IPhoto '11 won't acknowledge my iPhone 3G

I've been having reception issues with my iPhone and today I took it to the Apple Store where I scheduled an appointment and the guy who ran the diagnostic on it said that there were definite antenna issues and they would replace the phone.  He told me to go home and back-up all my photos and whatever else I wanted.  Told me to open iPhoto (I have iPhoto '11 v.9.1.3 (607)) and "import" all the pictures and movies.  OK, so I got home and for the life of me I cannot get iPhoto to "see" the iPhone.  Actually, I can see it in iTunes... but in iTunes you can only import pictures from your iMac onto the iPhone not the other way around.  Further... I can't even see the iPhone in Finder/Devices.
I started chasing this around and I've read through several dozen threads with no simple solution as it seems to have been a problem for a couple of years now... all of a sudden, your iMac can't see your iPhone!!!  There are many suggested hacks but no simple Apple-provided "fix" for this problem to make it work properly.  My phone service is spotty, and the guy showed me where they confirmed in his diagnostic that I'm dropping nearly 70% of my calls!  I didn't realize it was that bad.  I need to get those pictures and movies OFF the iPhone and I don't want to have to buy yet another aftermarket APP to make it happen.  Apple should make it happen... right?
Anyone want to point me to the Apple-provided "fix"?
Mike

Greetings Mike,
Anyone want to point me to the Apple-provided "fix"?
Here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3195
This issue most commonly occurs because an incompatible / corrupt image has been added to the camera roll on the iPhone (saved from a website or received in an email etc).  Removing that image usually restores function.  Follow that entire article to resolve the issue.
As a short cut you can try using the Image Capture program found in the Applications folder to see if that will recognize your pictures and movies and import them.  Otherwise follow the article.
Cheers.

  • ITunes & iPhoto suddenly won't recognize my iPhone 4S

I've made some purchases recently both in and out of iTunes, so I decided I wanted to download them to my phone this morning. I plugged in my iPhone 4S (v7.1.2) and opened iTunes (v11.3), but iTunes wouldn't recognize the phone, even after I rebooted the phone, checked the cable, rebooted and reinstalled iTunes, etc.
My phone is charging, so my MacBook (which is running Mavericks OS 10.9.4) is definitely connecting to it.
But when I tried iPhoto, it won't recognize my phone, either. I rechecked the cable. It seems to be fine. I even tried a new cable. No dice.
What's going on? Anyone else experience this? It's the first time since I first starting using iPhones in 2008 that I've ever had this kind of problem.
    Thanks in advance!

What do you mean OS X won't allow you to uninstall iTunes?
Very rarely is needing to uninstall iTunes on a Mac before reinstalling required as is required with the spagetti code involved with Windoze.

  • IPhoto 2009 won't recognize second iPhone

iPhoto opens automagically for me when I plug in my iPhone via the usb sync cable. I usually transfer photos from my iPhone's cameral roll to a new event in iPhoto 2009. It will also recognize my wife's iPad when we plug it in.
However, I cannot get iPhoto to "see" my wife's iPhone when we plug it in. I would like to clear her phone's camera roll to iPhoto.
Both phones are 3GS with updated firmware. The iPhoto is updated, and is running on a MacBook with updated Snow Leopard. Any helpful ideas?
    Thanks!

I've seen this same advice in several places on the web and thought this might be my problem as well.
However, I'd remembered success in the past and found that by waiting after performing a few computer restarts and iPhone restarts and disconnecting and reconnecting the Mac/iPhone usb cable it "might" connect. I've been successful even with the alien pictures in the iPhones, though it is frustrating and I have to wait. I suggest waiting 10 minutes.
I have over 40,000 photos & movies in iPhoto and almost 2000 in my iPhones.

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • TS3195 My mac mini (Snow Leopard, v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone 4, iphone 4s or ipad2 in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview but it does in iTunes.  I am at a loss for importing photos, short of emailing them.  Glitch with OS X 10.6.8 ?

