IPhone and iCal Server?

Hey Folks,
I am terribly sorry if this has already been posted but I just want to air my disappointment.
The small business I work for has spent countless hours and dollars implementing iCal Server on our server and shared calendars on all of our computers.
To this day, there is no confirmation that the new iPhone 2.0 firmware will talk with Leopard Server or even Apple's own iCal Server.
They are promoting the crap out of exchange. Is Apple forcing me to switch back to PC?
-abartjc

oh no!
we bought iphones and mobileme-accounts for our whole little company. also mac osx server ... only to find out now that ...
the ical server calendars and also subscribed calendars are definitely not syncing over mobile me. it works with oldschool cabled sync, but the colors of the calendars are wrong then. i really hope this will be fixed with the next update.

  • Address Book and iCal Server backups

I'm working to implement a company-wide Address Book, iCal, and iChat server via Lion Server where I work, and I've gotten most of the setup figured out (I think), and am approaching the point where I can roll it out to a few users for further testing.  However, before I'm allowed to move forward any further w/ it I have to have two means of backing up in place and ready to be rolled out at the same time as the server—so I'm planning on using Time Machine as one so it does the entirety of the server and its data/settings, but they also want me to do one of the Address Book Server and iCal Server databases individually, like back up the folder the data is, so we can, if ever necessary, import the backup databases to another computer, so we at least have the content, if not the full server functionality.  And, for obvious reasons, it can't be backed up locally.
So I'm looking for a means of doing this and would love any input anyone has.  Ease of use/setup is pretty important as this is my first time setting Server up and I've no programming knowledge.  I'm fairly sure I'll be able to find (or write my own, though that's unlikely) or modify and AppleScript that simply copies/duplicates a Finder item, and I know I can have iCal automatically run a script (so I'd just have it run every night at midnight or something), but I have yet to figure out how to get the script to copy the folder to a specified location on a different server (or, for that matter, if it's even possible, though I'm sure it is...right?).  But that's not what I'm trying to ask here...though I certainly wouldn't mind if someone had thoughts on it and wanted to share them !  I just really would like to know which folders to back up, since it's not simply making an archive of the local Address Book.app database.
And, since I'm already here writing a post, I'll ask one other question that's been nagging at me: in Server Admin.app, with the server (not the services) selected in the sidebar on the left, the Access pane selected in the primary Server Admin window, and Services selected, and trying to dictate which users/groups can access which services, the user can click the "+" in the lower-left corner of the window where added users would appear, and another window pops up next to the Server Admin window that shows a list of the users (and groups if you click the appropriate button).  My question is, why does it show me _krb_anonymous, _krb_changepw, and a total of 81 other items?  I understand more or less what they are (in a very general sense), but why are they shown as users?  More importantly, do they have to be listed there?  Technically I'm probably the only one that's going to be the administrator, and I'll know not to add them or modify them, but I don't want anything related to those items appearing in a directory search in Address Book when I get it set up (as they are showing up now; for instance, one user I created is Sandy, and I have it set to include directory contacts in searches, so on a client machine that is correctly communicating w/ the server (add a user, it appears in a minute on another client machine, and vice versa) if I go to search for that name as soon as I type "s" Sandy, the actual user shows up, but so do five or six other things, all of which are items from the aforementioned list in Server Admin (pretty much anything that has an "s" in it, which of course makes sense)—and that's what I don't want, I don't want the users to search for someone, see something like _krb_anonymous pop up, then think something is screwed up and call me and demand I come fix their computer!).
Any thoughts, suggestions, and such are more than welcome and much appreciated!
    Thank you to all...

  • HT1277 can I delete emails from my IPhone and the server as well?

Can I delete emails from both my IPhone 5 and the server as well?

It's very easy to do - open up the music app, find the song/artist/album you want to delete and then swipe on it right to left and press 'delete'. Once you have done this it will take up no more space on your device whether it's in the cloud or not.
If the song is still appearing in the music app with a little cloud next to it then you can stop it from showing by going into settings, music, and turning off 'show all music'. Note that this will remove ALL songs from the music app that have the cloud next to it (the cloud means they are in the cloud, online, but not stored on the device) and if you want to play them you will have to open itunes and redownload it, or change this setting back to on.
Let me know if you need any more help!

