Inserting data in remote database with remote procedure

Hi,
I have a problem concerning inserting data in a remote database (10g) by using a remote procedure.
I call the procedure from a 11g database just by doing:
begin
getlocalfilecontent@remoteserv(param)
commit;
end;
And it wouldn't insert the data into the remote table.
While when I execute the same procedure locally on that remote database (10g)
It does insert the data I want.
What could be causing the problem here, am I overseeing something?

Already thanks for the fast replies
The dblink works perfectly. I can select data etc with this dblink.
The procedure on the remote database is the same.
One other thing, when I execute the remote procedure on local database 2nd time I get the
ORA-ERR: ORA-02041: client database did not begin a transaction.
This could be fixed by doing a commit or rollback but still no inserting in remote table.
So to sum it up:
What doesn't work:(no inserting)
On 11g server that calls remotely the procedure
begin
getlocalfilecontent@remoteserv(parameter);
commit;
end;
What works(does insert)
On 10g server calling the procedure locally
begin
getlocalfilecontent(param);
commit;
end;
So everything is the same except on the 11g server I add the dblink spec behiind the procedurecall

  • Cannot insert data from local database into remote database using subquery

I have two oracle databases on different host.
One is version 8i in Host A and the other is 9i in Host B.
First, I try to create a dblink in 8i to 9i, but it fail.
Then, I create a dblink in 9i to 8i, it success.
I have already tried some select statement in 9i to view the table in 8i, which is success and that means the dblink is really work.
    The sql statement is like
    Select * from table1@hostA
Then I have tried running some INSERT statement in 9i, which is copy data from table 1 in 8i to table 2 in 8i, both tables are in 8i. The sql statement is like
    Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2)
    select field1, field2
    from table1@hostA
    This also success.
Also, I have tried to use the following INSERT statement
Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2) values ('XXX', 'XXX)
    This also success.
However, when I try to insert data from table in 9i to table in 8i using the following INSERT statement, it failed.
    Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2)
    select field1, field2
    from table1
The statement can execute, but all the rows inserted with every field value equal to NULL. I have tried to run the select part, it can return the data. But when I run the INSERT statement above, the value inserted into table2 is all equal to NULL.
One more thing, I discover that the databases are using different NLS_CHARACTERSET
    9i is AL32UTF8
    8i is WE8ISO8859P1
Is this relevant to my problem?
Does anyone know the solution about this problem?
    Thanks!!

How is the best way to do this ?How much are you planning to send?
You can use COPY command. Ensure that you have valid database link between two databases.
    Available options are:
create - creates a new table. errors out if the destination table exists.
replace - drop the destination table and re-creates with data.
insert - inserts data if the destination table exists.
append– appends data into an existing table.
use set arraysize 5000 -The arraysize specifies the number of rows that SQL*Plus will retrieve from the database at one time.
    copy from scott/tiger@ORCL to scott/tiger@ORCL92 create new_emp using select * from emp;

  • SQLJ with EJB. Do not insert data in the database

    Hi All!
I4m developing an application using SQLJ and EJB (session beans,
container managed transactions), and when I try to insert data
in the database it doesn't work. All goes well (apparently), but
the changes do not have effect in the DB.
I've tried to use bean managed transactions, but when I try to
insert data, I get the error: NOT IN A TRANSACTION. The code of
the client in the bean managed is the following:

    Hi,
Are you sure it's a front-end bug? Try to double check your back-end code.
If you still believe the bug is in the front-end, try to debug the insertHandler function to see if you are attaching the UserVO properly into the UserEvent.
    Best regards,
    Pablo Souza

  • Can i insert data in my database from a web intelligence report?

if that's not possible, can I do it from a stored procedure based Universe or with a derived table? Does BusinessObjects in general allow me to execute statements to insert data in my database?

    Hi Erika,
afaik it is not possible write back to database from web intelligence .
from dashboards with web services you can achieve this.

