IPod Touch e-reader?

Hi, I'm interested in getting an iPod but I'd also like it to be able to double as an e-reader, like the Nook or Kindle. Is there an app for just the iPod Touch? All of the ones I've been seeing on iTunes are meant for the iPhone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
~ Kim

GPS, compass, and camera are the only three "iPhone only" things I can think of.
Another thing to note that ONLY compatible apps are shown to you when you use the App Store from your Touch. If you can see it in the Touch's App Store, then it's compatible.
Only the desktop iTunes App Store shows you everything including the "iPhone Only" stuff.

  • IPod touch being read as iPhone and wont restore.

    Hi,
Recently I paid to update my iPod touch 2nd gen 16gb to 3.0 firmware.
I bought my iPod about 3 weeks ago.
It was has been working fine, but now, it's reading my iPod Touch as an iPhone.
Before that, I would try to update it, and it would say the firmware corrupt error, and this was with ANY firmware I tried. I also went in to delete the corrupt file in the appdata sector, and there was nothing there.
Regardless, I deleted the folder, but it still has the corrupted firmware line. I also put it into recovery mode, and tried to update from there but it still said corrupted firmware.
This iPod as an iPhone is the newest problem though, I don't understand why it would pick it up as that.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.
I have not attempted to jailbreak or anything of that sort.
It does still work and function correctly besides the attempted updating and or restoring part.
Now it's reading as an iPod but still wont restore or update...
Any help would be nice, thanks!

    Hi,
Make sure the iPod touch is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC, using the cable that came with it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides other tips that will rule out USB connection issues.

  • Large PDF file (ebook) on ipod touch to read?

I have a large pdf file (7.0 mb, 445 pages) that I want to be able to read (without killing my eyes) on my overseas flight. I added the file via an app called file magnet. But it ran low on memory and crashed. Plus the text was very small.
I love the way ereader pro works but unsure if those books are in pdf format. Or if I can even add my own books?
Is this idea even possible for me to do?
    I would be
    a) willing to reformat the document if need be.
    b) pay for an app that would allow this.
    and/or both...
Thanks in advance for your help.

There are several iPhone/iPod Touch apps that can read PDF files. However, the ones I have found to not re-flow the text (if you find one, let use know).
While less than perfect, you can use the free desktop Stanza app
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/34623>
to convert a PDF to an ePub format which can be read via the free iPhone/iPod Touch Stanza app.
The iPhone/iPod Touch Stanza app can then change the font size, text color, background color, etc... And Stanza is a nice eBook reader.
The iPhone/iPod Touch Stanza app can download eBooks via several methods. From web sites that support Stanza (such as FictionWise, Project Gutenberg, etc..), from your own web server if you specify the link as stanza://path/to/ebook.epub, or you can enable the desktop Stanza -> Tools -> Enable Sharing, which will allow your iPhone/iPod Touch pull eBooks current displayed on the Stanza desktop into your the iPhone/iPod Touch Stanza app.
However, I will warn you that the PDF to ePub conversion leaves a lot to be desired, as a lot of formatting information is lost, but it is readable and you can most definitly change the font size and other font attributes.

  • Music is greyed out on iPod touch, it reads as empty, but files are still there?

    Hi all,
I have a 32g iPod Touch that has never had a problem thus far.
Yesterday, I connected it as usual and went to play a song from the iPod via iTunes. The song played perfectly fine. I had the iPod on shuffle, and after that song was over, it went through every song and "greyed them out" with the symbol. I then unconnected it and reconnected it. On the iPod itself, it states that I have "no content." Yet all of the music files are *still there* when I reconnect the iPod, but they're greyed out.
I have reconnected/unconnected it numerous times (all safely) to try and figure this out. Sometimes, when I connect the iPod, the bar on the bottom of the information page shows that I have 24-ish gigs of music--which is correct. But out of nowhere, the bar will go back to saying that I only have apps and photos, no audio. I've restarted iTunes, restarted my computer, restarted the actual iPod--nothing helps.
I can't sync the entire library back to iTunes because I manually manage my songs and most of the music is on an external hard drive. I'm aware that this means that the songs are greyed out in iTunes because the actual file isn't there. However, this has never been a problem on the actual iPod before.
I updated my iPod to 5.1 earlier this week with no problems. I haven't added any new music to the iPod itself. I literally did nothing different from usual. I do have songs from other sources than iTunes, which could mean a corrupt file, but I didn't add anything new in the past week.
I'm aware that a restore would fix this, and I'm okay with doing that...however, I'm more concerned as to WHY this happened in the first place. The loss of files came out of nowhere, with no improper syncs or improper disconnects, no new music, no new updates and nothing new being done. I just don't want to put all of the songs back on the iPod and have this happen again.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. :]

  • IPod Touch not reading TV Show correctly

I have the first 4 seasons of The Office and the first 6 of Family Guy, but i did not purchase them off of iTunes. I got them in fiine, but when put on my iPod Touch 2G 8GB, it does not tell me the season when i hit video. It says the show name, and then in parentheses the amount of episodes. I was wondering if there's a way to make it shpw up to say which season it is b/c when i open it up, underneath the episode name, it then says season _, episode_.

What is shown depends on what values are put in the Show, *Season Number* and *Episode Number* boxes in the "Get Info" dialog's Video tab. *Episode ID* may(?) affect sorting and is usually on the lines of "s01e02" to indicate Series 1, Episode 2. When you purchase a file some of these fields may not be filled in. Giving different seasons of a show different Show field entries would let iTunes treat the seasons as separate shows if that was what you actually wanted.