  • Iphone and ical syncing issues

My iphone 3GS seems to be creating double all of the ical entries? I have recently updated to the new mobileme calendar but this was happening just before also.
I enter ical events on both my mac book pro and my iphone. Ical does not double the events but the iphone does.
Anyone else had this issue or know what could be causing it??
    Cheers.

There's a whole "encyclopedia" in these forums about this problem. Suggest you search here for something like "iCal event duplication" and you should find a good bit of helpful information.
That said, I had similar problems with my iPhone 3G and then my iPhone 4, and it basically came down to MobileMe issues. My best advice would be to look first to see whether or not the calendar on your MBP agrees with the one on MobileMe - I'm betting you'll find issues there for which the phone is just a display medium. It will probably be necessary for you to reset your sync data and clean out either the iCal data or the data in MM Calendar.

  • IPhone and iCal calendars all of sudden not synching

All of a sudden when I try to synch my iPhone it get's stuck for hours trying to synch the calendars. In iTunes it shows "Synching calendars with iPhone" and just goes and goes and goes like this FOREVER. Everything else synchs fine. If I uncheck "synch iCal calendar" in iTunes, everything else synchs in a snap as usual. Same thing happens when my husband tries to synch his phone.
Any tips or tricks I can try?
    Thanks!
    Keely

    One thing that might help.
On your mac, create a new login.
    Close itunes.
    Log into the new account.
open ical and enter a test event.
open itunes and go through the initial setup.
    Connect the iphone.
Control click on the iphone under devices and choose back up. (create a safety net for yourself.)
Now sync only calendars. You should get a message to merge data and about modifying more then 5% of the data on the computer.
If the issue persists there could be an issue with the content on the iphone.
If the sync goes fine, there could be an issue with the content in ical on the original account.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

    Hope this helps.

  • Different event time on iPhone and iCal throw the Mac OSX Server

    Hi, everyone.
I have an iPhone, a MacBook Pro with latest OS X updates ant trying to sync Calendars throw my Mac OS X Server mini (with latest OS version too).
Everything works fine except one thing:
When i create an event, for example in iCal, and set time to, for example, 20:00, it appears on iPhone a 3 hours earlyer - 17:00.
When i change time on the iPhone to 20:00, after syncing time on the iCal changing to 23:00.
I live in Moscow time zone (+3) and have right time on my server settings and on all my devices.
I really don't know were the problem can be and would be very thankful for help.

    Hi,
Do you have timezone support set up in iCal? This is set in iCal's Preferences > Advanced section.
If so, what timezone does the event appear as being in when you open it to edit in iCal? Also what timezone does it show in the top right of iCal's main window?
    Best wishes
    John M

  • Iphone and Ical on mac do not sync anymore. All my events are in the iphone calendar! How do I backup iphone calendar, and how do I fix the syncronizing problem?

After getting iCloud the iCal on my mac does not sync with my iPhone calendar. All of my calendar notes are in my iPhone (while the mac's Ical remains empty) so I need to backup the iphone version. How?
Itunes says that "your calendars are being syncronized with iphone using icloud" - but the mac's ical does not show any of the new events I have added on my iphone.
I would like to install the new update on my iphone, but I am afraid to do it without knowing that I will be able to restore my iphone calendar. I have made calendar events for many years to come, I and will not risk losing them!
I have been looking for tips online, but the solutions usually suggest that I backup the ical on the mac and start fresh using this version. In other words overwrite iphone calendar with the ical from the mac. Which is not an option. What can I do?

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • Setting up Open Directory and iCal server.

    Hello:
I'm new to open directory - please help or point me in the right direction. I'm trying to set up a OSx server 10.5 running on a PowerMac G4.
I need iCal/DNS/FS/VPN/WEB/Open Directory as services enabled.
For testing purposes I've set up a small network with three machines all running 10.5.6.
I've tired over and over to do this via an advanced server but have not be able to get everything to work so I did a basic server allowing the server set up to input all my settings. Everything built and started up without issue but I could not get iCal to work. I let the set up sit over night and when I returned the next morning the MacMini screen had a window saying that a directory server has been found that offers these following services ...WEB - iCal etc. Do you want to configure your workstation. I did and everything worked as aspected. I thought that I finally got it!
I wanted to see the all of the settings so I converted the server to an advanced server and everything still worked. ( From the one workstation ).
I imported a users exported file from the server I'm trying to fix then the groups file. Everything still worked from the Mac Mini but I could not connect from the other workstation.
I never received the Open Directory message about services being offered etc.
Both machines have identical network settings ( Fixed I.P. pointing the DNS to the server.) AFP sees the server from both workstations but I can not login from the third workstation using any known good user name and password not even the admin or the Macmini account and password that works from the Mac mini. I don't really know anything about open directory, do you need to register the computer name with the server or something to that effect.
Why would it take hours for that original service offering to go out to the first workstation?
Thanks for any help you can offer. All of my OSX server experience has been setting up file servers never any of the other offerings.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Sorry,
I posted this to the wrong forum. I re-posted in Open Directory.
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • IPhone and iCal issues

