Intellisense broken since 2012 release?

I've just gotten a new laptop and noticed the same issue I had with my previous laptop.
On my old laptop I installed Visual Studio 2013 and MSSQL Server 2012 Web Edition. When I use SSMS to connect to a remote database (also 2012 Web Edition) Intellisense doesn't work. Connecting to a DB on the local machine it works fine. So I installed 2008
Client Tools and used 2008 SSMS to connect to the 2012 Web Edition database and Intellisense works fine. No amount of refreshing local cache, disable/enabling Intellisense would force 2012 SSMS Intellisense to work.
I've just gotten a new laptop and done fresh installs of Visual Studio 2013 and SQL Server 2014 Web edition including SSMS. Sure enough, I'm having exactly the same problems with intellisense connecting to the remote 2012 Web Edition DB. So I installed 2008
SSMS and again, it works.
I've done a lot of reading and I cannot find a solve for this. I've rebooted plenty of times, refreshed the intellisense local cache a lot and still nothing.
Any ideas?

Also, this is not a behavior thing as I can use intellisense on a local DB and it's functioning as I would expect.
In case it's not clear in my original post, here's a summary of the issue:
- SSMS 2008 connecting to my remotely hosted database, intellisense works
- SSMS 2012 connecting to the same remotely hosted database, intellisense doesn't work
- SSMS 2012 connecting to a locally hosted database, intellisense works
So I can prove that Intellisense as a feature is working in my install by connecting locally. It's just not working with this remote database for some reason.

Have you applied the latest Service Pack on SQL Server 2012? If you haven’t, please try to install the latest Service Pack for SQL Server 2012 , then check if intellisense works while using SSMS 2012 to connect to the remotely database. If the

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference?

What happens if i havent backed up my phone on itunes since 2012

I want to update my phones software but I need to free up some storage first. So I want to back it up onto my iTunes or icloud. But since I haven't backed up this device yet I am scared everything on my phone may get deleted off of it. I am unsure of what would happen if I was to back my phone up for the first time since 2012.

on my iTunes it says set up as new I phone or restore from this back up in 2012. if I do restore from that back up what will happen? I just want to back up this iphone onto my iTunes without everything getting deleted off the device.

Glad to help! The reply you got was very generic and didn't completely address your questions.
Basically, all it said was to restore your backup. What I addressed was your query about how and why this happened. iTunes did give you prompts and warnings. And if you'd used iTunes back in 2012, then you'd have lost much less data when you made the incorrect selection.
Do you have an iCloud backup? Were you backing up your device at all?
I just found it amusing that you were 'ticked off at Apple' when Apple didn't cause this problem. You did.

Asset Generator broken since recent update to Photoshop CC

With this latest update to Photoshop CC, the asset generator no longer seems to support having masks on a folder - asset will NOT generate if this is the case. Seems the only work-around is to clip everything down to a shape layer, which is highly awkward. Is this a bug? Can it please be fixed? This used to work just fine and has only been broken since the most recent update.

My team is having the same issue. I'd love to hear about a fix to this.

MacBook Air (2012 release) not working with projectors

I recently bought four MacBook Airs (all the new 2012 release) and I can not get any of them to work with an LCD projector. I have tried generic and authetic mini display adapters and have tried a few different projectors. All I am able to see when I connect them in a black screen with lines running down.
Interestingly enough, if I connect the MBA to an LCD monitor, it works just fine. Then, once I have connected it to an LCD monitor, I can then connect it to a projector. Also, if I shut down the MBA, plug in the dongle, and restart the computer, I can use the projector immediately.
Additionally, I can not get the projector to work at all when using BootCamp with Windows 7 Professional. It doesn't even see the projector at all not matter what I do.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This is extremely frustrating and Apple is being NO HELP whatsoever.

Guys, I've found a workaround that works for both VGA and HDMI issues, to enable you to use the MBA at clients/concerts/universities/other offices etc. It's not elegant, but it works:
- Turn off MBA completely
- Plug into an HDMI or VGA (perhaps ANY) screen
- Boot up and it'll be perfect; as others have already reported. Thus far these steps are OK for anyone who doesn't need to pre-load content. But for those of us that do...
- Now, here's the trick, u can suspend/sleep the MBA now, THEN unplug the screen, move to your new venue, THEN plug in the ANOTHER screen/projector, and turn back on again and it'll work! Yes, even tho it's a different screen, it'll flash a bit and work things out exactly like we're used to with our older macs.
- ie this enables you to set up an external display at work/home, pre-load all your presentation/content/web pages, close the MBA and go to client/lecture hall, then plug into a projector there without having lost your content.
So, in short, provided the MBA is fooled into thinking it was powered up with a screen connected, it'll work thereafter. PROVIDED it is not given the chance to think otherwise ie don;t unplug screen whilst it is awake.
This SO speaks to a perfectly solvable firmware/driver issue. Probably around power management.

Rendering of Arabic/Transliteration broken since upgrade to 29

Mozilla Firefox 29.0.0 - 29.0.1, MacOS X 10.9.2
Problem: Arabic fonts (Lateef, Sheherazade) as well as transliteration Arabic > Latin is broken since update to 29. They were fine before. This happens when loading pages from a database. The protocol uses 'mixed content' and there seems to have been an update in Firefox's handling of such content. However, even explicitly unblocking such content doesn't solve the problem (apparently, one has to deblock every single page or is there an option for an entire domain? Otherwise, this is a pain in the neck and completely impractical). Firefox 'chooses' to select encoding seemingly at random: View > Character Encoding > Unicode/Western. Unfortunately, this version of Firefox scratched the possibility to select default encoding.
Now, the pages loaded do not declare their encoding. However, this was not a problem because FF would use Unicode (UTF-8) by default. Setting instead "Default for Current Locale" is obviously useless. That's where the problem seems to be. Why was the plain default option changed so that we have no longer access to it? As you will understand in mixed environments (using a variety of languages and keyboard layouts), 'default locale' is pointless. Any suggestions are most welcome.

FredMcD. Thank you for the hints. I'm sure they help in most cases. It didn't solve my problem though. Normal websites work actually quite well, it's just the internal ones that have this problem.
cor-el. Thank you also for your hints. I checked and I'm pretty sure that it's not a corrupt font. The problem, as I've mentioned, is that the server does not declare its encoding. This wasn't a problem as long as UFT-8 could be declared as fall-back. Now, as I've written, there is only the option 'Default for Current Locale' which doesn't help. I suppose either Mozilla puts back the older option or we have to do something here. Would love to post link but I'm not sure there is general access to our servers (probably not) but I'll ask.
I attached an exampled of how the 'garbled' text looks. It's more than garbled there just no font 'resolution'.

IOS Simulator Broken Since Xcode 5.1

Ever since Apple released thier newest version of Xcode (5.1) at the start of March the iOS simulator does not work from Flash Professional CC (I do not have Flash Builder).
Updates to AIR 4 didn't help because it woud throw an error about missing files.
Updates to AIR 13 didn't help because the option is disabled (opthion is greyed out in the menu).
How I installed AIR in Flash CC: Help > Manage Adobe AIR SDK > Choose AIR 13 Folder
Ive installed both AIR 13.0.0.83 (official release) and AIR 13.0.0.95 (SDK and Compiler Beta, not Flex) and restarted Flash. Am I missing a step or not correctly installing it?
Is this a known issue under investigation and is any progress being made?

Anton are you using Flash Builder or Flash Pro? It seems that there are work-arounds for Flash Builder, but none for Flash Pro ...

Lost all calendar events since 2012 and most before then!

I updated my wife's iPhone to her own iTunes/Apple ID - now any calendar events since 2012 have been deleted and even some of those left i.e. from 2012 and before have been deleted as well.
Whenever I was offered the option to delete/merge/keep items they were kept and not deleted.
I have looked everywhere I can think off, including using iPhone recovery software - and there isn't any sign of deleted calendar events! If they had been deleted as I changed the Apple ID - I would have thought they would all have been deleted! As you can appreciate it, I am now firmly in the dog house! - where have they gone and can I recover them?

Thanks - initially the calendar seemed to be totally empty. I then did as you suggest and discovered the events prior to 2013. It is almost as if there was an incomplete synch and then it synched again and took the incomplete version as the correct version - loosing all 2013 events and some of the events prior to 2013!

I've done some research on the SQLite database. Whenever Aperture hangs up (like during auto-stack or opening the filter hud) there are thousands of SQLite queries happening. These SQLite queries cause massive file I/O because the database is stored on the disk as 1kb pages. However, the OS is caching the database file; mine's only 12MB. I'm trying to track down some performance numbers for SQLite on osx but having trouble.
It's starting to look like most of the speed problems are in the libraries that Aperture uses instead of the actual Aperture code. Of course, that doesn't completely let the developers off the hook since they choose to use them in the first place.
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the database is completely open to queries using the command line sqlite3 tool. Here's the language reference http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html

Broken PCI card release tab question

Ordered and received the ATI 4870 video card upgrade from Apple and read the included instructions. In lifting up the plastic card release tab at the end of the PCI express slot to release the ATI 2600 video card the plastic tab broke off and fell down into the machine. I was able to remove the old card and install the new one without other problems. The new card seems to be working well.
Should I be concerned about this broken release tab and the plastic piece which has fallen who knows where? I have Apple care on the Mac Pro and there is an Apple store in the area.

Apple will probably not cover it since you broke it. There should be no problem using it without the plastic latch, but if you ship the Mac Pro, make sure the card is pushed all the way in before connecting power.

Mac Pros extra two internal sata ports broken since Leopard 10.5??

I have a Mac Pro and according to xlr8yourmac.com and the newertech website, there are four sata ports for your hard drives PLUS an additional two more sata ports directly on the motherboard. Through a complicated and difficult disassembly, it is possible to dissect your mac pro and install their cable which they sell for about $30, and get at the rear of your mac pro housing connectors for these two internal sata ports. In short, it's nothing more than an extension cable that fits into a neat housing at the back of the mac pro. You can then plug up to two esata drives into those jacks and they are basically hooked into the macpro motherboard. I ordered this cable and it worked splendidly since 10.4.8 and for 10.4.9 without any issue (that I could tell). I was even able to raid them together etc etc. (edit to be clear I mean I had two Lacie 500Gb drives with esata, firewire 800, 400 and USB 2 on them).
When I installed 10.5 it was all broken!! What a disaster. I can't use these drives on the firewire bus (which by the way they work fine on) because I am already tieing up that with other devices and drives. I need these extra two buses, plus they were **** fast before- I guess it's the same bus as the internal drives get.
I have contacted Lacie - no luck - and also newertech, and did so again today, but so far no luck, and apple, no luck and even submitted a feedback request back when we were on 10.5.1 (just released at that time), and no luck. I hoped 10.5.2 would restore this functionality.
I was told Apple do not normally go out of their way to kill unintended functionality but could this be the case on this occasion?

(I asked if he knew of any way to do that in OS X.)
the SATA controller does support AHCI mode, which enables hot plugging (same as with the raid southbridges ICH6R - ICH8R which support hot plugging with raid drivers from Intel without Intel assuring this).
But it does not support AHCI if the PATA port is used as in the Mac Pro. And without AHCI there is no way to do hot plugging.
Using a SATA DVD drive may not mean AHCI is used automatically. The controller has to be switched from IDE to AHCI mode. Maybe the Mac Pro does it on startup or some EFI specialist can finds out how to do that.
BTW Tiger can handle an ICH8R in AHCI mode on all SATA ports without a problem.

Info/Tips on using Spare SATA Ports with Windows: (from Jan 15th, 2008 news page) This may have come up in the past and I'd forgotten it (don't own a Mac Pro yet) but in reply to a post yesterday (1/15/2008) on the Pioneer SATA Blu-Ray reader/Superdrive combo drive, a reader mentioned the spare SATA ports are not usable in Windows XP at least with the standard drivers with Bootcamp. (Most readers have used the ports in OS X although I've not searched drive db reports for anyone that mentioned using Bootcamp/Windows also. BTW - The spare ports are bootable for OS X use, as noted in this article - although drives are not shown/usable when booted from Windows with standard drivers.)
(Update) Here's a reader mail w/tips on using the spare ports with Windows via a replacement chipset driver install and grub bootloader edit:

- Install Win XP and ubuntu linux with a pata dvd drive in XP, change the ide 2680 driver to the intel ahci driver found here (downloadcenter.intel.com) S5000 Based Server AHCI SATA Storage Driver for Windows.
- Boot into ubuntu and change the stage1 file of the grub bootloader to this:

This keeps the mac pro in ahci mode when booting a foreign OS
Now you can boot windows using the linux partition, this will start grub and keep the mac pro in the correct mode
I also installed Refit to make things a little easier but as far as i know using Alt key when booting should work too.

Mail is broken since 10.8.2 update

I updated to v 10.8.2 two days ago, since then Mail has been broken. I can see the sender, date, a snippet of message in the in box column but cannot read the message if I attempt to highlight it or click to expand it. It is completely blank, no sender, no date, no subject line. I can read the message if I opt to return the mail, however, mail shuts down "unexpectedly" after I type five characters, an error box comes up to advise the problem will be reported to Apple and gives me the option of reopening. Reopening only makes the ugly cycle begin again.
I have attempted turning off mail and restarting it, taking all accounts offline and then bringing them back up, shutting down computer completely and go through regular start up, using restart. I attempted to copy the the area of the error message to be of better assistance but it was gone before I could click copy. It says 'Terminating app due to uncaught exception' and 'could not find our own bundle'... "throwing an exception".
Seems to be having a fair sized hissy fit, any patch to fix this bug or do I just deal with the inconvinience until the next update and hope for the best?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

Handoff broken in Public Release, but works in Beta. Help?

I have a partitioned drive; one that was strictly a Yosemite beta install, and my day-to-day work machine that had been in working order.
This second drive was updated to the public release of Yosemite.
Here is one of my many dilemmas with Yosemite:
Handoff is broken.
Doesn't work, ever.
In the Beta build: Works like a champ! Every time.
Yes, all my software is up to date, and my hardware is supported.
Any insight on resolving this?
