Install Error ORACLE 9i on HP-UX 11.00

***HELP***
Hello,
the installation of ORACLE 9i (9.2.0.1.0) database on a HP9000 with HP-UX11.00
(this machine has all kernel parameters rebuild and all recomended patches are installed) over remote shell (remsh) doesn't succeed. The following error appears (last excerpt from logfile) and the installation freeze (no interaction more possible,
about 61%):

Please, has somebody a idea???
Greetings

Cygwin could be blamed for this, but before you do that, please check permission issues, check the stage area is readable by oracle. Also, there is an install log file, look for it and check if there is any outstanding issue recorded there.

The errors are like these. How can I correct these errors and continue to installation? Is the oracle version 10.2.0.4 not correct version to install 4.7 enterprise on Red Hat Linux 5.3?
Best regards,

Hi Markus,
I found 5 ERROR. There are different lines.
First one:
<fld name="STATUS">
<strval>ERROR
Second one:
CASE (= 'AUTOALLOCATE') RETURN (' AUTOALLOCATE '),
CASE (DEFAULT) RETURN (' ERROR ' + (tTablespaces.extMgmtAllocMode
Third one:
CASE (= 'DICTIONARY') RETURN (' DICTIONARY '),
CASE (DEFAULT) RETURN (' ERROR ' + (tTablespaces.extMgmtMode
Fourth one:
CASE (= 'AUTOALLOCATE') RETURN (' AUTOALLOCATE '),
CASE (DEFAULT) RETURN (' ERROR ' + (tTablespaces.extMgmtAllocMode
Fifth one:
CASE (= 'DICTIONARY') RETURN (' DICTIONARY '),
CASE (DEFAULT) RETURN (' ERROR ' + (tTablespaces.extMgmtMode
Which one will I change to OK? Must all off them change to OK?
Also is this problem about only these oracle error in your oppinion? For example in first line of ora_sql_results.log I have an error like below:
CJS-00084 SQL statement or script failed
Connected to an idle instance.
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
But ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variable are ok. Also I can connect and start and stop database manually. There is no problem about it.
I installed anly Oracle patch 10.2.0.4. I didn't install any oracle interim patch. Should I have install oracle interim patch for Oracle 10.2.0.4?
Best regards,

Hi,
Yes, Solution describe in 350251 - Creating a New or 2nd Oracle SID with runInstaller
"THE SOLUTION"
The good news is the solution is very simple and takes a few seconds
First cd /var/opt/oracle
You will find a file called oraInst.loc # cat oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/oracle/PR1/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
Use vi or emacs to edit the file and change the inventory_loc to the directory of the oracle instance you are currently installing. ie inventory_loc=/oracle/PR2/oraInventory
Restart your oracle installer eg. su - orapr2
cd /oracle/stage/816_64
setenv DISPLAY localhost:0.0
./runInstaller

• Oracle 9i install Errors on SuSE Linux 9

I am getting a makefile error on ins_rdbms.mk during the initial install of Oracle 9i.
I've done a grep on make while it is running, and see the command is as follows:
usr/bin/make -f /usr/local/Oracle/oracleSTM/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk ioracle ORACLE_HOME=/usr/local/Oracle/oracleSTM
When I run it manually, I get the following errors:

Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Hello Widya,
I am glad that you found our documents helpful.
Did you face any problems while following the document? Was it clear enough? Did the installation go as documented?
If no, then I would like to hear about them. We can update the document to make it more useful to OTN Users.
It would be very helpful is you can mention the problems; if any.
Thanks,
Rajat

• Oracle VM Server - install error - Graphical mode

Hi all!
I hope, you can help me the following problem.
I try to install an Oracle VM server to a FS server.
First, I tried the newest version - OVM S 2.2.1
In the begining Everything is allright.
But after I have to choose the keyboard, the next screen did not come up. Just a blue screen.
I went to the alt+F3 terminal, and I found a warning there:
WARNING Graphical mode is not avaible...Start text mode.
So the screen where I can partition the disk, did not come up..
I tried earlier version too - OVM server 2.1.5, but It is the same problem too.
Can somebody help me in this, what couse this problem, and how can I fix this, and install the O VM server?
Thx in advance!
Peter Kokai

I purchased an Asus Sabertooth motherboard with an I7 4770 cpu and the Oracle VM server fails to detect the motherboard. I am seeing the same error that is posted in the Known Issues list with the Dell 380 Broadcom ethernet adapter.
Do I have a compatibility issue? The disk ISO was being given out at EMC World. I do not know how to tell what version it is.
I tried downloading the 3.2.2 version iso and it seems to have trouble with my USB devices, because my keyboard stops working and I can't select between media cd test or skip.
Are there any workarounds? Should I just wait for a future release?

Realizing I made a mistake - I tried to uninstall Enterprise Manager - but got a LOT of errors. So I cleaned out the registry - uninstalled Oracle 8i, and tried to re-install 8i.
I then received the following error while re-installing 8i: ERROR: The type of data stored in the registry is different from the type returned by this query.
I can no longer perform a "clean" uninstall - and re-install as the release notes suggest, the database instance will NOT start up.
Please help?? Thanks, --Dan

• Oracle 9i install error in writing to temp file

Could someone please help?
I'm trying to install the Oracle 9i client (v.9.2) on windows xp, but getting this error:
"Error in writing to directory C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2005-09-15-xxxxxxx". Please ensure that this directory is writable and has atleast 32 MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue.
I deleted the install on the temp folder, there is more than enough space to write (over 20gb free hd space). I'm lost on how to fix it, and have wasted far too much time trying to get it to work. Please help!!!

You could set TEMP and TMP temporarily in a DOS box :
set TEMP=<temp_directory>
sert TMP=<temp_directory>
Then start setup.exe out of this DOS box.
Unfortunately there are reported many possible reasons for this error, including bugs.
Maybe this metalink note could help:

• Error while re-installing the Oracle 10g on Linux

Hello Experts,
I am a beginner in this area: I was in the process of installing Oracle 10g Release 2 on Linux 4. However, during the installation was incomplete because there was a disconnection in the network during the step wherein I was supposed to run the shell scripts from the root directory. When I tried to install the product once again, I got an error message that I need to "create a new oracle home". I also checked if there were any oracle products installed, but there were none. Now, how do I re-install the oracle 10g? Please help.
Thanks!

Hi Jean-Valentin,
I tried doing that, (ref: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16227/oui3_manage_oracle_homes.htm#i1006275),
but it didnot work.
So, what I did was:
I created a new oracle home:
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_2
instead of the older one: ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
and I was able to install the oracle software successfully.
Please let me know if there is anyway that I can clean up
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1, in the sense, completely remove it.
Please let me know if there is a particular way to remove ORACLE_HOME and oraInventory directories.
Thanks a lot.

• Oracle enterprise Linux and 10gR2 instalation error

I have installed Oracle Unbreakable Linux (from 4 CD's).
When tried to install Oracle 10gR2 I got error that displays when it's 83 % already installing:
Error in invoking target 'client_sharedlib' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
I have installed developement pack (aditional rpm packages installed), but I don't know what's happening.
I read on other forum (Error installing Oracle Client on Red Hat 4.0 that I might miss some package.
My system is fully 32 bit, so I think I do not need any 64 bit package, like suggested in that thread!?
Second question:
I thought that "Unbreakable Linux from Oracle" has all additional packages prepared for Oracle installation ...at least for current release 10gR2?
Is that true?
Third one:
If I use croatian keyboard, I cannot type "_" (underscore sign. How to have that (for me very important key)?
Thanks...

