Initializing SMTP server

Hi all...
How to initializing SMTP server in CMC?
Thanks and Regards,
Handri

SMPT is configured per job server in the CMC
CMC/servers/jobserver/destinations/SMTP
1st you must enable it, then set the server defaults, insure the account(s) used have the rights to send via SMTP (this is external to business objects) - see your email administrator.

Tim

  • Server dropped connection without sending the initial SMTP greeting

    Whenever anyone tries to send email to addresses from the domain 'cwbank.com' they receive the error emessage:
    connect to smtp.ab.tac.net[216.123.224.167]: server dropped connection without sending the initial SMTP greeting
    If I use other mail servers, the message goes through without a hitch.
    Prior to this week we could send email to this domain.
    Port 25 is open on the receiving server (216.123.224.167).
    A few weeks ago, we were 'blacklisted' because another server on the same subnet was spamming. And a few ISPs (Godaddy, 1and1, etc.) blacklisted the whole subnet instead of the offending IP. We don't seem to be having any more problems with getting RBL rejections anymore. Typically those error messages were returned as '550 RBL rejection' errors. I'm wondering if this might be related.
    Any other thoughts on the subject?

    Well, the other thing that could be happening is that the mail servers at these 4 IPs might have their own hardwired IP block on some range of IPs that you are in. We know that is not being done at their firewall (you can connect and get the greeting), but might be done with, for example, a postfix config that prohibits connections from certain IP ranges.
    There's another possibility, namely, that they are picky about DNS config. Your IP of 68.150.192.151 seems to have a good reverse DNS PTR record that matches the SMTP HELO greeting when I telnet to your server:
    mail:~ admin$ telnet 68.150.192.151 25
    Trying 68.150.192.151...
    Connected to ns.boxclever.ca.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 mail.boxclever.ca ESMTP Postfix
    quit
    221 Bye
    Connection closed by foreign host.
    and, reverse DNS:

    Maybe they won't talk to any server whose name given in the Reverse DNS PTR record doesn't have an A Record that matches. You might want to check that.

  • Is any SMTP server included in the Application Server

    Hi,
    My system is configured to send emails using an external SMTP server, however the initial configuration of it was using it's own IP (localhost).
    Since I'm new at SAP, I would like to know if by any chance there is already an SMTP server in the system. (And if there is were do I configure it, so far I only know SCOT transaction).
    Thanks

    No, SAP doesn't provide an SMTP server. The SMTP node in scot is only pointing to another SMTP system..
    Kind regards,
    Mark

  • SMTP Server Offline

    Hi all, OS X 10.8.3:
    For some time, through several OS upgrades, Mail.app has been unable to create iCal reminders from appropriate date/time data. Not only does the reminder fail to appear in iCal, but Mail behaves bizarrely afterwards, necessitating quit and relaunch.
    But now I have a much more annoying problem. I am told "SMTP Server offline". Initially, I assumed it was a temporary problem at my ISP's end. But then I realized that the oher Mac - on the same network - can still send.
    Restart makes no idfference. DFA and Repair Permissions report no problems, while Techtool Pro finds hundreds of "bad" files.
    Console generates this error message every 10 minutes... is there a clue here?
    "16/04/2013 9:40:08.050 AM Mail[222]: [<_LibSasl2SASLClient: 0x7fb2dd8241b0> mechanism: PLAIN security layer: no] Failed to start the SASL connection
    SASL(-1): generic failure: "
    Thanks.

    I have found the solution.
    One of the settings under Mail.app's Preferences, Accounts, Advanced pane is "Use SSL?" This must be left UNchecked for my ISP. The confusing thing is, it WAS left unchecked.
    I had a new email being composed, and decided to open the pull-down SMTP List at the bottom of the email dialog's header. I selected "Edit SMTP List" and then highlighted the troublesome entry. Under the Advanced tab, was the setting "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" and it was selected!
    I.e. despite being set to OFF in the Preferences dialog, it was ON in the "SMTP List" dialog.
    This would seem to be a bug. Anyone know how to report this to Apple?

  • Call Home w/o SMTP Server

    The Cisco 9216i switch's mgmt interface is on a private LAN that does not have an SMTP server. Is it possible to route outbound email through a gigE interface which is also an FCIP ISL?
    Has anyone had success at implementing Call home without a SMTP server? For instance, it would seem feasible to forward either SysLog or SNMP Traps to a receiver then have email initiated from the receiver.
    This seems like a weird limitation given all of the other capabilities of the switch.
    Thanks, Craig

    Hi Craig,
    Callhome through the gigE won't work. Reasoning is as follows. When you do a Callhome alert, the Callhome process will attempt to setup an SMTP connection. If you define a static route out the gigE interface then it will at least initiate the first TCP SYN out the gigE interface. The SYN packet is destined for the SMTP server (tcp port 25) and will be sourced with the gigE interface ip address. But when the SMTP server replies the TCP stack behind the gigE interface will issue a RST (reset). This is because the gigE TCP stack will not accept TCP connections other than FCIP or iSCSI. This is by design. For the same reason you cannot bring up the MDS http welcome screen through the gigE ip address.
    You can however use IPFC to route the Callhome SMTP traffic over the FCIP ISL to a remote switch that is acting as a default IP gateway, but of course the remote switch must have ip connectivity via it's mgmt interface to the SMTP server.
    Lastly, Callhome always requires an SMTP server. Forwarding traps to an external management server that then uses email or pager is an alternative to Callhome...you won't need to enable Callhome feature to do that.

