Inserting data in database table

Hi Everybody,
Could any one help me out on this,
I have 2 tables ztab and ztab1 ,What i need to do is i need to check each coloum entry of table ztab against there check table if it eixst i need to insert that record in table ztab1 if not then i have to send a message .
From My knowledge Insert Command Does not perform the Checks agains the Check table.
I Would like to use CHECK statemet if any one has any Idea on using CHECK or other then Check Statement PlZ do share .

If you are using ABAP to update your table then there is no other way to validate from all 5 -6 check tables and you will have to select from all.
Statement "CHECK" will not serve your purpose as you have to give an error message if check fails or insert if check passes , so you can only use READ table with IF SY-SUBRC condition .
Even if you dont check the check tables you can insert
entries into ZTAB but then the referential integrity is violated .
Check tables entries are validated when user makes an entry in screen , like when you create a purchase order you cannot enter a non existing material , so I am not sure if you can have user extry on screen . If yes and there is a foreign key defined on table field, it will automatically validate and give error on screen.

Hi ,
1.)You must have to create a EO based on custom table and then VO based on this EO eventually to save the values in DB
2.) the row.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED); is used to set the the status of row as inialized ,this is must required.
3.) When u will create the VO based on EO the viewattributes will be created in VO which will be assigned to the fields to take care the db handling .
You must go thtough the lab excercise shipped with you Jdeveloper ,there is a example of Create Employee page ,that will solve your number of doubts.

As per my understanding are you looking for the complete API feature of data insertion into the database using the Locking Mechanism? If yes, then you need to create a Lock Object using the Primary keys of the Primary Table and Secondary Tables. You need to call the lock object first and then you need to make the entry into the table. This principle is based on 'All or None Concept'.

How do I run a database procedure that inserts data into a table from within a Crystal report?
I'm using CR 2008 with an Oracle 10i database containing a number of database tables, procedures and packages that provide the data for the reports I'm developing for my department. However, I'd like to know when a particular report is run and by whom. To do this I have created a database table called Report_Log and an associated procedure called prc_Insert_Entry that inserts a new line in the table each time it's called. The procedure has 2 imput parameters (Report_Name & Username), the report name is just text and I'd like the username to be the account name of the person logged onto the PC. How can I call this procedure from within a report when it's run and provide it with the 2 parameters? I know the procedure works, I just can't figure out how to call it from with a report.
I'd be grateful for any help.

Hi Colin,
Just so I'm clear about what you want:
You have a Stored procedure in your report. When the report runs, you want that same procedure to write to a table called Report_Log.
If this is what you want the simple answer is cannot be done. Crystal's fundamental prupose is to read only, not write. That being said, there are ways around this.
One way is to have a trigger in your database that updates the Report_Log table when the Stored Procedure is executed. This would be the most efficient.
The other way would be to have an application run the report and manage the entry.

I cant see any join conditions in your query posted. Whats the purpose of the query above. It will just bring you a cartesian product (cross join) of tables involved subjected to filters. Are you sure this is the correct query?
The error you're getting may be because you've not yet populated DimProduct or may be because of logic you used in popultaing DimProduct causing it to miss some records which is what query is referring to in above case.

How to insert large xml data into database tables.

iam new to xml. i want to insert data in xml file to my database tables.but the xml file size is very large. performance is also one of the issue. can anybody please tell me the procedure to take xml file from the server and insert into my database tables.

Unfortunately posting very generic questions like this in the forum tends not to be very productive for you, me or the other people who read the forum. It really helps everyone if you take a little time to review existing posts and their answers before starting new threads which replicate subjects that have already been discussed extensively in previous threads. This allows you to ask more sensible questions (eg, I'm using this approach and encountering this problem) rather than extremely generic questions that you can answer yourself by spending a little time reviewing existings posts or using the forum's search feature.
Also in future your might want to try being a little more specific before posting questions
Eg Define "very large". I know of customers who thing very large is 100K, and customers who think 4G is medium. I cannot tell from your post what size your files are.
What is the content of the file. Is it going to be loaded into a single record, or a a single table, or will it need to be loaded into multiple records in a single table or multiple records in multiple tables ?
Do you really need to load the data into exsiting relational tables or could your application work with relational views of the XML Content.
Finally which release of the database are you working with.
Define performance. Is it reasonable to expect to process this kind of document on this machine (Make, memory, #number of CPUs, CPU Speed, number of discs) in this period of time.
WRT to your original question. If you take a few minutes to search this forum you will find a very large number of threads with very similar titles to yours. These theads document a number of different approaches that can be used to solve this problem.
I suggest you start by looking for threads that cover topics like DBMS_XMLSTORE, XMLTable(), Relational Views of XML content, loading XML content in relational tables.

