Install on intel

okay, i have the multi-part files. i've read the other suggestions from this forum for concatenating the files into a .iso and burning the cd's (actually taken from a sparc install, but i get the idea). but i cannot boot from my cd. where do i find the floppy disk boot image? is this some sort of cruel joke on windows users to make this so difficult by not providing a single help file for how to install this thing?

i'm not certain what you're implying. maybe i should know how to do all of this. i assure you that i am pretty computer literate and have had significant previous experience with solaris and other unix os's. seriously, how would i have known this? have i missed some link or not read some area that i should have? i read the complete install doc. no mention of the install diskette or where to find it (that i can readily remember). with the full binary images, it was probably pretty straight-forward to image them. with the broken up files, especially when delivered in zip format, not so obvious that they should be cat'ed together into a single output file. there was some searching to determine that, but i did ultimately find it. for the install diskette, no mention what-so-ever.
just to be clear, i'm here because i saw mcnealy at gartner a few weeks back. he seriously impressed me and i want to support sun to the highest degree possible. he stated that no one should be paying significant dollars for software (a la microsoft). i very much agree.
so given that windows migration is a desired outcome, shouldn't sun make it a little more straight-forward? again, am i missing something or is this an error of omission?

Guys, I been in the business working on PC and MAC for years. So I am not green at this, I was looking for some kind of option to get past the boot loader..  Which is failing.
I know how to boot into these modes.. Done tons of research before posting and couldn't find anything.
It will not go into  Internet Recovery, or any thing else.  I hear the sound .. then that is it.. I get nothing else..
I have tried clearing the NVRAM which is Option + Command + P + R
    Still nothing..
So I thought I would try here to see if maybe there was some trick out there someone might know of that would work.
What else guys?  I am hitting th keys right..

  • Installing new intel chip

I bought my iBook in May of 2005, it's a PowerPC but I want to know if I am eligable for an upgrade? Does anyone know this or know where I can find out. I have looked forever on the apple.ca website, it is not to be found. Thanks for your help in advance!

I have a power pc g4 that just had a hard drive and logic board replaced. Would Apple have replaced it with Intel chips instead of the one they used prior to the change?
No. If they would have they would have had to install the Intel version of the Mac OS and you would quickly discover that most of you applications didn't function or functioned slowly (through Rosetta).

  • Epson Stylus Photo R1800: successful Firewire install on Intel iMac?

Has anyone been able to succesfully install the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 on an Intel iMac using the Firewire connection?
After installing the Intel drivers from the Epson website, if I connect the printer via the USB cable the printer and associated driver show up in the Printer Setup Utility just fine. But if I connect the printer via the Firewire cable I just see a printer named "E" in the printer setup utility and no R1800 driver at all.
Epson support just keeps instructing me to uninstall and reinstall the driver.
I've hunted around in the discussions here and have noticed some people having trouble with this particular printer, but I've been unable to establish whether anyone has been succesful with the Intel iMac/Firewire combination.
iMac 20" Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I am printing with a firewire connection. I have an intel iMac. Prior to buying the R1800, I checked out Epson's site for new intel printer drivers. A new update has been posted with an alert about the bundled software that comes with the R1800-don't install it! And if it was installed there's an uninstall walk through. The software did not come anywhere near my new imac. I downloaded the new software and I am printing with a firewire connection. I have one issue with the download. I can't print CDs because the application is on the original software cd. I contacted Epson and asked if I could install just the CD print software and not the printer driver. I will be waiting for an answer. I installed the software on a powerPC imac tiger. The printer is firewire connected and there are no printing problems, I can even print CD labels.
    I will post epson's response.

  • Installing an intel processor on a power mac G5 (2004) with mac os Xpanther

    Hi everyone,
I really need some help, I need to update my Power Mac G5 because I discover that almost every single new upgrade for Final Cut Pro is for Intel Macs, so i would like to know if it is possible to install this processor to my oldie computer or can I upgrade my panther system to a leopard and being able to run the new programs??'. Thanks a lot
    Eugenia

You can't install an Intel processor in your G5. For Intel you need to buy a new/newer Mac.
Here's the *Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements*
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950 To upgrade, you can skip Tiger 10.4.
Recommend you increase RAM more than the minimum.

  • New Imac can I install a intel q6600 quad G0 stepping ?

