Insert - select error

I created a table like this...emp_id is primary key.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[employee] (
[emp_id] [numeric](18, 0) NOT NULL ,
[emp_name] [varchar] (8) NULL ,
[emp_address] [varchar] (128) NULL ,
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
when i try to execute this sql....i get an error.
insert employee (emp_id,emp_name,emp_address)
select distinct emp_id,emp_name,emp_address
from external_table
where emp_id is not null
order by emp_id
Error is...
Server: Msg 2627, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_employee'. Cannot
insert duplicate key in object 'employee'.
The statement has been terminated.
why i get this error?. I checked data...there is no duplicate
data.

Yes. That might also merge fields from different records.
Which may not produce the results you'd expect.
Another option. If your external table doesn't have a unique
key, you can create one by inserting the records into a temp table
with an identity column.
CREATE TABLE #TempExternalTable (
TheUniqueKey int identity,
[emp_id] [numeric](18, 0) NOT NULL ,
[emp_name] [varchar] (8) NULL ,
[emp_address] [varchar] (128) NULL ,
GO
Then use
insert employee (emp_id,emp_name,emp_address)
Select e.emp_id, e.emp_name, e.emp_address
from #TempExternalTable e
inner join (
Select emp_id, max(TheUniqueKey) AS MaxUniqueKey
from #TempExternalTable
group by emp_id
as t on t.MaxUniqueKey = e.TheUniquekey

    Hi,
All DDL operations will automatically commit all the pending transaction.
But in the care of FORMS_DDL, if you are running an insert or update statement, then the pending transactions won't commit. For that you have to pass a DDL statement through FORMS_DDL.
If I am wrong, then please correct me.
    Regards,
    Manu.

    Hi, joping to help.
try using IKM SQL CONTROL APPEND.
on Control tab in the second tab you have to see the list of the check. Are they set to "yes"?

    Hi,
    Trying to help....
Which KM you are using ?
In which step its failing ?
What is your Primary Key ? and can you please tell the source and target column mappings and conditions.
Are you missing some thing in this condition ?
    select (TRG2.INTERFACE_ROW_ID) from FUSION.ZCA_IMP_SALES_ACCOUNTS TRG2

    I mean equal condition in where clause (where TRG2.rowid = TRG.rowid )

  • UPPER Indexes cause select ERROR!

I downloaded Oracle 10g and installed it on a windows 2003 server. When I created UPPER indexes on a table, and the table has many rows, SELECT statement failed.
    for example:

  • Field Selection error for movement type and G/L account

I am currently experiencing a field selection error between movement type 601 and G/L account 7140000.  The problem field is 'Segment'.  This field is set to required for the G/L account, but it is hidden for the movement type 601. This inconsistency causes an error when posting the goods movement. According to business requirement the field must be required for the G/L account, therefore we must make this field optional for the movement type.
However, in configuration the field segment does not appear for the movement type 601. Therefore it can not be changed to optional.
Does anyone know a workaround other than making this field optional for the G/L account because the business requirement is to have this field as required?????
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
On the Error message detail, system will guide you to the Configuration details for Field settings for Movement type & Account, please get in touch with your FI consultant, to make the Field selection for the account similr to that of your movement type, this is a very common issue.

I've verified system level things - CPUs weren't/aren't max'd out, no significant paging/swapping activity, run queue not long. AWR report for the time period shows nothing unusual.
further info on the objects concerned:
    query source table :
    WF_Item_Attributes_PK : unique index on Item_Type, Name. Index has 144 blocks, non-partitioned
    WF_Item_Attributes tbl : non-partitioned, 160 blocks
    insert destination table:
    WF_Item_Attribute_Values:
range partitioned on Item_Type, and hash sub-partitioned on Item_Key
both executions of the insert hit the partition with the most data : 127,691 blocks total ; 8 sub-partitions with 15,896 to 16,055 blocks per sub-partition.
WF_Item_Attribute_Values_PK : unique index on columns Item_Type, Item_Key, Name. Range/hash partitioned as per table.
    Bind values:
    exe #1 : Item_Type (:B1) = OEOH, Item_Key (:B2) = 1048671
    exe #2 : Item_Type (:B1) = OEOL, Item_Key (:B2) = 4253168
    number of rows in WF_Item_Attribute_Values for Item_Type = OEOH : 1132587
    number of rows in WF_Item_Attribute_Values for Item_Type = OEOL : 18763670
The non-RAC 10.2.0.3 test system (clone of Production from last night) has higher row counts for these 2.
    thanks and regards
    Ivan

    hi Sven,
    Thanks for your input.
    1) I guess so, but I haven't lifted the lid to delve inside the form as to which one. I don't think it's the cause though, as I got poor performance running the insert statement with my own value (same statement, using my own bind value).
    2) In every execution plan I've seen, checked, re-checked, it uses a range scan on the primary key. It is the most efficient I think, but the source table is small in any case - table 160 blocks, PK index 144 blocks. So I think it's the partitioned destination table that's the problem - but we only see this issue on the 10.2.0.4 pre-production (RAC) system. The 10.2.0.3 (RAC) Production system doesn't have it. This is why it's so puzzling to me - the source table read is fast, and does few gets.
    3) table storage details below - the Item_Types being used were 'OEOH' (fast execution) and 'OEOL' (slow execution). Both hit partition WF_ITEM49, hence I've only expanded the subpartition info for that one (there are over 600 sub-partitions).

