Indexes For Views

Hi gurus,
Is it possible to assign indexes to views ? If yes, how ? I can create indexes for views through database management software, but in SAP, in SE11 i found nothing for this.
Thx,

An index cannot be defined on a view. Because view is
virtual table, which consists of a subset of columns from
one more tables.
The Restrictions imposed on views are as follows:

  • How to create  index for a column of a view

    Hi,
I have created view for a table and then i am trying to create index for a column of that view. i am using the query "CREATE INDEX index_name ON view_name (col)". but Mysql is showing error like "view_name is not a base table".
    How can i do that......

As mentioned this is a java forum not a mysql forum, but as I know the answer - you can't create an index directly on a view in mysql.

  • Can we put INDEXES on Views if not Is there any way to make it Index bas

    Hi
I am running a query in which there are several views involved in the join condition Can we put INDEXES on Views in ORACLE 9i if not Is there any way to make it Index based views beacuse the result that i am getting is very slow and is eating like 10gb of the temp tablespace.
    Thanks

No, you cannot put indexes on a view. Think about what a view is, a stored sql statement. Oracle has no way of knowing what rows are in a view until it actually runs the view. So, even if you could, Oracle would need to run the view to get the rows, build the index, then run your query a second time using the index. Seems counter productive to me. A view can use indexes on the underlying tables if appropriate.
Generally speaking, I would say that a query that makes use of multiple views is probably really inefficient. Often, you are only looking for one or two columns from a view which may require joining several tables whose columns are of no use in the main query. I would start by re-writing the query using the base tables, and only using those tables that are actually required to answer the question.

  • How do I stop the indexing on my MacBook Pro? It's been indexing for 2 days.

How do I stop the indexing on my MacBook Pro? It's been indexing for 2 days.

    Step 1
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -F '$Time $Message' -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds | tail | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.
    Step 2
Enter the following command as in Step 1 and post the output:
    mdutil -as 2>&- | pbcopy
    You can then quit Terminal.
    Step 3
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Terminal. In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash reports related to Spotlight. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. A Spotlight crash report has a name beginning in "mds" or "mdworker" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent such report, if any, from the System and User subcategories and post the entire contents—the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

  • Workflow with raw for editing (offline) and JPEG for viewing

    Hello,
Up to this point I have been using both Lightroom and Aperture. I do my editing in Lightroom, my raw files are in indexed in Lightroom's catalog. I then export to JPEGs and store them in Aperture for viewing, (internet) export, archiving etc.
I want to switch to a Lightroom-only workflow, so I have both my raw files and the JPEGs in one application, to minimize maintenance (keywords, collections, etc).
The only issue I cannot seem to work around (and also exists in the current workflow) is that if at some point after the initial JPEG export I reedit a photo, I have to reexport, reimport, add to my stack (different versions of the image), update keywords etc etc.
One obvious solution is not to export to JPEGs and keep the raws always available. But this is not local-space efficient.
Any ideas how to handle this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ahalatsis,
I understand the desire for having copies readily viewable outside Lightroom without having to export every time you wanna look at something. I recommend using a publishing service for accomplishing this goal, if not Lr's native hard drive publishing, then my (Rob Cole) TreeSyncPublisher or Jeffrey Friedl's Collection Publisher.
Note: you can take raws offline after publishing, but they must remain in the catalog for editing...
Whether to re-import jpegs upon publishing is an interesting question - I don't do it, in order to keep Lightroom "originals only", so if I see a photo in Lightroom, I can edit it and publish it without thinking. The downside: I have to use other programs for dealing with those exported jpegs (I use ACDSee for that, among others). So, some people like to re-import exported jpegs, and just be careful not to edit the jpegs - personal preference.
There are some (relatively few) souls who prefer to edit raws, export jpegs back to catalog, then remove raws from catalog and archive them "just in case" (editing jpegs from there on out, if need be). While it's doable, and there are some plusses (e.g. making minor tweaks to such jpegs is very fast compared to raws), I can't recommend it, since it's too limiting, and most people shoot raw to be less limited (for example, re-editing 2003 raws using current (2012) process version).
To be clear: photos do not have to be online for viewing (or editing of metadata) in Lightroom - that's what the "lib" previews are for. And you can even create "smart" previews and then photos don't even have to be online for editing in develop module (or exporting/printing at reduced quality) either. They do have to remain in the catalog though, even if offline.
And to be doubly clear: if you don't have enough space on internal drive(s) for photo files, you can just put them on a big external drive in the first place, and never move them.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Excel Database ready for viewing

Hi all hope you can advise me.
I have an Excel Database that I want viewers of my website to
be able to search.I found the
    http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/index.html
    to use for the searching.
I want to know how best to structure the database for viewing
purposes on the web. What format etc.
What I am after is to have a "search the database page" that
when a search is done elements of the database is brought out in
the results.I would like each search result to have it's own page
so that only the specified search results comes up and not any
    other.
I'm not quite sure that what I want can be done from this
excel doc.My thoughts are and I may be wrong is that this being a
simple .xls doc. (Excel doc) doc the results will bring out
highlighted parts that were relevant to the viewer's search.
    Any help/advice would be great.
    Thanks Mark

XP Home does not include a webserver. If you wanted to
    locally test
server-scripted pages, you would have to install Apache.

If you want to locally test pages that interact with a
    database (whether
Excel, Access, or MySQL), you would need a local webserver.
    Without one,
the best you could do would be to upload pages and browse to
    them. If your
pages are static HTML only, then your local preview will work
    fine, and you
would have no need for a local webserver.

Unless you want to work in PHP and install Apache and MySQL
    locally, then
you are hosed. This is not a hard thing to do. It's how I am
    configured.

You couldn't practically use HTML for this anyhow.

Yes. Get David Powers' excellent book on DWCS3 and PHP/MySQL,

He gives complete instructions for setting up your system.

  • Performance of query poor, cardinality wrong for view

I'm having a real problem with a view that consists of two large-ish tables - on with 80,000,000 rows and the other 2,000,000
I have had this problem before and it was caused by use of the FIRST_ROWS_100 hint. Now I'm using ALL_ROWS and I'm still getting it.
Basically the view V_SALES_ALL is always being scanned fully (usually using an index it has to be said) even when , as in this case, there are probably fewer than a couple of thousand rows. Doe anybody know how to avoid full scans for views, or what config issue I might not have paid attention to ?
    I am using 11.2.0.2

OK - here is the code.
    The E-rows and A-rows estimate/actual at step 10 are way out - 80M.
If I'm interpreting this correctly, the actual cardinality should be about 15,000 .

  • Indexing for Load efficiency or Query Efficiency

    Hello,
I've just come to start querying our warehouse which is currently being developed. Unfortunately, although the tables and indexes were spec'd at the design for query performance, the ETL team loading the table have set up indexes to improve load efficiency.
Is there anyway of placing 2 sets of indexes on a table, one for the load process and one for querying? Or should the queries be done on materialised views?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just to clarify, there may be a harm in having multiple sets of indexes since index maintenance may consume a significant fraction of the ETL time. If the goal is to optimize the load, you may want to drop and rebuild the indexes that exist for query performance (assuming that queries and loads run during separate windows). Depending on volumes and load characteristics, I could envision scenarios where you could drop the indexes used by consumers, build the indexes for ETL, run the ETL, drop the ETL indexes, and rebuild the consumer indexes, but that would be rather rare.
Materialized views can certainly come into play to satisfy warehouse queries, particular for aggregate data. It wouldn't make much sense to drop indexes on base tables and create them on materialized views that were exact copies of those base tables since that wouldn't save you any processing time. If your MV's have sigificantly fewer rows than the base tables, though, indexes on the aggregates may be significantly cheaper to maintain.

