IPhone 4 "synched with *another* library"?

I lost my iTunes library when I upgraded to 10.6 but, followed Apple's instructions & reinstalled the library. Now, my iPhone won't synch with iTunes & I get a message saying tht it is "synched with another library." I don't want to lose my music again. Any ideas?

All of your music is on your computer.   Sync it to the iphone.

How can I synch my ipod & iphone music (purchased from itunes on my old laptop) to my new laptop? I keep getting the same message on my itunes on my new laptop: " The ipod/Iphone is synched with another itunes library. An ipod/iphone can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would you like to do - Erase and Synch or Transfer Purchases?" What do I do?
    A couple of other items:
    1) I am guessing Apple does not keep a history of all my music purchases? As I did not have my entire library backed-up anywhere, and relying on the music I have on my ipod and my iphone as my only source of itunes music....I have lost over 500 songs!!!
    2) I used to have an Apple account under another account name, and since have switched to a new account name. Is there anyway to find the history of purchases from my old Apple account name and transfer these over to my new account name and onto my new laptop?
I hope someone can help, I am having a very difficult time trying to obtain answers. Angie

The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device.  Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click  File>Transfer Purchases

  • "The iPhone is Synced with another library. Do you want to erase..."

My itunes library has a lot of music from my iPad. I want to move that music to my iPhone by managing my music "manually", but it says ""The iPhone is Synced with another library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
I read that I have to back it up, then go ahead and erase the phone, then you can add the music from the library to your phone. Is this true? Will it work?
I have backed up the phone to iCloud, but I'm worried still. How can I be SURE that I'll get everything back when I restore the phone after erasing it?
    Thanks!

I'm afraid the LU suffix is a new one on me.
As long as you have all of the content in your library then that remove and sync warning shouldn't cause any loss of data, but it shouldn't be happening every time. It may pay to take the following steps to reset the connection between the two,
    Backup device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.
Again, this assumes all content on the device is in your library. If that isn't the case see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first.

Trying to add playlist to iPhone. The current music on my iPhone is synced with another library. How do I add my playlist without erasing all of the music currently on my iPhone?

iPhone is designed to sync with one computer only, if you sync with another, all your content will be erased and replaced by whatever is on that computer.

  • IPhone synched with another library

Had to restore my pc back to factory settings. Now iTunes is stating that my iPhone is synced with another iTunes library.
If I do erase and synch with this library, will it erase my apps and photos or just music?

  • IPhon 5 music is gone, was supposedly backed up in iTunes, not there. Have musiic on my ipad, and want to synch to phone,, when I plug into PC, Apple says ipad is synched with another library? How do I get music back to phone?

I had to do a restore on the iPhone - thanks Verizon. Music had been backled up to iTunes via computer and cloud. But it's gone. The music exists on my iPads as well. So when I hook the iPad up to an authorized computer it says it's synched to another library.  ??? How do I get it synched to the iPhone? I have ONE account...don't get it

Music is not included in the iPhone backup, because it is already on your computer, so why duplicate it?
Music can only be synced to one computer at a time, so if you change computers the contents of the iOS device will be replaced by what is on the latest computer.
If you have an iCloud backup and your music is saved to iCloud you can restore it by going to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. When this completes it will ask if you want to restore your iCloud content.

  • I recently moved some of my older tv series purchases to an external hard drive as my iTunes library hard drive was getting full.  Now, when I connect my iPhone and iPad to iTunes, I get the message that my iphone is synced with another library! Help!

I didn't rename my iTunes library or anything.  How can I sync with iTunes without erasing all my apps, app data and settings/messages etc on the iPhone/iPad?

If you moved your iTunes library by simply copying it to another drive, you may not be able to access your music even if you reconnect to that library, you may get a lot of "not found" errors because the music is not where the library thinks it should be. First thing to do is put it back where it was.  Then reconnect it. Then follow the steps in this link:

  • Iphone is synced with another library

My computer broke so I had the hard drive replaced. How do I sync my iPhone with my new hard drive without wiping my iphone?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
The only way you can do is to get a third part software to extract those music from your device over to your PC.
A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • My iPhone is now saying it is synced with another library - despite me not changing my iPhone or iTunes since I last synced - related to downtime (2 June?)

I synced my iPhone a couple of days ago no problems, and I always 'manually manage' my stuff between iTunes and my iPhone 4.
Just now I plug in to drop a new album onto my phone, and the 'manually manage music and videos' box is unchecked (nobody else uses my machine, no other devices plugged into it) and when I check it, it tells me my iPhone is synced with another library.
The only thing I have changed that I can think of is my iTunes password - while working out what was causing the downtime yesterday (error 5002 with the store, etc.)
    Is it related?

I'm sorry, I am having a smilar problem and my contacts have already been deleted because of it. I recently reloaded my OS as my computer was having problems. I'm using Vista. I had to reload itunes and when I attempted to sync my phone it said my iphone was synced with another itunes library. I'm not sure if I messed up and created two apple ID's. When I log into apple and attempted to see if I had any other accounts it did not show any, but when I try the other name I thought I had used first, it said that account had been locked for security reasons. I actually hit the "accept" button by mistake and it deleted everything so I unplugged it really quick and all I lost was my contacts. How on earth do I fix this? I can plug my iphone in and sign on, but if I attempt to change anything it gives that same message.
    Thank you
    Brandy

  • Iphone thinks its synced with another library...???

i always used my iphone with my PC, which has only one library. I don't keep any music in the library anyway - after transferring music to iphone, i delete it from the library since i don't use iTunes to listen to music. i've been doing it this way for years and years, managing everything on it manually through the "manually manage music and videos" option.
Now, suddenly after I connect my iPhone, I can't add anything to it, can't delete anything from it, can't change or edit ANYTHING... all I can do is listen to the songs on it on iTunes, that's it. I also noticed "manually manage music and videos" was no longer checked, and when I check it and click apply it tells me that the iPhone is synced with another library and I need to delete everything on it to sync it with this library... but NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I don't know why this is... nothing changed with the computer or hardware. Tried restoring my iPhone back up from 5 months ago, didn't help (only made it worse), I don't know what to do.... I don't want to delete everything and put it back again after... does anyone know how to fix this?
note: I can add music through the "autofill" option but that's it... I can't create/delete playlists, delete songs, edit song info, or anything else, it's driving me crazy...
If anyone had this similar issue and managed to get it fixed, please let me know... this is driving me crazy... definitely my last Apple product.

I'm not sure exactly why the setting for Manually Manage Music changed, however, when you change from Sync music to Manually managing music, you will get that error message because it will remove all music from the device so you can manually manage it. Your other issue is the fact that you have removed all of your music from the library. When you restore the phone, or update the software, at times the phone will need to resync your music because that is not contained in your backup, just a setting about the music. If your device tried to resync music, it would find there is none. Also, I'm not so sure why you cannot delete music, but I'm guessing that since you say all you can do is listen in iTunes is that you cannot listen using the Music App?
To be honest, I'm not sure if there is an answer to this, least ways one that you would like to hear. I would see if anyone that manually manages music on their device can provide better information. This is the best that I can say.

  • New computer-keep getting iphone synched with another itunes library

    So here's the situation.
I got a new computer the other day and put Itunes on it. I hooked my iphone up to it and authorized my new computer. Seemed like everything was fine, that was until I went into devices and clicked on music. I then went to synch music and then hit apply and get the whole "the device is synched with another itunes/library, do you want to erase the iphone and synch with this itunes library.
I still have my old computer (Which is in pieces on the floor) and realized today that I didn't deauthorize it. Am I in trouble here?

As far as your iPhone is concerned, it is a new iTunes Library. Let it go thru it's steps (including making a backup and restoring from the backup) and all should be fine.
You can authorize up to 5 computers, so you are fine if you're under this limit. When you do reach it, you can deauthorise all computers (even without having access to them), then authorize the one you are using. So you are not in trouble here, either.
Learn how to authorize or deauthorize your computer with your Apple ID.

  • Why does it tell me my ipad is synched with another itunes library and wants to erase the thing when I want to synch it?  I haven't synched it with any other mac but my own.

why does it tell me my ipad is synched with another itunes library and wants to erase the thing when I want to synch it?  I haven't synched it with any other mac but my own.

    Hi Lisa,
I know from experience that this must be a frustrating situation for you especially if you don't want to loose the music/video content that is currently on your ipod. Unfortunately though you may have to consider re-syncing it as it thinks its currently synced with another computer.
If you bought any music that is on the ipod through itunes you can opt to right click the ipod in itunes and 'transfer purchases' if you authorise your library in the 'Store' menu in itunes. Some reasons for this happening may include some of the following:
Deleting and reinstalling your itunes on the computer.
Removing the account you had on the computer you used itunes in and making a new one. (User account, eg: Lisa).
    Changing computers in the past.
A friend or family member syncing it on their computer to give you there music.
A sign of a failing iPod.
Alternatively you can opt to not sync it and keep the music that is on your ipod there but this means you will never be able to update your ipod.
    Hope this helps!

  • Computer says: "The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on "localhost". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"

    Hi,
I just bought an I-Phone 5S. When plugging it to my Macbook for the 1st time to copy music from my I-Tunes, this message comes up: "The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on “localhost". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
Pls help. I'm always so scared I can loose all my contacts if i am to answer "yes". Also, why am I being told the IPhone is synced with another ITunes Library when it's litterally not been connected to any at all? I dont get it.
    What shall I do?
    Thanks for your help,
    Myzin.

This would indicate that you bought a Used iPhone and/or have Connected it to another iTunes Library.
By design an iPhone can only sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

  • "The iphone is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTune's library?" error message.

I have an iPhone 3GS and have never added any music to the device as I had an iPod. The iPhone and iPod are hooked up to the same computer and same iTunes account. My iPod recently broke and now I am trying to add some of my music to the iPhone but I get a message that says: The iphone is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTune's library?
I have never had the iPhone hooked up to another iTunes account. I don't want to accept and say yes and lose all the info on my iPhone.
    Any tips or recomme

I'm having the same problem after upgrading my iPhone 3Gs to iOS 5 (and upgrading iTunes to 10.5). I noticed after doing this the ring tone I was using for incoming calls was no longer on the phone. Before the upgrade I was syncing ringtones with iTunes without problems. My contacts and apps still still sync as before, but when I try to enable syncing for ring tones in iTunes, I get the message reported at the beginning of this thread. Any risk of losing anything if I go ahead and enable ring tone syncing? The message is definitely misleading.