I want to buy a New Imac 24" and planning to install a intel q6600 Go stepping 95W us$290.00 or have it installed. http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLACR
Does anyone know if the power supply can handle the extra 30w the new cpu is going to use or not ?
    E6850
    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA9U
Unfortunately I need the cpu for Linux gentoo compiles and the e6850 just does not cut it for me for this specific task. Already have a E6850 in my old desktop box and insanely fast but not 4 cores as I need.
Same max temp rated same volts +0.2V and 30w more.
I would have liked to have a nicer than current video card 8600gt in there but I presume we are stuck with the ati2600pro instead of nvidia.
You may ask why not just buy a desktop ? well size + weight + travel wise this seems to fit like a glove and the video card is good enough for extra task's / compromise except I would not be able to have raid hd's darn.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Even if the processor in the new iMac is socketed, not soldered, I don't believe you will be able to use the processor you mention. From what I can find, the processor in the new iMacs is the T7700, which according to Intel's web site uses a different package type and hence a different socket than the Q6600. So unless my information is wrong, the power supply will be irrelevant.
What is it you would be using the iMac for that you'd void the warranty on a brand-new machine?

  • I have the following Apple Computer: Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB per processor. Can I put install new Intel Xeon processors in place of the current ones to bring my Mac up to the MacPro standards and so I can install the new Mac software?

I have the following Apple Computer: Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB per processor. Can I put install new Intel Xeon processors in place of the current ones to bring my Mac up to the MacPro standards and, if so, can I then install the new Mac software (Lion)?

As has been clearly stated, no, no, and no.
If such an upgrade were possible, it probably would be more money than it would be worth.
If you're running a G4 (dual-processor even) you can pick up a used Mac mini (intel that is, and something from 2010 or newer would be the best bet) that will be screaming fast compared to a G4.
Once upon a time, processor upgrades were not only possible, but a good deal, and a relatively inexpensive way to get more life out of your Mac. I upgraded a G3 tower to a G4 for  few hundred dollars, and I was glad I went that route at the time. Finally,  CPU upgrades, at least as far as I know, aren't available anymore.

  • Installing the Intel ME Driver

When I load the MSI Control Center it displays a pop-up telling me to install the Intel ME driver for overclocking.
    3 QUESTIONS:
         1. Where is the Intel ME driver?
         2. If I get it as a download from Intel, how do I know which ME to download?
3  If the ME driver is on the MSI Drivers and Utilities Disk, then which file is it and how do I install it?
I know this is basic, but I'm just a simple man.
    P.S.
OCZ has been having problems with their firmware software for the Agility 3.   I got rid of mucho problems by removing the OCZ Agility 3 SSD and replacing it with a Crucial RealSSD 300.
Not as fast, but it does not give me BSODs either.

if you talk about the Intel Management Engine , they are on your driver DVD or on the MSI web site

  • Powerpc error when installing on intel mac, powerpc error when installing on intel mac

Trying to reinstall some software that used to work & no I receive the following error: “Spyder3Pro_Installer” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.  This happened on another application I was attempting to install as well.

Thank you for the reply, but I was able to fix it.  I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain it well.  The apps were not for a powerpc & the mac is an intel.  For some reason the apps thought it was a ppc, so I'm not sure what happened.  I had Mountain Lion installed & the apps were working fine until the crash.  Just trying to put everything back & I get this error.  There is another app that I get the same error on, but not sure if the fix will be that easy.

  • CS2 GoLive Install on intel/leopard

Just upgraded to a macpro and I tried to install GoLive from the CS2 disks but....
All I can choose from the flip menu is Selected Components. And GoLive is grayed out.
I can only choose photoshop and Version Cue. I can't even choose
Entire Suite from the flip menu.
I tried coping the app from my old drive but I get the error about something missing from the Library.
I know some people are running GoLive on intel/leopard. Just wondering how.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you Tom,
I'll have to call Adobe again and try to de-initialize/authorize my computer again. Wow I'm pretty pissed off with Adobe right now. It seems that WE (The Customers) ARE THE ACTUAL TECH. SUPPORT TEAM for most of the problems associates with these apps.
This is so unbelievable! I'm spending most of my time fixing Apps rather then doing actual work.
I did the same thing and still getting the library error. I've called Adobe and of coarse they say that they don't support CS2 anymore. Can you believe this bull. I have spent thousands of dollars on Adobe products and updates. We all know that CS2 works quite well with OS X 10.5.6 Leopard, because I was using it for many months with no issues than the norm.
Now I can't install CS2 because I upgraded to CS54 from CS3 and before that CS2, and before that... well you know how it goes...
I understand that Adobe is trying to stop Piracy, but do we all have to pay the price for a few bad apples.
Anyway thanks again for you help Tom, I really appreciate your time. Just vending right now.

  • Bootcamp 2.0 freezes on install with intel chipset problem solved.

