Inserting Google Earth video

Hello,
I've downloaded the trial version of Google Earth Pro and created a couple of "tours", movements from locations with Google Eath imagery which I might like to use in a film. The Google Earth Pro information says their service, when licence is purchased, is designed to be used in films, yet I can not see how that would work. The files the "tours" create are .KMZ and are tiny. In short they are not the kind of data filled files that one could conceive of importing into FC. Does anyone know how this Google Earth service might work? Are there any on-line resources I could turn to? So far I've not been able to locate any.
Thanks.

Google also have a Pro version that you get to pay money for so you can use all the maps with all the zooming in and stuff. They even give you an option to convert it to an FCP comptible codec.
I just ask one of my English mates thats a wizzkid on Windows and he nicks it all off Bing for me.

  • Working with WMV Google Earth Video

Howdy.  I am attempting to integrate a Google Earth movie I recorded (WMV format) into my project and to put it lightly... it's not going well.  Not only is it unable to render the timeline in the project window when it gets to the wmv footage (just gets stuck while audio continues), but it takes an insanely long time to render... six hours for a 30 second clip.
I took a shot at transcoding the clip using handbrake to mp4 but it crashed instantly when added to the premier timeline.
Sorry for the ametuerish question.  As you can tell, I'm new at this.  Any help is much appreciated.

Good news. AME is a good "converter" too, and is often overlooked. While it might not have the range of some dedicated conversion apps., when it can work with footage, it does a good job.
    Thanks for reporting your success!
    Good luck,

  • [SOLVED] Google Earth doesn't work with xf86-video-ati

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the open-source ATI drivers.  I haven't had much luck finding out anything from anywhere else, so I'm hoping someone here can help.
Whenever I start Google Earth, the graphics run EXTREMELY slowly, almost as if it's running on a system with low memory.  I'm running an Acer Extensa 4420 with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 64-bit processor with 2GB of RAM.  As mentioned before, I'm running on the open-source xf86-video-ati drivers, but this is the only app that gives me problems.  GL screensavers run fine, and glxgears runs without any significant input.  Running Google Earth in terminal also gives no output.
And I'm not sure if this is related, but closing Google Earth also crashes X.

This .drirc solves it. I don't have an xorg.conf.

  • Can you use Apple Maps to make guided tours and video recordings, similar to Google Earth Pro?

    Hi Fellow Apple's
I am using Google Earth Pro to make tours, I'm using the build in Movie Maker function to export the tours as video clips. Now my question is if there's anyway to do the same in Maps.? Perhaps I'm not the only one looking for a feature like this?
    Cheers,
    Mick

    No.

Try running with LIBGL_THROTTLE_REFRESH and LIBL_SYNC_REFRESH unset.
glxgears seems fine.  video is i810 and xorg7.1.

Same problem. Until today's upgrade (libgl-dri, mesa), gl didn't work well. Today, the framerates are up to normal (which for me means c. 1000), and Google Earth works correctly again, but the error message is still there. I could ignore it, of course...

I'm running arch64 and so far I've never been able to watch youtube videos around the world under google earth.
I'm running bin-32-google-earth but I've tried to install from the binarie too and same thing happens, when I want to watch these videso I only get get a white window and the video never starts.
I have to precise that I can see every youtube videos with firefox, even with google maps.
Maybe I have a clue about this, couldn't this be a 64bit/flash thing issue?
If someone is actually able to watch them under google earth (arch64) please let me know;)
    Here is what I have:

You are using Google Earth 32-bit edition so you should try to add the 32-bit flash plugin. A 64-bit plugin wont work with a 32-bit program or vice-versa.

yes Google maps can be inserted in flash using Google Api for Flash.

  • [ISSUE FOUND] Help Request Stabilizing Google Earth 7.1

    Good Morning Fellow Archers,
Arch is my main OS, I have a Windows 7 partition for Games (Skyrim).
I am x86_64, running the 32bit libs, NVidia GTX-660 platform, with the "ck" kernel option for my Piledriver CPU with the associated "ck" nvidia modules. The system works very nicely. And I couldn't be happier with Arch as a distribution!
I have started cycling in the last 7 months for health reasons, and in preparation for a disabled veterans Sea to Shining Sea ride in 2014 that I want to participate in (San Fran to Virginia Beach). I use Google Earth (G.E.) to map out various long-distance trails/paths locally to take as training runs with my riding partner.
I use Google Earth in my Windows 7 partition because I cannot get Google Earth 7.1 running stably under Arch. And I openly acknowledge that the "path" section of G.E. is glitchy in and of itself....platform independent. I am OK with that.
Yesterday, I followed some other threads and downloaded from the AUR. I installed the one package I needed, "ld-lsb", installed, and then did the usual "makepkg -s" for Google Earth. What it brought down was the x86_64 version of Google Earth, instead of the i386 version that I was expecting, mentioned on the AUR page.
There was no resultant ".xz" package from which to do a "pacman -U". But the layout was kind obvious where to put things so I manually moved things around as indicated. There was a launcher script that came with the tarball that set environment variables and performed some font stuff before actually launching G.E.
I launched G.E. using the included launching script from a cli, so I could observe what was going wrong. G.E. came right up, and the fonts did not look wierd as in previous releases. There are a lot of repetitive errors showing up in the cli, but G.E. at least runs.....until....You click on a photo or a place, add more than a few "nodes" to a "path". Instant crash, no signal traps, no nothing...it just vanishes into thin air. And it will not launch again until I restart my D.E. and/or "zap" the "X" server. I am assuming this is necessary to clear out some environment variables that are temporary in nature that the launcher script setup, although I do not know this for sure.
I have included the copy-n-paste error trail from the cli at the bottom of this post.
I have also attempted to install the Windows version under Wine to get around the issue, with no luck. The G.E. installer can't seem to find the internet conenction and dies. The wine-gecko app is installed, as I have one other Windows specific reference software package installed under Wine...that uses the network to update itself. It works just fine....telling me that my Wine install is OK.
I see that others using Arch seem to have G.E. running stably......
I am requesting assistance to get my G.E. installation stable as well. I have no idea where to start....
    Some assistance please?
    Sincerely and respectfully,
    Dave.

    I did one more test......
I rebooted with the stock Arch kernel and stock modules for NVidia......The issue remains. The problem is not specific to the "ck" kernel series and their associated video modules.
One more tidbit...I am running pure systemd.......and 16Gb of ram that memtest86 "blesses". And I am not overclocked in any way. The AMD Piledriver (bulldozer Rev II) doesn't need it at all...and I don't like pushing things anyway. I use the "ck" kernels because I can get them compiled specifically for my CPU and I do notice significant responsiveness gains. A Thank You is in order to graysky for providing these kernels.
    Dave.

  • Problems w/MS Office 2008 & Google Earth Ever Since Snow Leopard "Upgrade"

