  • IPhoto will not open, saying that the app is being updated - but it is not being updated. Help please!

    Hello all
My iPhoto will not open.  I get a system popup saying "iPhoto is being updated.  iPhoto cannot be opened while it is being updated".
I have checked and it is not being updated and I have restarted the Mac.
    Suggestions will be gratefully received!
    Many thanks!

    Try delete it and reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • I have a os x 10.6.8 and my iphoto will not open just has the searching icon on it all the time, can anyone help?

I have an os x 10.6.8 and my iphoto will not open, just has the searching icon going round & round! Can anyone help?

backup your iPhoto library and launch iPhoto while holding the option and command keys down until the first aid window appears - repair your database and if necessary rebuild the database

  • Iphoto will not open, says it is not the same version

You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?
This is the message I get when I double click on my iphoto icon from my hard drive. When I hit quit on the message box it does nothing. It just sits there with a blank screen and then disappears.
    Any advice!

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • IPhoto will not open - says: Library created with unreleased version

I can't even open the app. due to a message that reads "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto. Please quit and update this photo library by opening it in iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4." I haven't done anything to the library recently. I did install Photoshop Elements and upgrade to OS 10.5 within the last few days. I got the same message in iPhoto before the upgrade to OS 10.5 however. Can anyone help me get my iPhoto open?

    Olla:
Give Terence's suggestion a try. You'll end up with a new library and your old one for further attempts at fixing.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ITunes will not open because library was created by newer version???

I am still using iTunes 9.2.1 and am not ready to go with v10.
I tried to open iTunes and got the message:
The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
I did notice that the last time I opened it, it looked a little different but went on with a sync of my 1st.gen AppleTV and then closed out.
I have not downloaded and upgraded to the newer version 10.
I have never had higher than 9.2.1 so I couldn't help but wonder if in some way I am being forced to go the newer v10.
    Harold

    I have discovered this:
I could not open iTunes as I previously stated in the normal method.
However, it will open when I created a quicktime movie from iMovies and prepared it for iTunes. When I click on the quicktime movie to play it will open iTunes to play the movie. That is when I see the different icons, etc.
I had something called ‘Ping’ to disable because I care nothing about that.
It does not look the same as I am use to with 9.2.1.
I went to the file menu> about> and low and behold it comes up ITUNES 10.
Remember, I have not downloaded ver.10 at any point so it must have come through a back door somehow.
So, I looked in my applications to see if iTunes app has changed. No, it still shows 9.2.1. I did a search in spotlight for iTunes 10 and nothing shows up. Go figure!
I am not a happy camper at this time and need to hear from Apple about this.
I am not ready to go to v10 and want an explanation.
I am not ready to go with v10 because I wanted to see how it effects my 1st. gen. AppleTV.
I don’t want to loose all the downloads I have on a device that I really like.
The new AppleTV has no hard drive and thus stores nothing as I understand it.
I have many TV programs purchased and stored from the History, Travel and Natl. Geographic, etc. channels.

iphoto will not open says its damaged or incomplete?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what exact message do you get when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • IPhoto will not open after Mac App update ......saying Prokit is incompatible.

I upgraded on my iMac, as suggested through new updates in my Mac apps store, several apps - including iPhoto.  And now, my iPhoto, which worked 2 weeks ago will not open saying is not compatible with ProKit.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled ProKit....to which every time I am told I have a higher version already in the system?  I have used my Time Machine back up and with same result.  I had purchased the new iPhoto through the App Store thinking it would help....and have reinstalled many times with no result.
This is the note I get:
    Application Specific Information:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'RunTimeThemeRefForBundleIdentifier() couldn't find AppThemeBits.car in bundle with identifier: com.apple.iLifeKit'
My Aperture is working, but no iPhoto. Please help.

Also, I have reinstalled my Operating System with no results.

  • IPhoto will not open. Error message says I must upgrade. But APP store says it is already installed?

iPhoto will not open. Error message says I must upgrade but the AppStore indicates that the newest version of iPhoto is installed so how can I upgrade and why did it stop working in the first place? What is the problem?

Hi Terence. I solved my problem. Apparently a 9.5.1 version of iPhoto was dowloaded, backed up on Ext Drive then deleted from the Mac HD...Leaving the old version 9.4.3 still resident on the Mac HD.
    Thanks for responding.

  • After a power failure while iPhoto was running, I get the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"  and iPhoto will not open????

After a power failure while iPhoto was running, I get the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"  and iPhoto will not open???? held down the option and the command and tried to run what was ticked off and it just sits there with a spinning wheel and does nothing, can I throw the app away and download a new one? or will it still not open?

, can I throw the app away and download a new one? or will it still not open?
You could, but the error message is indicating that your iPhoto library needs repairing.
Check, if iPhoto will run, if you launch it on a new library. Hold down the alt/option key, while you launch iPhoto. Select to create a new library from the panel that will show. Can you create a new library? If yes, try again to fix the library. Which options have you tried from the Library First Aid panel, when you launched iPhoto with the option and command key held down?
If you have not tried "Rebuild"; do that next. But be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library, before you try this.

  • Downloaded and installed yosemite. Now iPhoto will not open and when i try to update it it says not available for my apple id. Help

Downloaded yosemite OSX 10.10 and now iPhoto will not open. When I try to update to iPhoto 9.6, it tells me it can not be be downloaded with "this Apple ID. It is the only Apple ID I have ever had. Please help

    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • I'm using an iMac running OS X 10.9.2 and since i installed mavericks my iPhoto will not open.  Can anyone help please?

my iPhoto will not open since I installed Mavericks.  Can anyone help with this please?

Do you have one of the versions that are shown here with the forbidden symbol over them:
If so you'll need to upgrade iPhoto to 9.5.1 from the App Store.  It'll be a free upgrade.

  • IPhoto will not open at all

This is a strange one!  iPhoto will not open - I get the message that it is not the right version or something - see attached.  (StartUp drive is SCS Mac 500HD)
OK so I take my 36 hour old full SuperSuper! Backup and make that the startup drive - D1-LaCie 505gb MBP BkUp2.  I use iPhoto (from the backup or the "main" drive) and both work fine-- all libraries from both HD's as well as other internal and external drives work (yes, I have a second internal HD on my MBP-13" - removed the DVD drive).
So I am guessing this has to do with something corrupt in the iPhoto plist on my main drive or ???? something.  The HD's all have been verified and are perfect; and disk permissions have been repaired.
Any comments on what to "trash" / "rebuild" or ??? --- again, all works perfectly when I startup from my BackUp FireWire external HD.  All iPhoto libraries open just fine.
THANKS!  I'll keep experimenting but haven't found a solution yet.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte
