IPhone doesn't play Quicktime Web-Export for iPhone (not cell!)

Hello guys,
I play around with the html5 video tag and the possibilities to get implemented videos working on the iPhone. I exported the video via the standard function in Quicktime (Encoding Video for Wi-Fi, 3G, and EDGE) which is installed on 10.6.
I implemented the exported reference-mov file in my page but on the iPhone only the cell version is viewable - when WIFI is switched off. If WIFI is switched on the iPhone shows the poster image with the crossed play button in the front but the regarding video (not the cell version) can't be started
The desktop (computer) version of the same video is displayed on Safari on the MacBook via the reference file.
Is there someone who knows something about this behavior?
Kind regards
André

This is all to do with MIME types.
iPhones play .m4v files (as exported from quicktime) but will only accept then if delivered as "video/mp4" not "video/m4v".
The easiest way to do this to edit you .htaccess file by adding the line:
===========================
AddType video/mp4 mp4 mp4v mpg4 m4v
===========================
Apache Servers should now add that MIME type to their internal list.
Note: You should still upload the .m4v file (not rename to .mp4 as some have done) - it will now play over wifi.
Hope this helps and thanks to kingkong36 for the original solution.
If you are unsure how to edit your .htaccess file then then is lots of documentation online - just search '.htaccess' but a quick method is to make a .txt file containing the above line, upload that to the root file of your site and then rename it '.htaccess' from htaccess.txt - removing the '.txt' first.
Be careful though that you are not overwriting another file - make sure you ftp software is set to 'Show hidden files' or similar, then edit that one if there is one as files beggining 'dot' are hidden by default.
Cheers, Tim.

  • FCP quicktime "iphone "export diff then quicktime "export for iphone web"??

so what i dont get, is when i export out of quicktime using "export for web" and i choose the "iphone" 900 kbit option, i get 480X270 beautiful true widescreen clips. But when I export using quicktime conversion in final cut pro 6 and i choose" iphone"....i get 480X360. Why does this happen? I want true widescreen, just like everything i get from itunes.....not this 360 size (which i know is the phones screen res, but who cares)?

Earlybird is exporting H264 ... the Key Frames setting is determining the GOP length. This value should really be determined based on the complexity of the video, to my understanding, the actual frame rate has no bearing on it. If you have very complex fast moving content then a low Key Frame rate is advisable to ensure good image quality (although it will adversely affect the filesize) whereas if you have slow moving or static content (like an interview subject) then a higher Key Frame rate will still produce a good image but at a smaler filesize. The default of 24 should be pretty much fine as a catchall starting point.
    Earlybird
Corrupted render files (and render references) can be a pain because FCP will use those files and references  in place of the original media when building the export. And so it should as it does't want to waste time re-rendering sections that are apparently already rendered. Unfortuantely, as noted, if the render file has gone bad and/or starts referencing the wrong media then you'll get these wierd flashes of completely unexpeced and unwanted footage showing up where it shouldn't be. When you trash those files then QT / FCP will just go back and re-reference the original media ... so it's usually a worthwhile step to take just in case thats the problem.  The worse case scenario is that it only that doesn't work and you spend some time unecessarily re-rendering.
As to why these files go bad? That I don't know. Why do Preferences get corrupted? That I don't know either but it definitely happens :-(

  • Using Quicktime's "Export for Web" feature in iWeb?

    Greetings,
Does anyone know if this is possible within iWeb, that is, to use movies created using Quicktime's "Export to Web" feature, which really seems to deliver superior movie quality?
    Much appreciated,
    DaveB

Thanks, good stuff, though I'm still having a small problem with this. I'm getting a gray line around the top and left of my movie and the right side of the player is getting cut off. When I try to make the width larger, it just moves the gray line further to the left.
    Any ideas?

  • QuickTime not playing QuickTime when exported?

    Hi,
I just exported a movie for iPhone from QuickTime using Export for web. I get a question mark.
    I'm using QuickTime Pro Version 7.6.2 (518) and OS X 10.5.7
I also get the question mark when publishing movies with iWeb so I'm assuming it's the same problem.
What can I do to fix this and ensure that others can see these movies?
    thanks,
    Dave

sure thing. I've posted these galleries in 2 places and neither are working for me:
    http://gallery.me.com/timaging#100060
    http://web.me.com/timaging/DaveLisaPix/CapeCod2009.html
second one doesn't work in Firefox at all, so I'm just considering the first link for now. Scroll down and you will see a few movies in there.