I probably should have checked this forum before taking my son's advice to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6. Ever since this upgrade, I've had repeated and frustrating problems with two applications: MS Office 2008 for the Mac and Google Earth for the Mac.
Note that I did an "in-place" upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, i.e., I inserted the installation DVD into my iMac and then double-clicked on "Install Mac OS X".
Office 2008: Ever since the Snow Leopard upgrade, MS Office 2008 has been crashing. Typically, it's Entourage crashing when a crash does occur because that's the office app that I run 95% of the time. However, whenever Entourage crashes and I try to launch Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, they won't launch either... The icons will bounce a few times in the dock but won't run. (The Entourage crash is the only Office App that actually generates a crash window.) Note that there are two identities configured on my iMac, both of which which use Entourage. The key thing about this situation is that when the Office 2008 crash does occur, restarting the iMac ALWAYS resolves the problem until the next time a crash occurs. I've tried to determine what combination of events, i.e., apps open/being used in either/both identities, etc. is the trigger, but I can't find anything obvious. Sometimes I can use the iMac for a whole day without a crash, but that's unusual. If Entourage is left open in both identities, maybe a couple of days will pass without a crash, but invariably it happens again, and then it's reboot time again. In cases where Entourage is left running (in one or both identities), we will still eventually get a crash in one of them if one of us tries to open a WinWord attachment (with a "Not enough memory to run Word" error). If at that point I close Entourage and try to restart it, it crashes. I've tried everything I could find on the Office for the Mac forums, including deleting duplicate fonts, doing a safe start-up, fixing disk permissions via Disk Utility, zapping the PRAM, turning filing sharing off then on (including deleting everything listed in the Shared Folders section), logging out/logging back in, etc., all to no avail. One of the Office 2008 for the Mac forum contributors suggested that the problem was with my Snow Leopard Install, but then a contributor to another more general Apple forum blames Office for Mac. (This is exactly the sort of finger-pointing exercise that I'd hoped to avoid when I made the plunge from being a long-time Windows user to becoming an OS X user...; - )
Google Earth: This just flat-out WILL NOT RUN ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I try to run it, it bounces in the dock for about a minute then just stops, staying fixed to the dock until I do a Force-Quit. (I don't have it permanently tethered to the dock since I only use it occasionally.) I've tried deleting/reinstalling, including Google Earth's suggestions to remove files from my identity's Google Earth folder in the Library folder, but no dice.
My take on all of this is that despite all of Apple's advertising to the contrary, their OS (including updates to their OS) isn't necessarily as trouble-free/stable as their anti-Windows spots would have you believe. Sorry for this long post, but any help would be much appreciated.

I left my system running all day in 64-bit kernel mode. (I left Entourage running the whole time.) Just now closed Entourage and tried reopening it. Same deal with Google Earth. They both crashed. Here's a screen paste of the entire Microsoft crash log for Entourage:

  • Google Earth Flight Simulator

Is my system capable of operating the Google Earth flight simulator?
I have the pre-Intel version of the Mac Mini upgraded to 1MB Ram, recently purchased 19" View Sonic monitor with DVI connection.
The Google Earth flight simulator has a slow prop plane and an F-16.
I do not have a joy stick but would get one if my Mac Mini is up to handling the requirements of a flight simulator.

I notice you say you have the 'pre-Intel' Mac mini, which would make your mini a PPC first generation system. I think you mis-stated your memory (RAM) @ 1mb, which should probably say 1gb. If you had 1mb it'd be a massive downgrade and your system most certainly wouldn't run.
That being the case, you'd have the ATI Radeon 9200 32mb built in video card. That card uses it's own discreet video memory, and is actually a bit better than the early Intel GMA950 integrated video.
You thus meet the specs for Google Earth, but it's probably not going to run all that quickly on the system, mainly because of the relatively slow processor. The main snag would be the load time, as it loads slowly even on my Intel mini. I've not tried it on this PPC mini, but it should work - just don't expect crisp video game play type results. The flight simulator in Google Earth is not really meant to be a full video game though, so you may find the performance adequate.

  • Google Earth glitches

After a long time not using it I installed Google Earth 5. What is strange is that the maps render OK, speed is acceptable, but the fonts in some menu entries get garbled up, as well as the text that appears in the map (like e.g. city names, map data etc). Characters are missing or distorted. The same happens with text that appears when hovering over an icon that indicates pictures or wiki entries.
It looks like an overlay proble, but I am not sure how to fix it.
I run it under KDE4 on an HP laptop with Intel 945 GM chip. Have already tried disabling Kwin effects, changing fonts in Google Earth and changed some settings in xorg.cong (AccelMethod EXA) but no difference.
Starting in a terminal gives no errors either. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem (GE5.0, KDE4.3, Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel 945GM).  I believe it started when the X system video driver "i810" was replaced with the new "intel" driver, during the upgrade of kernel 2.6.27-2 -> 2.6.27.10 (I'm now using 2.6.28).
There appear to be two categories of fonts in the text overlays: a slightly larger font used for placemarks, labels of picture and wiki entry icons and for the text at the bottom of the screen, and a smaller font that's used for street names.  Often now, one of these two font categories is intact, i.e. all the letters are there, but many of them are missing in the other, and then again, after I clear the cache or change a font or do some other things, the situation is reversed.  As for numbers, all of them but the numbers 8 and 9 are always missing, and I can't read the calibration on the distance ruler nor the elevation or the geographical location.  The most usable 3D font I've found is Helvetica Bold 12; others are even worse, in terms of legibility.  But with all of them, there is always something missing.
This is not a problem with GE but rather with font rendering in Linux that is probably specific to the new "intel" video driver.  I.e. when I replace the "intel" video driver with the "vesa" driver (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf), i.e. run GE in OpenGL with software emulation, then all the text in the overlays is there, but GE runs very slowly.  I can't use the older "i810" driver either because that one was removed during the upgrade to the "intel" driver with kernel 2.6.27.10.  It's not compatible anymore with the newer kernel: the "i810" driver would crash the system and X windows would never start up.
This problem is extremely annoying, and it seems to be fairly widespread with GE for Linux but nobody seems to have come up with a solution.
Some pertinent (?) entries from my xorg.conf:
    Identifier "Xorg Configured"
    Option "AIGLX" "true"

