Injecting a service in a  java FX component

Hi
I'm really thinking about using JavaFX as I found this technology simple and also I can reuse all of my java class in the fx script thus it's very interesting, and I'm really thinking on doing the jump.
But if I decide to really go in production with JavaFX I need to properly know what's the best way to manage the dependencies injection with javaFX.
I explain a simple case, I need to display a list of users in a fx component, and this users are living in a database. How will I manage this ?
The first and simplest option is to create a class UserManager with a static method : public static List<User> getUsers();
And inside my fx script I call UserManager.getUsers();
Well, this is working, but every serious developper know that calling every service statically is weak, for instance what if I need two UserManager class with connection to two differents databases, two different max results, two different creation date etc..
The second solution is to use a web service, but creating a webservice for a desktop application look artificial and involve extra work with no extra benefit (wrapping the request, unwrapping the answer, creating and registering the webservice ...), when a regular java call should do the work much quickly.
The good solution is to find a way to let a factory inject the service inside the fx script. But I really don't see how to do this.
What do you think about this ?

To my knowledge none of the DI frameworks support JavaFX yet but I could be wrong about this. I'm thinking about extending one of them but haven't gotten to that point in my own project where I need it yet. What you could do however is use java interfaces. JavaFX classes can implement a Java interface and generally this is the easiest way to allow Java code to interact with JavaFX code. So following along with your example what you could do is:
Declare the Java interface of your UserManager class and (build whatever concrete implementations you require)....
public interface UserManagerInterface {
    public List<User> getUsers();   // not static
}Also declare a Java interface of something that can accept a UserManagerInterface being injected:
public interface UserManagerClient {
    public void setUserManager(UserManagerInterface userManager);
}Have your JavaFX class implement this interface...
public class MyFXClass extends UserManagerClient {
    var userManager : UserManagerInterface;
    public override function setUserManager(userManager : UserManagerInterface) {
        this.userManager = userManager;
    public function initOrInitFromAnotherClass() {
        UserManagerFactory.createUserManager(this);
}So it doesn't really matter where your UserManagerFactory class is called from an the UserManagerFactory could be implemented in Java or JavaFX the point of the last method initOrInitFromAnotherClass() is simply to say that the factory is able to accept MyFXClass because it implements an interface that the factory can understand.
Hope this helps.

  • Any difference in creating a web service from a java class or session bean?

    Hi,
    The JDeveloper tutorial at http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/devdepandmanagingws/devdepandmanagingws.htm demonstrates creating a web service from a plain java class. I'm wondering:
    - Is it possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean instead of a java class? If so, what's the proper way to do this in JDeveloper? When I tried doing so in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 (SU5) using the J2EE Web Service wizard, the wizard did not list the session bean in the Component To Publish dropdown (it does list any java classes available in the project). I can proceed by manually typing in the name of the session bean. After the wizard completes though, the @Stateless annotation that had been in my session bean class code is removed and replaced by a @WebService annotation. The end result is that it looks like it made no difference whether I had tried to create the web service from a session bean or plain java class as the annotations in the resulting web service code are the same (although if I had started from a session bean, the class for the web service still implements the Local/Remote EJB interface that the session bean originally implemented).
    - Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean? I'm creating the web service from scratch so I also need to either build the java class or stateless session bean the web service would be based on from scratch too.
    Thanks for any ideas about this.

    Hi,
    EJB Session beans (EJB 3.0) are deployed as WebServices by annotating the class with @WebService and the methds with @WebMethod (both tags require you to add the JSR-181 library to your project (available in the JDeveloper list of libraries)). Unlike the J2E WebService, the EJB session bean service is turned into a WebService upon deployment. This means you obtain teh WSDL file after deployment
    - Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean?
    The difference is that EJB Session bean based web services are integrated with the J2EE container, which means that they can leverage container services like transaction handling, data sources, security, JMS etc.

  • XML Deserialization error while consuming Enterprise service in wd java..

    Hello,
    I am trying to build 2 webdynpro java webdynpro applications which consumes enterprise service for purchase order and another application for Busines partner.
    While i was able to successfully consume the PO service in webdynpro java and get the desired output for PO..i get XML Deserialization error while running appliation for Business Partner..
    These are the details/steps i followed for the Business Partner application:
    1. After creating the model using the enterprise service, i created a service controller from the model to the component controller..
    2. Out of many inputs/output attributes during mapping from model to component controller. i further mapped the context from CC to ViewC.
    3. In the wdDoInit() method, i added the follwing code:
        BPCreate model1 = new BPCreate();
        Request_BusinessPartnerERPCreateRequestConfirmation_In RequestC = new  Request_BusinessPartnerERPCreateRequestConfirmation_In(model1);
        BPERPCrteReqMsg_S CreateMessage = new BPERPCrteReqMsg_S(model1);
        BPERPCrteReq_SBP Cpartner = new BPERPCrteReq_SBP(model1);
    String Category = new String();
        String lf = new String();
        Cpartner.setInternalID(new String());
        Cpartner.setNumberRangeIntervalBusinessPartnerGroupCode(new String());
        Cpartner.setLifeCycleStatusCode(lf);
        Cpartner.setCategoryCode(Category);
        CreateMessage.setBusinessPartner(Cpartner);
        RequestC.setBusinessPartnerERPCreateRequestMessage_Sync(CreateMessage);
        wdContext.nodeBusinessPartnerERPCreateRequestMessage_Sync().bind(CreateMessage);
    4. When i comment this code and run the application, the aplication comes up but the input fields are non-editable..
    5. If i place this code in wdDoInit() method, i get the Deserialization error..
    Any idea about why this error occurs and which areas in the application can lead to these errors?
    I checked that the service runs fine in soamanager.
    Thanks, JVR