    Hello!
I can't seem to open up iCal invitations using .Mac mail on my iPhone. It comes in as a .ics but when I double click nothing happens.
On the other hand when I am in my Mac mail on my laptop, I can double click invitations and it will open iCal.
    Am I missing something?

  • IPhone and iCal sync via iTunes - calendars appear on IPhone not in iCal

Hi, i hope that someone out there may have encountered and resolved this.
Basically I am trying to sync my iPhone 3G with iCal using iTunes as the sync tool. I have partial success in that my iCal calendar entries can be found within my iPhone BUT the reverse is not true, my iPhone calendar is showing in iCal - I would expect to see within the calendar list something like "on my iPhone" (although never having done this before i may be completely wrong!).
I should add that my iPhone is a company phone synced to Outlook over the air, iTunes tells me this, but it doesn't tell me that i can't do a Sync with my iMac.
    Any help welcomed.

This doesn't help you, but I just recently started having the same problem, I just upgraded my 3G to 4.0 in iTunes so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but nothing on my phones calendar will sync to iCal. Events in iCal sync to the computer just fine thought. I hope someone can help me figure this out!

  • IPhone and iCal

So a very wierd thing is happening....whenever I sync my phone, iCal records events exactly (and consistently) 4 hours earlier than in iPhone. What the heck is going on??? Anyone....?

Did you check the time zone settings on the iPhone? Settings / General / Date & Time / Time Zone

  • IPhone and iCal and Repeated Events

    Hi,
Suppose I created a DAILY action from the Automator. And further suppose I attached this DAILY thingy to iCal. Now, finally suppose that when I sync the phone it fills every day with my daily thingy (which of course has nothing to do with the phone or anything I need be reminded of.)
All of this makes perfect sense. My question is: Is there a way to NOT sync "certain" items in iCal to the phone or is my only choice to not sync iCal at all?
    tob

If you create calendar events in a certain category it is possible to pick and choose what category you want to sync in Itunes. For example, if you have calendar events for family and work you can choose to ONLY sync the work events to the iPhone.
    I hope that helps.

  • Appointment times not the same between iPhone and iCal...

When I make an appointment in my calender using my iPhone it displays the time one hour earlier in iCal on my iMac. When you edit the appointment in iCal it displays the correct time, but in the graphical view it is one hour earlier.
My time zone is set to America/Indianapolis. I've deleted the calenders and re-entered the data, but the result comes out the same. The iPhone seems to maintain the correct appointment time. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

  • 2 Macs, a iphone and Ical

I have 2 computers, a Imac and a Macbook Pro, running the same versions of software.
I am running in to issues in the following order:
    1. My imac is my primary computer where I have always had my schedule on ical. Even after the mobileme sync, this calendar will NOT show up on me.com How do I fix that?
    2. I want to use my macbook pro to make changes to my ical and have it reflect on the imac and the iphone...is that do-able? Right now, I use spanning sync and it does a good enough job...but, come on, that's why I pay for me.com, right?
    3. I want this to all coordinate with the iphone. I have iphone version 1.0 and so maybe it will not "push" any adjustments I make on the phone to my computer without syncing it...but, If there is a way, please let me know.
My dream situation is having the exact same calendar on all 3 products and being able to update the calendar on any of the products and having the changes reflected on all 3. Is that too much to ask?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mehul P.

that is the same setup that I have and I don't have a problem. Sync you iMac ical to mobile me then sync the mobile me with macbook (you may have to rewrite the info on the macbook) and iphone (same). Note that changes to a computer do not push to mobileme, you have to sync manually. But once mobileme it should update everything according to your sync schedule or manually. It works fine for me. If you're still having a problem, post details of your set up.