  • Mail - SMTP Server Fails

    I'm completely baffled about why I can't succeed at sending email. I just went over all the settings with the ISP, and they say they are correct. Guy sounded kinda green, though. So maybe I'm not completely baffled.
    I'm getting some conflicting data from Mail. The default set-up was for SMTP on port 465. My ISP wants Port 25. I'm running the Connection Doctor, which tells me I'm getting through to the POP server, but not SMTP. Passwords are identical, and working with the POP server.
    The ISP uses a very vanilla SMTP set-up:
    smtp.fubar.com
    Port 25 (Which I reset to Port 25)
    myusername
    no SSL

    Heres a log of a connection session:

    Apparently, my ISP needs better help. It seems two things were going on ...
    my return email address for the account I was setting up is not the same domain as the SMTP server. It appears that the connection was initially choking because of the mismatch. My usual email client, Mailsmith, doesn't introduce this problem, even with the same settings. Hmmmm ...
    After I fixed that, it still didn't complete, however. But I got some good information from the Connection Doctor, finally. The SMTP server doesn't require authentication. My configuration was trying to authenticate, based on information from the ISP that both servers "use the same password". Ah well ...
    Once authentication was turned off, it then started taking outgoing mail. Problem solved, I think.

  • /usr/bin/mail buggy or smtp server picky?

    I want to use mail to send email quickly from my terminal and decided to use msmtp as my smtp client to keep things light and straightforward.
    However, when I use /usr/bin/mail to send an email to [email protected], my smtp server (mail.messagingengine.com if you are interested) queues the email that was delivered by my /usr/bin/msmtp client fine (I get an OK for queue message), but after a couple of hours I get an NDR (Non Delivery Report) saying that my message couldn't be sent and will be retried until ultimately I get an NDR that my message couldn't be delivered.
    After some debugging, I realized that the reason the smtp server was having trouble is that my message didn't contain the From: header. Since the from address is already specified in the envelope upon SMTP-initiation, it seemed to me illogical that the smtp server couldn't just use that email.
    So I opened a ticket with those guys over at fastmail.fm, and they told me that the problem was not with the SMTP server, but with the mail client, which creates "invalid" messages (i.e. not sending the From: header). Since I trust my provider to know his stuff, here's my question:
    How can I tell /usr/bin/mail to insert a specific From: header?
    Thanks!

    Hello fukawi2,
    my ~/.mailrc contains one line:
    set sendmail=/usr/bin/msmtp
    Here's what happens when write an email using /usr/bin/mail from the mailx 8.1.1-7 package:
    [x@eee ~]$ mail [email protected]
    Subject: hello
    Another test
    EOT
    Here's how /usr/bin/mail passes my email to msmtp:
    /usr/bin/msmtp -i [email protected]
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: hello
    Another test
    Here's what my msmtp config looks like:
    #~/.msmtp
    account fastmail
    from "[email protected]"
    host mail.messagingengine.com
    auth on
    tls on
    tls_certcheck off
    user [email protected]
    password "*"
    logfile ~/msmtp.log
    Here's what the msmtp log shows when I send the email:
    nov 18 00:28:41 host=mail.messagingengine.com tls=on auth=on user=[email protected] from=[email protected] recipients=[email protected] mailsize=41 smtpstatus=250 smtpmsg='250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as C3A00A7B7' exitcode=EX_OK
    I will send the NDR from the SMTP server when it arrives (takes a couple of hours) if you'd like to inspect it.
    Maybe ssmtp has a way to insert a From: header automatically, I haven't taken a look at it. Maybe even msmtp has a way to do that, even though I haven't found that option in the man pages.
    What I am trying to say is, if the /usr/bin/mail program cannot be configured to create a valid rfc-compliant email, then using an intermediary mail transport agent like ssmtp would only be a workaround but not a permanent fix. Hence my suggestion to replace mailx with a compliant, working package in the arch core install.
    Any ideas on how to proceed from here?

  • SMTP Server in JDev's Embedded OC4J

    I would like to send an email running an ADF/JSF web page (i.e. the email ADF email demo). One required parameter is the SMTP server. Does JDev's embedded OC4J server have included with it a SMTP server that I can use? If so, how do I get at its name? If not, do I need to download and run an SMTP server separately? If so, what are some recommended SMTP servers?
    Thanks!