• The Oracle Install error

Dear,
I have four questions as follows:
1.I download the "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" from www.oracle.com.I uncompress the files to harddisk with WinRAR 3.8.But when I run the "setup" to install the Oracle, the install report "oui.exe-Application Error:The instruction at '0x38305f34' referenced memory at '0x38305f34'.The memory could not be 'read'"!
My operation system is Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack4.My IE version is 6.0SP1.My memory is 512MB DDR.
How to solve the problem?
2.By the way, where can I download the "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4" and "JAWS screen reader 5.0"?
3.What is the difference betweet the "Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2" "Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2" "Oracle Clusterware Release 2" ?What are the three products used for?
4.Which version Oracle Database for RedHat Linux 9 or earlier version Redhat such as 9 8.0 6.2?(NOTICE:Not for REDHAT Enterprise Service)
Thanks!

How to solve the problem?Have you read the fine Installation Guide and the Release Notes that came with the software? Have you met all the installation prerequisites?

2.By the way, where can I download the "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4" and "JAWS screen reader 5.0"?The release notes indicate that "Sun Java Access Bridge 1.0.4 [is] (included with the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) media)"
For the Jaws screen reader - I never heard of it so simply googled "Jaws Screen Reader". The vendor (which is not oracle) was the very first hit.

3.What is the difference betweet the "Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2" "Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2" "Oracle Clusterware Release 2" ?What are the three products used for? Oracle Database 10g Companion CD contains some sample schemas and some add-on products. Details are available in the Companion CD Installation Guide.
Oracle Database 10g Client contains just the client software, which is also included on the full database installation, but would be used on machines (like desktops and app servers) that need to access a database that lives on some other machine.
Oracle Clusterware is about what it sounds like. The software for installing Oracle Clusterware. More info at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/admcon.htm#RACAD1111
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
BOOKMARK THIS LOCATION
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are reference manuals. Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
- Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
- Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
- Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
- When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

• CRS install fails Oracle home incompatibility checks ( 10G )

Hi,
I'm trying to install RAC for 10.2.0 . The first step is to install cluster Ready Services ( On red hat linux ) . When it does the product specific prequisite checks, it fails on "Checking for Oracle home incompatibilities".
I get the error " Oracle clusterware cannot be installed into an existing oracle home".
I did a previous attempt at an install which failed. I have completely deleted the
/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs directory which was previously created.
If I check the environment variables, I get :
[oracle@rac1 db_1]$ env | grep -i home
HOME=/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
So, in my thinking there is no trace now of a previous home for CRS.
So why am I getting the error ??
Thanks
George

It seems taht you have not cleared the inventory..As menioned earlier use OUI to remove the oracle_home from inventory. In case you do not wish to use the existing ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 or any other Oracle Installation on this server, then you can go ahead and remove the inventory itself.
You can use Note:239998.1 for the various files to be removed for cleaning up CRS..

Hello Again ,
Wish Oracle was a bit more informative. Am using a SAS Institute Product called Enterprise Guide. A "hot fix" was installed to address an issue that the product appears unable to save the latest version of edited code changes (hence " BETWEEN between" remaining even after a prior edit). In any case, with the change, am now receiving this error:
" ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00904: "PHRMCY_CLM_FACT"."LAST_SRVC_DT": invalid identifier". (Log file appears below)
-The error remains, regardless of whether one uses "pass through" code to pass the date range to Oracle (which looks ok from the log output below I believe), or if I hard code the date range into the PL SQL query itself.
-The Prepare error always appears at end of the inner SELECT.
-The Prepare error remains, with or without the GROUP BY clause.
Is there anything else here I am missing? Someone suggested a reserve word - but from other ANSI SQL versions, I do not see that is the case. I have consulted SAS Tech Support and SAS List Serve at University of GA. but nothing definitive from these sources. Have requested facility to be able to run Oracle directly, outside this SAS Institute product - in process.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone very much.
Jeff

Hi
I have been trying to install DBD::Oracle perl module on a Centos 5.7 server which is running Oracle client version 11.2.0.3. I have installed all dependencies prior to attempting installing the same and I am running into the following error -

make: *** [blib/arch/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so] Error 1I am sure that installing a previous(older) version of oracle client will fix this issue i.e. either 11.2.0.1 or older (that is tested) but I want to know if it is possible to resolve the above issue with a work around and not having to install a previous version.
Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
If anyone can help here, would really appreciate it or else, I will have no choice but to install previous version of oracle client.
Thanks