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Google Earth Freezes with Intel Graphics

I'm using an I7 K2700 Sandy Bridge. Google Earth shows funny fragments before a picture stabilizes and if you dare to zoom to quick it freezes the whole X-server.
Unfortunately also no log entry. My previous PC with NVIDIA video and closed source driver worked perfectly with Google Earth.
Doubting the 3D acceleration I tried using "Neverball", which works perfectly.
Any suggestions I could try out?

    Thanks, that's my trouble too!
"When i downgrade lib32-intel-dri lib32-libgl to 7.11 version everything seems to be OK."
Since so far this is the only conclusion which is not a really clean solution we might keep this issue open.
If Google Earth is incompatible to the latest versions of lib32-intel-dri and lib32-libg there isn't much the AUR maintainer can do.

  • Google earth crashing[SOLVED]

The current AUR PKGBUILD doesn't run on this system.  I have an ati x200m using opensource drivers (radeon).  I installed an older package 5.0.xx and I get less errors but it still crashes.  I am guessing this is a video issue, but whatever it is I can't google a way to fix it.  Any suggestions?
Failed to load "/opt/google-earth/libevll.so" because "/opt/google-earth/libevll.so: undefined symbol: gluNewTess"
EDIT: I've also rebuilt with this version - google-earth-5.1.3535.3218-1, I am getting the same error message.
EDIT SOLVED: I needed to install freeglut.  This was not necessary on my desktop because I am using nvidia drivers.

  • [SOLVED] Google Earth signal 11 again

I'm getting the now infamous 'signal 11' error when trying to run Google Earth.
I've tried the suggestions in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=114992 with no luck and also reinstalling GE and all its dependencies.
Does anyone have any more ideas I can try?
System is i686 with nvidia graphics.  Crash log is at http://pastebin.com/W4X4AgXd
    Many thanks,
    David Shaw

I was caught out by "GE has caught signal 11" a couple of days ago (using nouveau driver with nvidia hardware). I don't have any .drirc or dri file (as mentioned in old thread 114992). However, I copied librarian.launchpad.net/7037027/libGL.so.1 into the directory /opt/google/earth/free/, and this got GE working, although the video quality wasn't so good. Then I installed ia32-libs in my copy of debian in virtualbox, then copied /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 from there, as libGL.so.1, back to arch to replace the one from launchpad.net. GE is now working perfectly.
I don't really understand any of the above. This is my 2nd installation, on a separate drive, but otherwise using the same hardware as the first, which was done using the official media. This one is from releng.archlinux.org, 2012/04/10_04, netinstall, x86_64. On the first, I couldn't get alsa to work and had to use oss for sound. With this one, alsa worked out the box, which is very nice. However, in addition to this google earth thing, I had significant trouble configuring an automatic wireless connection, and a problem with my samba server.
    Oops - I had failed to install lib32-nouveau-dri !!!

Does that plug in cause any problems on the mac computer? My mac processor is 2.7 GHz Int Core i5 with 8 GB 1333 MHzDDR 3. I am running Safari 6.0.4 with Lion 10.7.5. Thank you.

No, you should have no troubles. Just go to:
