Invalid Number Error for Decimal Field While Loading Data

I am loading a delimited text file using the SQL* loader however I am reciving an error in my decimal fields. When a decimal field only has leading zeros before the decimal point I receive invalid number error. Below will clarify:
i.e.) 00000000.30 [*Invalid number*]
i.e.) 00046567.45 [*Valid number*]
i.e.) 00000001.00 [*Valid number*]
I've tried setting the precision/scale in the table, tried declaring it a decimal field instead of number, none of these methods fixed the issue. Any help I would really appreciate.

  • Invalid number error for bind dialog

    Oracle SQL Developer version 1.1.2.25 BUILD MAIN-25.79
    Running under WinXP
    Issue description:
    We get an invalid number error when bind variable filled with an enter in the bind dialog

    It is hard to say what is causing your problem without the specifics (ie query and value entered for the bind variable). Try running the same statement with the value of the bind variable in place of the bind variable (ie instead of running "select * from dual where dummy = :var" with a value of 'x' for :var, run "select * from dual where dummy = 'x'"). If you get the same error, then it is not an issue with the use of bind variables.
    Be aware that currently you cannot define the data type of bind variables (unlike TOAD, etc) and they are all treated as character values. I wouldn't have thought that this would cause you problem unless you are using a bind variable to restrict a numeric column to a specific value and you are entering a non-numeric bind (ie "select * from people where person_id = :id" and using 'xyz' as the value for :id).

  • "Invalid Number" error for no apparent reason

    Hi.
    We're transferring data from one table on one DB to a data warehouse on a separate DB. All Oracle 11g running on Windows Server 2003.
    The columns all match data wise, and it's a simple select and insert.
    However, we got an ORA-01722: invalid number error on one run. We checked all the data, which was fine (all 540,000 rows) and ran it again with no error this time.
    I'd like to know if anyone knows why this would happen if there is no issue with the data validity. I'll take all guesses or known issues and check them against our systems. If anyone knows how I can get this to repeat I'd be grateful as it's all running fine now.
    Cheers
    Si

    The data is transferred using a Java program. Select into an OracleResultSet() then read each row result into a prepared statement. Were using the batch send, I believe every 100 rows.
    The source columns match the target columns for name and type, with two exceptions where the column name is slightly different but the column type still matches.
    There are not triggers on either the source or target tables.
    Cheers
    Si

    Hi Andy,
    This is a Basis issue so maybe you could create a thread for it on one of the Basis forums (unfortunately I don't have suffficent authorisations to move it for you)?

    Hello,
    I've commented out or removed the fields that are not listed.. here is the modified code.. I just added the part where is was prompting errors..
    Yes, I tested just now and it is looping and printing all five record counters..
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure GSO_SBX_ADMIN.row_add_v3 is
    rct_cnt number := 0;
    begin
    for daily_gis_add in
            SELECT '', METERID, ENDDATE, HOURENDING, VOLUMEVALUE, CUSTOMERNAME, DEVICEID, CUSTOMERID, SERVICEPOINTID
            FROM GSO_IEE_STAGE gis where  trunc(gis.loaded_dt) = trunc(sysdate)
    loop
    insert into gso_iee_process_log
       TIMESTAMP_ID,  PREMISEID,METERID,ENDDATE ,HOURENDING,VOLUMEVALUE ,
       CUSTOMERNAME,DEVICEID,CUSTOMERID,SERVICEPOINTID
        VALUES
              SYSDATE,
              daily_gis_add.METERID,
              daily_gis_add.ENDDATE,
              daily_gis_add.HOURENDING,
              daily_gis_add.VOLUMEVALUE,
              daily_gis_add.CUSTOMERNAME,
              daily_gis_add.DEVICEID,
              daily_gis_add.CUSTOMERID,
              daily_gis_add.SERVICEPOINTID
            commit;
          rct_cnt := rct_cnt + 1;
      dbms_output.put_line(' rowadded '|| rct_cnt);

  • Invalid number error when calculating with sysdate

    Hello - I am getting invalid number error for query below:
    SELECT *
    FROM
    trkg
    WHERE
    trkg.tran_type=500
    AND
    trkg.mod_date_time>sysdate-0.5
    I am not sure what is wrong with above query. Strange part is that it executes fine in one environmnet and returns 'invalid number' error in other environmnet? Please help me find missing setting.

    more information:
    Table1: LOCN_HDR with field locn_brcd and locn_id
    locn_brcd locn_id
    26001A 0000086
    26002A 0000087
    26001B 0000088
    Table2: PICK_LOCN with field LOCN_ID
    locn_id
    0000086
    0000087
    0000088
    Table3: TRKG with field from_locn and mod_date_time (this is timestamp field)
    from_locn mod_date_Time
    0000086 29-MAY-13 10.09.23.000000000 AM
    0000087 29-MAY-13 10.11.48.000000000 AM
    0000088 31-MAY-13 04.07.21.000000000 PM
    Now I combine Table1 and Table3
    select * from appwms.locn_hdr lh
    join
    (SELECT lh.locn_brcd,trkg.mod_Date_Time from appwms.trkg
    join appwms.locn_hdr lh
    on trkg.FROM_LOCN = lh.LOCN_ID
    where
    trkg.TRAN_TYPE = 500
    and trkg.mod_Date_time>sysdate-5
    ) trkg1 on lh.locn_brcd=trkg1.locn_brcd
    -- returns values correctly
    Now when I join another table to above (ie table 2), it returns 'invalid number'
    select * from appwms.locn_hdr lh
    join
    (SELECT lh.locn_brcd,trkg.mod_Date_Time from appwms.trkg
    join appwms.locn_hdr lh
    on trkg.FROM_LOCN = lh.LOCN_ID
    where
    trkg.TRAN_TYPE = 500
    and trkg.mod_Date_time>sysdate-5
    ) trkg1 on lh.locn_brcd=trkg1.locn_brcd
    join
    (select pld.locn_id,lh.locn_brcd
    from APPWMS.PICK_LOCN PLD join appwms.locn_hdr lh
    on pld.locn_id = lh.LOCN_ID ) picklocn on picklocn.locn_brcd=lh.locn_brcd
    why are rows returned with one join? when i have more than one join why does it return error 'invalid number'.

  • Invalid number error with Form on table page

    We used the "Form on Table..." wizard to create a simple page to update the SCOTT.EMP table. When we submit the page we get the ORA-01722: invalid number error. When I view the data in the WWV_FLOW_DATA view in the FLOWS_010500 schema, I can see all the data from our form in long format with the actual values that were submitted. But I can not track down where this error is coming from.

    James,
    What data did you enter in each field? Could it be as simple as you tried to enter character data into the deptno column?

  • Invalid Number Error Please help Urgent

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a report in discoverer where in I get an invalid number error for the statement
    ,DECODE(final.TYP,'Sales',to_char(final.future_supplpy),'B/O','B/O') sale_type.
    We have the requirement that when TYP is Sales i need to display future supply and when the TYP is B/O i need to display B/O.
    The query runs perfectly fine in TOAD but in Discoverer Desktop when i run the report i get an error message
    invalid number.
    Please help its urgent
    Thanks
    Ashwini

    Hi Ashwani
    First of all, your statement appears to not be handling anything other than Sales or B/O. Is that deliberate? If not, you need a default, catch all value at the end like this:
    DECODE(final.TYP,'Sales',NVL(final.future_supply,to_char(final.future_supply),'B/O','B/O', default_value) sale_type
    You also might want to make sure there aren't any NULL values in future_supply or in TYP and if there are you might want to consider using an NVL for these, like this:
    DECODE(final.TYP,'Sales',NVL(to_char(final.future_supply,NULL),'B/O','B/O', default_value) sale_type
    Also, when using DECODE you don't always need to use TO_CHAR as the DECODE conversion to a string typically takes place automatically. CASE is different as it insists that all results are of the same data type.
    Hope this helps
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • TO_CHAR to convert date getting 'Invalid number' error

    I am trying to convert a static date value using TO_CHAR function but I can't believe I am not able to do it such a simple conversion.
    //Obviously this is easy and everyone would like to give this as an example and this is what I see everwhere on Google and it works.
    SELECT TO_CHAR(sysdate, 'YYYY-MM-DD') FROM DUAL;
    How can I make it work like this?
    SELECT TO_CHAR('2010-JUN-23', 'YYYY-MM-DD') FROM DUAL;
    I keep getting "Invalid number" error. I changed my constant date to different formats but none works.

    Your first literal is not a date, assuming you didn't set NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
    So the code should have been
    SELECT TO_CHAR(to_date('2010-JUN-23','YYYY-MON-DD'), 'YYYY-MM-DD') FROM DUAL;
    Please note DATEs are always converted to VARCHAR2 when you SELECT them, using NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
    When you use a DATE string literal it ias always implicitly converted to a real date, by using NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
    So if you want all your dates formatted as YYYY-MON-DD, you need to set NLS_DATE_FORMAT to that mask.

  • Error While loading data for LIS InfoSources.

    Hi All,
    I am repeatedly receiving load failure errors while loading data using 2lis_01_s001 (This is the case with all the InfoSources).
    The error message is:
    An error occurred in the source system.
    Note
    If the source system is a Client Workstation, then it is possible that the file that you wanted to load was being edited at the time of the data request. Make sure that the file is in the specified directory, that it is not being processed at the moment, and restart the request.
    in our Quality system, we disabled the LIS Updation to No Update(R3) and loaded data and then again changed the Update Mode for No Updating to Asynchronous Update(R3). But now we are doing dataloading in Production. How to proceed. Should we have to disable the LIS Updating whenever we have to load the loads from R3 to BW.
    Regards
    Jay

    Hi Jayanthy,
    Pls. check the order of the fields in the two set up tables for the S001 structure. The order of fields in both the tables should be the same.
    You can see the structure in the TCode - SE11.
    If the order is different, then you bneed to ask the BASIS person to change the order so that the order of fields in both the setup tables is same. This should fix the issue.

    Hi
    While loading master data im getting below error
    "Record filtered in advance as error records with the same key exist".
    When I clicked, above error Long Text, I am getting below error
    Diagnosis
         The existing DTP requires a serialized update because fields are updated
         non-commutatively during the processing run (for example, MOVE).
         Therefore all new data records that have the same semantic key as
         incorrect records that have not yet been corrected in earlier requests
         or earlier data packages of the same request, are filtered out after the
         extraction in a special step. In this way the system ensures that
         incorrect data records are not repeated for your changes, which may not
         contain errors themselves.
    System Response
         The data record is not updated but is written to an error stack.

    This error occurs when you try to create a materialized view , but if you run the sql the results are perfectly fine. Well it happend to me also and to fix this I made sure all the coulmns have the same data type which are used in joins or in where clause.
    use
    where
    to_number(col1)=to_number(col2) and to_number(col3)=to_number(col4)
    hope this helps..

  • Error while loading data from application server

    Hi all,
    Am facing a problem while loading data from application server.
    The error i get is ....
    *" The argument ' Rental/Lease ' cannot be interpreted as a number while assigning character to application structure*.
    'Rental/Lease' is a value for a character infoobject length 30. I checked for the sequence of fields in data source and the sequnce of values am receiving in application server and the sequence match.
    when i copy these values into a CSV onto a desktop and load,load is successful.
    Please let me know your views.
    Thanks&Regards,
    Praveen

    It looks like the system is trying to convert Rental/Lease to a number format.   Is the info object type CHAR or NUMC or ???  I would look there.
    Also, make  sure / is in RSKC.
