Is Developer 6.0 stable and useful enough to upgrade?

with Developer2.0, one would have saved a lot of heartache by
delaying the upgrade till 2.1
Do people have similar experiences with Dev 6.0?
How can one justify migrating from dev2.x to dev6.x? (any must
have features, major performance improvements, major bug
fixes???????????)
Does anybody have experience with performance of dev6.0 web
forms server? Is it better than 2.x?
If anybody wants to share a migration experience from dev2.x to
dev 6.x, that will be great.
Finally, is there such a thing as Designer 6.0 that is
compatible with Dev 6.0? when is it available?

We just upgraded from Forms 5.0 to Forms 6.0 and noticed that
our forms with Date Display Items that had Initial Values of
$$DATE$$, $$DATETIME$$, $$DBDATE$$ or $$DBDATETIME$$ lose their
Initial Value properties during the upgrade. If there is a
corresponding mandatory database column associated with the item
we get notified at runtime with the ORA-01400 message. However,
if the database column is optional, WE DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT THE
VALUE IS MISSING.
Oracle Support is aware of the issue but there is no fix
scheduled. I suggested that they provide their customers with a
utility that would scan a directory and use the Forms API to
present me with a list of the forms, blocks, and items that may
lose their Initial Values. I can turn loose some developers to
make the changes manually in 6.0. Oracle Support said they
coudn't provide such a utility "because if it didn't work
correctly then we would be responsible." They just suggested
that I hold off on the upgrade until they could provide a patch,
but they have no idea when that would be available.

Is it possible to download iOS8 only once and use it to upgrade all iPads in the same LAN?
I tried the following methods and they are just not working:
1. Connect an iPads Mini with Retina Display to the iTunes on Mac. I chose Download Only. Once downloaded the iPad Software Upgrade, I upgraded the connected iPad to iOS8. Then I connect another iPad (used to be on another Mac) to the same iTunes. I had to download iOS 8 again. It's not using the same downloaded iOS 8 file.
2. I turned on the Caching Service (not Software Upgrade Service, i.e. for Mac Software) on the Mac Mini Server from the Server app. I then repeat step 1 above and got the same result. It seems that the Caching Service does not cache the iOS 8 Software Upgrade like what it does for other apps. (I think I may need to use some Apple Scripts but I have no such experience.)

I agree with Csound on that, a family, even with a lot of devices will have to individually update. There are enough nuances in the iOS for different devices that you need to download for each. If you had 200 iPad 2's then there might be an enterprise way...but not a family with a mix of devices.

Hi. Can anyone comment on their experience using RH Server on Windows 7 and using SQL Server Express? That is, is it stable and fast enough for delivering Web Help Pro documentation to support occasional viewer browses. (We would have approx 250 customers who would occasionally access the HTML docs that support our software.)
Our company is not keen on spending $s on Windows Server and an MS or Oracle database.

SQL Developer 3.0.04 and 10g

Downloaded SQL Developer 3.0.04 to interface to a 10g server. I encountered the now infamous no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path problem which is described in other forum posts. Upon reading, my understanding is that more recent versions of Developer require an 11 client. Workarounds include 1) backing up to previous versions of Developer or 2) downloading and using instantclient. I chose the 2 ^nd^ option.
Instantclient got rid of the ocijdbc11 error, but now I'm seeing Internal Error: Fetch error message failed!
There doesn't seem to be much help available on the Oracle site or forums, and I'm hoping that someone else has seen and solved this problem.
Any guidance for this Oracle newbi is appreciated. Thanks!

There is another workaround - set the Use OCI/Thick drive option off.
Tools|Preferences|Database|Advanced.
This won't work if you need OCI for specific functions not supported by the thin driver.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account. Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices. You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

Problem with a example of "Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins"

Hi, I've tried the example "Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins", but when I run the sample.jspx page and choose the skin "MyCompany" in the select skin I obtain the next message:

I had the same issue last friday.
It's probably because you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 instead of 10.1.3.0 or 10.1.3.1 for which the example is made.
I haven't been able to fix this yet, other then by commenting out the this part of the css.

QuickBooks for Mac has been available again since at least 2004 (Intuit before that had done nothing with it for years). The current version is QB for Mac 2014. It's pretty much the same price no matter where you look.
The Mac version data is not directly compatible with the Windows version. Sending your data out to your business tax accountant and getting it back in is not at all easy. It's such a pain, our accountant comes here to finalize the books at year end.
There is still also a lot of Windows features for QB Pro which have never been added to the Mac version. They're all on the higher end side that larger businesses would need. I've never run into anything with the Mac version I couldn't do.
If your accountant wants ease of data transfer, then you'd be better off purchasing Snow Leopard Server and run that in Parallels. Then run the Windows version of QB in that.

Problem in Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins sample

sample.jspx dose not have “Select Skin” box as the document shown.
I am trying the sample project downloaded from sample WAR file - adffaces_skin.war in article “Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins”.
In paragraph “Changing the Color Schema of a Skin”
sample.jspx has a “Select Skin” box to allow user to select “Simple” or “MyCompany”. (in JSP Visual Editor)
However, it does not show on the project built from downloaded from sample WAR file (adffaces_skin.war).

After reading the whole document, I realize it is my mistake.
The box will be created after all user skins setting.
The sample works.
Only thing need to remind is for later version Jdeveloper, Application Worksapce in only for early version Jdeveloper. All the version after 10g 1.3 EA1, Only have Application.

Declare, Set, and Use a variable in a SQL Developer Query

I come from the SQL Server world and am trying to do something very simple: Declare, set, and use a variable in a query. For example:
Declare @lastPeriod date;
Set @lastPeriod = (select max(payperiod) from table 1 where payperiod < current_date);
Select field 1,
Field2
From table2
Where payperiod = @lastPeriod
The variable is going to be used in more areas in the query which is why I am simply not using a Sub-query in the where clause. I appreciate any assistance.

That said, read up on bind variables and substitution variables.
Whenever you can you should use Bind variables (e.g. *:lastPeriod* ), as they increase performance. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (F9), but you do if you execute as script (F5) (e.g. VARIABLE lastPeriod VARCHAR2(30);).
Alternatively, Substitution variables (e.g. *&lastPeriod* ) will literally be substituted in your statement before the database parses it. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (either F9 or F5), but you can (DEF lastPeriod='TEST'; ).

iCloud storage is for backups. It is not associated with space on your phone. You cannot buy more space for your phone. Check what you have on your phone and delete what you don't use or seldom use to get more space on your phone.

Now the critical issue here is that I get the computer up to speed enough to be compatible with a modern photo printer - which I think needs to be 10.4.11 or even 10.5
