Installation from app store

I have an iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 (17Gb free)
I downloaded OSX Lion from the App Store overnight however software version shown is 10.6.8 - why isnt it showing 10.7??
I cant see a PKG to be installed
The App Store shows that it has been installed
Everything looks the same as it did yesterday
No obvious files in the Downloads folder
I know its a while since I have done anything on this scale to the OS so obviously I've done something wrong
Any ideas??
John

If you downloaded overnight, are you sure you did the install?  You should have the installer in the downloads folder and click on that and see if it installs.
If not, go to the app store and your purchases and see if you can download again and then install.
The About this Mac should show version 10.7.2 if you have installed Lion.

Is this a package error of Xcode 4.2 installer or is there a remedy?

I have experienced the same issue two times, and the third download (done after a reboot) have works properly. I have no clue about what goes wrong, but during the last download, I have caught the downloaded file in case of a repeated failure to be able to test it manually without another download. Since it works, it was useless, but if you want to do so, here is how you may proceed:
While the file is still being downloaded, run the following command in terminal to determine its name:
~$ find /private/var/folders -newerct '1 minute ago' -print
From the output, you should find a .pkg file, that is of the size of the currently downloaded part. To capture it, simple run the following command:
    ~$ ln /private/var/folders/some/temporarypath/com.apple.appstore/temporaryfolder/temp oraryfile.apk InstallXcodeLion.pkg
using the correct file name of the file found.
This will create a hard link to the file in the current folder, and the file will never be deleted (until the current folder is deleted or you deleted obviously).
The file I captured that way has exactly 1 806 581 275 bytes and the following SHA1 checksum:
    ~$ shasum -b InstallXcodeLion.pkg
    1d3048d87097f872fab15c77264e4a2ed43cfd74 */Users/me/InstallXcodeLion.pkg
Hope this helps those with a limited bandwidth to diagnose the possible source of this issue, not downloading again uselessly.

  • In my macbook pro retina 15 inch there is installed mavericks but ı want to create recovery disk and ı need to download mavericks from App Store but it doesn't download??

Hey guys ı really need your help. I bought macbook pro retina 15 inch 2 weeks ago and it came with installed mavericks of course but ı want to create a recovery disk and to do that ı need to download mavericks installer from app store but when i click to download mavericks from appstore purchased part ı get a message says " Your purchasing process couldnt complete. OS X Mavericks cant be installed to this computer." How can ı solve this problem!??

One way around tis is to borrow a Mac that can run Mavericks and then the download will work.  You can use these instructions:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167857/how_to_make_a_bootable_mountain_lion_ins tall_drive.html
Though they are for Mt. Lion, the same steps will work.
    Ciao.

  • Installation software from app store unable to be verified.

I received the following error when trying to install OS X MAVERICKS today.
"This copy of the software Install OS X Mavericks can not be verified. It may be damaged or manipulated during download."
I removed the downloaded file and downloaded it again from app store and tried to install it again but got the same error message appeared.
The version is for Swedish so the message above is a translation of the error message. I have an IMAC 11.2 using OS X 10.6.8 which is supposed to be compatible with the update.
Any suggestions on what to do is highly appreciated?
    Cheers!

Usually indicates that you're Internet connection isn't the best and the file's getting corrupted. Best is to visit an Apple repair station and see if they can provide the installer. Next, try from a different location or a friend's connection.

  • Download installation files from app store to make a bootable USB

    Hi,
I just got a new mac mini with OS X Server 10.8.2. I want to replace the original hard drive with an SSD, but I have problems downloading installation files from app store to make a bootable USB stick.
When i click the Purchases button it tells me that OS X Server is already installed, and I'm not able to download the files.
I have tried all the diffrent forms of Option key clicks but nothing works.
Anyone out there who have a solution?
Is it possible to get the installation media in some other way?
By the way. Is it possible to install the non server version on a computer thats bought with the server version pre installed.
I thought so. But I read something about firmware problems on a forum page?
    BR
    Daniel

You cannot download Mountain Lion or Mountain Lion Server from the App Store if it was pre-installed on the computer.
You can call Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. They may be willing to arrange a download for you. Or you can reinstall via Internet Recovery: OS X (Lion/Mountain Lion)- About OS X Recovery.
No, you can purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store on the computer you want to install it if it now has Snow Leopard or Lion running.

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...
P.S. Since I'll be in the Dallas-FW area in late June, I can volunteer with the confetti....

We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer.
I want to reinstall it for its running to slow and add only what I need.

Assuming your mini came with ML installed and you have already made a backup of your personal data, restart the computer while also holding down 'Command-Opt-R' and it should reinstall automagically from Apple's servers.

I deleted my iMovie from computer and from my purchases list in AppStroe. When I'm trying to download it again from App Store a pop up window comes up and says: "These apps were already assigned to your Apple ID and are available in your Purchases list". Please help me to reinstall it.

If new versions of iPhoto and the other iLife applications (iMovie and GarageBand) were purchased by the previous owner from the Mac App Store, then they will be locked to the previous owner's Apple ID and cannot be transferred to you. You will have to re-purchase them under your own Apple ID.
If this is an older MBA that came with Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Mac OS X, though, the system would have come with an installation disk that included the iLife applications, a disk which the seller should have provided to you. Those iLife applications would be older versions, of course, and may or may not work in Lion depending on how old they are.
    Regards.

  • Error (18) from App Store while updating iMovie

    Hi,
I met two errors consecutively from App Store when trying to update iMovie on a MacBook Pro (running Mountain Lion) bought this year. First, it says
"We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (18)".
    then followed with another error
"These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update".
Attached are the images (apologies for the resolution). Does anyone have idea why this happens and how to overcome it?
    Thanks,
    Stanly

If you originally installed iPhoto from an iLife DVD, or if it came preinstalled on a Mac that shipped with installation discs, then you can't update it in the App Store. Depending on what version it is, there may be an updater you can use on the Apple Support website. Otherwise you'll have to purchase iPhoto from the App Store.

can't download mountain lion from app store, shows error message: retry/cancel and starts from begining,
    I alreasy paid for it
Can I get a direct download link other than from app store

Try opening the Terminal utility in your system and running the following command to open the system's caches folder:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Then locate and remove the folder called "com.apple.appstore" and then try relaunching the App Store and downloading the installer again.

  • Dont have boot disk downloaded from app store

know there must be an answer.
on my macbook pro - i downloaded the operating system from App store - did not make boot disc (in last 10 years - never had to use - so neglected to do so!!)
    now i need it!
    what to do?

If you decide you want to make a boot disk, download the installer from the App Store and use one of there methods. Lion Diskmaker will do the work for you.
    Bootable Drive - Install
    Bootable Drive - Install (2)
Bootable Drive DVD or USB Flash Drive – Lion Diskmaker

  • How do I uninstall apps from app store

How do i uninstal apps from app store.  would like to start a game from the begining again

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