After Days of pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my Windows XP SP2 32 bit would never complete its bootcamp install on Windows. I found the solution to my issue. It may help you. So I decided to post this because I looked everywhere and could not find any solutions that worked. It would freeze on the step where intel chipset would install. You get the blue screen and if you tried to start windows you would get a missing file report and would have to repair. system32\drivers\pci.sys Well nothing worked but one thing. I have a HD protool system that uses 3 PCI-e cards in my Mac Pro. You have to remove any extraneaous cards in your Mac Pro (PCI-e) first then you may install bootcamp 2.0 without any issues.
Hope this helps someone. Because I wish I would have had this info before struggling for 72 hours trying to figure out my issues.
Also, don't have any extra usb , firewall connections during install. And if you have 2 drives. Either disable one. Or put another Windows Xp disc on the 2nd drive. Then the Windows install will work fine. And for me. I had to format NTSF. FAT32 wouldn't work. Not the "QUICK" normal NTSF.
    Cheers.

Okay, I've half-solved the issue - I turned off the radeon card, and my idle temperature dropped by about 10 degrees. I'm idling at about 18 W now, so I get about an extra hour of battery life (~3 hours). That said, since I could get about 5 in Windows on this computer, I think there's still some room for improvement, especially since the fan is still a bit noisy. (I can't measure it exactly, but to my ear, it sounds like it's running too high given my low temperature of ~45 degrees).
I'm assuming the fan is the number one power draw at this point, so is there any other way that I can get it down without pwm?

  • [SOLVED] Problems installing on Intel Matrix Raid / FAKE RAID

Using Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Option ROM - 11.0.0.1339
    I've created a:
RAID0(Stripe) Strip 32KB Size 214.3GB Status Normal Bootable Yes
Volume which I want to install Arch on.
I've gone through this all the way to a successful install using Fedora (if that is of any help whatsoever)?
So, with Arch, I have read and tried:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … e_RAID_set
As soon as I do a UEFI or BIOS install of Arch and run lsblk I get:
    sda-
    md126
    sdb-
    md126
(and using gdisk can create ef00 200M partition and root such as: md126p1 md126p2)
    Once I follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … e_RAID_set, and, do:
    # modprobe dm_mod
    # dmraid -ay
    [  39.383447] device-mapper: table: 254:1 striped: Couldn't parse stripe destination
RAID set "isw_dejgjdecda_SSD" was not activated
ERROR: device "isw_dejgjdecda_SSD" could not be found
I am hoping I may end my story here and someone will reply something along the lines of "well, that's because....", and I can continue on my determined attempt to install Arch on this RAID Volume.
However, obviously, I have not just given up at this point, so, some more info just in case it helps:
I can access /dev/md126 in gdisk and use gdisk fully
    I can mount/pacstrap/genfstab/chroot/
Then - problems arise - I cannot seem to get the install to boot after having tried either UEFI or BIOS boot using Syslinux, Gummiboot & Grub - always used GPT for the Array by the way.
Any ideas?  Is there a module to load?  I'm still a newbie guys, so, apologies for any glaring mistakes....
Thank you all very much for any help with this.

  • Solaris 10 install on Intel Centrino laptop

    Greetings all:
Can someone tell me if it's possible to install Solaris 10 to a Intel Pentium M 730 processor with i915PM/GM/GMS chipset? I tried to install Linux FC4, but the network/wireless and USB won't work, so I'm thinking in installing Solaris 10 to my laptop. Is there any doc about installing to laptop (any FAQ or how-to?). I'm new to this so please bear with me.
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions.

Sorry, assumed you needed an even amount of equal dimm's, but this is not the case.
C-14 Sun Blade 100 Service Manual October 2000:
The system has four DIMM slots on the motherboard. Because the memory data bus width is equal to the
DIMMs (64-bit data, plus 8-bit ECC) they can be installed one at a time and with mixed sizes.

  • CS4 Master suite; can I install non intel applications on PPC G5?

Hi, I would like to install the CS4 Master suite on both my Intel G5, but also, if possible, Photoshop and Indesign onto my old PPC G5 too. I know the Master suite is specified as Intel only, but does anyone know if it is still possible to install the UB applications it contains?
    Thanks in advance!

    Andy,
    >To my horror, I read on the box it only works on Intel machines. Would have been helpful if Adobe had made it clear on main page of web site.
If you spend that kind of money for anything, you simply do your due diligence
    before purchasing. And Adobe
does have a clear link to system requirements for each app on its pages.
For the Master Collection, on the main page: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/mastercollection the link is near the top of the white panel on the right. That link takes you to: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/mastercollection/systemreqs where the very first bullet-point is "Multicore Intel® processor"
And the specs do not say, "Also runs on PowerPC G5 computers" because some of the included apps don't. The minimum system requirements to run
all included apps includes the multicore Intel Mac.
