Install on multiple macs?

Can I install Lion on 3 iMacs in my Office? Students can also use the iMacs (under my supervision) & I'm the only login user..
I don't want to break any Licencing agrements as I work in a College.

AFAIK, the license allows for up to six Macs. There's no stipulation as to number of users.

  • How do I download Yosemite once and install on multiple Macs?

I have a slow Internet connection and it will take many hours to download Yosemite. I would like to download the install file(s) once, copy it(them) to the other Macs in my network, and then do the installs. How can this be accomplished?

Here is a write up on doing that with the last OS X version, I'm sure it works the same...
Copying the Mavericks installer onto other Macs: Alternatively, once you’ve downloaded the Mavericks installer to one computer, you can copy it—over your local network or by using a flash drive, external hard drive, or other media—to your other Macs. This is obviously a much faster approach than re-downloading the 5.3GB installer to each computer. You won’t even be prompted to authorize the installer on each Mac, as you are with other Mac App Store-distributed software—the Mavericks installer does not use digital-rights management (DRM).

  • Cannot install to multiple macs

I Purchased an app (Times Tables Shield) and installed it on my first mac.  When I tried to install it to my second mac the button said installed when the app was not installed.  I tried to close and reopen the app store, but it didn't do anything.

Make sure that you have updated all of your Macs to Mac OS X 10.6.7.
If you have MAS issues try restarting your Mac.

  • Can I download Final Cut Pro X at once and install on multiple Macs?

I bought 20 FCPX licenses for 20 Macs. They gave 20 different redeem codes. What I understand is that I have to redeem and download each FCPX on each Macs from App Store.
Download takes about 3 - 5 hours because my internet is very very very slow. To install on all 20 Macs, I need about 3 days.
Is there any way to download FCPX once on one computer and copy it on to USB stick or burn on DVD? And take it to each computer and install?
    Any suggestion?
    Please help. Thanks alot!

As far as I know, you can't do it machine by machine except by downloading. But seems to me that what you should do is set up a single HD with the OS and all apps you want to install, then simply clone the drive to the other computer's startup disk.  It's how it's handled in this situation most everywhere...

  • Software install to multiple macs with different account names.

I will be installing the CS2 creative suite using ARD3. Each home account or profile on each mac is a different name. Installing the apps are fine, but i have preference files that need to be placed in each users preference folder. Does anyone know a easy way to do this with out loging into each account, or specifiying the different path each time when placing the files?

there is a Macenterprise.org webcast that discusses this. it's not easy if you're not familiar with Automator or Applescript, and i've never done it, but basically you use a combination of Automator and ARD.
i don't know if the actual webcast archive has been put up yet but the slide presentation has been and maybe some of the scripts.

By purchasing Logic Pro x, How many different macs can you load it up to?
I have 2 Mac book pros and one IMac .  Does purchasing the Logic Pro x once load it into all of my macs?

If you purchase Logic Pro X, you can install it in all your Macs as many times as you want for free.
After purchasing it, it will appear in Purchases, so in your other Macs you just have to open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and download Logic Pro X

Upgrading to OS X 10.7 FAQ
Backup your user files and folders manually (drag and drop) from all partitions/OS's installed to a external powered drive and disconnect this drive, before proceeding in addition to TimeMachine, Bootable Clones etc.
You need to make sure you're running the latest version of Snow Leopard10.6.8
Click the "Apple" symbol in the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac."
Make sure you're running version 10.6.8.
If not, click "Software Update" from the same Apple menu and update your system.
Then when that's finished launch the MacAppStore from the same menu.
You'll see the giant Lion banner across the top. Click on it.
This brings you to the app page for Lion. It costs $29.99 -- click the price, then click "Buy App."
    Free Lion? check here

We users can't speak for Apple about your free Lion status or problems downloading, reissuing a download.
It's possible Apple could be spacing out the downloads as not to knock theservers offline. So be patient.
If after a week or so when the initial rush is over, and you still haven't gotten your Lion, I suggest you contact Apple.
    Mission critical
If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware or software you must rely upon working correctly. It's advised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third party software and other issues are resolved before upgrading. This might take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at a time andcarefully test everything before full deployment.

  • Where to install Thunderbird on Mac OSX for multiple users.

    Hello,
I would like to install the email program Mozilla Thunderbird on my Mac OSX (10.4.6) computer which is set up with several different user accounts. I am not sure where to install it so that everyone may be able to use it. I would like to install it once so that everyone may use it rather than installing it multiple times (once for each user).
As you might already know, in Mac OSX when you install a program in the main applications folder, it is available for everyone who uses the computer (available to all accounts). However, the trouble is, that although the actual Thunderbird program is available to all users the profile is not. The profile obviously is an important component of the Thunderbird mail program as it contains all the actual mail messages. When Thunderbird is installed, by default the profile folder is placed in the users home Library folder at:
    users home folder/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile name>/
This location make it impossible for other users to access the profile and therefore Thunderbird will not work for the other users.
    What should I do?
I have a couple solutions, however I would like to ask for some advice on what others do in this situation which I am sure is fairly common.
    Here are my solutions:
    1. Move the profile folder to a custom location that is accessible by all users in OSX such as the global Library folder (rather than the user's Library folder). Path of global Library folder:
    /library/
Then let Thunderbird know it was moved to this custom location using Thunderbird's profile manager.
    2. Try to figure out a way in mac OSX that allows the profile folder at this default location:
    users home folder/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile name>/
to be accessible by all users.
Ownership and permissions need to be changed for the profile folder maybe?
    3. Install thunderbird multiple times - once for each user - each with their own profile. The problem with this is then there will be multiple installations of the same program and they will not be able to share the same profile folder - which is what I would like to do - if possible.
I have a feeling that solution 1 is the more logical solution.
PS I am using Mac OS 10.4.6 (Tiger) with Thunderbird 1.5.0.4
    Thanks for any advice.

Yup, its me again Always seem to have a question for the group
Thanks Mulder and Scott! I am sure glad I asked for your advice. I am completely new to the multi-user environment of OSX - as you can tell. (I guess I am still in OS9 thinking mode where there was only one user.)
    Scott wrote:
"Mail can be configured to download any new email, but not remove it from the server until it is removed from the Mail application. This way, the email can be downloaded to multiple clients across multiple accounts."
Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out Scott. Good to know. This would seem to me to be similar to IMAP in some ways. This would be a good way to work in a multi-user environment. This is good info to be aware of.
It sounds like an interesting way to work.
Thanks to both of you for steering me aware from the difficulty of attempting to place the profile folder outside the home directory. This sounds like it would have been more work than necessary.
Why am I not using Apple's Mail program? Good question. I thought I would try out Thunderbird for a while - and maybe switch to Apple Mail later - just to see which one I prefer. I am a web developer and I have always liked the open source community and I thought it would be beneficial for me to become as familiar as possible with all the Mozilla products (Firefox and Thunderbird). As well, it keeps me somewhat on the same wavelength as my PC friends, of whom many use this program too. I don't want to be too much out of touch with my mac. I might try Mail later. Thunderbird has been great so far. It has excellent spam recognition abilities and you can train it too to detect spam.
Scott the "Family account" idea is an awesome idea. Thanks.
I have learned a lot from this post. This gives me a few logical solutions. As Mulder points out it is best to keep users' profiles separate. This makes it simpler. Excellent advice. I could still install the Thunderbird application in the global application folder and then each user account can open this Thunderbird application from their own account and configure the mail client with their own profile. All users will be using the same Thunderbird application but with their own profiles. Yes, thats it. I tried this out and it seems to work now - didn't seem to work earlier because I didn't know what I was doing
Another idea could be, if I really need to share one single profile, would be to follow Scotts advice and just set up a "Family account". Very simple solution. Nice idea.
So, those are the two top solutions.
Furthermore, I could use a mix of both strategies. For mail accounts that could be shared ([email protected]) I could create a "Family account" in OSX, as Scott detailed above, and then for mail accounts that are for each individual user ([email protected]), I could be sure they have separate profiles as detailed in Mulder's post.
Thanks for all these helpful ideas!

  • Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs

Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
The question of using system/software install CDs/DVDs on more than one machine is frequently asked.
    So, FYI:
System software installation CDs/DVDs, that come with a particular Mac model, are hardware specific to that model, and not intended to be used on other Mac models. For instance, the CDs/DVDs that are shipped with an iMac are not to be used on an iBook or eMac.
And the "Tiger" DVDs that are shipped with any new Mac, also are not to be used on other Mac models.
If such an installation were possible, or somehow accomplished successfully, that action would constitute a violation of your license agreement, which limits installation to a single computer.
The "Single User Software License Agreement" can be found here Software License Agreement.
Similarly, any "Upgrade" CDs/DVDs for a particular Mac OS will ONLY work for that Mac & system. For example, if a new Mac that shipped with Jaguar/Panther, was purchased shortly before the release of Panther/Tiger, the user may have purchased "Upgrade" CDs/DVDs, for a lesser price than the full install set. These CDs/DVDs do not contain all of the necessary components for an independent installation of Panther or Tiger.
The license agreement applies to single user retail versions of system software. The "Panther" or "Tiger" boxed set, for example.

Here are the requirements for Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/06/07/mac-os-x-10-7-lion-system-requirements/
In order to install Lion you have to have Snow Leopard and then update to 10.6.8:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Personally I suggest that you stop at Snow Leopard.  It still is the most efficient OS that Apple has devised and it still works great.  Go to the Lions only if there are feature that you really need.  There may be a price to pay in slower performance though.
    Ciao.

  • Install .kfp file onto multiple Mac's

    Hi folks,
I have a preflight profile that needs installing and Group name changed on multiple Mac's. Currently I will do this manually but I'd really like to automate this process .
I've done a bit of digging and found that once a .kfp is imported the file name is obfuscated, the format is changed to .kfg and ends up at this location
    /Users/*username*/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/Preflight Acrobat 10/Preferences/Profiles
I'm curious to know if any one else has tackled this problem? Maybe using applescript??
    Many thanks

  • How do I access Multiple Mac OS X versions on Install DVD?

There are Multiple Mac OS X versions on Install 10.4 DVD.
On my Mac OS X 10.4 Install DVD, there are versions of 10.4, 10.3, & 10.2.
How do I access the Multiple Mac OS X versions on Install DVD?
How do I install 10.3 or 10.2 from the 10.4 Install disk?
I jumped from 10.28 to 10.4, by passing 10.3. I have some older Macs that I would like to try 10.3 on, instead of 10.4.
How do I install the 10.3 from the 10.4 install DVD?
Because of RAM and Processor speed, I would like to try 10.3 to access programs and printers that won't work under 10.28, but might work under 10.3. I am afraid that going to 10.4 will over load the older Macs, and slow them down too much, Etc.

I saw all those "packages" and thought that I could somehow use them to access different versions of OS X.
Oh Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I have the Black Box, Mac OS X Tiger install DVD, and I was hoping to install multiple versions on different partitions.
Right now, I have OS 9 and OS X 10.2.8 as well as 10.4.9 installed on separate partitions.
I have been using Macs for many years, and I have gone through many "up grades" in the system software, from 4.1 to 10.4.9.
Some times there have been problems with an upgrade, so now I have multiple drives and partitions to "test" each new install, before depending on it for my Main OS.
Each time I upgrade to a new OS I "lose" several programs or access to hardware like printers or scanners, Etc.
I like to have a back-up system to go back to if I have problems with some programs or hardware, in addition to backing up my data.
For example, I have a scanner that I can only acces under OS 9, using an older version of Photoshop. The newer version of Photoshop will not access my scanner, and there are no drivers for my scanner for 10.4.

  • Can i use an app specific password on multiple macs

    Simple question.
I have so far set up 3 app specific passwords.   I have an iMac and an Macbook Air.    I also have an iPad and iPhone.   I have set up the app specific password for Fantastical, which runs on all devices, and BusyContacts.   Do I need to create app specific passwords for each instance of an app I install on multiple devices?  I would run out of the 25 limit pretty quickly.  Is there any way to vies the app specific passwords so I could copy them over to another device?

BusyMac's help page on the subject says
'You can create a single app-specific password and use it for multiple apps, such as BusyCal and BusyContacts.'
This isn't quite what you asked but I would take it as implying that you can reuse the password for other Macs. If you can't you will soon find out. You will need to write down the password and enter it each time.

  • Using external NAS drive for Time Machine and multiple Macs

I just installed an external NAS drive from OWC's sister company Newer Tech. It is 500g with ethernet and usb2.0 connections. It works very well with easy setup with Time Machine with no hassle.
However, in very fine print that I missed in the ad, it supports 20 computers but not for Mac only for PC. OWC customer service said I could return it but I'll keep it anyway since it works well but only for one computer at a time in read/write mode.
Anyone know of a way around this? Are there any drivers from other vendors that would allow this to be used with the multiple Macs on my home network?

Very doubtful, but even if there is a workaround, you do not want to take that kind of risk with your backups.
See the pink and yellow boxes in #2 of [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
