Is it normal? Some strange Samsung RAM in my new MacBook....

I have just purchased a new MacBook. I wanted change RAM. I saw some strange powder on the contacts. And the mark of RAMs was SAMSUNG, not Kingston. Is it normal? And the powder, what is it?
The photos of RAMs:

Thanks.

Also the white stuff is perfectly normal. It is a grease that is used when the ram in originally installed, and dries just as you have described.

    Hi Auracles1,
Here's a pretty discussion regarding wireless printing with this device and a Mac.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-networking-and-wireless/HP-Officejet-6500-E 709n-wireless-issue/m-p/258853
I have a similar OfficeJet and it was a multi-step process. (1) Install printer drivers on the machine, (2) Add the printer queue in print & fax, (3) Run the "setup wizard" from the disc for wireless printing.

  • Anyone install additional RAM into your new MacBook?

I slapped a new 1 gig stick into my MacBook and noticed that after removing the bracket in front of the ram slots, adding new ram and putting it back that the bracket wasn't quite flush due to the pads that cover the ram slots, even after screwing the bracket back in. Anyone else experience this? I am just curious as to whether or not it is normal. When I removed the bracket initially to get at the RAM, I don't recall if the bracket was dead flat against the slots.

oh no, the RAM installed just fine. I am speaking to the metal bracket that covers the RAM slots and needs to be removed before installing ram. This bracket has cushions that cover the slots. When I put the bracket back on after installing the RAM, I was unsure whether or not these cushions should fit under the top of the RAM slots so that the bracket is flat after being screwed back in?
If you remove the battery and look at the RAM slots, is the bracket after RAM installation completely flat?

  • Can I use my old Macbook Pro Ram in the New Macbook Pro (late 2008)

I have 2, 2 gig DDR2 sticks of ram in my macbook pro. I wanted to know if they would work in the new macbook pro (late 2008)? I know the new one uses DDR3 - What would be the downside of using DDR2 in a DDR3 macbook? Would the graphics cards work to their potential? Thanks!

No. The DDR2 RAM in your older computer is not the same as the DDR3 RAM used in the new ones. There are significant differences between them not the least of which is pin count.

  • Supported RAM in the new MacBook Pro

On Black Friday last year I purchased 8gb of RAM for the current MacBook Pro. Will this RAM be supported in my new MacBook Pro that I ordered right after the refresh Thursday?

You are best off to buy the specified new Ram modules 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
Mac is finicky about RAM. Yes you could install your old RAM but I suspect out of nowhere in a week you will be wondering why all of a sudden you have a Kernel Panic. Just buy the correct RAM.
Send along the old RAM (1067 MHz DDR3) with your old MBP when you sell it.

  • Very strange desktop behavior on brand new macbook pro

    Macbook Pro
    2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB ram
    Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 128MB
    OSX 10.4.10
w/ all the latest apple updates.
i just received this laptop in the mail, and as i was adding come 'essential' programs, i started to notice an odd behavior:
using safari, i was downloading applications from version tracker. for instance, Textwranger.
for some reason, after the file downloads and unpacks, the temporary download file xxxx.dmg.download doesn't disappear until i place my mouse over it.
then, the file that is unpacked does not show up on my desktop unless i specifically search for it using spotlight.
i also have a file in the trash that wont delete when i empty it : UnRarX
i literally have only been using this computer for an hour or so.

Yes, the finder prefs do have that option. While you are in Finder app, right under "Finder" in the menubar, go to Preferences (command comma) and under the General tab, check Hard disk "show these items on the Desktop".. and under the Sidebar tab, check hard disk in "show these items in the Sidebar".
If you are lacking normally displayed items or having problems with settings or system differences, do the "Reset PRAM" by restarting and holding the command, option, p and r keys until you hear the third chime. Do not release those keys until you have heard the THIRD chime ... it is important.

  • Can i use older ram on a newer macbook pro

    I have a MACBOOK PRO 15' LATE 2011 2.2 GHz intel core i7 4gb 1333 MHz DDR3 can I use an 8gb 1066 MHz DDR3 on it???
    please need help??
    Thank you

It may work, but the performance won't be the same and it's risky. If you have checked that everything except the RAM speed meets the requirements of your Mac, that memory should work, but your Mac will use 1066 MHz instead of 1333 MHz.
I recommend you to buy new 1333 MHz memory to guarantee the compatibility and save headaches in the future if the 1066 MHz memory doesn't work

  • New RAM in my new MacBook

    Hi All,
Just got my first Mac EVER last Friday. Last night I swapped the RAM over from my old Dell laptop to the MacBook.
MacBook recognized the new RAM fine, however when I click the 'about this mac' link under the Apple icon, it says the RAM is 533 Mhz. I forgot to check before I pulled the old RAM, is the stock RAM 667 Mhz? (I pulled the stock 512 stick and put in two 1 gig stick...2 gigs total now)
Should I upgrade my 2 gigs to 667 Mhz, would I notice a difference?
Am I even correct in "thinking" that there is 667 Mhz RAM?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

This is the RAM you need.
    PC2-5300 667MHz SODIMM

  • My Preview is open all my pics at time instead of open one by one. It occurs when I try to open any type of JPEG file. That's strange and I'm a new macbook user. I hope somebody can help me out. Thanks

My Preview opens all my pics at time instead of open one by one. It occurs when I open any JPG FILE. What should I do to fix it? Thanks

    First use JPanel not Panel.
    Panel panels[]=new Panel[4];becomes
JPanel panels[]=new JPanel[4];Then refactor your code so that you use arrays correctly:
    panels=new Panel();
    panels.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));becomes
    panels=new JPanel();
    panels[i].setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
I did the above changes to your code and it worked fine.

  • Does Adding Ram To A New MacBook Pro Void The Warranty?

I am considering getting one at the end of the month and this answer will probably help me decide whether to get the 2 gig or 4 gig model.

Not an issue at all. I have upgraded all of my systems, and never have I had an issue with Apple support.

  • Samsung ram not recognised?

I have the later revision of the G4 aluminium with 1400x960 screen. Currently it has two 512 MB Samsung DDR2 sodimm modules in it. I replaced these with identical but larger modules (two 1GB Samsumg modules). I get either one or three beeps (no ram/not recognised) depending on the configurations I try. The new ram specs are:
    Samsung 1GB PC5300 SO-DIMM Notebook Memory
    M470T2864EH3-CE6 0839
    Brand: Samsung
    Memory Size: 1024MB DDR2
    Memory Speed: 667MHz PC5300 200 pin
    ECC-register: No
    Memory Type: DDR2
    CONDITION: Brand New
    Any ideas? Thanks.

First off, I will say good choice on the Samsung, since they are OEM suppliers for Apple, and I only use their RAM in my machines. I find them completely compatible and never had problems. Now, as to why you are having a problem, that is odd. I do know that not all Samsung modules may be compatible... it has to do with the model number / part no.
The other reason you may have could be the lower RAM slot problem? Just a thought.
Second, people will tell you that you are using the wrong RAM and that it should be PC4200, but the PC5300 is known to work as well and is fully compatible so that is not the reason for the incompatibility. Crucial lists it on their website as compatible, and at one point, Apple had that part available as an upgrade option on their website (online store) for people who wanted to upgrade the RAM in their DLSD PowerBooks. I also confirmed this when I bought two sticks of PC5300 Samsung RAM pulled from a MacBook and sold by Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) in their clearance section and it worked like a charm in my PowerBook.
If I had the RAM on hand, I'd give you the exact part no., but I've since parted with my trusty 15-incher and upgraded to a unibody MacBook Pro. But me having a photographic memory of sorts (hey there's a pun there!), the part no. you have listed doesn't look familiar to me. Where did you get your RAM?

  • Is my new macbook normal???

    Hi all,
Just been reading posts on this and wondering if my new macbook is normal. So I've had my new macbook since 29 Oct this year, its the new model the 2.0 GHz one, so one month. Not really a computer person but taking more interest now since I have my own laptop. So I have a few question hoping some of you may be able to answer.
So reading about battery and stuff. My battery apparently has done 22 cycles??? Is this normal, I've only ever let the battery decharge to 15% once, rest of the time I only let it decharge like to 60% or 50 % and I work mostly with it plugged in. I've never calibrate it, I've just read about that so will do that sometime. Also when I look at my batteries full charge capacity it says 4180, its between 4150 and 4180, it changes, is this normal for a new macbook one month old? And condition : good???
Also have noticed another thing with my macbook that I'm not sure is normal. A lot of the time I put it to sleep when I go to uni in the morning so I can just start it up again quickly when I get there. But a few times now, when I have put it to sleep ( manually-pressing the sleep button) and then closing the lid, about 10 seconds after it makes the wake up noise, the DVD drive noise, then about a minute after ( if I don't do anything) it does it again. By this stage I get scared so I just opened the lid, its awake, if i put it to sleep again it does the same thing???? So then I just shut it off. IS this normal???? Probably not but can someone tell me why its happening and what I can do? It doesn't do it all the time when i put it to sleep just sometimes..??
Yep so these are my questions. If anyone knows if my macbook is normal or what is going on I wold really appreciate it. I love my new macbook so just want to learn more about it and just worried that this may not be right. Thanks in advance for replies.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The battery issue is normal. Every time you drain the battery to some extent then recharge, it reports that as a cycle. The battery capacity is supposed to change, so no problem there if it goes from 4180 to 4150.
As for your other concern, I've never had the problem so I couldn't tell you much. You may have to reset your SMC (System Management Controller) if it goes back to sleep after waking. Resetting your SMC will fix some power/sleep related issues.
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
    3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
    4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
    5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
See if that helps. Best of luck.

  • I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer was updated. Help pls

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.

You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.
    HELP PLEASE
    Very worried!!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
