Installing Firefox with WIN 8.1

After installing Firefox I cannot open the programme as I get the pop up saying the http address is wrong. I have installed and used Firefox on this Toshiba laptop before with no problems.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.

Flash player does not work with Ie or Firefox with win 8.1 64, If i try and play a video I get the message to install Flashplayer.
If I try and install it it says it is already installed. Your onsite  installer says it is not applicable to my machine.
I have followed all the normal steps re enabling addons and active filters etc.
all to no avail Pc is Dell 6 months old, Flashplayer has never worked on this machine. Last MS update mid Dec 2014.
Version of flashplayer is 15....03.......

Flash Player is a built-in component of Internet Explorer.  There's nothing separate to download or install.
Firefox requires a different version of Flash Player (the NPAPI plug-in), which will be served to you if you go here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer using Firefox; however, there are some unique stability issues related to Firefox on Win8.1, and you're probably better off using Google Chrome if you want a more optimal experience with Flash Player.
For problems where IE isn't being detected by sites that require Flash:
First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:

How can i fix this?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General)

• Installing Firefox with windows 7 64bit mode just does not work.

I have windows 7 64bit mode. I cannot install firefox, it crashes all the time when I open it. I know the problem is because my windows 7 is in 64bit mode. Can you (firefox support) or someone on this forum provide the simple and easy steps of getting it to work. Also can you (firefox) hurry up and release a 64bit version. I'm using google chrome and crazy browser as they seem to have no problems at all. I really want to use firefox but it just won't set up for me because I'm running win7 64bit mode. If I was running win7 32bit mode I wouldn't be having any issues. Has anyone out there got a simple step by step solution for this? It it mind boggling that with todays technology no one has a simple fix for this issue. Help!!!!!

I have been running Win 7 64 bit on an HP Pavilion lap for several months. The whole browser thing has been a nightmare. My work involves heavy duty internet research. Firefox crashes every few minutes. There is no specific event I can find that kicks this off, but running the latest Flash Players and Adobe Reader makes it a lot worse. In fact, I had to set up the adobe reader to not run within the Firefox window. I had to back off to an old version of adobe Reader and Flash Player to accomplish this. I love Firefox. I was disappointed to have to uninstall it as it was impossible to run searches with it.
So then it proved to be that IE either version 8 or 9 was even worse. I could not keep it up long enough to run a search.
So I installed Chrome which has some nice features, but it also crashes, albeit more gracefully so I do not lose my place and it makes a quick recovery but there are many online applications where Chrome just does not work.
My son also has Win7 64 bit and says he is also having the same problems.
I want my Firefox back! Please fix it.

I have Windows 7 and after I downloaded Firefox to my computer and tried to install it a message pops up asking me to log in as administrator or my user name. • Fonts in graphs don't scale using firefox with Win 8

Using Win 8.1 and Mozilla Firefox, when I go to Yahoo finance to look at a stock graph, everything scales except the graph's labels for the axes. As an example, go to Yahoo finance (Yahoo.finance.com), click on Nasdaq (or any other), then under the graph on the top right click on 5d (or 1m or whatever). The graph will display correctly but the x-y axes labels are too small to read.
So far only IE has worked well with Win 8 after having adjusted zooms and fonts. Firefox had been my browser of choice. Please help me achieve this.

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there are other software with the same issue. Kaspersky, on-line Civilization (I don't play, but I downloaded it as an offer), and, yes, Adobe reader.
My guess is that Microsoft let go of the standard monitor pixel sizes (e.g. 768X1280 or whatever...) because there are so many different high density pixel screens (mine's about 1800X3200). Programs either choose to control the pixel density or it becomes an unknown variable dependent on each computer's screen resolution setup. For example, if I decreased the resolution to the 768x1280 setting, I could actually see a full screen Civilization window. In high resolution settings, it was a small box with microscopic letters.
If you get into the details of Firefox, there is a whole set of defined settings (see earlier in thread about "layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref on the about:config"). While I like learning, sometimes knowing a thousand different settings is not the way I want to work on my computer. And none of it comes with definitions. I don't want to be a proud firefox web browser certified technician. But I appreciate firefox and am glad someone there does understand it. Actually, it would be fun.
Back to my issue with the yahoo finance and firefox, it is more confusing because most of the webpage is normal sized while some of the inner graph fonts are microscopic. Changing the screen resolution has no effect on it. Playing with the screen resolution changed the sharpness of the firefox fonts. Right now it's fuzzy and I'm uncertain it will sharpen when I restart my computer.
So, in short, I don't have a clue.

• Can I delete Internet explorer 8 after installing Firefox with IE

I've just installed Firefox & I can open Internet Explorer with it and separately. i want to get rid of IE which was installed earlier.
Can I do it without harming my IE?

