Iphoto 9.2.3 crashing during import after update.
Hi Everyone,
I am having crash problems with iphoto on my 17" 2011 MBP running Lion. I have tried rebuilding my library and deleting the plist file from my user/library/preferences folder. No luck. Here is the first bit of the crash log. If anyone has any tips for fixing this, they would be greatly appreciated.

Why is aperture 3.4 crashing during import after upgrade?
After running a typical upgrade from Software update on my mac I have had the problem of importing files into Aperture.
Exactly what happened and equipment used. Used SD 45mbs 16gb SD card to import RAW images after a shoot. This has been working and tested the day before update. Was prompted to update to Aperture 3.4 along with another update for OSX. After reboot I launched Aperture and was prompted to update library. Next SD card was inserted, pictures showed up as previews, all were selected and checked to import all. Application crashes see below.
What I have tired.
removed application
removed preference files
reinstalled application
was prompted for upgrade of library
once done inserted SD to import files
Same issue files show up but they do not import and same report comes up
have attempted multiple SD cards with no resolve.
Able to use disk on another computer with no issue.
Someone please helpWhat Aperture version are you running exactly? Aperture 3.4 or 3.4.1? The 3.4.1 update has some important bug fixes. If you did not install the last update, I'd recommend to update.
Some posters had problems with the image capture preferences, after upgrading to 3.4, and that caused troubles during import. Try if removing the image capture preference files helps:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture, and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/ then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture something.plist remove them too.
then try again.

the latest update of iPhoto '11 (9.1.3) is crashing during import on both my Macbook and iMac.
The crash seems to happen before the event is auto-split, and before the latest import is registered (only a much earlier import shows up in the "Recent->Last Import" collection.
This latest crash on my iMac has left me with an event visible only in the main "Library->Photos" collection, but not in the events list. In this case the thread deleting the photos on the SD card was only partly done as well so I manually removed the remaining already imported but latent photos from the SD card before returning it to my camera.
I cannot auto-split it either (it covers 19 days, with over 1400 photos).
The earlier crash on my Macbook did something similar (it was a partial import of my trip photos and I elected to keep them on the card that time), but I was able somehow to auto-split the one big event despite it not being in the events list and from then on everything seemed to look OK again on that system.
Both crash reports have been sent to Apple.
I may have found a possible workaround by selecting all the photos in the phantom event but via flagging them, then creating a new event from the flagged photos. Kinda hokey but it seems to have eliminated the phantom event at the same time due to the fact photos can only be in one event at a time.
iPhoto did crash one more time during this process though, and I've not yet confirmed if everything's OK since. If both libraries on both machines are crashing while importing the same set of images, then it suggests there's something wrong with one of those images.

IMovie '08 crash during import
Apple, please, please, pretty please. When are you gonna fix the import functionality of iMovie 7.2 ? It keeps crashing during import. Are you going to force me to use Moviemaker ?
I too am having this problem. I usually get about 15-30 min of video imported before it crashes. I'm using a Canon Elura 100(DV) on a MBP 2.4 w/ 4GB RAM. I initially tried importing with the camera connected to external FW HD. Read somewhere else that the camera needed to be on the FW bus by themselves, so I disconnected the externalHD and tried importing to the system HD, that didn't work. Tried a new FW cable, reinstalled iLife, no avail.
I'm curious where it is spec'd that the Canon camera has to be on the FW bus by itself? I never had a problem before importing with the camera daisy chained off of the external HD on my old G4. -
IMovie'08 (7.1) Crashes during Import from Camera
Well, it is hard to say simpler then the subject line of this posting... iMovie'08 (7.1) Crashes during Import from Camera (PANASONIC PV-GS500). I use 24GHz MacBook Pro with 4Gig of RAM. Importing to OWC 500Gig RAID drive, as well as to the internal 200Gig 7200 RPM drive. So it certainly looks like not because of hardware. I tried to remove DIVX and Pearl plugins from QT folder in Library as it was suggested in previous postings to no success. It seems like I am not the only one with this problem here. If iMovie cannot import from camera then what is it good for? By the way, the previous version of iMovie works fine importing etc. Did I just wasted $79.00? Anybody knows the solution? I hope somebody can help.
FOUND FIX
I found this fix in another thread post. iMovie 7 appears to be bugged, but you can import movies if you download iMovie6 HD. It's apparently free from apple for iLife 08 users.
Here's the link so you can download it.
http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Hours spent trying all sorts and iMovie HD ... just seems to work. Someone suggested that I use an external HD to improve performance. Just make sure you don't use Fat32 because it bombs when the file size gets to 2GB lol. It's a limitation of the Fat32 format. Since you can't access NTFS directly, you're a bit stuffed if you want to use the external HD with you Mac and PC. Either format it for your mac or your pc.

my iphone 5 crashes (restarts) automatically after updating to ios 7.1 anyboday facing same issues ? Need help !!!!
I am having the same issues--just got off phone with customer service rep--was told that my phone is in recoveyr mode and that I would have to restore it, however, the only things that would be restored would be from my last backup which was in November 2013! I was also told that apple users should not update as soon as the update is available (so why are they sending it to us if they're not sure that there will be any problems!!!). I can't restore now since I am in work--will do it when I go home tonight. In the meantime, I am without a working iphone for the day! This is horrible--I see I'm not the only one who has experienced this!

