Inserting LOBs with OCI

I'm trying to write a function that will accept any insert/update type statement using OCI. The problem is when there are column of CLOB/BLOB type.
These require a 2 part insrt statment:
1. "INSERT INTO FOO VALUES (EMPTY_BLOB(),EMPTY_CLOB(),1)"
2. "SELECT A,B FROM foo WHERE c=1 FOR UPDATE"
Problem is, I have no way of knowing if the insert statement is using LOB columns, so I don't know to use the EMPTY _LOB function.
Any suggestions?

You can leave those columns null, if you want.
Looks like you were going to do a
CLOB myCLOB = getCLOB(), then get the characterstream from there?
I switxhed from that a while back, since it was so frustrating. Oracle, as of 8.1.6, seems to accept the setCharacterStream and getCharacterStream methods in the PreparedStatement/ResultSet (respectively) just fine. Switch to preparedStatements and you should be fine.

    We have actually found the 8.1.6_01 thin driver to be faster than oci at writing BLOB's and normalized data.
    Don't know why.

  • Is it possible to working in Java Stored Procedures with OCI driver?

    Hello ALL.
    Could you help me...
    Is it possible to working in Java Stored Procedures with OCI driver?
    I want to try to do some workaround...
    I need to work with following parametrs from Java Stored Procedures:
    DriverManager.registerDriver (new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver());
    String url = null;
    url = "jdbc:oracle:oci:@TEST";
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url,"scott","tiger");
    Is it possible?
    I tried but I have errors...
    Please, help me!
    Thanks

    You cannot call OCI functions directly from PL/SQL. You could, of course, write an external procedure that made OCI calls, though you could also write an external procedure in Java. I'm guessing the documentation is trying to convey this same information-- you would need an external procedure that used OCI if you wanted to use the old-school interfaces for LONG and LOB data types. If you converted to using LOBs rather than LONGs, you could do everything in PL/SQL.

  • Running OCCI 12.1 with OCI 11.2

    Hi there.
    A quick newbie question: can I compile and link my apps with OCCI 12.1 (oraocci12.dll) and have it run on top of OCI 11.2 (oci.dll) ?
    I'm not using any advanced OCI features.
    Thanks in advance!

    Not sure what you mean... oraocci12.dll depends on oci.dll, so you are implicitly using OCI when you use OCCI.
    But I was told by Oracle (a few years back, about 11gR1 at the time) that you cannot mix OCCI with OCI, despite having accessors to the raw OCI handles from OCCI. OCCI sometimes lag in its support of feature that first come out first for OCI, like it used to for 64-bit LOB sizes, or XMLTYPE support, etc... Since those limitations of OCCI made us invest in the lower-level OCI, I haven't followed up on OCCI much.
    Another drawback of OCCI versus OCI is that since OCCI is C++, you must always wait (sometimes for months) for Oracle to provide you with a version compiled with the latest Visual Studio, whereas OCI as a C library can be used with any VS versions.
    But otherwise OCCI is great, much simpler that OCI. By all means use OCCI if it covers all the features (and VS versions) you want to use. --DD

    But when we are creating the datasource with thin type of driver, it is working fine. We have already created a driver with name “ORACLE_DRIVER” in server using the ojdbc14.jar using Netweaver administrator consol.
    Same this is happening when we are creating the OCI type of datasource by using Netweaver administrator consol by specifying all the parameter as above and also the initial connection pool size is more than zero.
    Same thing is happening for normal (JDBC 1x) datasource creation with OCI type driver.

    So there was appox. 40% increase in performance by using pl/sql. I thought it could be even faster using the bulk-bind ing features and nested tables.

  • Query in Insert statement with JDBC Rx adapter

    Hi,
    This is a FILE to JDBC scenario.

    statement_s

      access
        A=1234
        B=1002
    key
       A=1234
       B ="10%"
         compareOperation= LIKE
    A(1..1) is primary key in DB and B(0..1) colunm is an optional one.
    I want to know if such kind of Insert query with(LIKE operator) is possible.
    Please reply me ASAP.
    Edited by: ram pranav on Feb 18, 2009 10:28 PM

    Hi Ram,
    IN case of "UPDATE_INSERT", you can use the KEY tag in your structure. Also you can provide LIKE as an attribute to the KEY element as follows :
    <key1>
         <col4 compareOperation=u201DLIKEu201D>val%</col4>
    </key1>
    But when you are trying to insert the data_, the <key> tags will be ignored and only <access> will be considered._
    action=UPDATE_INSERT
    The statement has the same format as for the UPDATE action. Initially, the same action is executed as for UPDATE. If no update to the database table can be made for this action (the condition does not apply to any table entry), values of the table described in the <access> element are inserted in accordance with the description of the action INSERT. <key> elements are ignored in this case.
    The response document has the following format; one of the two values is always 0 because either an UPDATE or an INSERT action is always executed:

  • Insert statement with Date, time into Oracle

    Hi,
    I've got the following statement that I'm trying to insert into Oracle. Actually had to change up the format to dd-mm-yy to get it to insert the date correctly, not sure why, but I've got it "supposedly" formatted to also insert the hours, min., seconds into the db record, but it's not catching it.
    My code:
    INSERT INTO VOTETBL
    (CHANGE_CTRL_ID,BUSVP,BRANCH,VOTE,VOTE_TIMESTAMP)
    VALUES (?, ?,?,?,to_date(sysdate, 'dd-mm-yy hh24:mi:ss'));Shouldn't the sysdate capture all those elements sufficiently? The day, month, year get inserted correctly with this, but not so for the time portion.
    Any suggestions is welcomed.
    Thx.

    ok, thanks.
    I tried making a result set with the following:
    Statement stmt = connection.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    ResultSet rst = stmt.executeQuery("select to_char(sysdate) from dual");
    Date dualtimestamp = (rst.getDate("sysdate"));But it makes the servlet blow up! Not sure why either, because if I enter that exact statement in Oracle, it pulls back the date and time just like I aim to. But not embedded in the result set statement within the servlet.
    It breaks up somehow and doesn't get that result!