I would expect your insert statement to be this:

If you just create a string, it's not going to fill in variables into the string by magic.

Insert data from internal table to ztable.

Hello Expert,
I have a ztable with a primary key, now i want to pass my data from the internal table to the ztable . I am using modify option to
pass the data to the ztable but the problem is if the primary key value is same then its update the first record rather add one row in the zrable .But i want to push all the data what are available in the internal table though all the data are same. I even tried with Insert statement but its seems it doesnot work.
Can you please advice me the right approach.

It is all about the primary key fields of the database table.
Example:
You have a db table with following fields
MANDT (primary key field)
BUKRS (primary key field)
BELNR (primary key field)
GJAHR
VBELN
and it with same fields.
MANDT BUKRS BELNR GJAHR VBELN
120 0010 160000 2008 450000
120 0010 160000 2007 450003
120 0020 160000 2008 450000
200 0010 160001 2008 450001
200 0010 160001 2007 450001
If you use INSERT statement, only 3 of these will be inserted into the database table, why?
Because: Each database table must include one or a very small group of key fields that uniquely identify each table line by its value. These fields are known as the primary keys of the table.
And as lines 1 and 2 / 4 and 5 have the same MANDT BUKRS and BELNR only one will be inserted into the table.
If the database table is your own one, you will need to modify it so that it would work.

Maybe one good approach would be to create dynamically an external table for the file to be loaded, and then execute dynamically insert select into the table I said, so that you will have only one insert select for one file instead of using utl_file... RTM on that.If the file structures are the same, and it's just the filename that's changing, I would have a single external table definition, and use the alter table ... location ... statement (through execute immediate) to change the filename(s) as appropriate before querying the data. Of course that's not scalable if there are multiple users intenting to use this, but generally when we talk about importing multiple files, it's a one-user/one-off/once-a-day type of scenario, so multi-user isn't a consideration.

Retrive last inserted record from database table

some body inserting a record into table 'A' through some procedure/java program.i want to retrive the last inserted record from database table.records are not stored in order.Can any body help me.

In general, unless you are storing a timestamp as part of the row or you have some sort of auditing in place, Oracle has no idea what the "first" or "last" record in a table is. Nor does it track when a row was inserted.
- If you have the archived logs from the point in time when the row was inserted, you could use LogMiner to find the timestamp
- If the insert happened recently (i.e. within hours), you may be able to use flashback query to get the value
- If you're on 10g or later and the table was built with ROWDEPENDENCIES and the insert happened in the last few days and you can deal with a granularity of a few seconds and you don't need 100% accuracy, you could get the ORA_ROWSCN of the row and convert that to a timestamp.
If this is something you contemplate needing, you need to store the data in the row or set up some sort of auditing.

How to insert data into a table only when data has changed its value (when compared to the previous inserted value)

I wish to insert data into a table only when the value of the inserted data has changed. Thus, in a time series, if the value of the data at time, t-1, is 206 then if the data to be inserted at time t is 206, then it is skipped (not entered).
If the value of the data at time t+1 is 206, it is skipped also; until the value changes, so if the value at t+1 was 205, then that would be inserted, and if at time t+2 the data is 206, it would be inserted too.
What is the best way to do it without increasing overheads?

How to insert data into a table from an xml document

using the XmlSql Utility, how do I insert data into a table from an xml document, using the sqlplus prompt.
if i use the xmlgen.insertXML(....)
requires a CLOB file, which i dont have, only the xml doc.
Cant i insert directly from the doc to the table?
the xmlgen examples I have seen first convert a table to a CLOB xmlString and then insert it into another table.
Isnt there any other way?
