Inserting records in the table

Hi All,
I am working on a report where we are inserting huge numbers of records from an internal table to the ztable, I have been advised that rather than inserting all the records at one time we should divide the recods into small blocks may be let's say 100,000 of each block and try inserting the blocks in the ztable. So I was just wondering if anyone of you can help me with this how can I get this?
my internal table is it_data_table and my ztable is z_data_table.
Thanks,
Rajeev

Hi,
Rather than inserting records from the workarea it is better if you use the inetrnal table for insertion. If youu have say 50025 records than it will hit the database that many times which definitely is a performance issue.If you have an internal table say 'it' and another internal table 'it_temp' with a similiar structure, you can try something like as follows
loop at it.
  count = count + 1.
  it_temp = it.
  append it_temp.
  if count = 10000.
    insert ztable from table it_temp accepting duplicate keys.  "to avoid a dump if there are duplicates count = 0.
    refresh it_temp.
  endif.
endloop.
if it_temp is not initial.
  insert ztable from table it_temp accepting duplicate keys.
endif.
In the above code the loop will run the number of record times but, the insert statement will run only 50025/10000 times (i.e, 5 times). After the completion of the loop we need to add the remaining 25 records (because insert will work last inside the loop when 50000 records are reached), for that we will issue the insert statement after completion of the loop, after checking the it_temp table. So the total of 50025 records would be entered in a batch of 6 inserts rather than that many inserts if using just the workarea.
I hope this does help you in your issue.
Thanks and Regards,
Sachin.

    How to find last inserted record in the table "Manufacture".Not possible as your data model does not cater for it. That simple.
    If there is a need to determine some order or associate some time to an entity, then that should be part of the data model - and a relationship, or one or more attributes are needed to represent that information. Thus your data model in this case is unable to meet your requirements.
    If the requirements are valid, fix the data model. In other words - your question has nothing to do with Oracle and nothing to do with rowid, rowscn or other pseudo columns in Oracle. It is a pure data modeling issue. Nothing more.

  • How to insert records into the Table?

    Dear Sir,
    I'm new to JDeveloper. Now I managed to create a Frame in JDeveloper with many Text fields and a button. In the back end, I have a procedure to insert records to a table, to which I pass the values of the fields as parameters. Now I'm not getting the steps to call the PL/SQL Stored procedure when I click on the button. I'm using Oracle 9i JDeveloper version 9.0.3.1. and Oracle 9i Database.
    Please give me the complete steps to achieve my task - it is quite urgent.
    Thanking You in advance.
    Regards,
    Senthil .A. Perumal.

    The JDBC tutorial will show you how to call a stored procedure from Java:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/java.920/a96654/basic.htm
    One more thing, why are you using such an old version of JDeveloper? any reason not to upgrade to the 10.1.3 version of JDeveloper?
    Also you might want to look into ADF and how it makes these type of database interactions easier.

  • Relate to Inserting Record in the Table

    Dear Expert ,
    Records are getting inserted in a table to a perticular limit...then it stops inserting..
    when i delete all the records from that table...then again it starts inserting the new records. Again stops after a perticular limit...
    and goes on....
    why is it so..?
    this command is ok or not
    ALTER TABLE CCT_RM_DETAIL_HRI
    STORAGE (NEXT_EXTENT 50M, MAX_EXTENTS 200M,MIN_EXTENTS 1,INITIAL_EXTENT 100M, PCT_INCREASE 50M);

    I am not getting any error. And you've checked the logs too? Nothing there too?
    So what is occuring? Please understand, this is not normal behaviour for a database. Something somewhere is going wrong. But you need to explain to us in detail what you are doing, what you expect to happen and what actually happens. Because we cannot guess and we are not telepathic.

    I'm not sure about 8i features.
    I assume here that you don't have 'Date-Time' stamp columns on the table which is the easiest way to determine the last inserted row in the table.
    If not try the following :-
    select address, piece, SQL_TEXT
    from V$SQLTEXT
    where upper(sql_text) like '%INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME%'
    Substiute the TABLE_NAME with the name of the actual table.