  • Multi-column Index vs One index for each column

    Hello everyone,
i have one table about 20 000 000 rows, some developers have to generate reports on it and i want to create indexes on this table.
The table has 34 columns, no primary key, no unique keys.
The "where..." clause of the reports usually use 8 columns but some reports uses 8 + some other columns.
can any one help me on what kind of indexes do i have to create?
    1. one index for each column used in "where clause"
    2. one index for 8 columns and some other indexes for other used columns
    3. one index for all columns
    or something else etc...

    3. one index for all columns
or something else etc...What's the version of your data base? what kind of database you have, DWH or OTLP? The answer might depend on the type of database as far as bitmap indexes might suit or might not depending if you are runing DWH or OLTP kind of database
Let me suppose that you are runing OLTP database and you have a where clause with 8 columns.
    1) are all those where clause equalities (where col1 = and col2 =) or there are inequalities?
    2) could you evaluate the most repetitive columns?
    3) could you know the column that could have the best clustering factor (the column which most follow a certain order in the table)
Based on that I would suggest to create one b-tree index having 8 columns (even though that it seems for me to high) this index should follow the following points:
    1) put the most repetitive column at the leading edge (and compress the index if necessary)
    2) put the columns that are used in equalitity predicate first
    3) put the column having the best clustering factor first
The most precise index you have the best access you could gain.
Of course that you have to know that an index access is not always good and a FULL table scan is not always bad.

  • Can Oracle be forced to use the spatial index for sdo_filter in combination with an or clause? Difference between Enterprise and SE?

We’re seeing the following issue: sql - Can Oracle be forced to use the spatial index for sdo_filter in combination with an or clause? - Stack Overflow (posted by a colleague of mine) and are curious to know if this behaviour is due to a difference between standard and enterprise, or could we doing something else wrong in our DB config.?
We have also reproduced the issue on the following stacks:
Oracle SE One 11.2.0.3 (with Spatial enabled)
    Redhat Linux 2.6.32-358.6.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu May 16 20:59:36 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
11.2.0.3.0 Standard Edition and 11.2.0.4.0 Standard Edition (both with Spatial enabled)
Microsoft Windows Server 2003R2 Standard x64 Edition
However, the SQL works fine if we try it on Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 *Enterprise* Edition.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Kindest Regards,
    Kevin

In my experience sdo_filter ALWAYS uses the spatial index, so that's not the problem. Since you did not provide the explain plans, we can't say for sure but I think yhu is right: Standard Edition can't use the bitmap operations, and thus it'll take longer to combine the results of the two queries (because the optimizer will surely split this OR up in two parts, then combine them).
BTW: when asking questions about queries here, it would be nice if you posted the queries here as well, so that we do not have to check another website in order to see what you are doing. Plus it will probably get you more answers, because not everyone can be bothered to click on that link. It would also have been nice if you had posted your own answer on the other post here as well, because my recommendation would have been to use union all - but since you already found that out for yourself my recommendation would have been a little late.

I have created a PDF and password protected it for view. However, when reading the PDF in Adobe Reader app on the iPad the commenting and annotation options are not available. Is there a way to allow commenting and annotation in the app while password protecting the document?

Is there a setting that needs to be set to allow the annotation features?  I set password protection to open and then password for editing and set it to Any except page extraction, but it still did not give the annotation option

  • Report for viewing credit limit block released documents

    Hello All,
Our client's requirement- credit limit check to be carried out and authorised persons can release the blocked orders.
But is there any report at month end to see how many documents were released and who released them  Is there any standard report for viewing these or ABAP has to develop them?  VKM2 transaction- released SD Documents would not show any released documents once billing is done i.e, once the sales documents is released it cannot be known who released it and when, how to track this?. so what can be the solution for this? Please suggest
    Regards,
    RAJ

    Dear Raja,
    Use VKM4 t code.
You can see both credit released sales orders and deliveries.
Put Overall credit status as D.
You can see how much value was released, when it was released. But with which user id it was released you cant see it.