My Mac Mini (v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone as a device in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview although, iTunes does.  I am at a loss for importing photos other than emailing them to myself. Same problem with my iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad2 and New iPad. Is this a problem with OS X 10.6.8 as I read some posts claim? Please help.

I was able to import photos in iPhoto and Image capture when I was running SL 10.6.8 on my older MacBook.
Did you try quitting everything, restart the Mac and then try again?
Are there any updates at all for the Mac? I was helping one user not all that long ago and there were updates for her Mac software that had nothing to do with the OS and when she downloaded the updates - the iPad was then recognized in iTunes.

  • IPhoto won't recognize my iPhone

hi hello, all of suddenly my iPhone 3GS will not appear in my iphones when i sync to my iMac. Now I can't retrieve any photo's I've taken. There was no preference changes, and I already tried Applications>Image Capture>Preferences>Camera:when a camera is connected, open:iPhoto. ..nothing
Still iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone. What the heck happened?? and how to fix?
    Thanks for your time, James

    Try trash the following file
    com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501
    from HD/Library/ Caches
    and restart your mac.
If that fails: try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto won't import my iPhone pictures.

I updated my iPhone to the new iOS 7.0.3 software and now iPhoto '09 won't import my photos from my iPhone.  It keeps saying The file is in an unrecognized format.  How do I fix this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • New Photos Won't import from iPhone into iPhoto

i have photos i can see on my iPhone 4
but when I plug into USB on my MacBook Pro it
    is not importing
    please help

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, my iPhoto used to detect my iPhone and proceed to the automatic transfer of new photos, and now it doesn't anymore.
I've done quite a bit of research on this issue, but I can't seem to have any luck in fixing it...
Here's some fixes that I found on other sites that you could try:
    1. Reset the iPhone and your Mac.
    2. Check (from memory) if you have any pictures in your camera roll that weren't taken with your iPhone camera (this includes screenshots, photos downloaded from the web, email, etc.), this may be the cause of the problem and it's what makes iPhoto not recognize the phone as a camera anymore.
As for my problem, I've tried everything: resetting the phone, resetting my MacBook Pro, first deleting all photos that might be causing the problem, now I've deleted ALL my photos, and my Mac still won't detect my iPhone as a camera.
iTunes can see it just fine, and I can sync with it perfectly, but I can't sync it with iPhoto for the life of me...
If anyone could help, that would be perfect...

  • Had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, new iPhoto etc. just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No rosetta and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

I had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, snow leopard and mountain lion,  just to connect my new iPhone 5 and somewhere between uploading iPhone 4S pics to iCloud some important pics disappeared then installed new iTunes and purchased new iPhoto all  just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No Rosetta to make apps work but its not as simple as upgrading apps and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

File a complaint with Apple for not giving adequate warning before upgrading OS X that it would render PPC programs dead.
That someone at Apple said requiring the iPhone 5 to have 10.8 (10.6.8 is the minimum actually) and in order to remain a loyal Apple customer they need to fix this mess and revert your machine and software back to 10.6.8
You see, 10.6.8 would have ran your iPhone 5 and ran your PPC based software, so whoever told you to upgrade to 10.8 was wrong and they need to fix your machine.
It can be reverted to 10.6.8 yourself.

  • IPhoto won't recognize my Iphone 4.

It used to work, but today when I connected the phone a Dropbox message appeared, and a "never again for this device" box was checked. I just clicked "continue", and now I can't find the Iphone in the source list.
How can I restore the settings ?

I tried that and iTunes and iPhoto still won't recognize the device.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • IPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an apple iPhone, instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?

iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an "apple iPhone" instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?  as far as I can tell I have everything up to date and it's always worked in the past.

Have you already confirmed your Mac as a trusted device?  Try this:
    Lauch iTunes.
    Connect the Phone/iPad
When it asks you to trust it, say yes.
    Now try again to import.

  • Went on my vacation, brought my macbookpro, got home, mac pro won't acknowledge photos.  Why?

Wife uses the macbookpro mostly with her iphone.  However, they are my photos on my phone, and all computers are mine, so why in any case because I have synced with another computer with also uses another iphone, that my personal mac pro won't acknowledge the photos that originated from my phone.  Photos shouldn't be subject to copyright like music purchases.  If I decide to share my photos with another mac (which also happens to be my macbookpro that my wife uses), there shouldn't be anything applied to the photos I've taken with my personal iphone once it is plugged into my other mac.  They're my photos regardless and originated from my iphone, so my mac pro should never block these photos from me in iphoto.
    Summary:
I go on vacation with my macbookpro.
I take photos with my iphone.  I put them in my macbookpro while on vacation.
I get home.  I try to put the photos on my macpro.  Not only am I not allowed, I can't even see the photos in iphone via my plugged in iphone.  They are hidden when plugged into my macpro.
Why don't I have access to MY OWN PHOTOS when I have spent well over 50,000 dollars in Apple products?
To fix this I had to export the photos from the macbookpro to a USB and manually add them to my mac pro.  Alternatively I could plug in my iphone to my windows computer and access all the files via a folder search.

Another way to look at this which imo also applies.
I go on vacation with friend.  I take photos with my iphone.  I sync some of the photos to his iphoto on his macbook.  I get home.
I can no longer see those photos, which I took, using my own iphoto sync on my mac.  They don't show up anywhere with preview or image capture (remembered name).  Just because I gave my friend some of my photos, doesn't mean a lock should be applied that doesn't allow me to sync those photos via iphoto on my own mac.  Doesn't this make sense?  Why is this happening?

  • IPhoto 11 won't launch and crashes every time I try to rebuild the library. Urgh.

iPhoto 11 won't launch- it's another case of an infinite skinny wheel. I've tried rebuilding the library numerous times, each time it takes about a day and each time it crashes near the end. This is just ridiculous. Any tips folks?
APPLE if you can hear me... shouldn't you be testing this stuff prior to release? I know you do but I mean, like REALLY testing it? This is my second iPhoto upgrade disaster. The last time I lost my entire library, had to spend £80 on recovery software that recovered not only most of my photos, but every image cached on my machine. So then I had the fun of sorting through literally thousands of images...
And I only got the upgrade becasue my iPhone is refusing to sync, freezing on the iPhoto bit. Gah.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto/iTunes won't update or open on Macbook

Here's the background. I have a MacBook which has been taken in for repairs twice. The first time they replaced the motherboard and then the second time they replaced the battery and the part where the charger attaches to the laptop. It's about 3-4 years old. For about 6 or more months now updates haven't been working. I click to install them and it does the whole loading process, restarts, etc. and when it finally starts up again, nothing has been installed or updated. So now iTunes and iPhoto won't work because i "don't have the latest version". I can't access any of my photos or sync my iPhone. Recently I bought a MacBook Air  because I'm afraid of losing all my work since my MacBook isn't responding to anything. The store I bought my MacBook Air from put  my iTunes songs and movies onto my Air at my request. Unfortunately they only put on the songs I bought from iTunes and not the ones I downloaded from elsewhere so instead of having 2000 songs I only have 150. The space on the Air is minimal and I'm planning on buying an external hardrive to hold everything from my MacBook.  Which brings me to the problem. iTunes and iPhoto now won't open at all on my MacBook. iPhoto just says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?" but then only lets me quit. I don't understand what it means by a newer version since I haven't managed to update it for a long time. Then when I open iTunes, it just tells me to update it, which I click and load and shut down and wait for, and then when I open it up again it tells me to update the same program... I can tell updating is not working since usually it would take a while, whereas on my Macbook it just shuts down and restarts right away. Very frustrating!!!! If anyone has any tips or ideas as to what I'm doing wrong please let me know. I really don't want to take it in and pay for repairs or advice if it's something I can fix myself. Thank you!