  • IPhone Doesn't Play Podcast Videos

My iPhone doesn't play podcast videos - it shows a static picture then plays the corresponding audio, is this a configuration issue in iTunes or iPhone - or is this a disappointing defect? Thanks ...

Not so much a bug, but a difference in behavior from the iPods.
In the iPod, you can make a playlist under Music->Playlist and it can contain both audio and video files. It will play the audio files fine, then the audio-only of the video files in the list. Having videos in a music playlist seems like a bug, but this "feature" allows you to just hear audio of video files if you desire (like listening to a movie without running the video screen).
If you go in to Video->Playlists instead, you play audio, then switch to video when it hits a video item in the list.
On the iPhone, the concept of Video Playlist is unavailable, only a playlist via TV Shows. So, I can't do it like I've been doing it for the past year or so on my iPod with Video.
I'm working on workarounds right now. I tried toggling all the vidcasts to "TV Show" video type, so they can be added to a TV Show playlist, and that sorta-works but isn't graceful (if I can make it work, I'll provide an iTunes script to do this for us).
I also found out by downloading the podcasts (check them off specifically) they can be made to show up in the video section, but just having them in an Audio Playlist isn't enough.
    More research...

  • IPhone doesn't have QuickTime?

So recently my girlfriend got an iPhone and she says it doesn't havw QuickTime is there a way to get QuickTime on her iPhone?

But she says she needs Quicktime to watch a video or listen to a song on the net.
It depends what format the QuickTime file is in. The iPhone doesn't have QuickTime as such (like the desktop player), but it does support many filetypes that QuickTime also supports.
    The iPhone supports the following:
Audio formats supported: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
If the video or audio is in any other format on your computer, then she's out of luck. You may be able to download the media file, convert it to a supported format, and the sync it to the iPhone for viewing.

  • OSX Lion and exporting for iPhone

There was a thread about how when trying to set and/or publish for iPhone or edit its settings, Flash CS5 immediately crashes. The problem has been experienced by many Mac OSX Lion users and they talked about it in this unresolved thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/888198#3851750 but still no updates from Adobe. Adobe sent me a response to my Support ticket that "it's an Actionscript 3 coding issue" then closed it so I couldn't reply. Ummmm, NO it isn't a coding issue, I tried to export an FLA file with no code in it. That's a really bad way to do business, Adobe. But since they're not going to be helpful (and probably lose me as a customer) has anyone else found a workaround for this?

The aspect ratio of the iphone screen is 480 x 320, but that size is not an option when exporting for iPhone using Compressor. You have to use a custom setting.
    Why is this the case?
You have to understand that the Apple-provided presets are good launching points, not end-all, be-all settings.
And iPhones do support material encoded as 640 pixels wide so the preset for VGA (up to 640x480) works fine for most people. I personally rarely use anything smaller than the VGA setting for Apple Devices as I find that's the perfect middle ground for iPods, iPhones and AppleTV.
If you (understandably) need to limit your file and frame sizes, adjusting the device setting in Compressor to iPhone (Local/WiFi) does the trick - fitting your movie into a 480 pixel-wide frame size and capping the video data rate at 1000 Kbps.
Letterboxing - as in hard mattes - is not needed when encoding for Apple Devices. In fact, if you have letterboxing in your source media, use the Geometry pane to crop out the Letterbox Area of Source. That will provide you with a better quality encode and the preset will know to adjust your output frame size, so you need not worry about distorting your movie.

  • Exporting for iphone

I want to export material from FCP to compressor for use on iphone.
The aspect ratio of the iphone screen is 480 x 320, but that size is not an option when exporting for iPhone using Compressor. You have to use a custom setting.
    Why is this the case?
Compressor offers 320 x 240 and 640 x 480. Both of these are fine for an older ipod, but not for the wider screen of an ipod touch or iphone.
Do they want us to letterbox a 3:2 image on iPhones and iPod Touch?
    Thanks for any help

  • What´s QTKitServer- (254). Web content for Safari (not responding)

Help Please!! Hi, my name is German, and I have a MBA 13 mid 2013. I have a doubt in according to activity monitor. Becasue there is an item in activity monitor (CPU)  that is says: QTKitServer - 254. Web content for Safari (not responding) in red colour.
Do you know what is that?
    Thank you very much,
    Germán.