  • Using combination of insert into and select to create a new record in the table

    Hello:
    I'm trying to write a stored procedure that receives a record locator parameter
    and then uses this parameter to locate the record and then copy this record
    into the table with a few columns changed.
    I'll use a sample to clarify my question a bit further
    -- Create New Amendment
    function create_amendment(p_mipr_number in mipr.mipr_number%TYPE, p_new_amendment_number in mipr.amendment_number%TYPE)
    return integer is
    new_mipr_id integer;
    begin
    THIS is causing me grief See comments after this block of code
    insert into mipr
    (select mipr_id from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    (select fsc from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    45,
    (select price from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    practical,
    (select part_number from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number);
    THe above will work if I say the following
    insert into mipr
    (select * from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number);
    BUt, Of course this isn't what I want to do... I want to duplicate a record and change about 3 or 4 fields .
    How do I use a combination of more than one select and hard coded values to insert a new record into the table.
    /** Ignore below this is fine... I just put a snippet of a function in here ** The above insert statement is what I need help with
    select (mipr_id) into new_mipr_id from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number + amendment_number=(select max(amendment_number) + 1);

  • Find the latest updated or the latest inserted record  in a table

    Hi All,
    Thanks in advance
    Just a simple question
    How do we find the latest updated or the latest inserted record in a table ?
    Provide some queries in SQL?

    You can order by rowid desc to get lately inserted records, but I'm not sure about updated records.That is incorrect, Oracle might use old rowid's even in inserts and you cannot assure that the max(rowid) refers to the latest record.
    If the table is created with rowdependencies one can use ORA_ROWSCN pseudo column to check on date/time when the last dml has been performed over that table. But, that has some limitations too, Old snapshots will be erased hence one can check the last dml with a time frame of few days.

  • Best way to insert millions of records into the table

    Hi,
    Performance point of view, I am looking for the suggestion to choose best way to insert millions of records into the table.
    Also guide me How to implement in easier way to make better performance.
    Thanks,
    Orahar.

    Orahar wrote:
    Its Distributed data. No. of clients and N no. of Transaction data fetching from the database based on the different conditions and insert into another transaction table which is like batch process.Sounds contradictory.
    If the source data is already in the database, it is centralised.
    In that case you ideally do not want the overhead of shipping that data to a client, the client processing it, and the client shipping the results back to the database to be stored (inserted).
    It is must faster and more scalable for the client to instruct the database (via a stored proc or package) what to do, and that code (running on the database) to process the data.
    For a stored proc, the same principle applies. It is faster for it to instruct the SQL engine what to do (via an INSERT..SELECT statement), then pulling the data from the SQL engine using a cursor fetch loop, and then pushing that data again to the SQL engine using an insert statement.
    An INSERT..SELECT can also be done as a direct path insert. This introduces some limitations, but is faster than a normal insert.
    If the data processing is too complex for an INSERT..SELECT, then pulling the data into PL/SQL, processing it there, and pushing it back into the database is the next best option. This should be done using bulk processing though in order to optimise the data transfer process between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.
    Other performance considerations are the constraints on the insert table, the triggers, the indexes and so on. Make sure that data integrity is guaranteed (e.g. via PKs and FKs), and optimal (e.g. FKs should be indexes on the referenced table). Using triggers - well, that may not be the best approach (like for exampling using a trigger to assign a sequence value when it can be faster done in the insert SQL itself). Personally, I avoid using triggers - I rather have that code residing in a PL/SQL API for manipulating data in that table.
    The type of table also plays a role. Make sure that the decision about the table structure, hashed, indexed, partitioned, etc, is the optimal one for the data structure that is to reside in that table.

  • Inserting records into a table with all caps

    Hello
    I have a procedure that inserts records into a table. How do I ensure that the text values inserted are recorded all capital letters into the table?
    Thanks.

