
Just posted as well on Extensis Forums:
    http://forums.extensis.com/jforum/posts/list/3533.page

I have also had a crash on export problem recently. I went through the suggestions in this thread and searched others.
Then I stepped through a few things in my INDD.
Deleted the suspect page. Export worked.
Brought the page back. Export crashed.
Looked at all the text on the page. I had 4 boxes with bulleted text.
I converted the bullets to text and the export went ahead with no problem.
I turned the bulleted list back into a real bulleted list and the export crashed again.
    Go figure.

  • InDesign CS6 and CS5.5 Export to Interactive PDF

    Hi Guys,
I am having this huge problem when I tried to export 124 pages including links, buttons (show/hide) and video (mp4) to interactive PDF. However when I tried to use CS5.5 to export, it stops at page 98 and prompts an error that say cannot be exported. In CS6, it managed to pass the page 98 but hangs at page 123 till I got to force quit it.
I am able to export in pieces but not as a whole and I believe that it could be a memory or ram issue which is beyond my control.
This is the first time I have encountered this issue. Anyone have solutions for this?
    Mark Plunkett

I manage to combine them in Acrobat X and the links worked, I was happy but for a while. When I tried to save the combined PDF, same thing happened, it just keeps optimizing running at 100.3% of the resources. What I have noticed using my Activity Monitor in Mac is that InDesign renders it using 1GB or Ram while Acrobat only uses 380MB of Ram when I have 8GB of ram available in my Mac. More the reason why InDesign should have gone into 64-bit in CS6, but was dissapointed it did not.
I found the cause of the rendering issue, it is not so much about the vector or image size (it does play a part though), it is because I was using too much Show / Hide functions in the Buttons Panel. There seem to be a limit to how much you can use and on how many pages you can have them. I was doing a "Drop down menu" in the PDF with this particular function, each page have about 40 Show/Hide buttons, and there is a total of 124 pages. That is what caused it not to export out successfully, when I removed the buttons, it worked after waiting for 40 minutes of exporting the file, not very happy it took so long, however it got exported.
I think that both Acrobat and InDesign developers should start looking into able to use Scratch Disk or let the users optimize more Ram to the usage of the software.
Forgot to mention that this only worked in CS6, not even close in CS5.5
