Indesign Header - Running Title Overlap

I have an Indesgin template for an academic journal that I am working on updating for this upcoming year. I did not create the template.
The problem I have is that there is a paragraph style called Article Title that auto populates the title in the header of each page when I set the title of the article to this style. What I am running into is that when the title is long, the header title is either getting scrunched up together or it is putting all the text on one line and making it overlap and unreadable.
Is there any way to set the header's running title to automatically wrap to a second or third line if it has too many characters for the first line?

Hi,
No.
No.
Yes … Think different!
… I've gently done it using variable feature (… and Grep, if you want to play it in one click!)!

  • Why does InDesign (CS6) run so very, very slowly on my Mac?

Any idea what may be causing InDesign to run like it is stuck in molasses?  Everything takes minutes:  saving, opening a new document, opening an existing file, importing images, entering text - all slow. Any thoughts?

    2 GB RAM
That's not enough RAM for Mountain Lion and ID, so ID is forced to go looking for open disk space. I think you'll need at least 8gb RAM.
2gb is Mountain Lion's minimum req.

  • Is it is possible to identify Heading level, Title, Header, Footer, Paragraph in PDF using SDk or Script

    Hi Friends
Is it is possible to identify Heading level, Title, Header, Footer, Paragraph in PDF using SDK or Script

In an ordinary PDF there is nothing to identify, the information does not exist. Just text at locations, the structure is entirely in the mind of the viewer. For tagged PDFs, yes. This requires a very detailed knowledge of the PDF spec and tagging, and writing a plug-in in C/C++. And of course it requires that the tagging is correct. Since tagging is often added automatically, it is often useless for real structural info. Who thought it was a good idea to tag automatically...!

I have a session variable called P300_CONTACT_NAME with the name, and I want to display that in my region heading or title. I don't want to make this variable an application level variable - it needs to be session based only.
    any help is appreciated....

    William,
    Use: &P300_CONTACT_NAME.
Note that the item name is in upper case and is followed by a . (dot).

In the last few days, it seems that my computer has all of a sudden caught a virus.
As others have pointed out, this isn't malware. That should not be your first (or even fifty-first) thought when your Mac starts misbehaving. For more on this topic, see my Mac Malware Guide.
I know the last ditch effort (after cleaning and maintenance of disc verification and permissions and repairs, is to reboot from the system disc.
You mention "cleaning and maintenance." Have you been running utilities claiming to do those things? If so, you may be the victim of an overly-zealous cleaning job, which has removed important files and damaged your system.
If I'm understanding correctly, you're unable to open any applications at all... is that right? Do you have any backups? If you don't have backups, you're in a sticky situation, as it will be difficult to make backups in your current state, but you shouldn't try any kind of repairs without them. (Actually, you shouldn't do anything with your computer without backups, but this is especially important when something is going badly wrong.)
If you have backups, reboot from your Snow Leopard install disc. From there, first, repair the hard drive with Disk Utility. Once that is done, assuming repairs were successful, reinstall the system. You can simply reinstall it on top of your current system, and it will replace any damaged or lost system files with new copies. (You'll also need to update the system via Software Update after reinstalling.)
If you don't have backups, or if Disk Utility can't repair damage, or if the problem continues even after a reinstall, post back with those details.

  • Itunes is not able to make changes to a running title, problem is new since feb 10th

I'm located in Germany, sorry for some english mistakes. Hope to get the problem clear ;-) My itunes library is located on a NAS-storage. Made the firmware Update for Airport Extreme a few days ago. . SInce that time it's not possible to make changes in the Information of a running title in itunes. To get the problem clear i like to explain: got about 100thousand titles in itunes, use it for many years, always the same workflow: I listen to a new title and make changes to the title-information such as intensity, genre, cover-editing, composers, comments, etc. No problem, it was always stored to the file. Now it is possible to do this changes, but the next time, you play this title, information is automatically setting back to the original infornation. If I do this to a NOT running title, the information is to be fixed properly. I use my library for professional work, so this is not acceptable, because it's taking far too much time in the progress. Maybe it's a network problem, not an itunes problem. But maybe someone else got the same experience.
    How i loved itunes 10....
Hey folks, if maybe anyone at apple should read this (I'm shure they won't),  itunes 11 is the worst software that was ever released by apple. Sorry to say that! I never thought of switching back to PC, but now I'm looking for a better solution.