    You can use UPPER(..) function in your insert statement, so that values are converted to UPPER, before insert.
    If you want to check at table level, you can achieve that by writting a before insert trigger and in that trigger check
    IF UPPER(:new.<col>) != :new.<col> THEN
    RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20101,'Error: Not all values are in upper case')
    END IF;

    If you are absolutely sure that you do not have such a row already in your table, open a case with customer support and reference CR321312. I believe the work-around is to put ld-server-core.jar in your client classpath.
    Correction: put ld-server-app.jar in the client classpath

    friends
    i am having a record in the table , and always i want the latest value in the table.
    the record is with 4 fields.
    mandt primary key
    numb  primary key
    username
    date
    now in the program i read the numb from the ztable and after reading that
    i want to update the field with +1 ie override the old record.
    I tried with update and modify statement  but they are inserting the new record,
    i tried the where clause but that is not working.
    when i am using modify statement i am using numb+1 , so it is inserting the new record.
      How to handle this situation , please advice

    Hi,
      As Number is primary key, After reading and adding Number then you need to delete the existing latest record and Insert the new record.
    For EX
    NUM  USERNAME
    0001  NAREN
    0002 SATISH
    0003 RAVI
    Then last number is 0003 , add 1 then num is 0004.Then delete 0003 RAVI
    and add 0004 RAVI
    then DATA becomes
    NUM  USERNAME
    0001  NAREN
    0002 SATISH
    0004 RAVI
    Hope this will help  you.

  • Inserting records from internal table to database table

    Hi all,
    i want to insert records from internal table to zDatabase table, can u plz guide me which statement is better in performance to insert the records.
    1) insert one by one record from internal table
    loop at itab.
    insert ztable from wa.
    endloop.
    2) insert total records at a time
    INSERT <dbtabname> CLIENT SPECIFIED FROM TABLE itab.
    or let me know if any other statement is there with high performance.
    i internal table contains nearly 40000 records.
    thanks.

    Hi,
    Insert the entire table at atime rather than a record so as to increase the performance.
    you can use INSERT <dbtabname> CLIENT SPECIFIED FROM TABLE itab.
    or
    MODIFY ZPRODUCT FROM TABLE GI_AFPO.

  • Using Crystal 2008 to insert records into a table

    Hi,
    We have a unique need to use Crystal to insert records into a table. We have managed to test a report that can write into a temporary table.  This is done by using sql command object  and uses  the following code :
    INSERT INTO TEMP_TABLE  (ORDERID)
    VALUES ({?orderid})   (-- where orderid a parameter).
    This test report asks for an order id and then inserts the record perfectly fine.
    Now moving on to the real report - This report basically prints orders in batches and we want to insert order id into a temporary table to ensure we don't print orders that were already printed. To do this we created a sub report "insert orders" that has the above insert command. The main report passes the orderid to subreport and the idea is that the subreport would insert each time an order is passed. So if main report printed 50 orders ids, the then it would do 50 inserts individually into the temp table.
    This however is NOT working. The report runs fine but there is no insert.  Our hunch is that  Crystal is not committing after every order id is passed from the main report.  Not sure if we can set the AUTO COMMIT ON  as a default somewhere?
    Wondering if any one has attempted this or has any insights?
    Regards,
    Mohit.
    Environment is - Crystal 2008 and Oracle 11GR2, we are using Oracle drivers (and not odbc)

    Hmmm... I don't use Oracle but the syntax looks good...
    You've already tested it and I assume that you are using the same driver in the production report as you used in the test, so that shouldn't be an issue...
    how are you pulling the data? Is the final SELECT statement that pulls the report data in the same command as the INSERT script, or is the INSERT script in it's own command?
    The reason I ask... If you are trying to pass a multi-valued parameter to a command, it won't work. If you have the insert command as it's own command while the data is being pulled with linked tables or a separate command, it is possible that the report itself will execute as expected w/o passing a value to the insert script.
    If it's all in 1 command (as it should be), a bad parameter would fail in the final SELECT causing an error.
    Also... are rows null or empty string values being added to table when the report executes? This would be an indication that the command is being executed but isn't getting the parameter value.

  • SQL query to get last 10 records in the table?

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me the SQL query to get last 10 records in the table?
    Thanks!!
    MCP

    Please, define what "last" means. Sets are unordered by definition, so if you want to retrieve rows from a table in a specific order you need to specify what that order is - e.g. by maintaining a value in a column (or a combination of columns) that you can use in the ORDER BY clause of the SELECT statement.
    If, for instance, you kept the time when the row was inserted in a special column (InsertedTime), you could use this in your query like this:
    select top (10)
      <column list>
      from <table or view>
      where <restriction(s)>
      order by InsertedTime desc;