    Hi,
I've also seen this Not responding QTKitServer-(xxxxx) process and i've suspected Safari Extension issue.
So i deactivated all the extensions, then reactivated one by one and i saw that the issue was ClickToPlugin (ClickToFlash also). It's occured while ClickToFlash block a Flash Advertising.
So, for now the only way is to deactivate ClickToFlash and to wait for an update from the developper.

  • How to play quicktime .mov files on iphone

I would like to be able to play quicktime (.mov) files on my iphone4s but I get a message that my file cannot be played on this iphone.
I created the file in keynote, exported it to a quicktime movie with the manual advance option.
My goal is to be able to use iphone to connect to a projector with a iphone to vga adapter and thus project my presentations from the iphone.
But I cannot import import it using itunes to the iphone.
Wondering if there is an app that plays quick time movies or some other option.
The reason I cannot export from keynote is that it does not give the option for manual advance.
It only provides a fixed time option.
    Appreciate any help
    thank you
    jac

  • Best format to export for iPhone

What's the best format for viewing over the web via an iPhone? The quicktime format that I used for my blog generates an 'Error playing movie' message on my iPhone.

Visualhub is a transcoder with multiple input and output formats with specific setting for iPod,iPod touch. Costs around $19-used to work great but recently everything I convert suffers audio crash than closes out the player. Hopefully they will fix it.
Elgato H.264 hardware transcoder is $99 dollars(USB stick that plugs in to Mac)-speeds up encoding of any file quicktime can handle, settings for apple tv, iphone/touch, ipod,Sony PSP. Worth the cost if you transcode a lot of video for the Touch or own an elgato HD tuner. Files work flawlessly and look great.
Mpeg streamclip-free. Works great, has presets or can customize the output.

  • My iPhone doesn't play my music

I just syncronized my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.03 as it was suggested when i looked for new updates. However, since i did the sync, i can't play the music.
As soon as i enter to the app it starts to pass all my songs one at a time but it takes almost two seconds with each song  until it finishes with the last song (it seems like if it was recognizing all the songs), however when it gets to the last song it starts all over again and i cant play any, i have restarted my iPhone several times i've closed the app but i don't know what else i can do. Can someone please tell me what to do?

I am having the same issues. tried to update and sync the iphone one more time, but no improvement. it either skips them all or it doesn't play any song...wish i have never updated my iphone with the new software...

  • Export for iPhone with crop?

I did searchs for iPhone AND crop and iPod AND crop, but nothing came up, so...
Is it possible to use QT to export to iPhone with a custom crop? I'm starting with 1280x720 HD video from a Flip MinoHD. I would like to end up with something in a 3:2 ratio like 480x320 (either cropped to 1080x720 and then scaled or scaled then cropped to 3:2).
I can do this crop if I export to MPEG-4 and it works great. This export option, however, comes out as mp4, instead of m4v and doesn't work on the iPhone.
Any way to do this QT?
    How about QT Pro?
    Thanks!

Do you have any idea if I'm doing something wrong? Here's an excerpt from my email to the author (I didn't mention cropping as to simplify my question/bug report)
Since you did not describe your actual "crop" work flow for MPEG Stramclip I suspect that is where your problem lies. Basically you are going from a 1.78:1 to a 1.50:1 aspect ration. Therefore your will have to crop the left-right edges and not the top-bottom. Since you indicate want to end up with a 480x320 viewing area, try the following:
    1) Select either of the iPhone presets. Since you will have to customize the dimensions, as well as, crop the file, it doesn't matter which preset you choose.
    2) Back in the main MPEG-4 export window, re-set the "Other" dimensions to 569x320. What you are in effect doing is setting the target height of the output you want and adjusting the width to the nearest pixel for a 16:9 aspect ratio to match your source file and, thus, minimize any distortion.
    3) Set output audio and/or video rates as desired (I normally use 1000 or 1200 Kbps for video and 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz for audio) and make any adjustments to brightness, contrast, saturation, volumes, etc. if desired.
    4) Now activate the "Cropping" tool by "ticking" the correct box and leave the option in the "Destination" mode.
    5) Now enter your left-right crop settings. These setting must total 89 pixels to be subtracted from the 569 scaled pixel width which will leave you with your specified 480x320 viewing area. How much you decide to crop from the left and right sides is up to you but must total 89 pixels. Thus you can keep the center area or chose to offset the viewing area as best suits your needs.
    6) Now preview the content to be sure it is exactly what you want and if/when satisfied, select the "Make MP4" button to set up and begin your export.