    After adding a DB connection to the BPEL dehydration DB, in the JDEV dev environment, I could not run any application in the embedded OC4J Server. I get the following exception, even after removing the the connection.....
    07/03/20 11:57:15 SEVERE: ApplicationStateRunning.initConnector Error occurred initializing connectors. Exception is: Exception creating connection pool. Exception: oracle.oc4j.sql.config.DataSourceConfigException: Unable to create : oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver
    I was able to resolve the issue copying the olite40.jar to the j2ee/home/applib folder.
    I couldn't understand why the embedded oc4j, would try to create connection pool for the db connection set up in the dev environment? also why it didn't go after deleted the same from the dev environment connection?

  • How to get default SMTP server name

    Hi,
    I want to know the name default SMTP server configured in machine. How i can get this through my java code.
    Help me on this

    You can find STMP server configured in hostname, in ask to dns of domain who is mailserver, you need to find MX records :
    - look a DNS config : NS (name server) , CNAME (Alias) , MX (mailexchange) etc...
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.Hashtable;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import javax.naming.directory.*;
    public class MXLookup
         public static void main(String args[]) throws NamingException
              System.out.println(getMX("altern.org") + " mail servers");
         private static ArrayList getMX(String hostName) throws NamingException
              // Perform a DNS lookup for MX records in the domain
              Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
              env.put("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory");
              DirContext ictx = new InitialDirContext(env);
              Attributes attrs = ictx.getAttributes(hostName, new String[] { "MX" });
              Attribute attr = attrs.get("MX");
              // if we don't have an MX record, try the machine itself
              if ((attr == null) || (attr.size() == 0))
                   attrs = ictx.getAttributes(hostName, new String[] { "A" });
                   attr = attrs.get("A");
                   if (attr == null) throw new NamingException("No match for name '" + hostName + "'");
              ArrayList res = new ArrayList();
              NamingEnumeration en = attr.getAll();
              while (en.hasMore())
                   String x = (String) en.next();
                   String f[] = x.split(" ");
                   if (f[1].endsWith(".")) f[1] = f[1].substring(0, (f[1].length() - 1));

    How OWB is able to authenticate with the SMTP server?

    Hi, i am having trouble with my mac mail account, i cannot send or receive any emails because of the server connection problems. Message says it could not be connected to SMTP server. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Sue,
    I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
    I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
    It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

  • I cannot acess some of my emails. Thunderbird keeps saying "connection to SMTP server (email adress) timed out. What does that mean? What do I do please?

    I purchased 2 new email, adresses a few weeks ago. Both were fine but a few days ago I was stopped sending and stopped receiving emails on the one. The message comes up on my screen "connection to SMTP server (followed by my email adress) timed out. That does not mean a thing to me. What should I do please?

    Thankyou.
    I had been asked by ICANN some days ago to do something but I thought it was a scam so ignored it. Most other users I have spoken to have never heard of ICANN or been asked to 'register' with them or whatever. Anyway, post writing to you I have now 'registered' with them . When I now click on my incoming email adress it just says "failed to connect to server" but why it fails I do not know.

  • My e-mails are not sending. "connection to SMTP server timed out." How do I get this working?

    As of yesterday, I am receiving e-mails fine; however, unable to send. Everytime I try to send an e-mail, I get "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server (my mail address) timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.
    I received help from lunarpages (they host my domain); however, they were unable to resolve the issue. They suggested something is blocking IP, or need to update Thunderbird, or there's a firewall there...
    Help!!!
    My clients are waiting for responses to e-mails!
    Thank you.

    To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
    *Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
    *Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
    ; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Cannot send emails - connection to SMTP server timeout

    I cannot send emails from my Thunderbird. Every time I try, an error message shows up saying that the connection to SMTP server has timed out:
    "Sending of message failed.
    The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.lineone.net timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator."
    I have looked at many different possible solutions and tried them, but nothing seems to be working. I have tried several different ports, failed to send in Safe Mode with Networking and Thunderbird safe mode without add-ons and tried many different settings. I have ensured that the my settings on Thunderbird match the settings that my ISP recommends. My anti-virus software is not affecting it either. Maybe there is something I am missing but I would really appreciate any suggestions!
    Here is some general info:
    Mail provider: lineone
    ISP: BT
    Anti-virus software: AVG
    OS: Windows Vista
    Thunderbird version: 31.5.0

    Hello @shredo,
    Firstly, I would suggest reading this support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages
    If that doesn't help, try some of these things (not sorted in any particular order):
    *Test your connection in another network. There might just be some blocked ports in your router or conflict of some sort.
    * Test your smtp settings in another email client (to ensure that they actually work). If it doesn't work, there might be some missmatch with the settings (even though you have ensured that they match), or some restriction by your router or something.
    * Apparently, compacting your thunderbird folders might help with this issue (something to do with too many "deleted", that are still there) - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_Tips_:_Compacting_Folders
    I hope this helps.