  • InDesign is running low on disk space error

Has anyone come across an error message that pops up in IDD CS5 that informs you "Adobe InDesign is running low on disk space. Please delete unnecessary files to free up more disk space, and then restart InDesign"?
I'm working on a brand new machine that has 8gb of RAM and a 500gb HD and am nowhere near utilizing either my available RAM or HD so what gives?
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
I wasn't actually the user who was having the trouble. She had to restart
IDD because the program froze up on her. She hasn't gone back into yet to
see if the problem reoccurs but I'll keep track and will certainly reach out
    if it happens again! Thanks!

  • Running Titles in Reverse

Can anyone tell me how to run titles in reverse. I have the credits running normally but would like to run in reverse when it gets to the end. Forwards then Backwards. I have tried the Clip/Speed,Duration but the reserve button in not clippable.

Here is a bit more detail on doing the Roll UP, and then Roll DOWN, using the fixed Effect>Motion>Position, plus acomment on the Rotation aspect.:
For the subtle Rotation, the biggest "trick" is to set the axis/pivot point for the Rotation, if you wish to also incorporate that treatment into your Title. The axis/pivot point can be moved, but you will need to do so, probably well outside of the Frame Size. In PrPro, this is harder, but if done in AfterEffects, becomes much easier.
In PrPro, once your Title has been created, and its total Duration set, the other parts are easy. Just Select the Title, and open the Effects Control Panel, if it's not already open (usually nested with Source Monitor and Audio Mixer by default, in a common Pane). Now, with the CTI at the first Frame of the Title, alter the fixed Effect>Motion>Position, so that the Title is below the Frame, , toggle ON animation (stopwatch icon) to add the first Keyframe. Advance the CTI to the mid-point of the Title's Duration (I use the little Timeline in Effects Control Panel, and you might need to open that with the little right-facing arrows in the upper-right of the Effects Control Panel), and then adjust your Position so that the Title is now off the top of the Frame and add a Keyframe. That takes care of your Roll-UP. You might want to add a bit of a "pause" here, and all you need to do is add another matching Keyframe, for the duration of that pause. Now, go to the last Frame of the Title (PageDN and one click of the left cursor arrow will do that for you), and adjust to the settings of your very first Keyframe for Position. Done.
Well, not quite, as one has the ability to adjust the Velocity of the Keyframes. For what you are doing, you might want to leave the Keyframes as Linear, but also take a look at some of the Velocity controls, like Auto Bezier, or Ease-Out/Ease-In, just to see if you like them better.
Hope that this Helps, and here is what the Keyframes would look like in the Effects Control Panel. Note: this image is from PrPro 2.0, but will be done the exact same way in later versions. Also, the Keyframes were left at Linear, with no Velocity changes:
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - notice that I made a mistake in my PM, as I mentioned PageUP to go to the Tail of the Title - that should have been PageDn, and then 1 left cursor arrow to get to the last Frame. Sorry about that.

  • InDesign stopped running

The problem is thatt as soon as I launch the program, when the loading screen appears, I get a Windows error message : "InDesign stopped running" and the program closes itself.
I already tried to uninstall and re install totally Indesign CC 2014, and nothing has changed.
This morning I worked on it without any problem. Randomly, I had a blue screen (Windows) and had to reboot my computer. From this on, I rebooted my computer, tried to open my program again, and this is when the problem occured.
    Does someone has a solution?

