Interconnect speed on dbconsole

Hi,
We are seeing Private Interconnect Transfer Rate (MB/Sec)     betwee 0.45 MB/Sec to 0.023 MB/Sec. This we are seeing on DB Console. (DB Console -> Cluster -> Interconnects )
can it be due to less load on system or the interconnect it self is slow?
Is there a way to load test interconnect?
This is 11.2.0.3 ON AIX 7.1, paired gigabit ethernet as private interconnect.
For both nodes following gives abt 2 ms for AVG CR BLOCK RECEIVE TIME (ms)
select b1.inst_id, b2.value "GCS CR BLOCKS RECEIVED",
b1.value "GCS CR BLOCK RECEIVE TIME",
((b1.value / b2.value) * 10) "AVG CR BLOCK RECEIVE TIME (ms)"
from gv$sysstat b1, gv$sysstat b2
where b1.name = 'global cache cr block receive time' and
b2.name = 'global cache cr blocks received' and b1.inst_id = b2.inst_id
or b1.name = 'gc cr block receive time' and
b2.name = 'gc cr blocks received' and b1.inst_id = b2.inst_id
/Also please see following
/home/oracle> hostname

/home/oracle> netstat -p udp

The approach I would take is to ask "do you actually have a problem?" No end user has ever telephoned the help desk to say "the interconnect transfer rate is too low". If they aren't complaining, there is no problem.
That having been said, I've just looked at the avg global cache CR receive time on three systems, and your 2ms is not brilliant but is in the range:

  • RAC interconnect switch?

    Hi,
We are in the process of migrating from a 10g single instance database to 2 node RAC (Windows Server 2008 OS, EMC storage with 2 SAN swithes,…) and we have some doubts about interconnect.
We are having difficulty in selecting the correct interconnect speed for the interconnect network, difficulty in selecting the switch/switches, …
    1.     Because there are 2 nodes, and 4 Ethernet cables for interconnect, whether to use one or two switches? Using a switch can be a solution but a single switch become a big single point of failure.
    2.     Whether we can get in performance if we use 2 switches (bonding,…) ?
    3.     As mentioned, there are 4 Ethernet cables, is it good idea to use existing 1Gb switches that we use for public network or to buy 1Gb switches that will be used only for private interconnection?
    4.     Can we use simple 16 or 8 port GigE switches?
Maybe you can point me out to some GigE and SAN switches (for nodes - storage connection) which you've seen that they work without any problems with RAC.
How can we best deisgn the networks for the interconnects?
    Thank in advance!

So the best solution for interconnection would be InfiniBand or 10GigE.If you look at what Oracle itself chose for their RAC hardware product range, then yes. Infiniband is a better choice.
What do you think about InfiniBand and Windows Server OS?Last used Windows as a server o/s back in the mid 90's. :-)
No idea how robust the OFED driver stack is on Windows. It ships with Oracle Linux as Oracle uses it for their RAC products.
What is the difference in price for InfiniBand and GigE switches?About the same I would think. A 40Gb 12 to 24 port switches a few years ago were actually cheaper than a 10GigE switch of the same port count. Pricing has come down for both though. We have recently bought a couple of 32 port QDR switches at far below $10,000 a switch.
Cabling is needed and HCA (PCI) cards too. The cards are cheaper I think than HBAs (fibre channel cards). The only issue we had in this regard is getting pizza box/blade servers with 2 PCI slots for supporting both HBA and HCA. Recent server models often have only one PCI slot as oppose to the prior models of a few years ago. So when choosing a newer servers and you need both HBA and HCA, you need to make sure there are in fact 2 PCI slots in the server.
And again, can you point me out to some InfiniBand switches which you've seen that they work without any problems with 2 node RAC?Oracle used Voltaire IB (Infiniband) switches for the first Oracle Database Machine/Exadata product. The only top500 cluster in Africa is basically (almost) next door to us here in Cape Town. They are also using Voltaire switches.
If I'm not mistaken, the same Voltaire switches are OEM'ed and sold by Oracle/Sun and HP and others. I have an HP quote for about the same below $10,000 per switch price. Of course, you can get away with a much smaller switch for a 2 node RAC - and a 2nd switch is only a consideration if you can justify the cost for redundancy in the Interconnect redundancy layer.
Voltaire pretty much seems to lead the market in this respect. Cisco used to sell IB switches too - but some of these were horribly buggy (especially the ones with FC gateways). Cisco acquired TopSpin back then - we still have a couple of old 10Gb TopSpin switches (bought from Cisco) and these have been pretty rock solid through the years. But QDR (40Gb) is what one should be looking at and not the older SDR or DDR technologies.
You should be able to shop around your existing vendors (HP, Oracle/Sun, etc) for IB switches - with the exception of Cisco that no longer does IB switches (afaik).

There are many possible reasons for that.
Most likely a corrupted cookie or cache file for that site may be responsible.
On the Safari menu bar got to Safari -> Empty Cache
Then go to Safari -> Preferences and click on the 3rd symbol from right.
Click on Details -> type the name of the particular site (e.g. facebook) in the search field and delete all upcoming entry's.
Restart Safari and try again to log in on the site.

my issue is it boots slow and when its running i feel like theres somthing going on in the background but ive looked at log in items and i see nothing there other than smc fan control, logmein, istat menus. you know how when your machine is crunching data you can hear it, well thats kinda whats going on only im not actually doing anything.. i tried the permission thing i tried the disk thing i tried time machine tried the start up disk thing even unplugged my two tb external... nothing seems to work. i was thinking since i have all my stuff backed up is there a way to get snow leapord back on this machine? i lost my disks and the back up didnt work apparently lion removed any snow leopard back up that there was and im now currently running mountian lion (i like it but im wondering if its too much OS for the hardware), i really dont want to buy a new machine i mean its only a few years old and i have 820 gigs free on a 2 tb  internal drive so i see no reason to buy new. any help would be greatly appreciated..

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • What are the things 10.6.8 update break?

After the 10.6.8 update I am having so many issues,
first, the %100 cpu usage of dock, disabled parallels, and now it is ok,
then, a reboot and I am unable to login, I enter my password, it begins the login process, then logs me out,
if I persist, it logs me in after a couple of tries, but each time a few of my applications are missing at random, and the environment is very very unstable, sometimes I see no desktop background, sometimes I start firefox and I am logged out again.
I've seen some people suggesting removal of login items to resolve a similar but not the same issue, so I'm inclined to think overall, there is an issue with some applications which 10.6.8 update breaks.
For starters my login items are:
    GrowlHelper
    Geektool
    EyeTv Helper
    Canon IJ Network scanner
    ituneshelper
    Magicprefs
    Sophosuiserver
Does anyone have any problems with any of these?
I only verified the parallels desktop 6 issue up to now.

  • 15" Macbook Pro (Mid-2010) keeps spontaneously restarting

    All,
I've looked around and found several threads addressing this problem, however, I have tried all the recommended fixes and still have nothing to show for it.  Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if there is any more information that you might need to help me out. I'm not too code savy, but I can figure most things out and find an answer when I don't know how (shoutout to youtube).
    Back story:
    - 4 Months ago, I upgraded to OSX Mavericks from the stock OS (I think Leopard).
    - Almost two weeks after I did this it began restarting randomly, wasn't often and happened when I was doing something unimportant (watching a TV show, movie, photo editing) so I didn't mind.
    - Two weeks after that, it happened quite often and became an issue almost to the point where I could barely login before it would restart.
    - Read around for solutions for about a week, tried those, things went back to normal for a week or so before the problems began again.
    - The next week it would restart then get stuck at the apple logo and 'loading wheel', couldn't even get to login.
    - Following week I went to the Genius Bar, they came to the conclusion that it was my HD and recommended that I get a new one.
    - Went online got a new one and installed it via iFixit guide. Also installed OSX Mavericks via USB install.
    - Problem was not solved continued to occur almost identical, nothing bad at first, then increasingly reoccuring.
This brings me to this article post.
I have only installed necessary updates from the Apple Store, Firefox, VLC player, as well as loaded my old files from my external to this one.
Here are the specifics and stuff Ive seen posted before when reading these types of posts:

Thanks for your help again guys and gals!
    - Nick

Kernel panics usually indicate some hardware failure, possibly RAM (if you hear 'beep beep beep': have you had the memory chips out at all? Or has the computer suffered a sharp knock recently? If so, try try removing and reinserting the RAM in the slots), but more likely a hard disk is dying or corrupted. Worst case scenario is the logic board is kaput (lets hope not).
The most important thing I'd do in your case is make a clone of your entire system (google "Carbon Copy Cloner"). Partly cos this will help you test whether its the drive (see next line), but more importantly because it'll preserver your data.
After making the clone, try running your system off the clone for a week and see if the panics subside. If so, replace your internal hard disk.
EDIT: On second glance, I see the panic is being called from the graphics card. Is that always the case (examine older or subsequent reports) or just in this one?

  • Green stripe appears on video after compressing

After running a Quicktime file through Compressor, I get a green stripe running horizontally across the center of the image. The stripe covers roughly a third of the screen vertically.
    Some background:
The computer is a new 12 core, Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. After experiencing the problem I did a clean install of the OS, installed Final Cut Pro Studio 2, then installed all the updates and still got the green stripe. I have been using the same version of Final Cut on an iMac for two and a half years without this issue. The iMac is also running Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
    The Quicktime file is 1920 x 1080, ProRes 422
The Compressor settings are as follows:

Myself as well. I briefly talked to Apple phone support, but they didn't acknowledge the disrepency and proceeded to have me re-install Compressor (even though I was using a clean install of both the OS and Final Cut Suite). Of course, there was no change. It does bother me in that this may be an issue that affects other functions I haven't yet uncovered. I expect see this problem escalate as time goes on.
One rather humorous anecdote: The support rep wanted to determine if I had the minimum hardware required to run Final Cut Suite. When I told him I had just purchased a 12 core Mac Pro, he still went through the minimum required hardware list. One would think an Apple rep would know this system would more than cover the minimum requirements without going through a component checklist.

  • How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro?

How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro? Or am I SOL?

You can't. Theoretically, Thunderbolt devices that only transfer video and audio should work with Mini DisplayPort MacBooks like yours, but it's not the case of the Thunderbolt Display. Its firmware doesn't allow it to be used with non-Thunderbolt Macs, so you can't use the Thunderbolt Display with the Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.
Instead, you have to look for another screen, or you can get an adapter and connect the MacBook Pro to a TV

I use this laptop as my home computer but do graphic design on it quite frequently for side jobs but I'm still on OS 10.6.8. My adobe Creative suite is a (not so legal) CS5 that had to be configured to work on this machine.
At work I am about to upgrade my 2010 iMac to the newest OS version and install the new Adobe Creative Cloud suite on it in June. I would like to get the full version, so I can run it on my MacBook too (you are allowed to run two computers with the software purchase) but will this even be possible with my older machine? I can't afford a new one...it doesn't even feel that old.
Also, if it IS possible, then how would I go about uninstalling my CS5? There was quite a bit of tinkering done - not by me so I don't know exactly what - to make it work.
So what should I do? Should I take in to a Mac specialist? Thanks in advance.

I have been doing live broadcasts fro years on older computers but I am unable to preform live broadcast on my new MacBook Pro and I could use your help in figuring out why.
Unsolved Problem:I need to be able to broadcast from CamTwist as CamTwist is the only program that will allow me to do what I need to do.   Justin.tv and Ustream.tv do not recognize CamTwist for reasons I can not explain.
I know that Justin.tv and Ustream.tv should recognize CamTwist because I currently have several  computers that are using CamTwist to broadcast  on  Justin.tv and Ustream.tv.
I just want to be able to broadcast live streams from my MacBookPro
I have tried to broadcast on sites like justin.tv and ustream.tv just like I have done in the past on other computers but no luck on my MacBook Pro.

Unsolved Problem:I need to be able to broadcast from CamTwist as CamTwist is the only program that will allow me to do what I need to do.   Justin.tv and Ustream.tv do not recognize CamTwist for reasons I can not explain.

  • I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message.  This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac.  I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message.  I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old.  Obviously I'm using iDVD.  I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem.  A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above.  I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD.  Still the same message came up.  I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened.  This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened.  They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had.  The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's.  The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message.  The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work!  It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion.  I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy.  It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems.  Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.

Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter.  So much appreciated.  And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this).  Although, you may regret asking for more information.  I've added everything I can below.
The process I used is as follows:
Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
Add title to front of clips
‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
Select submenu  - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
    Change title colours on clips
Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
    Try new DVD discs
Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
    Change images in drop zones
Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
Try with one clip and no menu pages added
Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
    Turn computer off and restart
    New hard drive
    New optical lense (thing)
    New DVD burner
Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
    Other points:
I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across.  I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went.  It burned to disc image successfully.
The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this.  That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.
Other technical stuff that I don't understand but you may:
    I have…… Mac OS X Version 10.6.7 with all updates onit.  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Corei7.  Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

If you can solve this you are better than the 'apple geeks' in the shop and the service technicians in the service centre (and of course me but that's no achievement).
    Eagerly awaiting your reply.
