Is it possible to access a html based web service from a pdf form?

I was wondering if it is possible to send a query from livecycle to web service and parse the return data.
An quick example of what I am thinking is querying a database like wolfram alpha using their html query.
It is in the format http://api.wolframalpha.com/v2/query?input=pi&appid=XXXX. where "pi" is the query and XXXX is the specific user id
The website then returns a xml file.
Is there anyway to send out that html with any query from a text field and process the response?
Thanks!

Hi,
Naseko is right in using the formcalc get function, and I use this for accessing information from google calendar, you can also call the formcalc get function from JavaScript as described here http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2009/02/calling_formcalc_functions_fro.html.
The main problem I have is with the yellow message bar message and popup saying do you want to allow access to api.wolframalpha.com (or whatever).  I think you can get around this by certifing the form, but I don't have access to the servre products to do that.
Anyway, if it helps have a look at https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=vFcW-9OVSm*BdV6GyFfUIg you will need to modify the button click code to specify your own appid but the code is simple enough;
var response = FormCalc.Function.Get("http://api.wolframalpha.com/v2/query?appid=<<appid>>&input=capital%20of%20australia");
response = response.replace(/^<\?xml\s+version\s*=\s*(["'])[^\1]+\1[^?]*\?>/, "");
var responseNode = xfa.datasets.createNode("dataGroup", "response");
responseNode.loadXML(response, false, false);
var answer = responseNode.resolveNode("queryresult.pod.(title.value=='Result')").subpod.plaintext.value;
console.println(answer);
So this code sends a query "capital of australia" and gets a response "Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia"
Replace <<appid>> with your appid and look at the linked sample to see how FormCalc.Function.Get works.
Also, expect Designer to crash a few times while getting it to work.
Hope this helps,
Bruce

  • How to call an ABAP based web service from a web page (form)

    Hi,
    I am trying to figure out how I can call my own developed ABAP based web service. I was able to successfully test it in the WS navigator and am now wondering what I need to do to embed the service call in a plain simply web page (form). Basically I'd like to create a web form allowing to specify the parameters and with a 'Submit' button pass the parameters to the web service and launch it.
    Is this possible or do I need some kind of SDK to accomplish this?
    Thanks for any hints and tips.

    In the 6.1 client, I've established a WebServiceProxy and set the userName and password to the proper values, but I can't seem to get past the security.
    If there something special I need to do on either the 8.1 securing side or on the 6.1 accessing side to make this work?

  • URGENT: Error while invoking soap-based web service from BPEL process

    I am trying to invoke a soap-based web service deployed in a different OC4J container but on the same iAS middle tier install as the BPEL server. The deployment is successful. I am running 10.1.2 BPEL server.

    Any ideas on what the problem might be ?

    Sandor,
    Thanks. Your suggestion of turning off optSoapShortcut worked. So does that mean that by default remote web services cannot be invoked from BPEL process by SOAP - unless this configuration change is done ?

  • How to access (any) soap / rest web services from widget

    Hi all,
    Is there an API, javascript library etc, which allows accessing (any) soap / rest webservices from widgets?
    I know I can access web services from sap j2ee with widget foundation, but I'm still not sure how to access "outside"
    web services.
    A blog entry about this topic would be greatly appreciated I think, not only by me.
    Regards,
    Ladislav

    As promised, below is the js lib source code. I did not see the attachement option, so you can just create a text file and save it with .js extension.
              function getHdrData( FuncName ) {
                return '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>' +
                          '<SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" ' +
                                             'xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" ' +
                                             'xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">' +
                          '<SOAP-ENV:Header><sapsess:Session ' +
                                    'xmlns:sapsess="http://www.sap.com/webas/630/soap/features/session/">' +
                                    '<enableSession>true</enableSession></sapsess:Session>'+
                          '</SOAP-ENV:Header><SOAP-ENV:Body><ns1:' +
                          FuncName +
                          ' xmlns:ns1=\'urn:sap-com:document:sap:soap:functions:mc-style\'>';
              function addVar ( VarName, VarValue ) {
                return '<' + VarName + '>' + VarValue  + '</' + VarName + '>';
              function getFtrData( FuncName ) {
              return '</ns1:' + FuncName + '></SOAP-ENV:Body></SOAP-ENV:Envelope>';
              function setTable ( TblName, TblType) {
                   return '<' + TblName + ' xsi:type=\'ns1:' + TblType + '\'>';
              function closeTable ( TblName) {
                   return '</' + TblName + '>';
              function startEntry( ) {
                   return '<item>';
              function endEntry( ) {
                   return '</item>';
    So the following is the basic on how to use this library:
    * Set up SOAP envelope
    * Get the header data
    getHdrData( SOAP operation name )
    * If the web service set up the table and record start tags
    setTable( variable name, table type ) - Optional
    Set new record tag: startEntry() ? Optional
    * Set up the fieldname or variable name
    addVar( variable name, variable value )
    * Set up the table and record end tags
    endEntry() ? Optional
    closeTable( variable name ) ? Optional
    * Set up the footer SOAP envelope
    Set footer data: getFtrData(SOAP operation name )
    So hopefully that will help you consume SAP Published web services.