  • Error while trying to insert data on a database through a mediator

I have build a simple project on 11g TP$, which consists of a mediator, a file adapter, that reads an xml file and a DB adapter that inserts data on a database.
The mediator connects the file adapter to the DB adapter and through a routing rule it inserts data on a table of the database.
When I try to run this project the input file is consumed by the file adapter, but after that I get the following error

I have checked the .xsd file and my xml several times and it seems that they are correct. Moreover, the .xsl file is also correct.
Does anyone have any idea of what may produce this problem?
    Thanks

I was finally able to get my project working. Heidi - You were right, there was a problem with the XSL generated by the XSL map editor.
I am trying to locate if this issue has already been reported, but I am highlighting it here, in case someone else faces the same.

  • How to insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type

    Guys,
I need insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type, when i am trying to that getting error.
error message says: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
    I have data in table a col1,col2,col3,col4 - col3,col4 has datatype as varchar and i am updating table b columns col1,col2 with table a col3 and col4.
Please guide how to do it.

    Hi,
Not any String can be convert to uniqueidentifier.
    1. you have to make sure u use a value which is fir to be uniqueidentifier
    2. Use convert or cast in the insert query in order to convert the string into uniqueidentifier
insert X ... convert(uniqueidentifier, 'string which fit to be convert to uniqueidentifier')
Please post DDL+DML for more specific help
DDL = Data Definition Language. In our case that is, CREATE TABLE statements for your tables and other definitions that are needed to understand your tables structure and there for let us to test and reproduce the problem in our server. Without DDL no one
    can execute any query.
How to get DDL: Right click on the table in Object Explorer and select script table as CREATE. Post these create table scripts here.
DML = data manipulation language is a family of queries used for manipulating the data it self like: inserting, deleting and updating data. In our case we need some sample data in order to check the query and get result, so we need some indert query for
    sample data.
If you post a "create query" for the tables and "insert query" with some sample, then we could help you without Assuming/Guessing. There is a reason that DDL is generally asked for and expected when discussing query problems - it helps
to identify issues, clarify terminology and prevent incorrect assumptions.  Sample data also provides a common point of reference for the discussion. A script that can be used to illustrate or reproduce the issue you have, will encourage others to help.

  • Need to insert data in 2 tables thro stored procedure

I need to create a stored procedure which will insert data in two tables. The procedure will get
its inputs from an Oracle Developer Form which will be inserted into the tables.
    The 2 tables structure:
    1.FEES_MASTER
    Name Null? Type
    FEES_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(8) -- Primary Key
CS_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(8) -- Class Student ID; An enrolled student
REC_DATE NOT NULL DATE -- Fees receipt date
REC_AMOUNT NOT NULL NUMBER(6) -- Fees receipt amount
    2.FEES_DETAIL
    Name Null? Type
    FEES_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(8) -- Foreign Key
MONTH NOT NULL DATE -- First of each month to identify fee month
    Scenario:
A student submits fees for 3 months through Master/Detail related blocks in a Developer Form as
    Under:
    Fees Master
    Fees ID : 11002
    Class Student ID : 356
    Receipt Date : 06-JAN-2001
    Receipt Amount : 1500
    Fees Detail
    Fees ID Fees Month
    11002 01-JAN-2001
    11002 01-FEB-2001
    11002 01-MAR-2001
I need to check each fees detail record for fees month duplication as well before inserting new records.
    How can this be achieved?
    Thanks in advance.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Fan Liu ([email protected]):
create primary key in the detail table. i think it's FEES_ID + MONTH. then mark the columns in Forms as primary key property true, then call check_record_uniqueness built-in in on-check-unique trigger.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Thanks very much. But what I need is to ensure transaction integrity thro stored procedure. The system allows a certain CS_ID (i.e. Class Student ID, which is assigned a new one to every student annually) to submit fees for 12 months only, because a student stays in a class for a year. The 2 columns in the FEES_DETAIL table are composite primary key which only ensures that a certain FEES_ID will not be repeated for the same month. But suppose:
1)this data already exist in the tables:
    Fees Master
    Fees ID : 11002
    Class Student ID : 356
    Receipt Date : 06-JAN-2001
    Receipt Amount : 1500
    Fees Detail
    Fees ID Fees Month
    11002 01-JAN-2001
    11002 01-FEB-2001
    11002 01-MAR-2001
2)And this data is currently being inserted:
    Fees Master
    Fees ID : 11300
    Class Student ID : 356
    Receipt Date : 04-FEB-2001
    Receipt Amount : 1500
    Fees Detail
    Fees ID Fees Month
    11300 01-JAN-2001
    11300 01-FEB-2001
    11300 01-MAR-2001
The data in the 2nd condition is perfectly valid but the application can't allow a student to submit fees for a month which he has already submitted. Now only a stored procedure can make sure after checking that the same student doesn't pay fees for duplicate months. Another reason for my emphasis on stored procedure is that what if a user tries to insert data thro an SQL* Plus session instead of the Form.
PROBLEM: Now the problem I am having is I don't know how the procedure will take input for multiple records from the FEES_DETAIL block in the Form.
Please assist in this regard. Thanks.

  • How is the best way to send data from local database into remote database ?

    Hi all,
I need to send data from local Oracle database into remote oracle database. Both sites connected via 128 kbps frame relay connection.
The sending need to be done once a week, can be done nightly.
How is the best way to do this ?
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

How is the best way to do this ?How much are you planning to send?
You can use COPY command. Ensure that you have valid database link between two databases.
    Available options are:
create - creates a new table. errors out if the destination table exists.
replace - drop the destination table and re-creates with data.
insert - inserts data if the destination table exists.
append– appends data into an existing table.
use set arraysize 5000 -The arraysize specifies the number of rows that SQL*Plus will retrieve from the database at one time.
    copy from scott/tiger@ORCL to scott/tiger@ORCL92 create new_emp using select * from emp;

  • Backing up remote databases with RMAN?

    Hi there
Implementing RMAN (10g) for the first time, and have a few general questions.
We want to use RMAN to backup a number of remote instances.
    1. What would be the architecture for this? Would i have a single, central RMAN instance ie a blank database with only a rec cat installed, and from there have all the target databases connecting in?
    2. How would these remote target dbs communicate with the RMAN instance? TNS? dblinks?
I know they have to be registered with the RMAN instance, but how would they be recognised to begin with?
    3. If i'm backing up to storage, does the storage need to be connected to the RMAN server, or the target database server?
I know these are probably really basic, but i've read through the manuals and these questions aren't adequately answered.
Thanks in advance to all who answer!
    Rup

    1. Its always a good idea to have seperate recovery catalog database, in case of a database loss, you have your backup information on other database.
    2. you can connect rman to target database as
    connect target /
    or
    connect target user/pass@mylink
    connect catalog catuser/catuser@catdblink
when connecting for backup, you have to connect to target (which you want to backup) and then to catalog database , so RMAN knows which is to backed up and where to catalog
    3. in all cases, rman will generate backup sets on target database server, you will have to nfs mount your storage to that server, if using tape library, then configure media manager for that target

  • How to insert data in to database table depends on Indicator

    Hi All,
I am working on Idoc to JDBC scenario. I am collecting & bundling(Using BPM) all the idocs and inserting the data in to the different database tables. Up to now my scenario is working fine. Now the problem is before inserting the data I have to check one of the Table field. If the field indicator is u201CYESu201D then only I have to insert data otherwise I have to wait up to the indicator field needs to be changed. Once indicator is u201CYESu201D then I have to insert all the collected idocs in to the database tables.
Can you please let me know how can I achieve this?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Purushotham

