IPod Touch "already synced with another library", Corrupt Backup?

I plugged my iPod into the only PC it's ever been plugged into today, and it came up with "This Ipod is already synced with another library" when I tried to sync it. I tried a variety of solutions I found on the internet, but none seemed to work.
So, I decided to give in and do "Erase and Sync". Before I did that, however, I created a new encrypted backup of the iPod using the option in the iPod summary window. I erased the iPod and re-synced, so it has all of my music and apps on it now.
However, whenever I try to restore from the backup, I get a message akin to "The restore cannot complete due to an error" (with no identification of the error. Immediately following this, the iPod begins to say "This iPod is already synced with another library" again, and I'm forced to start over.
The iPod is in a workable condition - all of my music and apps were saved, after all. However, none of my settings are in place, and I would really like to avoid having to set everything up again. Is there a way to un-corrupt the backup (or undo whatever has happened to it) so that I can get my settings back? Or am I out of luck?

I think that, for some reason, none of the backups that were being made are listed any longer. The only ones listed are four that have timestamps after I erased, one with the earliest timestamp that's the encrypted backup, and another without a time stamp that I'm also assuming is later. I might give that one a try, but I'm not sure that it will work...

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

  • My library says my Ipod has been synced with another library, but it hasn't.

My Itunes library is saying that my Ipod isn't synced with that library and I have to erase and sync it. I haven't synced my Ipod to another library. I already erased and synced it again once, and now it's doing the same thing (and it deleted all the playlists I created on my library, but they're still on my Ipod). I don't want to have to erase and sync again, and lose my playlists. Why is it doing that?

  • Ipod is "supposedly" synced with another library

All of a sudden when I plug in my ipod, itunes tells me I am synced with another library...I'm not, I'm synced with this library and have been using this library fine. Any ideas??

Yes, itunes database files have an ITL file extension.
Sounds like you need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and file extensions, if you aren't seeing any.
It's in Folder Options, "Show hidden files and folders"
If you find previous ITL files, you can open them with a shift-start of itunes and see if it's a usable library.
Press *AND HOLD* the shift key while starting itunes. Keep pressing until you see the prompt to choose a library. Go through the ITL files you find in your search and settle on the best one.
If you don't find any ITL files you can use, you're going to have to rebuild your library. Just because the ITL file got corrupted doesn't mean all your music files are gone - they should still be on your PC's hard drive so you can add them back into itunes. All your play lists & ratings will be gone, but you'll still have the music.
Going forward, it's a good idea to make a backup of that ITL file about every week, and ALWAYS before and itunes upgrade. I put my backup copies on a USB stick or my external hard drive.

  • I get message that my iPod Touch is syning with another library

Had to fully reinstall WIndows XP and everything else, even iTunes. Now when I try to sync iTunes request authorization to sync my iPod with a new library, sine the new installation of iTunes in blank.
I tried several thigns, but I´m new to the iPod and Apple world and don´t know what else to try.
    HELP!!!!

This is how it works. Ipod touch will sync to one library at a time. Since you have re-installed this is a new library. It will erase the content first then replace with content from the computer.
Just use your backup copy to put your music on the new computer, then sync.

  • I cant sync my iphone to my re installed itunes.  It is saying my iphone is already synced with another library.  How do I get rid of that old Itunes library that I no longer have access too?

I recently re installed itunes (due to pc crashing).  When I connect my iphone to sync it is telling me my Iphone is already synced to another library.  I no longer have access to that library.  How do I delete that old library to enable me to sync to my new library?

You don't need to delete the old library, but it will take a little effort to transfer the allegiance of the device to your new one.
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Help!  Can't sync due to itunes says my ipod is already synced with another

I deleted and reinstalled i-tunes. Now, when I try to sync, it says my i-pod is synced with another computer. How do I get it to recognize this as the only computer that it is synced with?

Assuming that everything on the iPod is still in your iTunes library, just go ahead and let it re-sync the iPod and now it will be associated with the new library.
Is there anything on the iPod that you do not have safely stored on your computer?

  • Itunes is saying my own phone is already synced with another library

I am getting the message to say that my iphone is synced to another library. But it is my library that I am wanting to sync it with and have synced it with in the past. How do I make it recognise that its my phone?
The only thing that I have changed is that I used to autofill function to add music quickly to my husband's phone. I'm worried that this may have changed something?
I do not want to loose my apps and data... please help!

    This is correct.
As you have copied everything to your new computer, this shouldn't be a problem.

  • When i try and sync my phone with itunes Manually it says it already synced with another library "Admin" and will erase all content and replace with contrent from Itunes library

When I try to sync my Iphone with Itunes i am getting the error message about it being synced to another I tunes library.  I switched to manually manage music and now the eroor says i am synced to another itunes library "Admin" and all existing content on the phone will be replaced with content from the Itunes library.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Saved my Library to an external HD and now iTunes wants to erase my iPod Touch to sync with this library

I saved my iTunes Media Library to an external HD prior to reformatting my laptop. I have since reinstalled everything including iTunes. I pointed iTunes to the new Library location, signed into my account on iTunes and everything looks fine. All of my apps, podcasts, music, etc., all show up in iTunes and it even recognizes my iPod. Yay! HOWEVER, when I attempt to sync the iPod iTunes informs my that I can't have it synced to two Libraries and it wants to erase my iPod and sync it with the Library in the new location. I do not relish the thought of having to rearrange my entire 32gb iPod to my liking after erasing and syncing it. Is there anyone with knowledge in this area that can suggest something? Am I missing a setting somewhere or perhaps a work-around for this?

  • My laptop crashed so now its empty well i had to reinstall itunes but my ipod says its already synced with another library :( is there anyway to get my old library back on my laptop again

    Please Help!!!

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
