Stats above are taken within previous half hour of this post being typed.  I seem to be experiencing issues with IP Profile getting "stuck".  First two times I didn't know what an IP Profile was and simply called normal helpline numbers and each time spent 4 days on the phone to call centre 2/3 per day and constant connecting and disconnecting my system to follow various protocols.  End result for each was to have IP Profile reset with result that speeds returning to a healthy and acceptable 5-6Mb - to be honest anything above 4Mb is fine considering I am in rural village.
As of last night when i noticed hub resetting itself and then internet performing sluggishly I have checked IP and it is back to 0.14 which is exactly what it was in previous instances.
I really don't have the stomach to spend another 4 days going through motions just to get profile reset at the end of it and wondered if Mods can help firstly resetting the profile and perhaps also helping me understand why this keeps happening and why randomly - first instance was early July, then mid July then fine for weeks until now.
FYI I haven't got any known wiring issues or changed anything within the house to have caused any issues.
Much appreciated

Your IP profile will rise automatically once you have maintained 3/5days stable connection the mods cannot reset your IP Profile until you have 3days + stable connection as they need to see that first it is the disconnections that are causing your IP Profile to drop

  • IMac 2008 dying again for 3rd time in 2.5 years - same problem! what to do!

    Hi all
I've just made another appointment to take my iMac to an apple store for the 3rd time in it's short life.
I brought this iMac Oct 2008 and within a year the hard drive failed completely (spent a few months fighting with crashes/slowness/freezing etc until complete blue screen) - took it into the apple store and they replaced the drive... within a year (and several months of fighting again) it failed again... they replaced the drive again... for the last few months I have been fighting with the slowness/freezing and crashes more and more and now it's practically unusable and the blue screen comes up after it freezes longer than it's usual time)
it's taken me over 45 mins just to make the appointment and post on here from the last reboot!
What I want to know is... is this normal? will they just replace the drive again and this scenario keeps playing out on a yearly basis? (actually it's less than a year each time this happens) The last time the iMac was in they had it for 2 weeks yet didn't fix the screen (they replaced the glass the first time in yet nothing was wrong with it... now I have these giant whitish smears top and bottom... and gray bits) and I have a deadline coming up.
I'm a mature student due to start my final project for a BA (I'm in line for a first so I don't want to ruin things now) (my project is stop motion which takes a long time to do... not a two week job!) and the deadline is just five weeks away... but the iMac just can't be used for long now so I have no choice but to send it in ASAP!
anyone have any suggestions... the people in apple just say it's the hard drive but how can the hard drives be failing all the time... it has to be something else effecting them.
when I run the repair or disc analysis it says it's fine which it did the other times... the guy in apple had to do a different test with some gadget to show the problem (I'm not that computer literate ;-D)
gargh... I have bald patches over this thing!
this can't be normal... I really can't afford to buy another computer.. I would like to finish my BA as well

I rang apple and they said it was likely to happen again as this was the 3rd time so they will be replacing the iMac - yay!! the thought of arranging a cab (I dont' drive and I'm not carrying it on the tube or bus!) and then a week or two later back again... then the same issue again and again was just depressing.
hopefully I won't be without a computer for too long - they have to pick up my old iMac and then arrange for the new one to be sent so might take a week at least.
New one will be a 27" 1TB HD, 4gb ram... only has one 800 firewire port but I think I can join my two firewire drives together so shouldn't be an issue... but I'll just be glad to not fight with my computer.. took 5 hours for a simple powerpoint presentation - I'm really not that slow!!
oh... and wireless keyboard and magic mouse - I spilt whisky on my keyboard and it's not been the same since.. so all new shiny computer on the way soon.. yay!
I'm very relieved... I would have taken the same specs but I guess they don't do that but the extra specs will be very nice.
    :-D

  • I lost my contacts, texts etc after syncing my phone to itunes for first time since 2012, now all I have is info. starting from 2012.  Is there any way to recover the contacts, texts etc that I have lost for the last 2 years? So ticked off at apple!

I am hoping that someone can help me understand how it can be so easy to lose the last 2 years data on an iphone by synching to itunes for the first time since 2012?  If this happens from itunes automatically overwriting your phones system why would'nt there be warnings and red sirens going off on your phone?  Can somone please let me know if this lost data is recoverable and maybe even let me know how to recover it?
    Thank you

Glad to help!  The reply you got was very generic and didn't completely address your questions.
Basically, all it said was to restore your backup.  What I addressed was your query about how and why this happened. iTunes did give you prompts and warnings. And if you'd used iTunes back in 2012, then you'd have lost much less data when you made the incorrect selection.
Do you have an iCloud backup?  Were you backing up your device at all?
I just found it amusing that you were 'ticked off at Apple' when Apple didn't cause this problem.  You did.
    Have a great day!

  • IP Profile stuck for three weeks

For the last few years we had fantastic speeds of ~7mbps and apart from a blip at the end of last year where a broken
Home Hub 2.0 caused our IP Profile to drop to 0.2mbps we've had no problems until now. We live only 500m (as the crow flies) from the phone exchange and the cable length can't be more than 1km.
Around three weeks ago I noticed our speeds had dropped to around 2mbps, confirmed with speedtest.net. I tried out the bt speedtester and noticed our profile had dropped to 2mbps. I assumed there just a problem with the exchange or something along those lines and decided to leave it a while hoping it would increase. Its been nearly three weeks since then and nothing has changed. I've tried restarting the router twice, although I was reluctant incase it caused the profile to drop further and this has changed nothing, even imediately after restart.
I thought I'd check with the forums first rather than calling support as I've never found their help very, well, helpfull.

I notice your noise margin is high, it's usually around 6.1db. If it's any help, have look at my recent thread. In the end it came down to problems with my local cabling which, once replaced, solved the problem.
BT are able to reset the line if the profile is stuck at a low level but try the 17070 number option 2 for a Quiet Line test and see what happens and point out to BT if it's noisy.
I have to put on record that it seems to me tha BT are very reluctant to send an engineer, only as a last resort. In my own recent trouble, which lasted the better part of 2 weeks, I was given a variety of "explanations" for the trouble, including telling me my router was incompatible, that there wasn't enough "bandwidth" set within my router (which was nonsense), resetting the line which temporaily improved things but didn't last, and only after many calls and complaints did they finally cave in and send an engineer. They kept insisting that the problem seemed to be all within my property, which it wasn't.
They could have sent an engineer days ago and spared me an awful lot of wasted time and phone calls.
as the OP is on the max speed for adslmax the high noise margin is good and cannot be reduced to increase speed.  this gives noise margin in hand which will help give good connection when line upgraded to 21CN
high noise margin is not always the sign of a problem

  • IP Profile Stuck for 3 days

After an awful fault (noise on the line) that required 3 visits to clear - thanks to the pregnant BT engineer that was far more capable then her male colleagues - my IP profile has now been stuck at 135kbs for 72 hours and counting.
Should it have increased by now and if so, what's the best way to get it fixed?

    Solved!

your connection time is only 2days not 3 according to your router so still another day at least as it can take 3/5 days.  some happen soone but that does not looks like you are in that category
your noise margin is still very high but due to your proximity to the exchange it waill alwayd be higher than 6.  should drop though as you should have an 8mb connection.
if your connection in your router shows 3+days then conatct the mods for assistance  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

I have tried restoring my I-phone at least a dozen time and it keeps freezing at the Restoring Iphone Firmware step.. • Problems with my Apple id since 2 weeks: i received for 3 times a mail from Apple who said: you're password was reseted but i didn't asked for reset. So i have to re-change my password again. How can i be sure my account is not hackd

    hi everyone,
since 2 weeks: i received for 3 times a mail from Apple who said: "you're password was reseted..." but i didn't asked for reset. So i have to re-change my password again. How can i be sure my account is not hacked ?
    Best regards.

I'll add my problem to this list as it sounds similar. First a little background. This is a problem I think we will see from a lot of long term users, so here is my story. When .Mac was first made available I signed up and was given a new apple ID [email protected] At this point I already had an Apple ID that I was using for just music purposes (apps didnt't exist yet) but was told by apple I would have to give it up. They could not merge IDs and would not change them. The end result was getting a new Apple ID and having to redownload all my purchased music over P2P or burn it and  re-rip to remove the DRM. Fast forward a bit to a time when Gmail is getting bigger. I'm invited to try it out and I decide that I'm going to stop paying $100 for email, as I never really used he other features iDisk, photo sharing etc, and syncing contacts, calendars and mail was just as easy through gmail. Now years later we have iCloud. I have to sign in with my outdated .mac ID, at this point I have for too many apps/music/shows to drop that ID. When I sign in with that .mac Apple ID I get the automated iCloud message telling me my new email address is [email protected] However when I go to send email from my iCloud account it is using .mac as the sending address and the mail will not go through. I can't change it in the mail app or in settings. I'm kind of at a loss as to where to go next. I'm stuck with a defunct email address as a username that is more or less a key to thousands of dollars worth of content, and a new email address that won't function and nobody at Apple can press the right buttons to help clean it up. Some kind of system should be in place to change a user ID. Maybe once a year or once every other year. **** at this point I would even pay a one time fee just for my user name to be rid of that old .mac extension.

  • EXTREMELY slow synching and having to reinstall, for the 3rd time!

Recently, I got an update for iTunes. I installed it and it said "Would you like windows to restart now or would you like to manually restart later?" I clicked on that I would manually restart. Well, I had computer problems so I had to hold down the power button and restart. (This is unhealthy and should only be done in an emergency!) When I turned it back on, I got an alert that said "Unable to open iTunes, please uninstall then reinstall." So I did. This is about the 3rd time this has happened. Now my iPod Video (80g) syncs majorly slow. Like when I say majorly I mean about 30min-1hr major. If you could help me in any way, that would be awesome!
+EDIT: Also, when I'm listening to my music it will stop at random parts of the song, any idea why? It has done this ever since it came out of the box!+
Message was edited by: Ashleigh Martini

So, since it syncs really slowly, make sure that it's not a USB issue with the iPod. Make sure it's the only USB device plugged in since the others might be taking power, and then try to get the iPod plugged in directly to the back of the computer to make sure it's plugged into your more powerful ports.
If that doesn't do it, it might be confused with a network drive and following that article helps you change the drive letter.
Also make sure to disable any third party software that might be interfering with it, go through this article if you've got XP or this one if you're using Vista.
Hope I was of some help,
    iTunes Helper.

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6.  I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto.  However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup.  It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box?  If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