  • BUG: retrieving NCHAR value using ViewObject returns "???" with OCI driver

    Hi,
    after upgrading JDeveloper to 10.1.3.1 we cannot use OCI JDBC drivers, because they don't work correctly - characters, that do not exist in database character set (EE8ISO8859P2 in our case) are converted to "?". Thin driver works well. We need to use OCI, because we had some issues with RAC with thin driver.
    Test case is easy: create table with NCHAR column, populate with unicode data, create ViewObject to select from this table and it will work only with THIN and not with OCI driver. This worked well with 10.1.3.0. When I tried to directly connect to DB and select that table using java.sql.Statement, it worked with both drivers, that's why I suspect the mechanics inside ADF BC.
    I logged a SR for this in Metalink, but try this way as well, for someone else could hit the same problem.

  • Transient VO insert error-Attempting to insert row with no matching EO base

    Hi ,
    I have a transient Vo (created using option - rows populated programmatically, not based on Query) and I need to uptade/insert rows in vo on click of a button.
    when i nsert row, i get following error

    This is what I am doing in my code
    ViewObject vo2 = am.findViewObject("TransientVO1");
    vo2.executeQuery();
    if (vo2 == null) {System.out.println("vo2 is null");}
    if (vo2 != null)
    System.out.println("in vo2 != null");
    Row row2 = vo2.createRow();
    row2.setAttribute("PlatformName", "ss");
    row2.setAttribute("UserName", "ss");
    vo.insertRow(row2);
    System.out.println(" vo2.getRowCount()"+ vo2.getRowCount());
    Why is it saying no EO base... is it mandatory to have EO for transient VO? Please help.
    Thanks

    The EO handles all DML, hence you need it if you have to set attributes in a VO. An EO handles the storage of a the single row (or part if your VO consists of multiple tables).
    You can try and overwrite the setter method of the attributes in ViewRowImpl class and store the changes somewhere else.

    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc8 in java.library.path
    Now why does XDK insist to look for ocijdbc8 if I only have ocijdbc9.dll installed on my client? The config file only allows oci8 in the dburl specification, which is probably why XDK insists to look for ocijdbc8, but I CANNOT specify oci9, which would make sense to me, although it's most likely not a valid specification.
    <connection name="9ic">

    <dburl>jdbc:oracle:oci8:@</dburl>
    <driver>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</driver>
    <autocommit>true</autocommit>
    </connection>
    So how do get XSQL Servlet to work with OCI 9i?

    If you are using the latest Oracle9i JDBC driver, which you should be able to get from OTN, it should look for the DLL with 9 in the name.
    Perhaps you have a "stale" JDBC driver somewhere earlier on the classpath?

  • Update/Insert Problem with Oracle Warehouse Builder

    Hello,
    i have update/insert problem with owb.
    Situation: I have a source-table called s_account and a target table called w_account_d. In the target table are already data which was filled trough the source table inserts. Now anyone make changes on data on the target table. This changes should now give further on the source table with an update operation. But exactly here is the problem i can´t map back the data to source because that will create a loop.
    My idea was to set a trigger but i can´t find this component in owb or is anywhere hidden?
    Also i have already seen properties as CDC or conditonal loading in the property inspector of the table, but i have no idea how it works.
    Give it other possibilities to modeling this case? or can anyone me explain how i can implement this eventually with CDC?
    I look forward for your replies :)

    Hi
    thanks for your answer. I follow your suggestion and have set the constraints of both tables into the database directly.Nevertheless it doesn´t work to begin. In the next step i found by right click on a table the listpoint "configure" - I goes to "unique key" --> creation method and set here follow options: Constraint State = ENABLE, Constraint Validation = Validate. That error message that appears before by the deployment disappears yet. Now i start the job to test if the insert/update process works right. Finally it seems to work - but not really.
    My Testscenario
    1. Load the data from source table about the staging area to data warehouse table: Check - it works!
    2. Change one data record in source table
    3. Load the source table with changed data record once again to staging area: Check - it works!
    4. Load new staging area table with the changed data record to data warehouse table: Check it works! BUT, BUT i can not recognize if it is insert or update operation, then under the design window by jobs execution windows is reported "rows selected 98", Rows inserted" is empty and "rows updated" is empty. So i think works not correct, then my opinion if it works correct it should show be "rows updated" 1.
    What can yet now still be wrong or forgotten? Any ideas?
    *By the way think not 98 rows there is not important if you make an update or insert which performance. It is an example table the right tables have million of records.*
    I look forward for your answers :)

  • Insert into with variables

    Hi!
    I've a procedure with a insert into phrase.
    For example:
    INSERT INTO type (NAME) values(A_CHA);
    type is not a table name it is a variable and name is not a column name it is also a variable.
