IPad app for college.

Hello! First post here
I own the iPad 2 64GB, and I'm planning on using it in class for viewing and annotating PDFs (and sometimes Power Point files), making quick notes and drawing (I'm an engineer student, so lots of equations)
I've been searching for apps, and I've come up with these ones: iAnnotate, PDF Expert and GoodReader, but I fail to see any difference between them, as all three assure that they are "the best pdf app out there".
Could you please enlighten me, or give me any useful advice? Thank you!

Thank you for the answers guys!
@Meg St._Clair, One of the drawbacks that is keeping me from buying everything I mentioned is the price... I consider it is spending money on apps that do basically the same, so I was kinda looking for some tips on the one I would use the most.
@BobTheFisherman, I am aware of the list you've made and I completely agree with you. However, I was thinking on using the iPad for taking notes and viewing slides in class, while leaving everything else (creating papers, projects etc) to my laptop.

  • 16 GB ipad mini for college

    Hello,
I'm considering getting a 16 GB ipad mini for college this year. My question is, would 16GB be enough? I plan on using the ipad mostly for note taking. Thanks!

    Hi,
Because you'll be in college, I suggest you get as much space as is possible!!!
The thing is, many, many people, once they start using an ipad and learn all they can use it for, end up needing more storage space on their ipads. And you cannot increase space. So go for the most you can afford.
Our younger son is in college. He got a 64 gb, only thought he'd need only a  32 gb, and he's used more than the 32 gb in a matter of months. He can store text books, documents, etc., financial newspapers (required for classes) and more movies and music than he thought he'd need. (Videos will take up space quickly.) So he's very happy he got the 64 gb. And you actually start out with less than 16 gb because some space is used up by apps and programs that come pre-installed and are necessary for your ipad mini to work.
If the cost is a strong consideration for you, take a look in the Apple Refurb store on Apple's website.Last year we bought two refurbished ipads from the Apple Refurb store on the Apple website. They are great!
They come with new covers (front and back,)  a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty. Now with Apple care + ($99.00) you can get more coverage that will also cover accidental damage like broken glass and wet ipads (3 incidents of damage.) I think it's well worth it. PLEASE do not buy a refurb anywhere else!
If you planned on buying a new 16 gb mini, it costs $279.00 In the refurb store. The refurbished 32 gb mini is $359.00 - twice the space and only $30.00 more than you planned to spend on a new 16 gb. A refurbed 64 gb will cost $110.00 more than a new 16 gb - four times as much space. They are only sold via the website and come in a brand new box.
So if I were you, I'd go for the certified refurbished ipad from the Apple website. Please note that the different colors and sizes come and go in the refurb store, so when you see what you want, act on it. Delivery is fast.
    Hope this helps.

By sharing the same Amazon account on each device. You may also have to use the same Apple ID and password.

Anyone having trouble with iPad app for Comcast?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—again, the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Ipad apps for video

Does anyone know when Verizon is planning on issuing an ipad app for watching videos purchased from their site???

The Verizon media manager lets you watch flex view vod that you purchased, but I prefer using the network apps myself. Hbo go Cinemax on demand, epic has an app, NBC, abc, etc. TNT, tbs espn. Netflix and I really like my Hulu plus for tv series They all have apps and give you some stuff until fios gets on board with streaming live tv and your dvr content from your iPad. They have some pretty cool YouTube videos about it.

  • I am a college student trying to decide if I should get a laptop of an Ipad 3 for college work. Which one would be better suited?

Please specify pros and cons if possible.

Other posters here made good points. A laptop is pretty much a necessity.
Many colleges require a laptop for class, so you might want to check with the school. My younger son, starting his junior year in college, recently got an e-mail saying he must have a laptop for class. Other groups were required to buy a netbook directly from his university last year with pre-loaded programs.
You might also be required to have microsoft word, excel, etc. as my sons have to. If you get a laptop, and need/want microsoft word, etc., you might want to wait until you get to school and find two others in the same position with same type of laptop (pc or mac) and split the family pack. You'll save a lot of money.
Also, neither an ipad or a netbook (they all crawl and do not come with much memory - we have two) has a dvd drive, and that could make a big difference to you.
An ipad is fun and very portable. If you can get both, good for you. Enjoy!
We were pc users until less than two years ago. Our computers were fried by a microsoft security update. We now have two imacs and a macbbok pro. They are so much easier - no more viruses frying hard drives - at least three each on our son's laptops, replacing $80.00 adapters, etc. We have saved money because of this. My older son (just graduated) has the 13" macbook pro 2010 and still loves it - incredibly fast, reliable and long lasting battery. We do not plan on using pc's any more.
Many countries have the student discount where on a 13"macbook pro you get a $100. gift card for the app/itunes store and another $100. off the price of the macbook pro (so $1099.00). So when you're deciding on a laptop, you might take this student pricing into account. You must buy directly from an Apple store, Apple online or your Apple approved college bookstore. You don't need the retina display version, the added cost, or the additional weight of a larger model. With savings, you'll actually be paying $999.00. Also, if you buy apps for your macbook pro, those apps can be used on up to five authorized family imacs or macbook pros. Given the prices of some apps, that can be  a great savings.
On the other hand, pc laptops keep improving (?) and might have sales because at at this point, they want to sell off the windows 7 versions before the new windows os comes out.
Whatever your decision, enjoy your new computer and college.

  • IPAD App for SAP without Middleware

    Hi experts,
I am new about mobility topics and I am involved in a new project that consists in developing iPAD apps using data from SAP ECC and saved into the tablet.
In my business scenario there will be about 1.000 users that need to synchronize data from SAP ECC with the following characteristics:
    Volumes
Basically there are 2 type of data to store into the iPAD:
Clients assigned in Portfolio (about 1500 clients per User to download)
    Static data (i.e. configuration table/parameter)
Let's assume that the size of data exchanged is about 3 Megabyte
    Frequency
The initial upload has to be made once a year and thereafter once a day it should be checked for updates
At the very present time we are supposing to use web services calling SAP ECC in order to retrieve and store data.Is there any particular drawback in doing it without a Middleware?
I have heard about Sybase, but I cannot find the real advantage since it seems to be another database where data can be replicated into it. As for the device management console, my client is adopting yet AirWatch.
I have also heard about SAP Netweaver Gateway but I cannot catch the real advantage into using it.
    Thanks
    E.

    Hi Emanuele,
In your case, SUP would provide the development tools, framework and APIs to easily handle the authentication, synchronization etc. You wouldn't need to define your own synchronization mechanism, it's in the product. Now if the updates are only sent from the server to the mobile devices, this shouldn't be to difficult to handle even without SUP.
You could easily create REST Web Services using Gateway and then consume them using the mobile devices. You don't want to consume SOAP Web Services using a mobile application, trust me. You could do this using the ICF (Internet Communication Framework) to  achieve this but again it would be easier with Gateway.
You don't necessarily need SUP or Gateway to create only a simple mobile application. But then if your customer is happy with their first mobile application, they'll want more. And then products such as SUP or Gateway can make the difference. These products prodvide a standard development environment, tools to manage the apps and the users etc. With multiple mobile apps connected to multiple back-ends with more and more users, you'll need a middleware to manage all this and make sure the performance is great.
Usually people don't use SUP or Gateway for their first mobile application but then they start to see the benefits of mobility and they want more. And then they start to realize the benefits of these products and they understand that a real mobile strategy has to be defined etc.
    Regards,
    Pierre

  • Ipad app for displaying pdf bookmarks

I have the new 3rd generation iPad and I'm looking for an iPad app that will display bookmarked PDF's in a manner similar to how they are displayed on my computer (i.e., bookmarks listed in the navigation panel on the left side of the screen and the PDF document to the right of that).  I have the iBooks app but it only displays the bookmarks in the Table of Contents and doesn't show the document itself simultaneously.  I also have the free Adobe Reader app; however when I tap the bookmarks icon at the bottom of the app it only shows a few bookmarks even though the document contains many more (lately it also seems to crash whenever I try to use it).
The PDF documents I review on a monthly basis are fairly large (2,000+ pages with 200+ bookmarks per document).  The ability to do some basic annotations would also be nice but not essential since I would do any serious annotation work to the file in Adobe Acrobat Professional on my computer.  Obviously, there are numerous PDF apps available but I can't tell from their descriptions if they will display the bookmarked files in the manner I want.  Any suggestions from users who have actual experience with various apps would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hey,
I know this is not a reply to your question but I just wanted to ask you about a problem I encountered while  mail merging. The steps I follow: Create a mail merge in Microsoft Word using the necessary steps ( I am pretty sure that they are correct) and  then press the  Finish & Merge button. The messages are then in my configured Outlook's outbox. The problem is that they have been in the outbox for a whole night ad not even one message got sent.
Please reply if you kow the answer.
    Thanks.

  • Is there an iPad app for photos that allows you to see them organized by labeling as 1, 2, 3 etc or a, b, c etc in the order you wish instead of by date taken? Thanks.

Is there an iPad app suitable for iPad mini that allows you to order your photos by 1,2,3, etc or a, b, b, in the title rather than ordering by date taken? This would keep them in a sequence you want instead of displaying randomly. Thanks.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • IPAD APP for mail merge ?

    Hi all,
    hope you can help...
We currently go out to clients and get the information for quotations. We come back enter information such as Client, address, name, price etc into MS Excel and then mailmerge it with a template within MS word. This produces the quote and we email the pdf across to customer.
Is there such an app for the IPAD that could do you same? I would like to pre enter the information I would know eg client, address etc... Then onsite type prices, this would then (then a templete) produce a quote which could be emailed before I leave.
    Thanks in advance for advice.

  • IPad app for Aperture or how to sync edits between devices

I apologize if there is a topic on this.  I tried searching and couldn't find the answer to what I'm looking for.  Perhaps I'm not using the right wording, so here goes....
I know there isn't an app for Aperture, yet I sure hope Apple comes out with one.   I often import photos from my Aperture library to my Ipad and sometimes I want to use some of these fun photo programs on my ipad to use with my pictures.   Let's say after I add some effects to the photos on my iPad, I want to sync them back to Aperture.  Is there some kind of 3rd party app that allows these changes to be synced back to the photos in the library on my iMac in Aperture?
I'm not sure if cloud based edits is really what I'm looking to do here?  I know that with Lightroom you can use an app where all of your edits done on your Ipad can sync to update the Lighroom on say, your iMac.  I really, really am considering switching to Lightroom simply for this feature.  Honestly, I'd much rather sit on my couch with my ipad to do all of my keyword and tagging, etc of photos than sitting at my desk.
I hope I'm making sense here.  Thanks for all of your help.

    Hi treetopguy2028,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are referring to when you say that iMessages does not sync. If you are talking about just iMessages proper (iMessage chat messages to other Mac/iOS users, not including SMS/MMS text messages from non-iOS phones), you may want to check that your Apple ID and phone number are correctly linked and configured, as outlined in the following article under the section labeled Use iMessage and FaceTime with multiple devices:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
If you are referring to syncing all messages in iMessage, including SMS/MMS text messages, that would be a function of the new Continuity feature in iOS 8. In that case, this article may be more helpful (Note: Continuity requires iOS 8 on your devices and Yosemite on your Mac):
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support

  • IPad App for Photography Studio

Hi guys, I have been needing some help with making an iPad app, all I need it to do is connect to my XServe and show the clients the photos we have already finished, I know it is possible but I am fairly new to app making, plz help!

No need to create an app and no need for Xserve. Two solutions. One, rely on the iTunes/cable to transfer the photos to the free iPad Photos app. Two, rely on MobileMe to automagically transfer the photos to the free Gallery app.
Both solutions are implemented by copying the photos to iPhoto on your Mac.
"Automagically" is slightly innacurate - you do have to select which albums will be transferred.