    Hi Kishore,
    This error is majorly because while executing this Webdynpro application you are not entering all the mandatory fileds of WS.
    Please try to execute this WS from WS-Navigator, check which fileds are mandatory and then
    appropriately instantiate it in wdDoInit and pass all the fields required.

  • [Best practice] How to call a service from custom Java code

    Hi all,
    I'm wondering what the best method is to call a standard service from custom Java code?
    In a specific situation iDoc script is extended with custom functions with a custom component. There's Java code mapping to these functions that is executing these functions. The iDoc script functions are called from a workflow entry script.
    In the Java code that runs when the custom iDoc functions are called, I want to call a standard Content Server service. I don't think that the m_service variable is available, so filling the binder and using m_service.executeService() probably isn't possible.
    Also, if it were possible (that is, if I want to call a standard service from my own custom service Java code), what would then be the best method to do so?
    Regards, Stijn

    Hi Sapan,
    Let me explain a bit further.
    I'm an UCM consultant trying to solve a problem that occured at a client when they installed the CS10gR35CoreUpdateBundle.
    Content items are entered into a Workflow when they are checked in. Part of one of the entry scripts of the a workflow step is that related content to the content item in the workflow is (re)submitted for conversion.
    To achive this, a custom component provides an iDoc script extension. This iDoc function (resubmitForConversion) is implemented in Java (the class extends ScriptExtensionsAdaptor).
    In this Java method, first the related content items are fetched. Then the service RESUBMIT_FOR_CONVERSION should be called for all dID's in of the related content.
    Thus, at a certain point in the custom Java code, a native Content Server service must be called. Of course the class of this Java code does not extend the Service class, so the m_service object isn't available.
    The thing is: before installed the 10gR35CoreUpdateBundle everything worked OK. This code was used to execute the service:
            Workspace workspace = CommonUtils.getSystemWorkspace();
            String cmd = binder.getLocal("IdcService");
            if (cmd == null) throw new DataException("!csIdcServiceMissing");
            ServiceData serviceData = ServiceManager.getFullService(cmd);
            if (serviceData == null) throw new DataException(LocaleUtils.encodeMessage("!csNoServiceDefined", null, cmd));
            Service service = ServiceManager.createService(serviceData.m_classID, workspace, null, binder, serviceData);
            UserData fullUserData = CommonUtils.getFullUserData(userName, service);
            service.setUserData(fullUserData);
            binder.m_environment.put("REMOTE_USER", userName);
            ServiceException error = null;
            try {
                service.setSendFlags(true, true);
                service.initDelegatedObjects();
                service.globalSecurityCheck();
                service.preActions();
                service.doActions();
                service.postActions();
                service.updateSubjectInformation(true);
                service.updateTopicInformation(binder);
            } catch (ServiceException e) {
                error = e;
            } finally {
                service.cleanUp(true);
                if (!CommonUtils.isWorkspaceConnectionInTransaction(workspace)) {
                     workspace.releaseConnection();
            }the first problem was that the CS began to complain that a transaction was started within another transaction. So I suspect that the 10gR35 update wrapped a transaction around a workflow script entry.
    With some decompiling I figured out how a service is called from iDoc with the <$executeService()$> command. So I replaced the code above with:
                  String cmd = binder.getLocal("IdcService");
                ServiceData serviceData = ServiceManager.getFullService(cmd);
                if (serviceData == null) throw new DataException(LocaleUtils.encodeMessage("!csNoServiceDefined", null, cmd));
                Workspace workspace = CommonUtils.getSystemWorkspace();
                Service service = ServiceManager.createService(serviceData.m_classID, workspace, null, binder, serviceData);
                UserData fullUserData = CommonUtils.getFullUserData(userName, service);
                service.setUserData(fullUserData);
                binder.m_environment.put("REMOTE_USER", userName);
                service.initDelegatedObjects();
                service.executeSafeServiceInNewContext(cmd, true);This solved the transaction problem but introduces another problem: !csUnableToResubmitItem,(null)!csIllegalScriptAccess,RESUBMIT_FOR_CONVERSION
    The Service Reference Guide says that the access level for RESUBMIT_FOR_CONVERION is 33 (Read, Scriptable). However, in shared/config/resources/std_services.htm the access level is specified as 2 (write).
    Thus, my question still is:
    What is the best method to call a standard Content Server service from any Java code (so without extending the Service class, or having the m_service object available)?

    Hi Experts ,
    Is it possible to call a java webdynpro component inside a SAP Workflow  from the task .
    If yes please let me the procedures .

