iPhoto suddenly quit while importing photos from camera unable to import photos from camera that were imported before iPhoto quit. Photos are still on the camera however iPhoto only "sees" the photos that were not imported on this computer. I can connect to my other mac and see all the photos. This has happened before and I wanted to learn how to deal with this problem. Thanks Ed
I am using a MacBook Pro OS 10.9.2, iPhoto 9.5.1 connected via usb to a Canon G12. I have had this issue before when importing photos. I can work around by using my other Mac and download the photos. I believe that there maybe a setting on the Mac that prevents duplicating photo downloads that may be preventing me from seeing these photos stored in the camera memory although I can view them on the camera.

I am trying to open iPhoto for the first time after purchasing iLife today and following the installation procedure. I get the box saying that my photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. When I click Upgrade, with two minutes left, it stops and says iphoto was suddenly interrupted. I've never used Photoshop or any other touch up software. I can't seem to open iPhoto to change any system preferences etc. When I try to open iPhoto, the options are Quit or Upgrade which leads to the suddenly interrupted message. I'd really appreciate any suggestions but please keep in mind I need really basic instructions. Not too good at this yet. This discussion forum is very impressive. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you run all of the iPhoto updates before you tried to open the library? If not, run the 6.0.4 and then the 6.0.5 updater followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Next download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Do you have a backup copy of your original V5 library folder?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) "iPhoto unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows"
When I try to open iPhoto, it says "iPhoto unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows," then gives me the option of restoring the windows or not. Whatever one I click, iPhoto opens for a second and displays a blank gray screen, then quickly closes and a notification pops up that says "iPhoto closed unexpectedly" and displays the following info. How do I fix this???

As i said above it was a test. It tells us that iPhoto is fine and that the problem is within your main Library.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -
My MacBook Pro will suddenly quit while I'm working on it and restarts itself.
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion with a 27-inch Apple Cinema Display connected to it that I use at work. I am an art director so I am constantly in Adobe Creative Suite 6. In the past month my MacBook Pro has suddenly quit on me while working and restarts itself TWICE. This time I was listening to a downloaded album on iTunes and the music started to skip right before the computer crashed and restarted itself. Has anyone ever experienced this before? It doesn't freeze up or anything like that, it will just unexpectedly go into Restart mode & the computer restarts. Everything is fine once it restarts but I am wondering if I should be concerned or if someone might know of a repair solution I could do on the computer. Should I run Disk Utilites to see if their is an issue? Would appreciate any comments and suggestions and feel free to ask may any question. THANKS!!

Trying to upload a photo book to apple for purchase, but once I pass the purchase page and it is uploading - it always 'unexpectedly' quits?

Photo gallery freezing; unable to view photos
I have been having problems with my Gallaxy's photo gallery since before the upgrade. When I go into my gallery to view my photos I can't click on one to bring it up and if it lets me scroll through the gallery, it will freeze up. I have done everything that has been suggested from unmounting the SD card to clearing the cache and forcing stop the gallery. I have turned the phone off and removed the battery as well as the SD and SIM card. I do not want to do a factory data reset, because obviously the photo gallery problem is a known issue. I will lose all of things stored in my phone for a temporary solution, I think not. The SD card is not defective as I have checked it out on other phones as well as my computer. If there weren't so many useless apps loaded on the phone, perhaps the gallery would not be an issue. Are there any other solutions to this problem?????

Yikes! You have done a lot of troubleshooting on your device! We appreciate you taking the time to check into the issue on your own. Before doing a factory reset, I would recommend trying Safe Mode: http://vz.to/1iNs3y3 Safe mode runs the phone without any apps running, which helps to determine if there is an app causing the issue. Also, can you confirm which specific Galaxy model you have? Please let us know if this helps!

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library? It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library. I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one. They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device." I hadn't touched the camera. The message came by itself. I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit. Opening it back up, the pictures were gone. Can somebody help me?
What version of iPhoto are you running? Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I created an album from photos taken off three different cameras. I am sorting the photos manually and when I close iPhoto, the photos move back either by date or by camera import time. How can I keep the photos from moving around?

iphoto will not import my photos from my digital camera because it says it is having a problem downloading my photos. I'm using the same digital camera I have always had and have the current version of iphoto and am using snowleapord 10.6.8. Any thoughts?

I just finally got a new IMAC. i am importing my PC photo library . Everytime I import a folder/album iphoto quits..
It is very frustrating and i am thinking to go back to pc...what is the problem with iphoto? any other software may be similar in concept with the pc ones..1. There was no need to delete all your Exif data. One field may have ben faulty at most.
2. Did you try Open and Save a file in Preview and then import? This will fix a lot of mal-formed medatata issues.
3. Did you try make a new library and see if they would import there?
I'm on this forum for a long while. I've never seen "remove all metadata suggested as a solution for this - or any - issue.

IPhoto worked great; with Photo I can no longer import pictures from my camera. Why?
I never had a single problem importing photos using a USB connection between camera and iMac. Since the new Photos was automatically installed with the latest OS Yosemite update, I no longer can import photos...the screen automatically opens, it shows all the photos on my camera, it allows me to choose which photo(s) I want to import and then I click "Import" and I get a nasty message that my photos to be imported are NOT in the correct format. Well, what the heck format are they supposed to be in? I see nowhere on my camera where I can change a format...
HELP!!!! I need to import photos of my granddaughter's First Communion for my entire family and the photos are stuck on my camera!!Backup cycle - running you normally computer backup - you do have a regular backup going don't you?
Image Capture is an application in your Applications folder exactly as I stated
Try Image capture (in your applications folder) or a card Reader - once the photos are safely on your mac and at least one successful backup cycle has run use the camera's format command to reformat the card
In order to import as before you have to solve the problem that you have
In irder to solve the problem you have to read and follow directiopns
Simply posting crazy comments and not fooling directions will not resolve your problem

What does this crash report mean?