Not really sure what you are asking, or why
# removal of a desktop icon for an earlier version of IE
# removal of IE itself
I would never consider removing IE from my system, even though I had removed all IE desktop icons, and from Start Menu, etc. I did put one back somewhere. That is not to say that I don;t use IE -- it's just that if I do use IE, I launch it from Firefox through the "Launchy" extension so I am looking at the same page in two browsers.
There are some people who remove IE, which can be done, because Windows updates no longer use IE. IE has been reduced to an interface to features builtin to the Windows Operating System.
You may be referring to an extension that uses the IE engine, that part is not part of Firefox it is either invoking from the system like IE or is invoking IE.
If you have a major problem with a browser what are you going to do. Basically
# fix the problem, or
# use something else

• Want to install firefox on win 7 that has no email address - assume firefox has thunderbird

Want to download foxfire to a friends win 7 computer. His system has no email but has broadband and internet service. I cannot see how firefox can configure an account - a new email account. Also in order to get a google account or get gmail, one has to have an email addr. I just did this and downloaded firefox to my mac to test things out. I cannot see how to create another email account besides the one I have with mail 4.4 and using tds.net services. All I want to do is help a friend get email on a win 7 machine - using firefox!!
Why is this so hard?

Firefox is just a web browser and has no email features. Email accounts accessed through Firefox are webmail accounts such as Gmail.
Thunderbird is a separate application, you can install it if you need to set up an email account that is not web based. If you need help with using Thunderbird, you can ask in one of these forums which specialize in Thunderbird:

• Problem with installing R12  with Win 2008 (Rapidwiz 12.1.1.9)

I could really use someones help.
I did a download recently of Oracle Financials R12 for windows (I'm using WIN 2008 server) which contained version 12.1.1.9 Rapidwiz. I was unable to get it to work as individual DVD's which is fine, I build the staging area and had better results.
The first error I encountered was the release contained JRE 1.6 but the install referenced 1.5. I took a suggestion that I saw to copy the directory and rename it which worked just fine.
The next error I encountered came during the database install. There was some problem with the database service. It sounds similar to a problem discussed about just the database not related to Oracle Financials but the "fix" to just start the database doesn't seem to apply.
Below is the Rapidwiz log. The warning first mentioned is to check to be sure that the Administrator user being used in the install belongs to the administrator user group which of course it does.
I've brought to the top of the log, the error that I think is occurring. Please help me install, I'm trying to evaluate the software but having trouble with just the install is concerning.

• Installing LabVIEW with WINE (?)

So my primary computer runs Ubuntu64 Linux (8.04).  I purchased a LabVIEW Developer Suite (8.5.1) for Windows as the programs I will build will be for Windows primarily.  I don't plan on interacting with external hardware in any of my VI's, only parsing data files and displaying graphs and other such things.
I'm trying to install this Windows version of LabVIEW under WINE (1.0-rc2) and I'm receiving this error message: "You have a different language edition of LabVIEW 8.5 already installed.  You must unistall that edition before you can install the English edition."  But here's the thing, I've not installed any version of LabVIEW ever on my system.
What is the deal here?

LabVIEW 8.x depends on so many Windows thingies like ActiveX, .Net and whatever that it will  not likely run at all or at least not very well. Also the Installer is a very complex MSI installation that is likely to push the Wine implementation of MSI beyond it's capabilities despite their great efforts in MSI support in the last one or two years.
I've tried LabVIEW 6.1 under Wine several years ago and got it working quite fine but at that time LabVIEW was a rather self contained package. Nowadays it integrates with so many things under Windows and installs many extra components to support the different editions like RT, FPGA, embedded, etc. that it is almost certainly not going to run.
I guess it would be an interesting test case for Wine and someone with
a lot of free time could help Wine quite a bit in making LabVIEW
install and run under it but since there is a Linux version of LabVIEW for a long time already I have never bothered to make newer LabVIEW versions install under Wine anymore.

• Re-Install G710 with Win 8

I Purchased a new G710 and found that Disk partitions is not like I want. Most of Disk is C and rest is D. I want to Make D larger (Document partition). I know that in this way Recovery Key will not function (I prefer not using it in a case C is Doc disk because Recovery Key will delete all Data). I know that I can Shrink C and enlarge D (by Partition Magic for ex), but I prefer to make clean installation of Win8. My problem is to achieve Install Disk of Win8. Does Recovery Disks of Lenovo contain Win8? or, where to obtain it as a customer that own Win8 License?

Hi Zamir,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that the license will not get backed up if recovery media is created, to make Windows 8 the key is pre-injected in to Motherboard, I suggest you to create “USB Recovery Drive” and perform clean installation
NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing clean install, as the data will be completely erased, below is the link for steps to create “USB Recovery Drive”

• When I try to install Firefox with the 6.0 setup, it says it's not a valid win32 application, this is on windows xp any way to fix?

It is an oldish computer running windows XP, moving to firefox since I used it on my laptop and wanted to put it on this computer. It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"