IPhoto 6.0.5 Crashes when opening after asking to import photos not in lib
Hi, I wonder if any one can help me with this. Each time i open iPhoto (6.0.5) I get a message stating "67 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library folder that were not imported. Would you like to import them?" if I click yes the program starts to import them then crashes. The next time I try to open the same message appears this time saying 96 photos have been found. Occasionally it will produce a dialogue box stating that some of the photos are duplicates and I check the box to same don't import but it the crashes in the same way. If I click no to the import iPhoto opens fine.
I have already tried doing a full rebuild of the cache and a repair of the disk permissions but the same problem occurs. Obviously the simplest solution is just to click no but is there any way of finding these photos in my Library and deleting them?
Black MacBook 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM OS 10.4.7Hi! Here's what I think is happening:
- A bad image or file in those 67 photos is causing iPhoto to crash.
- iPhoto, when it is trying to import, puts those photos in a temporary folder while it organizes the photos into the Originals folder by year and roll, creates thumbnails and does general tasks.
- Every time it encounters the bad file, it crashes and leaves the import unfinished. On relaunch, it wants to start importing again.
You have to break the cycle and hopefully find the bad image file. Go into your iPhoto Library and look for a folder called "Import". Remove that folder, or iPhoto will keep trying to import from it. You can manually attempt to import those 67 photos later, to identify the bad file. -
IMovie '11 crashing during import
I'm a tech in a school district and am having a LOT of issues with iLife '11. I'm not sure if it's from the workflow we used to upgrade to '11 or if it is the application.
On several teacher computers, they tell me iMovie has disappeared. Sure enough, it is no longer in their Applications folder. So I check iPhoto and it is working just fine. I can't figure out how I could install iLife and only iMovie is missing from the suite.
So I reinstall iLife (from a disk stored on our shared folder on the main server). Once I do that, iPhoto breaks! So I reinstall iLife again, and all seems to be going ok, except a teacher has now told me that iMovie is crashing during an import from her video camera. It starts importing and looks good, but then crashes after several minutes of importing.
Will continue to monitor for new updates, but hope if someone has a good answer, they will share. Is there a file that is corrupt that is not getting written over during the reinstall?
Thanks for any help.

Help,
after opening iphoto this morning and importing a bunch of photos from my camera I started getting constant crashes. I successfully imported the photos (first connection), then I took some more and connected my camera agian for a second import. Shortly after that iphoto (9.3.2) crashed. At that stage I was running 10.8. I have unable to successfully open iphoto all day - at least 20-30 attempts. I have restarted. Verified and repaired disk permissions. Verified the disk. Ran a hardware test. No apparent problems and no improvment to iphoto. I downloaded the 10.8.1 upgrade this afternoon - no fix.
I have ran the rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager - built a new library but could not connect to iphoto to complete the library copy/rebuild.
This is not the only crash problem I have been experiencing with Moutain Lion. I have also had similar, yet not as persistent, problems with iTunes - requiring a new libary rebuild. This caused all of my apps to disappear off my ipad. They still existed in the media files (music/itunes/media/etc) but had to be manually copied back to the itunes lib.
Also third party apps are crashing. Vectorworks 2012, Livesribe, Endnote X5.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion was the worst apple software experience I have ever had. I'm a 10-15 year user.
It took me clean installing 7 times. Back tracking to Snow Leopard, then a new user install of 10.8. Took me 4 days and required too many time machine recoveries. I seemed to have some serious corrupt file issues rleated to using migration assistant over a number of machines????
I digress.Back to iPhoto. Any ideas of this error report:

14 libsystem_c.dylib 0x9a28ecca start_I was having a similar problem. After upgrading to iPhoto 9.3.2, it was continuously crashing when I tried to open it. I re-installed OSX, upgraded to Mountain Lion, checked my memory, installed a new HD, deleted every plist, db, and cache, did a complete re-install of all of my applications and data only to have none of it work. The final solution was very unsophisticated, I installed an old version of iLife11 which "broke" the installation of iPhoto (it wouldn't run at all) and then I installed a fresh copy of iPhoto 9.3.2. Problem solved! I certainly don't guarantee that this will work for anyone else, but I wanted to pass it along just in case it works for someone else.

RoboHelp10 crashes during development after adding Captivate 7 swf
I think I have found the cause of my RH10 crashes, but I am looking for confirmation before launching a 6 month development project.
I am embedding CP7 SWFs in RH10 topics.
ENVIRONMENT
Win 7 64 bit
Dell 2 core, 4GB RAM
RH 10.0.1.292
CP 7.0.1.237
If I embed a CP7 demo as in CASE ONE below, RH crashes while I am working on the project. If I generate, the executable runs flawlessly. The crash is always during development. The exact action leading to the crash appears to be random. The crash occurs unpredictably after working on the project for 5-15 minutes.
If I embed a CP7 demo as in CASE TWO below I have been able to write in RH all day w/o a crash.
What is so evil about the first case? I suspect an issue with the baggage files, but can’t imagine what.
CASE ONE
The files needed to play the SWF (.swf, .htm, .css and .js) are added as baggage files like this:
The link to launch the video works like this:
The generated project plays perfectly, like this:
CASE TWO
I clicked inside a topic then did:
That gave me a topic like this:
I didn’t put the topic above in the TOC. Instead I created a TOC topic that linked to it like this:
The generated project plays the topic perfectly, like this:
The questions before committing to months of development are:
Did I find the cause of the crash?
Is it safe to commit to major development using RH as in CASE TWO with the expectation that I will not have RH crashing every 10-15 min?
Best,
TedHi Ted
Question here. For your case 1, is Captivate open still? Perhaps with that project loaded? I've seen it where things get really wonky if you work that way. It's as if Captivate still has some hooks in the project even after it has generated the output files.
If that's what you are doing, you might try closing Captivate and see if the crashing stops.
Additionally, it's worth noting that when Captivate creates the output files and you import them as Baggage into RoboHelp, the HTML file Captivate creates will have different coding than you will see if you simply insert a Captivate SWF into a topic.
Apologies in advance if you already knew any of this, but here is my own criteria for co-mingling Captivate with RoboHelp.
If I have a RoboHelp topic that has other information inside and I want that Captivate demo to be viewed right from inside the topic, I'll just insert the SWF. But if that Captivate demo is so large that it really warrants full screen viewing, I'll likely import the files as Baggage and establish a link that points to the Captivate HTML page to open things up.
Not sure if I've managed to actually help here. But hopefully I've done no harm.

IPhoto 8.1.2 bug during import
For whatever reason, my iPhoto gives me this error, whether I import through my Canon MX700 card reader, or after copying the photos to my hard drive and then importing into iPhoto. If I hit cancel or OK, it won't import the photo, if I hit Find photo I can tag the photo for importing. And the problem is, it might happen to a series of 30 photos in a row, and then work fine. So I get the same window over and over again, one on top of another during import, requiring me to find each photo. Any reason why this happens with iPhoto 8.1.2? And is there a fix short of upgrading to a new version of iPhoto?
I'm running 10.6.7 on an iMac 5,1.I was sure it those fixes wouldn't be viable when rereading regarding the card reader. But we never know. The following 3 fixes are somewhat standard fixes that tend to fix most library problems. The first fix, the preference file, fixes problems you would never believe could be associated with a preference file.
make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -
My iphoto 5.0.4 software crashes whenever I try to download a large number of photos (e.g., 300+). It manages to download 70 or so; then it gives me an error message.
I am running a G3 Imac DV SE with the current OS. Is this a memory issue or something else? I've got 1gig of RAM, mind you iphoto does run quite slowly.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!Hello mpb!
One reason it might crash during a large download could be that your camera's "power saver / sleep" options go into affect before the download is completed.
You can try a large download next time by using Image Capture instead of downloading directly to iPhoto. You will need to open Image Capture set preferences for Image Capture to open or nothing to open when a camera is connected. If you try this method, make sure you first create a new folder on your desktop to download images to and then you can simply import these images to iPhoto by dragging the folder to iPhoto icon or window. If this works, at least you've somewhat isolated the problem to iPhoto...
I would make sure that the power saver options on your camera are not kicking in before any download is completed.

IPhoto 9.4.3 crashes when import requested
Whether from the keyboard: shift / command / i or from the pull down menu: File / Import to Library
iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes every time, before opening a window to allow a file to be selected for import.
For me this is a brand new fault. iPhoto has been running on this system for years without a problem. Immediately prior to this fault, I successfully imported photos from two cameras and from my desktop.
I've restarted the Mac that runs 10.7.5, restared iPhoto, but the same thing happens. I relaunched iPhoto and selected a different library and the same thing happens. Here are the first 60 lines:
