Ipod battery discharges quickly

Ok... I've been through all the FAQ's, suggestions, tips for long battery life, and I still am having my problem.
I began having problems with the battery not holding a charge for more than 12 hours (turned off) and discharging quite quickly (from a full charge, it would be dead in 15 minutes of audio only with no backlight).
Since my Ipod is over a year old and I didn't purchase a service plan (received as a gift), I replaced the battery from a 3rd party vendor. It's working again, however the battery still discharges faster than it's supposed to (about 45 minutes of music alone).
I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this, what the solution could have been, and if one of a few situations could be happening:
1. Could there be a condition that would cause some sort of short that would discharge the battery while the unit still performs as expected (menus, plays audio and video fine, etc.)?
2. Is there something that could actually be reading the battery as being dead when it's not?
3. Could it simply be that the battery I purchased is junk and I need to get a new one?
  Windows XP

This doesnt answer your problem but i had the same problem with one of my ipods, i took it to pcworld, and all of their technicians had a look of it and none of them could fix it. I then got a new ipod, an the same problem.Aparently it was a software problem or a problem with my computer. Anyway i got a new ipod as mines was still under warranty and i used the new ipod only on my laptop, and havent had the problem since.

  • Iphone battery discharging quickly

My iPhone battery is discharging very quickly even when phone/ instrument is switched off. could some apps be running in the background on wifi? What do I need to do to prevent this?

I have had Iphones sinc the first one and now have a 4s and over the last few days mine has started discharging very quickly also.  I charged it at work yesterday and left work at 6pm and it was at 100% at 8pm it was already down to 70%.  There is something that has changed on mine and I can't figure it out. I have turned off Push and Location services so I'll see how it does today.  I have not synced it for at least a week so I know there wasn't an update that caused it   Mine is also running on 5.1.
I unpluged it this morning at 100% at 8am and it is now 11am and I am at 95% with all the above stuff turned off and it just sitting on my desk in sleep mode.

  • TS3274 iPad battery discharges quickly

My iPad battery doesn't stay charged very long.

The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter..
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

CoconutBattery says 4778 mAh left from 5020mAh (95%), and 31 months old.
I understand from reading here that 379 cycles would be considered moderately high, but the 95% figure is encouraging to me.
The problem is this: From full charge, I get only 25-30% of the estimated time. It starts at 5+ hours remaining, and drops quickly. I noticed last night that I had ca. 1 hr. remaining, and I had to switch to charger within about 15 minutes.
I have recalibrated the battery multiple times, and reset the SMC multiple times. After this problem started, I began to monitor processor usage and it's typically between 80-95% idle. Only if I watch youtube videos or something does it get busier, but I expect that and I see this problem even when I don't do processor-intensive tasks.
I want to say when I first got this machine there would be times using it that the fan did not run at all. Lately it seems like it runs all the time, albeit slowly/quietly. I just installed smcFanControl to see the rpm and it's at +/-1800 rpm with the cpu ~90% idle and about 56ºC.
I also ran into the "battery indicator X" problem once back in the Spring, but I removed & reinstalled the battery and the problem has not recurred.
Have not contacted Apple yet but I do have AppleCare on the machine. Is it worth taking in? Any ideas as to what might be going on?
    Thanks!
EDIT: It also discharges faster than I would expect whilst the machine is asleep.

It's a less common form of failure, but certainly not unheard of.
Modern batteries work by storing energy via chemicals. Some really strong acid to be specific. Every time you pass an electrical current through that acid, you change the chemistry a little bit. Over time, you change it enough that the energy storing properties no longer exist. Different batteries will be altered in different ways because of different circumstances. Yours fell into the broad group of quickly loses charge. If we were to carefully analyze your usage history of the battery, it would probably become clear why yours fell into the category it did... But it's really not worth that kind of effort. At almost 400 cycles, the thing is already on borrowed time, so consider yourself lucky it works at all.

    Hello,
After updating to the latest firmware update (1.0.04.12210), the reader will discharge the battery in 2 to 3 days of light use. I have 4 PRS-T1 readers and all are experiencing the same thing after the firmware update.

  • Why does my iPod touch 4 battery die quick and charge quick?

When i use my ipod the battery dies quickly and as soon as i put it on charge it charges fully in less than 15mins

If you charge for four or more hours how long does a full charge last?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Noika E5 Battery is discharge quickly

    Hi All,
    I purchased Nokia E5 on  1st May 2012 ,  i.e. 10 month before, But now from lst 2-3 month
come to know  Battery is discharge quickly after making it full charge.
Can you please suggest , what to do ?
Can I get replacement  of it , and how much time it will take to check battery ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    PrashantJ

Is there any change in pattern of use ? Have you started using applications like WhatsApp that may be the reason !!
Anyway, the Warranty on Battery is 6 months so if the Battery itself is at fault then you will have to buy a new one. The actual checking time may be a few minutes but it depends on your local Nokia Care ..

  • My ipod shuffle battery dies quickly.  Any suggestions?

My ipod shuffle battery dies quickly and when I plug it in to charge it just blinks orange. . .

    Hello jharris1222,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The blinking orange status light indicates that the device is syncing with iTunes.  Please see the following for more information:
Blinking orange indicates that the unit is syncing with iTunes or that disk use was enabled in iTunes. In this state, iPod shuffle may be charging or fully charged. Check the charge status icon next to the iPod shuffle in iTunes or eject iPod shuffle from iTunes but leave it connected to USB and determine if the status light changes to solid green or solid orange.

  • IPod Battery Drains Very Quickly - NEW BATTERY 3 TIMES

    Hello all,
I have a problem with my iPod 5G 60gb video. I've had it for a few years, about a year ago it started losing its battery very quickly. I replaced the battery 2 or 3 times, but this did nothing. I can charge it up fine, but it seems it drains much quicker than normal. The main problem is that it drains even when the iPod is in sleep mode. If I leave it overnight, it will be dead in the morning.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a motherboard problem? I'm sure it's not the battery.
    Thanks.

    I forgot to add:
I restored the iPod via iTunes once, nothing changed. I turned backlight down all the way, no significant difference. I have no alarm clocks on, and turned off all clocks on the iPod as well.

Try to set it up as new device:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If this does not help, try again, this time without using the latest backup.
If you are using push/fetch for your mail, deleting the account and setting it up again after a restart could also solve your problem.
