Infocube- Roll up ,compression and Aggregation

Hi,
Any one can explain me the follolwing info cube concepts:
F-table -->  F-Aggregate table
F-table --> E-Table
F-Aggregate table --> E-Aggregate table
With some examples.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Swarnalatha.M

Hi Swarna,
Info Cube Cantain Two Fact Tables.
1. F- Fact Table 2. E- Fact Table
When ever you do the Compresstion Request ID is deleted and Data is Aggreated based on characterstic values go and sit the E Fact Table.
Ex:
F-Fact Table Contians
Request ID Customer no Material No Price Qty Rev
1516 10000 101 1000 2 20000
1517 10001 101 1000 2 20000.
1518 10000 101 1000 2 20000.
Once you done the compression E-Table like this
Customer no Material No Price Qty Rev
10000 101 1000 4 4000
10001 101 1000 2 2000
Aggreate Table : Aggreate table also smaller cube it's not contain any fact tables but it's aggreates your data based on charastricts values
In Aggreation Tables like this
Customer no Price Qty Rev
10000 1000 4 4000
10001 1000 2 2000.
I think you can understand above ex.
Thanks & Regards,
Venkat.

• Difference between Compression and Aggregation

Hi,
Can anybody explain the Difference between Compression and Aggregation.Performance wise which is better and explain me in detail.
Thnaks,
Chinna

Hi,
suppose you are having three charecteristics in a cube say X,Y,Z..
Even for the records which are having the same combination of these charecteristics but are loaded with different request they won't get aggregated.
So when you go for compression the records , it deletes the request number, and aggregates the records which are having the same combination of these records.
Coming to the aggregates , if you build a aggregate on the charectaristic say 'X' then it aggregates the records which are having the same value for a particular charecteristic.
ex: say you are having the recrds as
x1, y1 ,z1......(some key figures)
xi, y2,z1,.....
x1,y1,z1,....
x3,y3,z3...
If you compress them, you will get three records.
If you go for aggregates based on the charecteristic 'X' you will get two records.
So aggregates will give more aggregate level of data than compression

haritha.

• Cube Compression and Aggregation

Hello BW Gurus,
Can I first compress my infocube data and load data into the aggregates.
The reason being, that when the infocube is compressed the Request Id's are removed.
Are the Request Id's necessary for data to be transfered to the Aggregates and then later on for aggregate compression.
Kindly suggest.
regards,
TR PRADEEP

Hi,
just to clarify this:
1) you can compress your infocube and then INITIALLY fill the aggregates. The Request information is then no longer needed.
2) But you can NOT compress requests in your infocube, when your aggregates are already filled and these requests are not yet "rolled up" into the aggregates (this action is prohibited anyway by the system).
Hope this helps,
Klaus

• Compress and rollup

Hello,
It seems that for non cumulative infoproviders, the order of process between compress and rollup is important (example 0IC_C03).
We need to compress before rolling up in the aggregates.
However, in the process chain, if I try to compress before rolling up, the 2 processes are in error (RSMPC011 and RSMPC015).
In the management of the infoprovider the "compress after rollup" is unchecked.
Please can you tell me how can I do ?
Thank you everybody.
Best regards.
Vanessa Roulier

Hi
We can use any of the option
Aggregates are compressed automatically following a successful roll up.If, subsequently, you want to delete a request, you first need to deactivate all the aggregates.
This process is very time consuming.
If you compress the aggregates first, even if the InfoCube is compressed, you are able to delete requests that have been rolled up, but not yet compressed, without any great difficulty.
Just try to check that option and load if it works
Thanks

• Compress and Aggrigates

hai experts,
Plz..What is difference between Aggrigates and Compress.
How to do can any body give the step by step........
Thanks in advance......
with regards..
raghu

Dear Raghu,
Both, compression and aggregates, are used to increase reporting speed.
To understand how compression works, you have to know BW's extended star schema. From a technical point of view InfoCubes consist of fact tables and dimension tables. Fact tables store all your key figures, dimension tables tell the system which InfoObject identification are being used with the key figures. Now, every InfoCube has two fact tables, a so-called F-table and an E-table. The E-table is an aggregation of the F-tables's records as the request ID is being removed. Therefore an E-table normally has less records than an F-table. When you load data to an InfoCube, it is just stored in the F-table. By compressing the InfoCube you update the E-table and delete the corresponding records from the F-table.
Aggregates are, from a technical point of view, InfoCubes themselves. They are related to your "basis" InfoCube, but you have to define them manually. They consist of a subset of all the records in your InfoCube. In principal there are two ways to select the relevant records for an aggregate. Either you select not all Infobjects which are included in your InfoCube, or you choose fixed values for certain InfoObjects. Like the compression, updating aggregates is a task which takes place after the loading of your InfoCube.
When a report runs BW automatically takes care of F- and E-tables and existing aggregates.

• Roll Up & Compression

Hi Gurus,
Would like to know more about Roll Up and (ii) Compression. Please help.
Thanks
Sheeja.

Hi
For an info cube there will be two tables.
1.F-Fact table----
Uncompressed table
2.E-Fact table----
Compressed table
F fact table contains all the information with respect to Request id.
Compressing means removing the request id information by aggregating the Key figure information.
Roll up :- Filling up the aggregates with data.
After loading the info cube, for updating the data in the aggregates we will do Roll up.
Compression and Roll up we will do for Improving the Query performance.
Assign points if it helps.........

• Compress and rollup the cube

Hi Experts,
do we have to compress and then rollup the aggregates? what whappends if we rollup before compression of the cube
Raj

Hi,
The data can be rolled up to the aggregate based upon the request. So once the data is loaded, the request is rolled up to aggregate to fill up with new data. upon compression the request will not be available.
whenever you load the data, you do Rollup to fill in all the relevent Aggregates
When you compress the data all request ID s will be dropped
so when you Compress the cube,"COMPRESS AFTER ROLLUP" option ensures that all the data is rolledup into aggrgates before doing the compression.
hope this helps

• WebI issue with hierarchy display and aggregation

Trying to wrangle what looks like a defect in WebI's handling of hierarchy display and aggregation. We just completed an update cycle and are running BOBJ 4.1 SP4.
The hierarchy is a standard FM Commitment Item hierarchy in which both the nodes and leaves are Commitment Items (i.e. it uses InfoObject nodes, not text nodes). An example of one of these nodes looks like this in BW:
Cmmt_Item A - Node
Cmmt_Item B - Leaf
Cmmt_Item C - Leaf
Let's pretend Commitment Item A has $50 posted to it, B has $20 and C has $30. Analysis for OLAP handles this by adding a virtual leaf line to distinguish postings that are on the parent node like so:
Cmmt_Item A - Node $100
Cmmt_Item A - Leaf $50
Cmmt_Item B - Leaf $20
Cmmt_Item C - Leaf $30
So you see both the total for the node ($100) and a line for each Commitment Items with KFs posted to them. Our users like this. They can easily see the aggregation and the breakdown.
WebI, on the other hand, will display it like this:
Cmmt_Item A - Node $150
Cmmt_Item B - Leaf $20
Cmmt_Item C - Leaf $30
It doesn't create a separate line for the value of the parent node, but it does add it's value into the aggregate. Twice. Modifying the table with the 'avoid duplicate row aggregation' checkbox yields output like this:
Cmmt_Item A - Node $100
Cmmt_Item A - Node $50
Cmmt_Item B - Leaf $20
Cmmt_Item C - Leaf $30
We're about halfway there. While the top row now shows the correct aggregation and it creates a new line to show the distinct amount on the parent node, that new line appears on the same level as the parent. It's no longer clear that there's an aggregate and a breakdown. And attempting to expand or contract a node will now crash the report with one of those 'Error 16' messages.
Has anyone encountered this issue with hierarchies in WebI? This report was built from scratch in 4.1, so I'm not sure if this affects older versions or not. Or if it would affect any hierarchy that uses InfoObject nodes instead of text nodes.

Without a fix, the simplest workaround I can think of would be to restructure the hierarchy. It can't use postable nodes, so Cmmt_Item A - Node from my example would need to be converted into a text node and the postable characteristic added as a child on the same level as the B and C leaves.
This looks like it would affect anyone using hierarchies with postable nodes in a WebI report.
Another oddity in WebI's behavior here - even though the postable nodes show incorrect sums the sum at the root node is correct. So extending my examples from the original post:
Root Node $100
Cmmt_Item A - Node $150
Cmmt_Item B - Leaf $20
Cmmt_Item C - Leaf $30

• Report with non aggregated and aggregated columns from different facts.

Hi,
We have got requirement as follows,
1) We have two dimension tables, and two fact(Fact1 and Fact2) table in physical.
2) In BMM we have made hierarchies for both dimensions, and are joins both logical fact table.
3)In fact1, we are having three measures of which we have made two as aggregation sum, and one is non aggregated(It contains character).
4)Fact2 have two measures, both are aggregation as sum.
5)Now here the problem arises, we want to make a report with some columns from dim and non aggrgated column from fact1 and and aggregated column fact2
How to resolve the above issue.
Regards,
Ankit

As suggested you really want to move your none-aggregated fact attributes to a logical dimension (using the same physical table as the logical fact). Map this in the BMM layer as a snowflake, Place a hierarchy on this dimension with (at minimum) Total -> Detail levels, then on the other fact table you want to include in the report, set the content level on your other fact measures to the 'Total' level for your new logical Dim and it will allow them to be present in the same report.

• Using an expression in SSRS to display rolling 12 month and year to date volumes

I need some help in writing an expression in SSRS. I have a table that contains date columns and rows that contain different types of data groups. (e.g. total number of items received during the month, total dollars for the month, etc.) I want to add two
new columns to the end of the report that will display a rolling twelve month total for each of the different rows of data. Plus a column that would show year to date totals for the same rows.
I was thinking I could accomplish this by adding expressions for each row in the new 'rolling twelve month' and 'YTD' columns in my report however, I'm not sure how to structure the expressions to achieve this.
Here is an example of how my report currently looks. (I added a pipe delimeter in case the formatting changes once this is submitted.)
Jan-2014 | Feb-2014 | Mar-2014 | Apr-2014 | Rolling 12 mth | YTD
Items received 100 | 35 | 45 | 12 | 192 | 192
Dollars $50.00 | $25.00 | $120.00 | $15.00 | $210.00 | $210.00
Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.
Thank you

This example shows how to get what you need. It'll take modifying your query to add two cased columns onto the end.

• Upload text file to oracle table with checking and aggregation

Hi Friends,
I am new to ODI. I have encountered a problem which is specific to ODI 11G (11.1.1.6.3) to upload text file to oracle table with checking and aggregation. Would you please teach me how to implement the following requirement in ODI 11G?
Input text file a:
staffCode, staffCat, status, data
input text file b:
staffCodeStart, staffCodeEnd, staffCat
temp output oracle table c:
staffCat, data
output oracle table d:
staffCat, data
order:
a.staffCode, a.staffCat, a.status
filter:
a.status = ‘active’
join:
a left outerjoin b on a.staffCode between b.staffCodeStart and b.staffCodeEnd
insert temp table c:
c.staffCat = if b.staffCat is not null then b.staffCat else a.staffCat
c.data = a.data
insert table d:
if c.staffCat between 99 and 1000 then d.staffCat = c.staffCat, d.data = sum(c.data)
else d.staffCat = c.staffCat, d.data = LAST(c.data)
Any help on fixing this is highly appreciated. Thanks!!
Thanks,
Chris

Dear Santy,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. May I have more information about the LAST or SUM step?
I was successful to create and run the following interfaces p and q
1. Drag text file a to a newly created interface panel p
2. Filter text file a : a.status = ‘active’
3. Lookup text file a to text file b : a.staffCode between b.staffCodeStart and b.staffCodeEnd
4. Drag oracle temp table c to interface panel p
5. Set c.staffCat : CASE WHEN b.staffCat IS NULL THEN a.staffCat ELSE b.staffCat END
6. Set c.data : a.data
7. Drag oracle temp table c to a newly created interface panel q
8. Drag oracle table d to interface panel q
9. Set UK to d.staffCat
10. Set Distinct Rows to table d
11. Set d.staffCat = c.staffCat
12. Set d.data = SUM(c.data)
However, the interface q should be more than that:
If c.staffCat is between 99 and 1000, then d.data = the last record c.data; else d.data = sum(c.data)
Would you please teach me how to do the LAST or SUM steps? Moreover, can interface p and interface q be combined to one interface and do not use the temp table c? Millions thanks!

Chris

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Here is a general outline of where the troubleshooting will take you:
General installation troubleshooting
1. Empty your Temp directory and restart
2. Completely remove iTunes and related components
3. Install the latest version of iTunes
Additional troubleshooting
After performing each of the steps below, you will need to completely remove iTunes and related components and then install iTunes again to determine whether the issue is resolved.
1. Make sure you have administrator account access
2. Make sure your folder names don't contain strange characters
3. Get the latest Windows updates
4. Disable other conflicting software
Additional Information
If you only need to install QuickTime, or if iTunes installs but QuickTime installation did not complete
Try downloading and installing the standalone version of QuickTime from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/. Be sure you download the version that does not include iTunes.
If the steps outlined in this article don't help, you may be able to find a solution to your issue by searching the Microsoft support website.