  • Cannot insert object error using Power View in Excel 2013

I created a short table in Excel 2013, positioned the cursor in the table and clicked Inset/Power View Report. I get a status window saying Excel is opening a Power View sheet but then I get a Power View error: Cannot Insert Object. I am able to insert new
tabs in the workbook. When I try the insert again, I just get the Power View error. I looked at other threads with similar issues and did the following:
Made the Formula bar visible - no change
Tried to repair Office 2013 but that option is not available when I right click on the program in the Control Panel
De-installed Silverlight - Tried to insert Power View Report. A Power View tab was created with the Power View picture and Power View ribbon. Got the message to install Silverlight and Reload. Installed Silverlight hit Reload and the Power View tab didn't
change. Hit Power View Report and got the Cannot Insert Object error message again.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you use PowerView first time? I notice you had found a similar thread and tested the solutions.
PowerView is an add-in in Excel2013, We must make sure that you check some option in the trust center and Add-in center.
    http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-excel/archive/2012/10/04/intro-to-power-view-for-excel-2013.aspx
    Location1: Excel Options>Add-in>Solver Add-in enable
    Location2: Excel Options> Trust Center> Add-in
Then you said that you couldn’t repair the Excel 2013, please refer to the following link:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/outlook-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx
At last, we may test it in clean boot, please refer to the following link:

  • How to insert select columns from one internal table to another

    Hi,
How to insert select columns from one internal table to another based on condition as we do from a standart table to internal table.
    regards,
    Sriram

    Hi,
    If your question is for copying data from 1 int table to other ;
    we can use
APPEND LINES OF it_1 TO it_2.
or if they have different columns then:
    loop at it_1 into wa_it1.
    move wa_it1-data to wa_it2-d1.
    apped wa_it2 to it_2.
    clear wa_it2.
    endloop.

  • Smart scan not working with Insert Select statements

We have observed that smart scan is not working with insert select statements but works when select statements are execute alone.
Can you please help us to explain this behavior?

There is a specific exadata forum - you would do better to post the question there: Exadata
I can't give you a definitive answer, but it's possible that this is simply a known limitation similar to the way that "Create table as select" won't run the select statement the same way as the basic select if it involves a distributed query.

  • How to Insert-Select and Updade base table

    Hi All,
How is the best way to do this?
    I have a table A that has 1million rows.
I need to Insert-Select into table B from a Group by on table A,
and Update all rows in table A that were used into Insert with a flag.
(select a hundred from A and insert 10 thousands into B)
    What to do?
    1-Update table A with flag before Insert-Select?
2-Insert-Select group by into table B, before Update?
    3-Another way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Edson

Either way. But you may find that updating the source flag first and then using that flag as part of your where clause when extracting rows to put in the destination table is a bit faster.
In any case, you will commit only once after all of the work is done.

    Hi all,
    I have a question,
Have you tried to rearrange the hierarchies and move a lower generation parent higher in dimension?
    So, for example:
    Current tree:
    Parent 1
         Parent2
              Base
    New tree:
    Parent2
         Parent1
              Base

  • "no content selected" error on nokia 5310

So i bought a pretty little 5310, and am loving it so far. have hit a few speed bumps when trying to upload with my mac, but have got alomst all of them fixed. almost.
the last time i updated my music library, i noticed my dedicated shortcut keys on the left of the phone no longer work on their own.
when i go through the menu, or use the shortcut key to initially access the music player, the dedicated keys will work for pausing, and skipping tacks. but, say i'm at the 'home' screen of the phone , and just hit the keys on the side. .. they show a 'no content selected' error.
when, in the past, after my first library update, if i hit those keys at ANY time, wether the music player was open or not, it would automatically play my library.
there is probably a ridiculously easy solution to this, but to hell if i can figure it out!
i've read every post on every board i could find, and read the manual six times.
    any suggestions?

    i've fixed the error!
apparently, the phones have TWO music players.
one in the menu shortcut key, and one buried in the 'media' section on the phone.
apparently, to play a playlist from the dedicated keys on the side, you have to use the BURIED music player in the media section.
once in there, select playlist, and choose your playlist. for me, i had to create a new playlist and manually open AND add EVERY song in my library to that new playlist, so that it would play nonstop with the keys.
try that - it may be the same issue for you, as my problem happened after i reformatted the memory card and re-added new music.

  • CRM 2007 - Insert an error message

After to check the consistency of field STRUCT.PROBABILITY I need insert an error message in screen (web client). I created the Enhancement Point in to method GET_PROBABILITY in attribute STRUCT.PROBABILITY.
How to insert this error message?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hello Daniel,
I would do this kind of validation in the controller of the view and not the context node by overwriting method DO_FINISH_INPUT. There you would do your check and then add the message by using a message service. Check the methods of the message service for the method which suits you.
      lr_mservice = me->view_manager->get_message_service( ).
            CALL METHOD lr_mservice->add_bapi_messages
              EXPORTING
                it_bapi_messages  = lt_msg
                iv_show_only_once = abap_true.
