Iphone won't send texts to non-iphone users

I woke up this morning and my iphone 4s will no longer send texts to non-iphone users.  I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.  I reset my network settings.  I restarted my phone.  Nothing is working.  I don't know how to fix this.  I can send imessages just fine.

I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.
The ONLY SMS settings is: Settings > Messages > Sends as SMS > ON.  Is that what you mean?
Did you contact your carrier to confirm that SMS is still provisioned in your account?

I only purchased my phone a week ago and have had this problem since new.

    Hi Rhys1998,
Happy New Year!  If you are not able to send SMS messages to a non-Apple phone, try these troubleshooting steps:
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204065
    Check your device settings
Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network.
Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage, Send as SMS, or MMS Messaging is turned on (whichever method you're trying to use). Learn about the different types of messages you can send.
    Check the recipient's contact info
Make sure that you're using the right phone number or email address.
Go to Settings > Messages > Blocked and make sure that they're not on your block list.
Restart your device and check for updates
    Restart your device.
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Check the system status for iMessage
Go to the Apple Services System Status page and check iMessage.Turn iMessage off and back on
Go to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off, then back on.Sign out and back in to iMessage and FaceTime
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
On your iPhone first, sign back in to iMessage and Facetime.
Sign back in to iMessage and Facetime on your other devices.
    Reset your network settings
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.Back up and restore your device
Use iTunes or iCloud to back up your content, then restore your device.
Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201287
What's the difference between SMS/MMS and iMessage?
SMS/MMS lets you send text messages and photos to other cellular phones or devices. iMessage lets you send text messages and photos to another iOS device over Wi-Fi, without worrying about text-messaging charges (cellular data charges may apply).
What do I need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage?
Here's what you need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage:
SMS/MMS: A text-messaging plan. Contact your carrier for more information.
iMessage: An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later.
Can’t get text messages from an iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5185
You can't send SMS or text messages to a non-Apple phone (such as an Android, Windows, or BlackBerry phone), because the messages are sent as iMessage
This can happen if you used iMessage on your iPhone and then transferred your SIM card or phone number to a non-Apple phone. If you didn't turn off or deactivate iMessage before switching to a non-Apple phone, other iOS devices will still try to use iMessage to send text messages to your phone number. Follow the appropriate steps below to resolve the issue. Likewise, if you can't send someone a text who used to have an iPhone, having them follow these steps should resolve the issue.
If you still have your iPhone
Put the SIM card you transferred from your iPhone back into your iPhone.
Make sure that you're connected to a cellular data network (such as 3G or LTE).
Tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
If you don't have your iPhone or if you can't turn off iMessage
Use the deregister iMessage webpage. For more information, see Deregister iMessage: Frequently Asked Questions. These steps won't deregister your phone number with iMessage
Logging in to My Support Profile and changing your password or removing your phone number
    Texting STOP to 48369
    Resetting your network settings
    Changing your Apple ID password

I hope this information helps ....

  • Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

iMessage is from Apple to communicate with other Apple devices.
iPad is not a phone and does not have SMS/MMS services from a carrier. There are apps that can do this, search the App Store.

  • I have an iphone 5 prob sending texts to non-apple iphones.

i have an iphone 5. all working EXCEPT...can't seem to send texts to non-apple iphones. can anyone help or suggest what prob might be?

That has something to do with your carrier. If your phone is sending messages at all, it means your data is working fine, but if it's not sending just green SMS messages to non-iphones, you need to contact your carrier and let them know

  • Why won't my iphone let me send pictures to non-iphone users?

My iphone isn't letting me send pictures to non-iphone users. It will only let me send it to other people who have the iphone 4s and have imessage. Is there something wrong with my settings? Or is it a hardware issue?

It's gotta be a hardware issue!! I'm having the same problem all of a sudden. Was able to send them before but not anymore. Have also had issues with an error message in sending Text Messages to non iOS 6 users. If I had it to do over again I'd never have switched to iPhone

  • New iPhone won't send texts/make calls

I broke my iPhone 5s a week ago, so I called *228 to put my number on an old iPhone 4 that my friend had so that I had a phone to use while I waited for my new one to come. My new phone is here and i have all my contacts on it as well as my apps, but it won't send text messages or make calls. I can't even call *228. I was wondering what I need to do so that this new phone is associated with my number again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Restart the phone by holding down the top/power button and the Home button at the same time until the device restarts.
Log on to your My Verizon account and select "Activate Device".

  • Iphone 4s wont send pics to non iPhone users

tried everything. contacted Apple. still can't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jannwj, I am sorry you are having issues with not being able to send pictures to non iPhone users from your iPhone 4S! I realize you said everything was tried! However, more specifics would be appreciated. I like to suggest for you to check on something! Is the most reset software version on your iPhone 4S? If you have not checked this, give the update a chance to help resolve the issue. Use this link to the update and following all the steps with backing up your data http://bit.ly/RA0BTg. Also, go into your settings>messages and turn MMS on. If it is already on, try doing a soft reset and retry sending the picture message. I trust this helps!

  • IPhone 4 wont send pics to non iPhone users

My daughter and I both purchased the iPhone 4 (brand new!) yesterday. Mine is working GREAT. Hers is having issues. Most issues were resolved when we removed "restrictions" but she still is un-able to send pictures to non-iPhone users, yet I have full ability to do so. Any answers? Verizon said we needed to talk to Apple before they would replace.
    Thanks.

Check Settings>Messages to be sure MMS Messaging is set to On.

  • Unable to send texts to none iPhone users with my iPhone 6

I am unable to send or recieve text messages from non iphone contacts of mine. I've looked under settings and my SMS option is on.

SMS messages are sent through AT&T, since you have SMS enabled check another setting.
    Settings>iMessages>Send & receive
Make sure your phone number is listed, not just your Apple ID.
If your phone number is listed, try doing this:
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
(This would delete any saved Wi-Fi passwords but no other data)
If that doesn't work, you'll need to contact AT&T

  • Why can't I send texts to non iPhones?

Just started today. I can send texts to iPhones, but to no one else in my contact list. What causes this and how do I fix it?

There are too many to list here and as everyone I text to has an iOS device I've never bothered to download one. Two of my teenaged grandchildren do use one of the free ones but I don't know which.
I suggest you do a search for SMS in the App Store and pick out a few to see if they would suit your requirements.
You could also do a Google type of search for 'iPad SMS' and get a list.
Be sure to read the reviews before picking one.

  • Iphone trying to send iMessages to non iphone users - HELP!

My friend just switched from Verizon to Sprint. He has NEVER had an iphone. He currently has some type of galaxy or android. As of last night all of my texts to him are being sent as iMessages (which he obviously doesn't receive). He's had the phone for two weeks and up until yesterday we were able to text via SMS with no issues. I still get his texts - he gets nothing from me and it only shows on my phone as going through as an iMessage. I've tried deleting his contact and adding it again. It still shows up blue in my contacts as if it's an iphone (which it obviously is not). I know I can turn off my iMessage on my phone but I like using it because the majority of my friends and family have iPhones. Is there any way to fix this??

I am having the same issue in the US.
I had a 3GS and switched to an Android based phone.  My wife now has a 4s and all messages from her were going to my old iPhone instead of my new phone.  My old phone does not have service, but still works well on wifi.  My messages would send fine, and I could send and receive from non-iPhone users without issue.  I then tried sending to an iPhone 4, and once again got an iMessage back on my old phone from that person.
    Fix:
I pulled the SIM card from my new phone, had the iPhone users delete and re-enter contact info for me.  The first time they send a message to me it goes out as an iMessage, but then re-sends about 5 minutes later as a regular text.  Once the thread has started, it goes back and forth without issue.  If they delete the thread off their iPhones, the process starts over again and the first one takes about 5 minutes to resend as a regular text.
I know iPhones with iOS 5 will always send as an iMessage first if that is enabled (and why wouldn't it, it's a great feature) but it needs to go to Apple's servers first, then resent as a non-iMessage.
I am not sure if others are experiencing delays in first run text messages to others and think the delay is teh network, when it may the iMessage function.  I would like to see some feedback from others if they are seeing delays?

  • IPhone trying to send iMessage to non iPhone.

My friend had an iPhone 4 with iOS5 and has recently switched to a different phone as his iPhone died on him.
My iPhone is still attempting to send him iMessages and obviously they are getting lost in the ether...
I'm not going to switch off iMessaging each time I want to message him, that's just ridiculous.
Has anyone else had this issue?
    How can this be resolved?