  • A few IMPORTANT observations about the iPod Touch (MUST READ)

While doing research on iPod Touch (to purchase for myself), I discovered the following review http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/apple-ipod-touch-8gb-16gb/P0
It is by far a VERY detailed review of the iPod Touch.
One thing that i had noticed before was that on the comparison page of the iPod's the 8GB iPod touch states it can hold up to 1750 songs, while the iPod Nano 8GB can hold 2000 songs. Which lead me to ask why.
    In the review, it says:
iPod nano 8GB = 7.41GB available free space
    iPhone 8GB = 7.24GB available free space
iPod Touch = 7.08GB available free space
Now i understand that the iPod Touch and iPhone use OSX and that uses a large chunk of space, but why is there 160mb missing? You'd think that the iPod Touch would have MORE available space than the iPhone, since a LOT of the applications are missing, as well as there is less hardware installed = less drivers.
Now I kind of agree with the reviewer when he says that the iPod Touch is a downgrade from the iPhone. Technically speaking the iPod touch is the most expensive and top of the line in the iPod family, yet it suffers a huge loss when compared to the iPhone.
The following things are missing from the iPod touch (at the cost of $100 less): Dock, charger, camera, external speaker, microphone, battery life, screen quality, resilient back casing, Bluetooth, and several applications!
Now someone might ask, Saeid just get an iPhone then. But the problem is that the iPhone is NOT available in Canada (officially) and IF one day it does become available, chances are it would be with a contract on Rogers (i'm on Fido).
I look forward to your views on the matter. Perhaps i AM over looking a few things. I am a HUGE fan of Apple, i ask because i usually look at EVERY single aspect of something before i make a purchase.
    Saeid.
P.s. Forgot to mention that in the review, it also states that the Sync (upload) time is much slower on the iPod Touch than the iPhone. The battery life one might argue is due to the fact that the Touch is smaller in size, but how would you explain the rest of the issues?

I am probably one of the few people on the planet who seldom uses a mobile phone. I have only a bare-bones phone plan. When I use a camera, I want one that takes high quality photos. At this point, I don't care that much about Bluetooth or a microphone.
I bought my Touch for the expanded music & video storage. I prefer flash memory to a hard drive so I didn't choose the iPod Classic. The Wi-fi is a bonus that works well for me. It would be nice if I had access to the Web all the time, but I don't want the ongoing monthly costs for an iPhone.
I've had my Touch for almost two months. It was an excellent choice for me. Chris Breen of Playlist revisits the Touch in his blog. Take a look at it for some good points: http://playlistmag.com/weblogs/ipodblog/index.php#61228

  • Why doesn't my iPod Touch 5G read my fingers?

I started my iPod for taking a picture, but found that the device is unable to read my fingers side-to-side. This means it can do it upside down but it does not respond at the sides. The central and bigger part of the iPod is unable to obey any order with the finger. What can I do? I can't unlock it or turn it off. The battery will be empty after some hours but... What can I do for the iPod to work appropriately?

  • TS2634 What if your iPod touch is reading that the date is in the 1800s and will no longer update the web and music that is "recent"?

My iTouch is reading that the date is in the 1800s and will no longer update my "recently purchased" songs or update websites.

Go to Settings>General>Date & Time and correct the times/date. Also, in Settings>General>International make sure the Calendar is set to Gregorian.

My iPod Touch was reading Wi-Fi just fine and then nothing. I powered down the modem already and I have all solid green lights and my husband is playing game MW3 online just fine. This never happened before. And I cant seem to get my iPod Touch to read the Wi-Fi network. Help!

  • Are QR Code Reader Apps compatible with 3rd Generation IPod Touch?, Are QR Code Reader Apps compatible with 3rd Generation IPod Touch?

Looking to use in my classroom purely for QR Code Readers. Hoping 3rd Generation are compatible for expense reasons, thank you!

Thank you. I am looking at the apps I want to use... some say only gen 4 and 5, some just say IPod Touch with no generation listed. A better question might be, is there a QR Code Reader app available that is compatible with 3rd Gen. IPod Touch?

  • IPod touch no longer recognized by my PC/laptop

My iPod touch is not showing up in my computer, or in itunes. Apple store says the connector port on the bottom is fried and won't ever connect to a computer via USB cable again. It still charges thru the wall charger, tho, and works fine otherwise.
How can I get music onto my iPod touch via either wifi, or perhaps 3rd party apps like Dropbox?
I know I can buy music thru itunes and do the automatic download onto the itunes on my iPod touch...but I have alot of music in mp3 format already on my laptop that I converted from old CDs and want to know how to get those albums/songs onto my iPod touch and my iPod's itunes.
Please let me know if there are any other options to get that music onto there.
    Thx!

That's what i was afraid of...but that's extra work and doesn't allow you to jump to a certain track.
Thanks for the response- sounds like I either have to settle for keeping the iPod i've got and never putting new music onto it...or break down and spend the money on a new one. This one is barely past its warranty, tho, so it's tough to spend that kind of $ yet again for another iPod that won't last very long.
Does anyone know of any 3rd party repair people who can fix iPod touch?

If the memory is low, double click the home button to bring up the multitask bar, tap on one of the apps shown until they start to shake, then hit the little red minus to close them. After all apps are closed that way, press the home button again and see if it works now.
Maybe you'll reset the device as well by pressing the home and sleep button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing this, but it can clear some glitches as well.
