Invoking Managed Bean at a Page Level

I know JSF is component based, but I have a situation where I am writing an application using Nagios ( http://www.nagios.org ), which is an OSS network monitoring tool. The tool monitors/notifies systems (db, ldap, mq, etc) using unique URL's.
I've written a backing bean which takes the URL parameters to decide which system to test.
The URL is:
http://localhost:8080/start.faces?system=mysql
The code in start.faces is:
String system = (String)request.getParameter("system");
FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
Application app = ctx.getApplication();
app.createValueBinding("#{monitor.system}").setValue(ctx,system);
//TODO: figure out how to invoke testAction() from here rather than using commandLink belowRight now i'm putting the parameter into a command link that I click manually to invoke the backing bean:
<h:form id="formSubmit" >
     <h:commandLink value="Call testAction()"
                    action="#{monitor.testAction}" >
          <f:param name="system" value="#{monitor.system}" />
     </h:commandLink>
</h:form>     While this is fine while I am developing the app, it won't work with a tool that only submits http requests.
What I'd like to do is to call the testAction() from the URL (as is shown in "TODO" above). It seems like there should be a way to invoke the testAction() method from the faces context, but I haven't been able to figure out how.
Any Ideas???

If I am understanding the problem correctly, inserting the following code will allow you to access the backing bean (monitor) and its methods... You may have to tweak it so it works with your own object.
          MonitorBean mb = (MonitorBean)FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().
               getApplicationMap().get("monitor");
          String action = mb.testAction();HTH,

    Hi,
    no there is not. However, in this case you can use vanilla JavaScript and register to the browser DOM to receive the event notification. If you rceive the notification you access the server Listener you put on the af:document component. This should work

  • How to clear the Managed Bean Values prior to load a JSF page

    Hello.
    I have a jsf page that contains fields that need to be cleared BEFORE the page is loaded.
    My managed bean where the fields are linked (Im using the value attribute) is in the SESSION scope because I need to control they values across a popup window and if I use request scope, my vectors that load objects like dataTable are cleared when I post the form.
    My question is :
    How I CLEAR all the values in the managed bean BEFORE the page is loaded ???

    Thanks in advance.

    Rogrio,
    You can do this with a PhaseListener. Just regiser a new listener for the RESTORE_VIEW phase, and implement the beforePhase method; you can do this in the backing bean's constructor, or somewhere elase. This is pretty much the same as the Page_Load event handler in .NET.

  • Calling managed bean method using ajax on jsp page loading

    Hello,
    I am using jsf1.1 i want to call managed bean method when page gets loaded using ajax.
    Thanks

    Use an ajaxical JSF framework, for example Ajax4jsf (part of RichFaces).
    But why don´t you just use the constructor of the bean class to do some stuff prior to page loading?

  • Populating managed bean

    Hi,
    ok, with Bill Dudney's help I managed to figure out how to properly save a bean's state into a database. Now, I'm still lost about initializing the bean with database data to start with.
    I thought I could use <managed-property> facility, but I need to be pulling data from a database based on a request parameter (employee id), so this method didn't quite work. Any recommendations?
    Thanks
    Dmitry

    Hi Dmitri,
    Glad I could help! Lets see if I can do it again. :-)
    Ok the scenario that is in my head based on what I read in your question is this.
    Form 1 has a place to type in your employee id (maybe not type but choose or whatever) and a submit button.
    On Form 2 you want to display the data related to the employee.
    I would approach this problem in this way.
    Form 1's submit actionRef would point to an action that would get the data from a Business Delegate (the J2EE Core Pattern) then use that data to populate the Employee managed bean. I typically have each page of my application backed by a 'Page' class that has the data for the form to read and write to as well as actions that are invoked from the page. (BTW if you are in Chicago you can come see me present these ideas @ the nofluffjuststuff.com event next weekend).
    Form 2's UIInput and/or UIOutput components valueRef's would referr to the EmployeePage managed bean's attributes to get the data that is would display.
    So in your faces-config.xml file you would have something like this
      <managed-bean>
        <description>
          This page manages searching for employees (Form 1 from the discussion above)
        </description>
        <managed-bean-name> empSearchPage </managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class> foo.baz.EmpSearchPage </managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope> session </managed-bean-scope>
      </managed-bean>
      <managed-bean>
        <description>
          This page manages showing employees (Form 2)
        </description>
        <managed-bean-name> empPage </managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class> foo.baz.EmpPage </managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope> session </managed-bean-scope>
      </managed-bean>
    ...Then in your search page you would have something like this
      <h:input_text id="empId" size="32"
                            valueRef="empSearchPage.empId"/>
      <h:command_button id="submit" type="SUBMIT"
                                       label="Search" commandName="search"
                                       actionRef="empSearchPage.searchAction"/>
    ...Then your emp display page has something like this
      <h:output_text id="empName" size="32"
                              valueRef="empPage.empName"/>
    ...Then in your empSearchPage.searchAction you would get the data from the Biz Delegate and use that to populate the empPage.
    I think this would be better explained with a picture but since I don't to ascii art... :-)
    I hope this helps.

  • Multiple Managed Beans

    Does it make sense to have multiple managed beans with a JSF app?
    Is there a tutorial for doing this in JSC?
    I can see the need for a larger app to have many managed beans at the request level and/or session level.
    If there isn't a way to do this then why are the beans called RequestBean1, SessionBean1, etc... How do I add RequestBean2?
    Thanks,
    Brent

    If you don't want to use managed property injection, then you can also use FacesContext#getELContext() ExternalContext#getRequestMap(), getSessionMap() or getApplicationMap() to find the managed beans in the desired scope. Also see this article part: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/communication-in-jsf.html#AccessingAnotherManagedBean].

  • ADF Faces and BC: Scope problem with managed bean

    Hi,
    I am using JDev 10.1.3 and ADF Faces with ADF BC.

    Brenden

    Hi pp,
    you need to create a managed (not backing) been set to session scope.
    You can call/reference the managed bean from your page.
    the backing bean is designed around a page lifecyle which is request oriented in it's design.
    This is a simple managed bean from faces-config.xml
    <managed-bean>
        <managed-bean-name>UserInfo</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>ecu.ethics.admin.view.managed.UserInfo</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
          <managed-property>
          <property-name>bindings</property-name>
          <property-class>oracle.adf.model.BindingContext</property-class>
          <value>#{data}</value>
        </managed-property>
      </managed-bean>and the getters and setters for bindings in your session scope managed bean:
        public void setBindings(BindingContext bindings) {
            this._bindings = bindings;
        public BindingContext getBindings() {
            return _bindings;
        }you can access the model from the managed bean using the the BindingContext if needed.
    also have a look at JSFUtils from the ADF BC SRDemo application, there are methods in this class such as resolveExpression which demonstrate how to get the values of items on your page programatically using expression language. You can use this in your managed bean to get values from your pages.

    Brenden

  • Automatically Expose UI Components Using an Existing Managed Bean

    I am trying to use the "Automatically Expose UI Components Using an Existing Managed Bean" in the Page Implementation" section when creating my jspx page but cannot figure out how to get the radio button enabled in order to use it.

    This list is what I need to display on the next page.
    I don't understand how to get the information from one page to the next. I did set the managed-bean-scope in the faces config to session.

    If you are using JDev 11.1.1.3, then in a managed bean method use the following to show or hide the popup:
    RichPopup.PopupHints hints = ...<set_the_hints>...;
    p1.show(hints);
    // or
    p1.hide();If you are using an older JDev 11g, then use the following:
       * Hides a popup.
       * @param popup Popup to be hidden.
      public static void hidePopup(RichPopup popup) {
        FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        String popupId = popup.getClientId(context);
        StringBuilder script = new StringBuilder();
        script.append("var popup = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent('").append(popupId).append("'); ")
              .append("if (popup.isPopupVisible()) { ")
              .append("popup.hide();}");
        ExtendedRenderKitService erks =
          Service.getService(context.getRenderKit(), ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
        erks.addScript(context, script.toString());
       * Shows a popup.
       * @param popup Popup to be shown
      public static void showPopup(RichPopup popup) {
        showPopup(popup, null);
       * Shows a popup alligned to the start of specified UI component.
       * @param popup Popup to be shown
       * @param component UI component to allign to
      public static void showPopup(RichPopup popup, UIComponent component) {
        FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        String popupId = popup.getClientId(context);
        String alignId = (component==null) ? null : component.getClientId(context);
        StringBuilder script = new StringBuilder();
        script.append("var popup = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponent('").append(popupId).append("'); ")
              .append("if (!popup.isPopupVisible()) { ")
              .append("var hints = {}; ");
        if (alignId!=null) {
          script.append("hints[AdfRichPopup.HINT_ALIGN_ID] = '").append(alignId).append("'; ")
                .append("hints[AdfRichPopup.HINT_ALIGN] = AdfRichPopup.ALIGN_AFTER_START; ");
        script.append("popup.show(hints);}");
        ExtendedRenderKitService erks =
          Service.getService(context.getRenderKit(), ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
        erks.addScript(context, script.toString());

    No you haven't, because
    Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.example.www.Sample_PortType a relevant class can still not be found and Java really is not going to lie to you; this class is not on your application's classpath so it is either missing or put in the wrong place. Note that missing classes can be caused by you forgetting to properly redeploying your application - its usually something silly like that. Figure out what you did wrong and correct your mistake.
    The fact that you have to mention that you "setup the classpath" is questionable; in web applications you don't touch the classpath at all. So what exactly did you do?

  • Can't get JSF to access managed bean methods from web page

    I'm using NetBeans 6.7.1 and Glassfish v2.1
    Having problems here can somebody please help? It is really
    frustrating because I have written apps like this before in fact I
    used one as a model to create an even simpler app and still can't get
    it to work. I ran it through the debugger and it stops in the
    constructor so it looks like the bean object is being created, but the
    setUid method and the testit method are not being entered when I click
    on the enter commandbutton. Can somebody PLEASE give me an idea as to
    what might be going on? I am totally stumped and this is holding up
    some important work I need to get done. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated:

    Why?
    Oh, in the future please post code in code blocks. Use the CODE button to get them. Use the Preview tab to see if anything went right.

  • Two managed beans in same jsp page

    Hello
    First this could be a stupid question, but i just can't find a solutions on this problem.
    I wondering that could it be a two managed beans in same jsp page, here is a example:
    index.jsp
    <t:commandLink disabled="#{listBean.currentPage == 1}" id="previous2" type="button" immediate="true" style="font-size:small" action="#{listBean.previousPage}">
    <h:outputText value="Edellinen" id="prev"/>
    </t:commandLink>
    <t:commandLink disabled="#{listBean.currentPage == listBean.totalPages}" id="next2" type="button" immediate="true" style="font-size:small;" action="#{listBean.nextPage}">
    <h:outputText value="Seuraava" id="next"/>
    </t:commandLink>
    then i have a dataTable like this:
    <t:dataTable value="#{customerListBean.customerBeans}"
    binding="#{customerListBean.dataTable}" preserveDataModel="true" style="text-align:left">
    My problem is that when i push a commandLink it doesn't refresh a dataTable. Does anyone know a solution here or is this just a impossible way to do it?
    Thanks for help.

    when i push nextPage (commandLink) it's call action
    and count a new range of dataset and after that it's
    calls a method which is declared on subClass and that
    method get a new data of database on given params.
    and put it on DataTable.
    So listBean is upper class and customerListBean
    extends on ListBeanNo, it doesn't work that way as you expected. You have created two independent instances. They doesn't communicate automatically with each other or so. Just use one CustomerListBean instance and call the inherited methods of ListBean on the #{customerListBean} managed bean instance.
