INDEX to cull information from a row

I've got a chart of student data in this kind of format
STUDENT ID, STUDENT NAME, SCHOOL, SUBJECT, GRADE
I've got a table and chart set up to graph the students scores just based on the student ID. That works great. What I'd like is to, in a separate table, pull the student's name and school. That way, I could just use the student ID to generate my graph, and automatically have the student's number and grade appear in a table elsewhere on the sheet.
So, if I have:
1701, James Kirk, Starfleet Academy, Command, 70
1701, James Kirk, Starfleet Academy, Original Thinking, 100
1864, Clark Terrell, Mars Academy, Command 70
and I enter the value 1701, I'd have a second chart that would return
James Kirk, Starfleet Academy
I've checked out the index function, but I can't figure it out well enough to make it work. I figure I need some kind of:
IF ((STUDENT ID, ROW X)=(SELECTED STUDENT ID) THEN INDEX (STUDENT NAME, ROW X)
but my logic skills are apparently not up to the task.
Thanks!

"B" is the entire column B. "D" is the entire column D. So "Table 1 :: B:D" is columns B through D of table 1. That is standard syntax, not some shorthand I used as an example. However, if your table of student ID, name, etc has other things in it than just that data then you may need to select the exact range of the your data.
I don't know why you are getting an error. I assume you modified the formula I provided because argument three in the formula I provided is a "2" in the first formula and a "3" in the other. They refer to the second and third column of the data range given by "Table 1::B:D". In other words, column B would be a 1 (which is where we are looking for the student ID), column C would be a 2 (which is the student name), and column D would be a 3 (which is the school).
A look at the function browser (or the formulas guide) will show you the arguments for the VLOOKUP function.

  • Print information from a row - Report Builder 3.0 - printer button option?

    Does Report Builder have any way of printing information from a row selection onto a page, rather than the whole report?  I don't think it has a print button option when you create the report?

    Hi KittyCat101,
    According to your description, you want to select some particular rows when printing the report. Just as you said, there is no such feature in Reporting Services.
    To work around this issue, we can create a parameter with the key field value in the report. Then we can print the particular rows based on the selection in the parameter. For more details, please see:
    Create a multiple parameter named filter in the report.
    Specify Available Values and Default Values from the dataset key field which is acted as filter when printing the report.
    Add a filter as below in the tablix:
    Expression: [Key field]
    Operator: In
    Value: [@filter]
    When we render the report in report builder, it displays all data. While we can select the particular rows in the drop-down list when we want to print the report.
    If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

  • Get information from a row in a report region to be used in conditions

    Hi,
    I have a page with 2 regions.
    First region is a report from a table (departments) and the other region is another report region (employees).
    One of the columns in the departments report is a link that when I click on it, it will refresh the second region to show the employees by department.
    My issue is when I open the page for the first time or get back from another page, I want to show by default the employees for the first department. I don't know how to get this value and assign it to a a Page Item and use this page item in the second report.
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    andrese

    Andrese
    For page item (which you populate when user clicks on department report link), write default value as plsqlfunction body and try something like
    DECLARE
    v_dummy tbl_dept.dept_id%TYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT dept_id INTO v_dummy FROM tbl_dept WHERE ROWNUM = 1;
    RETURN v_dummy;
    END;I take it you populate dept_id into page item, when users click on department report link. You can change this according to your requirement. Also make sure that the SELECT query matches with your department report query so that first row of your department report always matches with above SQL query output.
    Please note that this may not work if your department report query contains any GROUP BY/ORDER BY/HAVING clauses
    Cheers,

  • How to get information from Oracle's views

    Hi,
    I need to get information from Oracle's views about:
    * in which table's column is set index
    * what type of index is on this column
    * name of a trigger which exist on a table
    * type of trigger (before, after etc)
    * trigger status (enable, disable)
    Thanks for help.

    Hi..
    One of the best way to know which views to use is doing select * from dict where table_name like 'xxx';
    For example in your case you needed to know about the indexes and triggers so
    SQL> select * from dictionary where table_name like 'DBA_IND%';
    TABLE_NAME                     COMMENTS
    DBA_INDEXES                    Description for all indexes in the database
    *DBA_IND_COLUMNS                COLUMNs comprising INDEXes on all TABLEs and CLUSTERs*
    DBA_IND_EXPRESSIONS            FUNCTIONAL INDEX EXPRESSIONs on all TABLES and CLUSTERS
    DBA_INDEXTYPES                 All indextypes
    DBA_INDEXTYPE_COMMENTS         Comments for user-defined indextypes
    DBA_INDEXTYPE_ARRAYTYPES       All array types specified by the indextype
    DBA_INDEXTYPE_OPERATORS        All indextype operators
    DBA_IND_PARTITIONS
    DBA_IND_SUBPARTITIONS
    DBA_IND_STATISTICS             Optimizer statistics for all indexes in the database
    10 rows selected.
    SQL> select * from dictionary where table_name like 'DBA_TRI%';
    TABLE_NAME                     COMMENTS
    DBA_TRIGGERS                   All triggers in the database
    DBA_TRIGGER_COLS               Column usage in all triggers
    Reading the comments you can know which view to use, then  describe the view and use what you need

    Hi,
    I am using the AFTER LOGON ON DATABASE Trigger in order to get the Users information.
    But When I query the Table “client_history” from my LAPTOP. I didn’t get any information from the “client_history” table.
    I like to say that, my client is on the Laptop and
    the Server too.
    However when I connect to Server via my PC (normal client server connection), I got the data via query the table.
    I am using 8.1.7 version.
    Could some one explain why I didn’t get the rows from laptop?

  • ... unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services = Iphone Sync

    " Itunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later. " - this is the message I receive after Iphone is plugged in. Itunes is 7.7 and Iphone is 2.0 at this point, only started happening after the updates of both.
    On a separate note, this same Itunes does not recognize Outlook as an option to sync from and all attempts to press Configure button yield zero result. I have a hunch that tells me the two are related ) . If any of you have had that problem, please post. The search turned up zero related posts.
    Cheers.

    I'm getting the same thing. I came into the office all excited to get the 2.0 update, ran the update and now my phone is stuck on the "slide for emergency" USB/Globe screen.
    When I try and load itunes and connect to the phone I get the same "itunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."
    I've reconnected and waited and still no luck.
    here's the sequence, when opening itunes with the phone connected:
    Open iTunes, it waits for a while trying to connect to the iTunes store, then it comes back and says "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection has timed out."
    I know my network connection is fine. The iTunes diagnostic even says so.
    I click Ok there and get the iPhone listed in the left index thing, but all I get in the body is a big "iPhone"
    Then it gives another "Accessing iTunes Store" status and the same "we could not complete..."
    help, please?

    A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
    The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
    If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
    Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
    Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
    Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
    Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
    See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
    In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
    If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
    If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
    The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
    Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
    Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

    Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
    Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
    If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

    Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
    In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
    /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
    Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
    Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
    Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
    If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • Credit Memo DFF does not contain information from the original invoice line

    Hi
    Customer is facing issue mentioned in Note: 364999.1
    Issue: Created a credit memo against the invoice and noticed that the resulting credit memo lines do not contain the DFF information from the original invoice lines.
    I found through Metalink that this issue was reported to Oracle for release 11.5.7.
    Looks like the fix was to provide a check box in RAXSUMSC.fmb.
    - One off Patch for 11.5.7 - Bug / Patch 2803629 (one-off patch)
    - One off Patch for 11.5.8 - Bug / Patch 3411221 (one-off patch)
    - 11.5.9 - nothing available !!!!
    As per bug 2675652 the issue was fixed in a file RAXSUMSC.fmb, version 115.41 This BUG shows that it has been fixed by in 11.5.10
    Customer is using 11.5.9 which has RAXSUMSC.fmb, version 115.40, we cant apply patches for 11.5.7 or 11.5.8 that are available.
    Any pointers on what can be done ?
    Thanks,

    Hi Pat,
    the project code (PC) on the marketing document may only be applied to the business partner (BP), hence the only row in the associated journal entry (JE) with this project code is that of the BP.
    You can link project codes to specific accounts (CoA -> select account -> account details -> project code) & this project code will then be assigned every time the account is found in a JE.
    If you require the project code to be applied to the freight, you may assign this project code to the account you have defined for this freight. The drawback is naturally that the project code will then  be pulled every time this freight is used, regardless of whether or not the PC is associated with the BP or not.
    It is possible to manually assign project codes to every row in a journal entry, hence this should also be possible with SDK. You might explore the possibility whether it might be possible to automatically assign the BP PC to all rows in the JE using a script.
    All the best,
    Kerstin

  • How can I extract information from an IdM approval stack?

    During the workflow for provisioning employees, managers are required to authorize certain actions. The problem is that they sometimes do not.
    My boss has asked for a formatted report in ascending date order that shows the passive authorizations (some are weeks old!) and the managers to whom the "lazy" managers report.
    I've done this, but it's driven by my manually screen-scraping the information from the approval list onto an external file.
    The problem is that I have to initiate the process by bringing up the approval screen, copying and pasting information into a file and then running a Perl munge script against the created file...
    I want to be able to acccess the approvals list by means of a crontab initiated script and not have to rely on the "screen-scrape."
    Any ideas?

    You can do it in following way....
    First you need to create the object of URL by specifying the URL name.
    URL myurl = new URL("http://www.xyz.com/index.html"); //specify your URL path here
    URLConnection conn = null;
    DataInputStream data = null;
    String line;
    StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
    try {
    conn = myurl.openConnection();
    conn.connect();
    data = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(
    conn.getInputStream()));
    while ((line = data.readLine()) != null) {
    buf.append(line + "\n");
    data.close();
    catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.println("IO Error:" + e.getMessage());
    So, at the end, you have the data in your string buffer...you can use it wherever u want.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I pull information from a master table to another table?

    This may be quite simple, but I'm missing something.  I want to pull information from my master table into a secondary table.  In the Master Table in Column A, I have a list of teams ("Team 1" through "Team 12"), then in Columns B through D I have information for each assignment given to each team.  I want to have a secondary table for each team that lists all of their assignments.  So, this is what I want:   if Column A says 'Team 1', then I want the secondary table to have the info from Columns B through D.
    Again, I'm sure it's simple, but I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    1)  But does this work if in the Master Table (which will be over 300 rows long) each team will show up 10-15 times over the course of the 300 rows randomly (hence the need to have sub-tables for each team...so it's easier for them to see what their tasks are).
    Your fellow Numbers enthusiasts in this forum will need more information to help you with that. You are on the right track though with the idea of many tables. Therein lies the power of Numbers.
    2)  I'm a bit confused by the formula.  With the "$A2" do I select the first column in the Master Table?  And can you break down the second part of the formula?  The "$A$2:$D$4,2,0"  Why would you have A2 and D4 in the same formula?  They are not in the same row.  And what's the 2,0 at the end?
    Breaking this question down:
    With the "$A2" do I select the first column in the Master Table?
    No. The $ keeps the reference to Column A absolute (it won't change to B then C as you Fill Right in the Team Task Table.
    And can you break down the second part of the formula?  The "$A$2:$D$4,2,0"  Why would you have A2 and D4 in the same formula?  They are not in the same row.
    $A$2:$D$4 is the range of cells (a rectangle) where VLOOKUP will search (in my example) but not in your 300 row table!
    And what's the 2,0 at the end?
    The syntax of VLOOKUP is VLOOKUP(search-for, columns-range, return-column, close-match)
    The 2,0 at the end means "return column" is 2 (the second column of the range) and 0 means "Exact Match" - it won't find a close match. After Fill Right you will need to edit the formula in each Column to change "return column" to 3, then 4, then ...
    With a table selected, click on the Function Button in the Toolbar and choose Function Browser. I find that much more useful than the Help Menu. However (there is always a however in life) the Help Menu will show Numbers User Guide, and Formulas and Functions Help. Download them and read at your leisure. The first four chapters of the User Guide are well worth a read. Use other chapters as a reference when you need them.
    Regards,
    Ian.

    I wanna read some information from a webpage, and then put those information together into a table. Since I only know the url, not the file path, when I use BufferedReader(new FileReader(FilePath)), there is a FileNotFoundException. How can I do that? Thanks a lot.

    You can do it in following way....

    while ((line = data.readLine()) != null) {
    buf.append(line + "\n");
    data.close();
    catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.println("IO Error:" + e.getMessage());
    So, at the end, you have the data in your string buffer...you can use it wherever u want.
    Hope this helps

  • Transferring information from G4 tower to Pro

    I have a G4 tower w/ 3 hard drives named Macintosh HD, 60GB Hard Drive and Main HD. The 1st came w/ the computer - the 2nd is on top of the 1st. The third is an ATA drive running off of a Sonnet Temp ATA133 adapter card. In starting up the Pro wanted to transfer information from Main HD as that is my current startup disk on G4. In doing the firewire connection to transfer info - only the Macintosh HD showed up. Called Apple support - was told to unplug the Macintosh HD and the 60GB and then try again - they left me hanging. Didn't work it said no OS X.5 on the disk. Called back again - this time the person told me to just pull out the ATA drive and install in one of the other bays on the Pro - and it should work fine - again "no OS X.5". Put back into old G4 - started up like a charm - using 10.5.8. Hope this makes sense and someone has suggestions - as I really don't want to go through all the personal info, and internet connections etc. again. ~bruce.

    In order to access an ATA drive via TDM the ATA drive must be set as the MASTER. TDM will not see a SLAVE drive. If you reset the jumpers on the drive to make it a MASTER while removing the other two drives you should then be able to access it via TDM.
    You can install an ATA drive in a Mac Pro using the optical drive bus, although I am not sure if the newest Mac Pros have an ATA bus now. It may now be replaced with a SATA bus. However, an ATA drive cannot be installed in any of the Mac Pro's SATA slots.
    You could also try networking the two computers and transferring your data via Ethernet. You need only move your personal data since you cannot use any PPC-only code on the Mac Pro. It would also be simpler to just reinstall your third-party software to be sure everything gets to the right place. Also see:
    A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
    If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
    Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
    Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
    Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.

    Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
    will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.

    /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
    Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
    /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
    /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
    /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
    Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
    If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