    Hi,
There are two ways you can achieve this.
    1. Instead of directly calling SQL statements write a stored procedure on database which will have first select query and then based on its result fire the insert query. For processing any logic like this stored procedure is the best approach. You can call SP from your jdbc receiver channel
    2. By using a BPM. In this case you have to first fire a select query in the database and based on the response from database, fire the insert statement from bpm only. basically you will be having 2 send steps to database. One with Select statement and another with insert statement. You need to handle your logic in BPOM in this case.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Thanks

  • Error upon inserting data in sql Database using stream analytics job: Datatye error conversion

I have a data passed into the Event Hubs, queried by stream analytic job inserting it into sql database. Upon running the job, it becomes idle a few seconds after since it has an error:
Message: Conversion from 0 to System.Boolean failed. 0 was of type - System.Int64.
Conversion from 0 to System.Boolean failed. 0 was of type - System.Int64. Exception message at level [1], exception number [0], parent exception number [0]: Conversion from 0 to System.Boolean failed. 0 was of type - System.Int64.
The data type in one of my field(IsHistorical) is Boolean with a value of false. The data type of the column in the sql table where this is to be inserted is of type bit. In this case, it seems that stream analytics could not convert the value "false"
into a bit data type when inserting in sql table.
I'm wondering if you already have encountered this problem. Could you help me resolve this problem?
    Thank you.

Azure Stream Analytics does not have Boolean type. On input we will convert JSON Boolean value to bigint.
Here is the list of supported types and conversions:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn835065.aspx
You  can fix this erro by changing column type from bit to int in SQL table schema.

  • Is BC4J a viabl option for database with stored procedure (ref cursor) API?

I'm about to begin a Web application development project. As foundation, we have a (Oracle) database of certain complexity that have a data access API developed with PL/SQL packages.
This API is designed to get data through stored procedures/functions that return REF CURSOR.
Personally I have been investigating about Oracle ADF/JSF, and a number of others J2EE technologies, and at this moment I am doubting if ADF BC are a viable option to my development team.
I think this because I have noticed that one of the great drawback in ADF BC is the lack of simplicity to get data through stored procedures/functions that returns REF CURSORS.
I have been looking for documentation and the only thing that I have found are two examples:
1.- One that really do not work (fails in get data from ref cursor): ADF BC StoredProcedure Sample application.
2.- And other published by Steve Muench in
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/03/03/gettingAViewObjectsResultRowsFromARefCursor.html. This sample works fine.
But, the problem with the approach of this last article is the amount (and complexity) of the code necessary to make so basic and recurrent operation as is "obtain data through a stored procedure (ref cursor)".
Below it is the code that I have constructed to call a function that returns a ref cursor (based on steve's article).
If this is the only way to make this (historically so basic and simple) task, then it is obvious that BC is not a viable technology to my (or I am in a mistake?), since we have about 50 stored procedures/functions to access the underlying data; that stored procedures/functions are key to development of the new application (and, still more, currently are used to anothers apps ).
By all this, I would like consult to Oracle's people:
1.- I really must reject BC as technology to implement this project ?
2.- It is possible to access stored procedures in a simpler way using BC?
3.- If the answer to 2 is NOT: in near future, the BC team has plans to give more support to the simple access to stored procedures?
4.- If the answer to 3 is NOT: what another technology you recommend to construct my data access/business tier and still be able to using the others characteristics of ADF?
Thank you very much for your guidelines.
    Regards, RL.

  • How to insert data into local database from oracle server

    I am new in C#.
I am trying to design a local database in my C# project and I am trying to sync my database with our oracle server. I can login using oracle server. But I can't insert data into my local database from oracle server.
    anybody can help me ...............
    thanks..............................

You can use SSIS package for that
Start a new Integration Services project in Business  Intelligence Development Studio/ SSDT. Add a new SSIS package with a data flow task. Add a OLEDB source to connect to Oracle server and add a OLEDB Destination to connect to your local database.
Select tables for source and destination. On executing package source data will get transferred to your local database.
