Iphoto ( ilife 06) lost all of my icons to link back to my iphoto pics!

I have 21,000 images in my iphoto 06 application and it asked me to rebuild the desktop images.. i clicked yes and then it was rebuilding and when i came back to check on the progress- all of the images were gone- pooof! i checked the images folder and found that the files were there... and when i click on the file in the iphoto image browser.. it has a "?".... i thought of re-importing the images... but i had 21,000 organized... in about 124 folders... any suggestions? like a fresh rebuild from the source files? help! thanks a bunch!

some things to try:
Download BatchMod from
http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
or
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options.
or
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Upgraded to iphoto 11 and lost all pictures

Perhaps my question has been answered in another area, but I couldn't find it.  I, like others who have upgraded to iphoto 11 have lost all my pictures.  They are not on the new iphoto version nor in any of the picture library files.  Are they gone?  If not, where do I start looking for them?  Never had a problem like this before.  Any Advice?
    Thanks.

What system are you running and what version of iPhoto do you currenty have? How did you perform the upgrade? From an iLife disc or from the App Store?
Is there an iPhoto Library package in your Pictures fodler?  If so what is its size as shown in the Finder?
Is that size large enought to include your photos?

    Hey linfrommi,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are having trouble locating some application after the update to iOS 7. To troubleshoot this issue, let’s reset the home screen layout of your iPhone, which should move all of your applications to the second “page”:

  • I updated iPhoto 4 with iPhoto 5 and lost all my photos!

I updated iPhoto 4 with iPhoto 5 and lost all my FRICKIN photos! Anyone else have this problem? If I do a search for img_ I do get about 3800 photos, so they do still seem to exist in various locations with multiple duplicates and/or photos that are different but have the same name. I know if I try moving them all to one location I'll get the message "Do you want to replace?" many many times. Any suggestions?

  • Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore al photos on iPhoto?

Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore all photos on iPhoto on Macbookair?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • HT1752 Hello, I updated my MacBook with OS X and lost all my photos (about 7 years of photos) on iphoto (now empty). Are they completely lost or is there a way I can retrieve them from my computer?

Hello, I updated my MacBook with OS X and lost all my photos (about 7 years of photos) on iphoto (now empty). Are they completely lost or is there a way I can retrieve them from my computer?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • IPhoto library has lost all my landscape photos.

Hi,  My iPhoto library has lost all my landscape photos (the thumbnails are there, but no photos when you try to slide show them).
I've tried reverting to original and restoring the library.  No luck.
I have them all in a back up outside of iPhoto - as individual jpg files.  Can Iphoto help to re-import the missing ones bring them back into the library?
I'm hoping to avoid having to start from scratch!!!
I don't know what caused the issues - I haven't made any changes to the back end!!!
    Thanks.

    If that doesn't help...
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Use the Firewire cable and t boot the old Mac's hard drive to the new Mac's desktop and transfer your entire iPhoto folder.
Use Disk Utiliy to erase'format HFS+ Journaled your TimeMachine drive and use the free Carbon Copy Cloner and clone your new boot drive to the external, it's hold option bootable.

    natasharileyparish:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If Terence's suggestion regarding rebuilding the library does not bring your library back you'll probably have to start with a new library and import the Originals folder from the old library. Here's how:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the iPhoto library folder from the desktop. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • On upgrading my iphone to ios 5, I have lost all music purchaes since August, despite backing up the phone.  How do i get them back again?

On upgrading my iphone 3Gs to ios 5, I have lost all music purchaes made on the phone since August, despite backing up the phone.  How do I get them back again?  Thanks.

I'm having the same problem on an iphone 4s running iOS8; when i updated to iOS8, all my ringtones went missing, and when i got a £50 gift card for christmas (2014), I purchased some songs from the iTunes store on my iPhone. i downloaded songs from paramore, panic! at the disco, coldplay, and imagine dragons, over wi-fi, and they went into my iphone music library; but when i re-opened the music app a few days later, in a place where i had no wi-fi, except for my 3G phone signal, some cloud icons appeared next to my newly purchased songs, telling me to re-download them from the cloud, when i haven't even deleted them. this has happened twice now, and i had to use up some of my 5GB data allowance to redownload them from the cloud. This is annoying and i need to fix this issue ASAP.

  • Trying to use the plug in to switch from iPhoto to lightroom but all I get is a window that says "checking iPhoto library" Whats happening?

rying to use the plug in to switch from iPhoto to lightroom

    1. Back up your Library now. You don't use iPhoto to back it up, you can do it simply by dragging the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the External Disk
    2.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto Library's Lost All Photos

    OS 10.4.10
    Ibook G4
    1.5 GB Ram
    iPhoto 5.0.4
    Hi,
My first time on iPhoto group.
I've been using iPhoto successfully since I got my mac, 2 years ago.
I may not be using many of the features available. I download digital
pictures, and I take pictures of web pictures with the key code ctrl/click >
    Download to iPhoto.
Today I took a picture and got a couple of windows. I can't recreate them
now, but they said something like "Can't find iPhoto Library"
When I open the iPhoto application, none of some one hundred pictures show
    up.
I recall starting a full backup to external HD, and learning the export
part of iPhoto. I did it. Then I had to stop the back up because I had to
do something that the backup interferred with. In an export, don't the
original pictures stay in the application?
I have some things in my Pictures folders. There are a few scatterred
pictures from my collection, but not the whole thing.
    Where does "Export"export to?
I see now that many of my photos are scattered in my Pictures folders along
    with my .pngs.
There are also lots of files that look like this <DSCF0001.jpg> but they
don't open. A window pops up that says
"Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that preview
    doesn't recognize."
Of course, Iphoto doesn't open in Preview, does it?
I have a feeling I messed something up when I "exported".
Any way I can recreate my collection?
I know I've never gotten past just downloading the pictures and having all
of them remain on one iPhoto screen. I've never gotten into rolls or
    libraries etc.
    Thanks,
    Rafael

Is there an item named "iPhoto Library.photo library" or similar in your "Pictures" folder, showing with an icon like a fan of pictures?
Or did you store your iPhoto Library in a different folder, perhaps on an external drive?
if you cannot find your iPhoto Library search for it with Find Any File, as described  by Old Toad in this post:
Re: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?

Re: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?in response to onpurpose
Download and use Find Any File to search for a file named "iPhoto6.Library".  It's a file unique to all iPhoto libraries.
FAF an search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, packages and system files.  If there's another iPhoto library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Lost all desktop layout apps in dock/content of iTunes, iPhoto, EyeTV

Hi .. I've now had my iMac for just under three weeks and was thrilled with ease of replication of all settings, apps, content etc. etc. from my iBook via FireWire. Brilliant!
BUT.... this morning, on startup, was surpised to find that EyeTV, IPhoto etc. Word for Mac, and most of my programs had gone from dock and now all ask me to agree to terms of use (in other words as if first ever opening of software which has all been in daily use). Word, Excel for Mac etc. seem to have lost their memory - they have no listing of files most recently opened and so on.
There is absolutely NO content in iPhoto (entire photo library gone!), iTunes (my saved and purchased music gone!); EyeTV (recorded programs gone!). etc. etc.
Has anyone got any idea what might have happened and how to fix this? Yesterday, via software updates, I selected and downloaded an iDVD update as I'd wanted to start using this program for first time ever ... Could this possibly have caused such major havoc? Everything was OK when I powered down last night...
    HELP!
    thanks
    Jenel

    Hi Ian
Well, I hadn't realised that I had - but you're absolutely right! I now remember that I didn't like the photo that Photobooth had attached as My Account image and tried to change that.
I was surprised to find that there are two Accounts there - one as Jenny XXXXX and the other as Jennifer XXXXX. The Jennifer probably came across from the iBook and Jenny would have been on this machine. I'd really appreciate your help on how to unite them into one and be sure to get ALL my preferences and content under that one as I want to network the two machines...
    thanks so much
    Jenny

  • Iphoto lost all photos - can i copy photos back from ipod to mac?

Had an issue with corrupt files in my iphoto library. Did a bunch of stuff and upgraded etc....now iphoto is running fine...
lost a bunch of photos.. basically all corrupt and/or missing
I do have them all on my 5th gen ipod... is there anyway i can transfer photos FROM my ipod TO my mac????

Yes and no. If you had the iPod set to copy the photos as originals, then you will get the "original" photographs back (turn on disk mode and you will find them easily enough). If however, you didn't have this preference set then you will not have the "proper" photographs on there. You will just have the small scaled images which you can see on the iPod. However, if you enable disk mode you should balso be able to get these if you so wish. After all, the thumbnails will be better than nothing if the photos were important.
