Instant Collabortaion Pack & Netscape 7

I am testing iCP, however when Netscape 6 or 7 clients try to load the iIM java plugin, it fails with the following message being displayed in the Java Console.
Amazingly it works with IE6.0 - go figure.
Also if I use Java Web Start with the 1.4 JRE, no text is ever displayed between the chat participants.
Any adivce is highly appreciated as the evaluation must be completed the week.

IE vs Netscape performance

Sorry if this has been covered before, but my search didn't turn up anything obvious, so..
Environment is an applet to be run using the plug-in version 1.3.1.
When using IE v6, things seem fine. The applet jars (about 400K) load and the applet starts in about 10 seconds.
When using Netscape 4.7, things run fine, but the startup times grows to 70 seconds!
This behavior is consistent, irregardless of using the plug-in for caching, or the contents of the browser caches.
I'm stumped - what is going on with Netscape?

The problem, simply enough, was with ResourceBundles. If the .class for a specific locale of a ResourceBundle isn't in the .jar file, the requests gets passed to the sever. Mostly these fail with 404 errors.
On IE, this happens "instantly". On Netscape, there is a 15-second delay each time.
Solution: For those things we don't care about, create dummy resource classes and include them in the JAR.

Add a MIME type in iPS 3.0 SP4

Hi there,
I'm having difficulty adding a new MIME type to the portal server instance of the web server. It does not seem to recognise the new mime type added by the instant collaboration pack. When i start up the web server admin and apply changes, the whole portal server dies. any suggestion on getting the web server to recognise new mime types.

Please clarify the question. Browsers supported for what function? Portal channel, reading online help, launching the IM Java client, etc?

Permissions issue with installing iim

I am trying to install IIM using Portal SP3A. When I am prompted for the user and group to run as and the directory to install log files and such, it says the user/group does not have the proper permissions no matter who I use (except root). I have tried multiple users/groups, changed permissions, different directories, and even changed umask. Nothing works. What is the problem?

2 updates on this:
1. For testing purposes, i created a directory (/iimtest) and chown inetuser:inetgroup and chmod 777 on that directory. I then tried to install iim and it still says that inetuser does not have correct permissions for /iimtest. Now how could that be???

New hard drive help (first timer)

alright, i bought a new hard drive to install into my macbook pro, as i am running out of space on my current hard drive, i bought a new one from OWC and it came with this little "instant external" pack to make the hard drive into an external so i can prepare it for making it the main hard drive. my dilemma is that i dont have my snow leopard recovery disks anymore, i must of lost them when i moved, is there anyway to put snow leopard onto the external(but going to be the new main hard drive)?
if not, is there a way i can make new recovery disks?

I am assuming your new drive is a lot bigger than your old one. So why not simply clone your boot drive on to the the new drive mounted in an external enclosure?
You can use any backup utility capable of cloning a bootable backup. Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper are two such utilities. I believe even Disk Utility's Restore function can do it too.
Once you have the clone, remove it from the enclosure and stick it in your machine.

HT3964 Installed a new battery for a Macbook 2,1 New battery not charging. Battery symbol shows (Not charging) and replace battery. Green LED on magsafe connection. Disconnection results in an instant shutdown.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

Can't Install Java 2 Runtime Environment on Netscape 6.1 (Windows NT) ....

I would like to help to solve the captioned problem:
I was prompted to install Java 2 when I visited a webpage,
but the installation/setup went with error and I restart my PC...
I can't open my Netscape 6.1 anymoree as Error Message (whenever I click my Netscape icon):
"Close the Program and let the Installation attempt to Complete..and Restart Windows."
I close my Windows and Restart but it doesn't work.

There might be some connection or transfer error during the J2 installion but it shouldn't require a reboot. I'm a N6.1 user with Win2k Pro. Try reinstall the n6.1 and download the JVM pack at netscape update center.

Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP

After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt.... Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
3. Using windows registry:
1. Run regedit
2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
10. Reboot

For future reference: Service pack 3 Installation steps:
Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.
Step 1:
Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:
1. Click Start.
2. Select Run.
3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.
4. Click OK.
5. Click change or remove programs.
6. Select the program -service pack 3 that you want to uninstall or remove.
7. Click Remove button.
8. It will pop up the message stating that "Are you sure you want to remove the programs".
9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..

Photoshop Extended CS6 Crashes Instantly with no Error Report (Vid Inside)

Hello,
I have a single user license for Photoshop Extended CS6 and have never had problems with it until now. Yesterday I installed the Creative Cloud package and a trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro and since then I have had an issue with Photoshop CS6. I have uninstalled all Adobe Products on the machine and reinstalled PS Extended but still have the same issue. I have attached a video where you will see what happens. I open the program and after a couple of seconds it closes by itself with no warning or error message after. I did notice however that if I open a menu (in the video the help menu then System Info) the program will remain open until I close said window. I have tried uninstalling, system restore and the cleaning tool recommended by Adobe. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

When trying to update the option is unavailable in the program itself
I uninstalled all Adobe products as that was recommended in another thread and reinstalled it from this location Download CS6 products
I download File 1 (of 2) and that is the PS CS6 download that accepts my serial number but then continues to close instantly.
After downloading File 2 (of 2), called Photoshop_13_LS16.exe, I attempt to open it and receive this error message:
I have managed to manually install update 13.0.1.3 as it was the latest version I could find on the site Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
Even with that it still crashes instantly.

I'm trying to get some LiveConnect stuff running with a Java applet, but can't seem to find where to import
the package netscape.javascript.* from.

I've just installed Linux 9, jdk1.4.2_04, and Netscape 7.1.
I am trying to compile a working program (on Win.XP) using Ant.
I'm getting an error on the "import netscape.javascript.*;" statement.
I've reviewed many forum posts but I can't find the plugin.jar file anywhere.
I do have a plugin.pack file in <JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib
Anybody got an idea where plugin,jar might be or is plugin.pack some incantation I missed?
If so, what do I do with it?

Instant Messaging no longer works for me..why?

Instant Message came pre-loaded on my iPad 2 when purchased over 2 years ago. Always worked. Ever since downloading IOS7 and related fix-packs, no longer works. Ive gone to Settings and what I see does NOT match the directions apple.support. What is going on? Do I need a reloaded app from the Appke Store? If so, which one? Maybe I need an appt with my local apple store for a look-see. Yes, I've shut the iPad down altogether and brought it back up but it still is not working. So annoying,

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Packer can't fetch information from AUR

Hi,
Here is a strange think I have both packer and yaourt wrappers installed on a fairly fresh Archlinux box (installed about a week ago). One day packer stopped working, I can't search AUR or install from AUR, but other things, like install a package from a repositori, or search packages in repositories is working.
The strange thing is that yaourt is working fine, I can install with it from AUR - but I like packer more, because I did not figured out how to set up yaourt to use my predefined temporary directories to download and compile stuff, and also where to save the created packages - but this is a bit offtopic.
So does anybody have an idea what happened? I can't figure out, I did not modified any packer related stuff. I tried to reinstall packer, but it did not solved the problem.

The interesting thing is the ca certificate file on my 32-bit machine is identical to my 64-bit machine, is there another file it is looking at or another configuration file that is telling it to do something differently, or is the 32-bit binary doing something differently?
