Installing software on new PC help!

Hello this is probably a stupid question but I'm quite computer illiterate.
I have a new computer and I would like to install my i pod nano software on it. I currently have this software on my old computer that I don't want to use anymore (because it's crap). Am I allowed to install the software on another computer? Do I need to deautherise my old computer? How do I do this?

Hi lola foxxx
You can download iTunes v7 from Apple.com for free - no problem. Deauthorise your old pc by heading to "Advanced" and "deauthorise computer" is an option on the dropdown list.

  • Problem installing software on new imac

I am using a new imac and i tried to instal the software. It seemed to work with disk 1. I skipped verifying the disk though. Disk # 2 i will try to install. It will look like its finishing but then it will say problem instaling software. Please try again. I have tried it 2 times already. PLEASE HELP!!!

Let me see if I have this straight.
You are simply trying to install Mac OS 9.2 from disc 2, correct?
What happens when you insert the disc?
Does it mount on the desktop?
    Do you receive any errors?
Are you able to double click the install classic icon?
b I am using a new imac and i tried to instal the software. It seemed to work with disk 1.
So you were trying to reinstall the system software from disc 1?
Was this an upgrade of the software or a reinstall of what came with your computer?

  • Problem installing software/updates...HELP!

Everytime I try to install new software or updates to existing software I'm asked for the admin. password. I'm the only user on my iBook so my password is the admin. password. However, when I use my password I get an error message saying that I need admin. permissions to complete the install/update.
Something is wrong since I've only gotten this message in the past couple of weeks. Up to that point I never had this problem.
I've checked and re-checked my password. I've checked and repaired the keychain permissions. I've checked and repaired my disk permissions (both my hard drive and additional RAM).
I'm at my wits end with this...I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance!

Start up with the system DVD(DVD in drive, hold down the c key).
Go under disk utility, select reset password.

  • Installing software from new to old computer

If I buy a new mac with Tiger, can I use the CDs provided to instal it on my old computer (that has panther on it) or do I need to buy it separately?
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The Tiger install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific and cannot be used to install Tiger on another Mac. Even if attempted on the same Mac model, the model build must be identical to the model/build the install package was shipped with and intended for. Even if possible and as previously provided, it would be a violation of the single user license agreement and against the law to install and use a copy of the OS and included software on more than one Mac at a time.
If you want to install Tiger on your old Mac, you need to purchase a Tiger retail install package which can be used to install Tiger on a single Mac model that meets the minimum system requirements.

  • Need suggestions for what order to install software on new computer

I have had an iMac (with Panther) for 3 1/2 years but have never made any major changes to it and plan to leave it as it is. We got a second computer yesterday, one of the last of the white iMacs, via an Apple reseller. It came with Tiger 10.4.6 installed with a Leopard 10.5 drop-in disc and an iLife 08 disk. I set up the new Mac so I have a web connection, but have not yet transferred any data from my back-up external hard-drive, nor have I attempted to install Leopard or iLife 08. I'm looking for recommendations for what order I should do these tasks. Or does it matter?
That is, should I play around with Tiger for awhile (I've never used Tiger before), move all my data and confirm all is OK before adding Leopard?
Or should I get Leopard on the computer right as the next step?
Should iLife 08 be installed before or after Leopard? or is either order OK?
Any suggestions that would be helpful to me?

I concur with the others on going straight to Leopard. Then resolve any issues before installing non-Apple applications (or older Apple ones, for that matter).
However, make sure ANY applications are Leopard-compatible before you install them.
And note that the iLife '08 installer is for a 30-day trial installation (fully functional for those 30 days) after which it needs to be purchased.

  • Trying to install software on new iMac

I have just bought a new iMac, OS X 10.9.  I tried to install my Illustrator 10 software and received the following message - You can't open Illustrator 10 because powerPC applications are no longer supported.
What do I do now? Can anyone advise me please?

Illustrator 10 operates in your old OS under Rosetta, with the new iMac running the OS which will not support Rosetta you can't run Illustrator 10. If you browse to the Illustrator 10 application icon does it have a circle slash over the icon? You will need to run Illustrator 10 on a system that supports Rosetta, or upgrade your Illustrator software.

I have a mac book pro mid 2009.Its hard drive died .I replaced it with a new Seagate Momentus hard drive. I have a installation CD that came with the laptop.
I installed new drive. Started laptop with installation CD. It is asking me where to install the programe, in this  window it is not seeing my hard drive. Try powering up, pushing in the dic holding the C key, this will make the machine boot from the disc.
Then select your language, click contine to the next screen, in the menubar click on utilities/disk utility. Hight light the Seagate drivr in the left column, click the erase tab, format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Name it (Macintosh HD is the usual default name and click erase. When it finishes, quit disk utilities, eject the disk, shut down.

  • I have an old hard drive from a ruined computer attached to my new one but i cant find my old bookmarks which i want to install on the new machine. help please!

my old computer was running vista, and i had hundreds of bookmarks in many folders, but i cant find these when exploring the old drive. I presume i cant use the import facility as i wouldnt be able to access the firefox browser itself on the old drive, but i was hoping the bookmarks would be stored somewhere accessible

thanks for the suggestions weather15 - the firefox help site you directed me to explains what ought to happen but i cant make it work. I shut my firefox browser on my new machine and attach the hard drive from my old machine. I can explore the contents of that drive but when i search it for the suggested folder " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" nothing is found. when i try and open firefox from the old drive, the browser opens that is the new version that i have on my new computer with no saved bookmarks! Am I doing everything right?

  • Installing software on new hd

I am installing a new hd in an iMac and wonder if I can copy the entire contents of the old d to the new d or if I have to install the os from the cd first, then copy the applications and content.

Another issue re: reinstalling the contents of the old hd onto the new hd. Is it possible to take the new hd, put it in a housing, THEN copy the contents of the old hd onto it, THEN put it in? Would the operating system transfer? If that isn't an option for some reason, then an additional point arises, to wit-my current os is 10.3.9, I have a 10.2 installation disk. Can one install the 10.2 then upgrade to the 10.3.9 easily, i.e, without additonal expense?

  • Install software on new PC

I upgraded from Elements 6 to CA4 several years ago as an internet download. Me PC crashed and I lost all my programs. I don't like the CS4 program anyway. Is there anyway to upgrade from CS4 to the new Elements software and what would the cost be.  My new PC has windows 8 on it.  I have the S/N for the CS4 software.

Also, within the Photoshop Elements family, the "upgrades" are usually just minor price reductions from MSRP, and many find that certain certified Adobe resellers actually have a better "street price." I would check with a few certified Adobe resellers, to see if their price is actually better than an upgrade via the Adobe Store. The price benefits for upgrading, say Photoshop CS 5 to CS 6 will be much greater, but then the software costs about 7x more than PSElements.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to format  external HD and install software on it? Help, please?

When install programs on my Mac there is only one option for installation - on the internal HD, the other drive plugged in the computer appear with exclamation mark - ie they are not available for installing anything on them.
I want to be able to install some small programs , or a web browsers on external drive , just to see how they works, etc.
How to format an external HD or USB flash drive (if its size is enough)
so it is possible for install a program on it instead on the internal hard drive?
    Thanks to all!
    Ema

That's the theory. Note that you'll wipe the external drive in the process, so if there's anything you want on it, get it copied elsewhere first. It’s always wise to back up any important stuff on your MacBook of course before doing anything like this (but not to the drive you’re about to use!)
With the drive connected, open Disk Utility, highlight the external drive in the sidebar (that's the drive itself, usually listed by the manufacturer's name and the size of the drive). Select 'partition' in the tab bar, ensure the drop-down on the right is set to 'Mac OS Extended (journaled)', give the partition a name in the box above that (like 'ext HD' or whatever). Click on the 'options' button below the diagram and select 'GUID Partition Table' (very important - it won't boot SL with any other setting). then click the 'apply' button.
Once that's done, close DU and insert the 10.6 install DVD in the MacBook (or whatever the Mac is). After the licence agreement there’ll be a picture of Macintosh HD, but underneath should be a button saying ‘show all disks’. click that and select the external drive, then click install and follow the instructions.
Note that if you do this with the grey install disk that came with the computer, you will only be able to boot that computer with it, as it’s model specific. If the install DVD is a black retail one, it should theoreticaly boot any Mac (but note the licence conditions).
Once the install is complete, boot from the external HD by either selecting it under ‘startup disk’ in Sys Prefs, or by holding down the alt key during restart and selecting the drive from that screen. You can then install any progs you want and try them out from there. (don’t forget to reset the startup disk when you want to reboot from the MacBook).
If you don’t have a DVD, or you want a duplicate of your existing system, go with the clone idea, using CCC (not because it’s better than SuperDuper, but because it’s free if you don’t mind putting up with a few ads while it’s working!)
Hope that does the trick for you.