Uninstall again, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

  • Radio buttons (from Indesign) get larger and overlap when fields are highlighted in Acrobat X

I have created my first set of interactive forms using Indesign CS6 Buttons and Forms dialog box. As the formatting of the fields does not seem to carry over, I have left the text boxes as Indesign objects and added text fields over the top of them in Acrobat X. I also intended to add drop down menus in Acrobat instead because I didn't like how the Indesign list box behaved in Acrobat (having to click through each item rather than dropping down the entire list). There does not seem to be a way to add a drop down menu item from within Indesign. (Or if there is, can someone please point it out? :-) )
However I used the sample buttons supplied within Indesign to create radio buttons and check boxes (which automatically included the graphics for the different states). On my first test export to Acrobat it appeared that the buttons retained their formatting, but something rather strange is happening when the fields are highlighted, whereby the buttons enlarge and overlap each other. Very frustrating I must say! I have just about gone nuts trying to find a solution. I've tried several different button options from the sample set; I've created them from scratch within Indesign; I've attempted to resize the fields in Acrobat form editing mode, but this screws up the original buttons. I also have found that once selected in Acrobat, I cannot deselect them again. (Don't know if this is significant info but it may point to some kind of stacking problem??)
Anyway, to make it clearer here are some screen captures:
    1. Form as it looks when opened in Acrobat X. The two different check box styles are from me experimenting in trying to fix this issue. But they all seem to behave the same way once highlighted.
    2. Form when interactive fields are highlighted. The text fields are perfect but note the big ugly overlapping circles... :-(
And some further explanation of how I created the buttons and their issues:
I would very much appreciate some guidance on what I'm doing wrong here, as my poor little head is going to explode very shortly (and my client is getting pretty annoyed at the delay!!)
    Thank you in advance :-)

I am having the exact same problem. I can't find a way around it. It seems that they included some states like normal, rollover, and click—but they didn't include a highlighted state. So when highlight fields is on it just shows the generic standard check box, which looks ridiculous if you have customized it at all in inDesign. I read a lot of people saying they can't find a way to change the highlight state—anyone out there have any answers?

  • Chapter Titles overlapping with other titles

I've got chapter titles that are running into each other because of their length. Apart from shortening my titles, is there any way to get iDVD to know to "wrap" titles so that they don't overlap with each other?

s there any way to get iDVD to know to "wrap" titles so that they don't overlap with each other?
Nope. And if they do overlap, it may cause encoding errors. Best to keep them short.
You could reduce the font size or change the font too.

  • Printing problems with InDesign CS3 running on OS 10.6

I recently upgrade my old G4 Mac (OS 10.4) to a new Mac Mini running OS 10.6.6. I am still running CS3 and have encountered only one problem. When I print multiple copies documents from InDesign that contain several layers, each copy is processed separately, so that it can take several minutes just to send the print job to the printer if I'm printing over 20 copies. Then once the print job is processed the printer pauses between every copy, which is tripling the printing time. If I print a simpler document with only one or two layers it processes all the copies at once, as it should. I am printing on an Okidata 6150 color laser printer.
I never had this problem on my old computer. I'm wondering if this is one of the "unsupported" bugs of running CS3 on Snow Leopard. I want to make sure that this is a problem unique to running CS3 with Snow Leopard before I go ahead and upgrade to CS4 or CS5.
computer: Mac Mini core 2 duo 2.4 ghz processors, 4 gb RAM, printer: Okidata 6150 DN color laser printer.

    Hi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4.  I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0.  I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it.  Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version.  However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader.  I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it.  I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

Subject: Printing problems with InDesign CS3 with Mac OS 10.6.3
I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
    nonetheless.

  • Header in pdf overlaping body of pdf doc:using fop

I'm generating PDF file with FOP, but my header contents are not fixed, they keep on changing with each report and with each locale of browser.
Because of this my static width / height setting like
    margin-top="0.25in"or
margin-top="0.95in"is failing for some reports, i.e my header is overlapping with body contents.
Is there a generic solution which can fix this?
    More details:
Header of pdf is overlapping on the contents of body of pdf, because of which I am not able to see my top contents in my body of pdf document.
I want to way by which ,if header contents are increased then body should start after the layout of header.
But in pdf api it is required to set:
    <fo:region-body margin-top="1.25in" margin-bottom="0.50in" />
    <fo:region-before extent="1.25in"/>
<fo:region-after extent="0.50in"/>which is causing problem bec. when my text in header increases beyond 1.25in which is specified in
<fo:region-body margin-top="1.25in"then in that case header text overlapps body text.

When you distribute a form using the distribute process, Acrobat replaces whatever code you placed in the button with its own. You do not need to use the distribution process to set this up. Instead, Reader-enable the form and your button should work like you want.