    Sarmistha

    Someone has posted this, Take a look if it helps you:
    "1. Activate your service in transaction SICF;
    2. Activate the WS_HANDLER in SICF (probably you have to do more in SICF, SAP notes will be given to you in your browser when you want to call the service);
    3. Make the correct settings in WF_HANDCUST;
    4. Do ofcourse SWU3 including webserver activities;
    5. Define how you want to call the service via WF_EXTSRV including parameters;
    6. Generate a task from your defined service in WF_EXTSRV;
    7. Incorporate this task in your workflow definition;
    8. Test your workflow. Here you probably get some errror messages that the service cannot be called by for instance inactive ICF services. Activate the correct paths in transaction SICF."

  • Reading/Setting Process Data Objects from Java Spring Component or XSLT

    I have a BPMN process that references a Spring Component service.
    The Spring service has a Java class and within that class I'd like to be able to reference process data objects of the BPMN process.
    Ideally, I'd like to simply read and write to those objects within the Java class.
    However, if that's not possible, I don't I can set input parameters on the Java class and have it return an object.
    If I go that route, how can I pass in or return an object of a type other than your standard types (string, int, boolean)?
    For example, I have a data object that is a type I created based on a schema.
    How would I refer to that in a Java class?
    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Adam.
    I'm a little confused on the order of operations.
    Here are the steps I took:
    1. In JDeveloper, I created two Java classes: one interface and one class that implements it. Initially, the one method takes parameters that are Strings. I want it to also take a data type that's defined in a schema.
    2. In the composite, drag Spring Context component onto screen. This opens the XML and here I define the <bean> that points to the two Java classes I just created.
    3. In the composite, I create a pointer from the Spring component to Exposed Services and I create a new service, which creates the WSDL.
    4. Now I edit the WSDL to import the schema that defines the type I want.
    5. In my BPMN process, I add a call to the service I just created. For Data Associations, it recognizes the changes I made to the WSDL and I can map input variables to the new type added in step 4.
    Here's where I'm stuck. In the actual Java class, I don't know how to add the parameter for the data type I created. Where is this Java object created?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Invoking a AXIS Web Service with a Java object as input argument

    Hi
    I've been trying to execute a bpel process that invokes a web service deployed through axis.
    This web service takes a java object as input argument as opposed to data types that are directly mapped to java types through the SOAP engine.
    I deployed and tested the service outside of BPEL using a test client class. Everything works well.
    When I try to configure the "Assign" and "Invoke" activities so that service can be invoked, I cannot see the data structure through the variable picker and I see the following message:
    "The element {urn:ComplexTypeWebService}TimeSheetBean is not know to the schema container. Perhaps a schema file that uses it needs to include or import its definition.There mat also be an XML schema issue (non resolvable schema) which prevents {urn:ComplexTypeWebService}TimeSheetBean from being seen by the schema processor."
    Is there any example that demonstrates how to invoke an axis web service in such scenario? What am I doing wrong?
    Please, let me know.

    The passing of Java objects in and out of a web service is NOT supported. variables must be xml documents defined by a XML schema. In my opinion, missing Java object and WSDL is not a good idea. -Edwin

    Because you weren't told what to get, perhaps you already have it eh?
    What you want to read up about is JAX-WS, which is the webservice API bundled by default with your JDK (Java 6 and up). You'll find the wsimport tool in the bin directory of your JDK. I recommend you explore that directory and read up about all the executables you can find there, to be more prepared in the future. Know the tools you work with and all that. Most tools have a manual on this website:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index.html
    (under tools and utilities). Not wsimport, that is part of the jax-ws documentation. Better you look for jax-ws tutorials using Google, it will be quicker.

                   catch (Exception de) { System.err.println(de.getMessage());}
              document.close();Im using external jar file, of course I add it to classpath (right click soa project -> properties -> libraries and classpath ->add jar).

  • Calling a soap web service from a java desktop application

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to call a soap web service from a java desktop application? I've seen examples using Apache Axis, but it sounds like Axis needs to run on a web server and we are trying to avoid that. My initial thought was that, "of course we need a web server", but I'm wondering if there is a way to do this without a web server.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    Julie

    If you are the consumer you don't need any web server. The web server is only needed in the provider end.
    In java 6 there is a built in framework to call web services without the need of third parties (such as apache axis)
    take a look at:
    https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/guide/Developing_client_application_with_locally_packaged_WSDL.html
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/technologies/index.jsp
    For the provider end there is also a built in http server to expose web service via HTTP without the need to
    use any external web server.

  • Crystal Report Java Reporting Component Query

    Hi,
    If I am using the Crystal Report Java Reporting Component, do I need any other Crystal Report software to be installed during run time?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ron,
    the desired guides can be found here:
    http://help.sap.com/javadocs/cr/xir2/index.html
    http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/businessobjectsxi/en/en/JRC_SDK/default.htm
    The reason why you might not find the guide is as of Crystal Reports 2008 the JRC was integrated into the Crystal Reports for Ecplise package and is not availble separately anymore. See also the What' new-guide of Crystal Reports 2008 here:
