Iphone 4 randomly came up with a grey screen showing 'ios6' and then said 'connect to iTunes'. However iTunes won't pick the device up and states there is an error with the device?
My iPhone was working fine yesterday and then showed a grey screen with the message 'ios6'. When I tried to use the phone it came up with the error message 'connect to iTunes'. When I got home from work I did this, at first iTunes could not detect the device and then it suggested a system restore. Once the restore had completed I selected the language, country/region and then came back to the same error message 'connect to iTunes'. When I tried to connect the device iTunes could not detect it and stated that there was a problem with the device.
I have telephoned my network provider to request a replacement device on my insurance but they have said they cannot authorise until I have had the fault diagnosed my Apple. Only problem is there are no genius appointments free until Friday!
Any help would be massively appreciated!

I just received some horrifying news from Adobe about my production suite. I just FINALLY learned today that what I've been trying to do for over a week now - CAN'T be done because of compatability issues involving updates of both Adobe & Microsucks Winders!!! I sincerely hope this is not your problem. Mine is ALMOST HOPELESS!! Being in this HOPELESS Obamma economy,,,, leaves NO STIMULUS in which to currently upgrade everything that needs upgraded for me to fully use my INVESTMENT in Adobe Suite - sad, horrible and SICKENING!!!

Hi, I need some serious help immediately. I have been using an external hard disc to watch movies and stuff on my MacBook. However last night I removed the external hard disc accidentally without closing the programs that were still using the data from the hard disk and hence the complete MacBook got hanged and nothing responded. I tried using command Q to shut down the program buy it didn't help either. So finally I gave up and shut down the MacBook manually by pressing the power on/off button.
However when I tried restarting my MacBook I faced a serious problem. The start up won't boot beyond the grey screen showing a folder sign with a question mark sign in it .. I just don't know what to do. Somebody please help me and guide me through this problem

AJIf you try booting your Mac holding down the Option key, you should see the icon for Macintosh HD. Try selecting that to boot. If you can get in that way, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select your Mac HD, then click Restart.
If you can't see the Mac HD, the volume may indeed need repair as Niel said. -

As I was using my laptop it suddenly died on me. I tried turning it on several times but I couldn't get passed the grey screen with the Apple logo on it and a loading bar underneath. At this time I could access the Recovery Disc Assistant or the Mac OS X utilities (not sure what it is called). I partintioned the Hard Drive into one partition and ran a disc check. Everything was OK so i rebooted the laptop. The grey screen showed up, but this time instead of getting an Apple logo i got a blinking folder with a question mark on it. I could no longer access the Recovery Disc Assistant and I'm stuck. What really ***** is that I have IB exams tomorrow and some of my crucial notes are on this laptop... Please help.If you partitioned the drive, you deleted all the data on it. Restore from your most recent backup.

i bought a 2nd hand iMac 21'5, 2010. First I installed Mavericks and entered a password which I forgot, and did not activate my appleid at that time.
when trying to install a new bought program, I had to enter the sys adm acoount password which I had forgotten.
TRied the options found on internet, but did not have a mavericks startup disk. downloaded Mavericks again and then tried to creatie a startpunt disk. did not work as mavericks immediately started with the installation.
Got the original Mac os X cd from the person I brought the iMac from, but now found that I cannot use the CMD r option. then my Mac opens with a grey screen, a lock and only allow a password input.
None of the startup options (eg d) are working anymore and or end up in the grey startup screen asking a password or just ingenomen the request and starts the Mac and is fully operational without full access to the systeem functions (as these require the systeem password which I forgotten). However my Mac still starts and I use mail and internet Ans all other installed programs. but I cannot create an account as I do not know the sys adm. password.
When using terminal and give the command mountain -uw / I receive the reply:
GetMasterBlock: Error 13 opening /dec/rdisk0s2
mount-hfs: Operation not permitted.
CAn somebody help me how to reset my system, even if this means I loose all data? I bought all software in the iStore, so asume I can re-install it anyway.Ask the person you bought it from for the firmware password and supply that into the box. You'll then be able to use the Option key shortcut and can get into the recovery partition to reset the administrator password.

I use Safari 4.1.3 and whenever I go to download something, a new tab comes up with a grey screen. It doesn't load anything, it just stays there. How do I fix this? And when I go to Activity, it says in red letters plug-in cancelled? Please help?

Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Safari folder.
Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.

It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:

Usually means you don't have a bootable system installed so the OS is looking for a bootable system on the network.
Does the computer eventually start up shortly after the globe appears? If so then open Startup Disk preferences, select your boot volume and click on the Restart button. If this is not the case then you need to reinstall Snow Leopard.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -
The image came up on my screen saying that I need to connect my iPod to iTunes, but I have a passcode, so it won't allow me to. And I want to try and turn it off, but my touch screen doesn't seem to be working either, so I can't even turn it off since you need to "slide to power off." HELP! I'm leaving on Thursday morning for six and a half weeks, and I absolutely need my iPod with me. I was just at the Apple store today for problems I was having with ANOTHER product, and I don't really want to drive all the way out to where my nearest store is (which is not very near) if I can figure this out at home. Now it's allowing me to reboot (hold down power button and home button and restart), but every time it just comes up to the same thing: the connect to iTunes page. Which is not possible. And I refuse to restore my iPod. PLEASE HELP.

You need to start over with Music. On the iPhone Music screen uncheck sync music. Also, on the Summary screen uncheck "Manually manage music and videos", then sync and it should clear off your phone.
Next, choose the music you want to sync. If you want to fit more on check "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This will reduce quality slightly, but it won't be noticable unless you are using $300 headphones. -
My Macbook Pro won't start up. All I get is a grey screen showing a grey folder bearing a question mark. Help please!
The folder with the question mark indicates that the machine is unable to find a bootable volume on startup. This is typically caused by one of three things:
1.) The internal HD has failed or is failing and needs to be replaced
2.) There is significant directory damage to the volume that requires repairing in order to boot
3.) Some other internal component failure between the HD and logic board
I'd ranked them in the order that is most common (from my personal experience). Boot to the OS X Recovery tool and attempt to repair the startup volume. If that fails or the drive is not detected it's usually a tell tale sign of a failed HD. -
I took a lot of pictures and video on my recent trip to Ireland. Now I am trying to download the photos and videos from my iphone to my mac - iphoto. I have tried 3 times and each time (at a different point) I get a message telling me that there was an error with one of my photos and it wont load the pictures. Help!!
Try using Image Capture to download to a folder on the Desktop. If there's a damaged file on the iPhone that's preventing the download you can isolate it with Image Capture and then delete it from the iPhone.