  • ERROR OWS-04045 during accessing multiple ports based web service

    I use WSA to publish a web service which have multiple ports.
    The ant build script :
    <oracle:assemble appName="${app.name}" ear="${app.name}.ear"
    targetNamespace="http://www.xxx.com" classpath="${domestic.class.path}"
    input="${web.home.path}/WEB-INF/classes" output="${archive.output.path}"
    style="rpc" mappingFileName="type-mapping.xml" appendToExistingDDs="true"
    serviceName="${app.name}">
    <oracle:porttype interfaceName="com.xxx.service.ICompanyDefinerWebService"

    <oracle:port name="company" uri="company" />

    <oracle:porttype interfaceName="com.xxx.IUserDefinerWebService"
    className="com.xxx.UserProfileWebServiceImpl">
    <oracle:port name="userprofile" uri="userprofile" />
    </oracle:porttype>
    </oracle:assemble>
    There is a class name UserDTO which extends another class AbstractDTO, which locates in another package. I used a type-mapping file for giving them different namespaces.
    After deployment, I can use the url http://localhost:8888/xxx/userprofile to access the web service. OC4J provided a javascript based stub for testing.
    But I met some problems. When I use the web stub to access it , error occurs.
    ERROR OWS-04045 Malformed Request Message:Caught exception while handling request: unexpected element name: expected={http://www.xxx.com/framework/bean}operationRecord, actual={http://www.xxx.com/user/dto}operationRecord
    I switched the form to display in xml before invoke, I found there are different and correct namespaces on these 2 elements (UserDTO and OperationLog) .So, I'm very strange why the server will response such a fault information.
    In addition, if I use default style (just document-wrapped) to publish web service, almost all methods can not be accessed on web stub which is provided by oracle.
    Surely, the problem is caused by multiple port. The soap specification is 1.2 and JDK is SUN 1.5.0-b6, OC4J is 10.1.3.3
    I just want to konw whether oracle have some better practices or suggestion for publishing a web service which will have multiple ports.
    The other problem is we can not use abstract class(only support interface) when we want to use WSA to assemble a web service based EAR.

  • Access Java SOAP based web service using WS Security

    Hi,
    I need to call a Java based SOAP webservice which has message level security enabled with Binary Token.
    I have connected to the service using SOAPUI and below is the sample header for the same. I need to achieve the same in my Windows form application from where I am calling the SOAP service over https.
    I am not an expert in WS Security. Need some tips or sample code to achieve this.

  • How to access and display a Web Service from a WSDL in JSP or JSTL ?

    Dear All,
    We need to access a Web Service which is hosted as WSDL How to access a WSDL file from JSP or JSTL, parse and display the SOAP response in JSP page.
    Any simple example or URL as reference to an example will be useful for me.
    It seems io tags of jakarta is able to send soap message, but how to display it in JSP.
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

    Dear Sir,
    Yes. I would like to know more about the Forte and how to consume WSDL file from JSTL. The following are my querirs.
    1. How to connect the declared JNDI from a JSP page. i.e: the Datasource - ex: booksDS
    2. We connect the Tomcat server using JNDI as jdbc/scott. But, if I give jdbc/scott in JSTL as datasource={jdbc/scott}, we could not able to connect. We use the following code in a JSP page to connect the DB from a JSP page. (Its quite easy to modify, so we use the connection in a JSP page.)
    3. How to Consume a WSDL url from JSTL. Ex: If there is a URL : http://localhost/ws/MathService.asmx?wsdl OR http://www.xmethods.com/test/BabelFish
    4. How to display the result. We tried via SOAP from io taglib of Jakarta, but gives us an SOAP (it also looks like xml) response. But, how to use the value from that soap response in IE client thru JSTL/JSP.
    5. Whether this JSTL tool will be available with Forte Enterprise/Community Edition. If so EE, whats the price.
    Please Reply Immediatly. We tried, trying, going to try to display a wsdl response, but not able to display in IE thru JSP/JSTL. But, weve tested the www.gotdotnet.com examples of asp.net web services, we are thru. Its quite easy it seems in .NET. But, we feel whether even there is not even one example in JSTL/ Java Web Services Dev. Pack to utilise a web service in full cycle. The example which uve given is thru servlets. We dont use servlets. Cos, its very easy to edit JSP pages, instead of compiling the serv. and using it.
    I hope ull reply for all the above queries, since ur from SUN.
    Expecting your fav. reply.
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

  • Error in PeopleTools 8.48 while calling CI based Web Services from BPEL

    Hi All,
    I am working with a CI based web serives and using the PeopleSoft generated wsdl file while calling from a BPEL process. When I am using the same component in PeopleTools 8.47, it's working fine. But the same is NOT working when I'm using PeopleTools 8.48 using the same BPEL server and program.
    Here is the error message :-
    exception on JaxRpc invoke: HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: oracle_endpoint: oracle_endpoint.
    Please help if you know the answer.

    Hi,
    You need to download all the associated xml schemas from PeopleSoft portal and store them in the path where you are creating BPEL process, it's different from what we used to do in PeopleTools 8.47 ( there was only one wsdl file), whereas in PeopleTools 8.48 you need to copy all associated xml schemas.
    But I m not able to find out why the native JAVA error is thrown, do I need to provide some patches?

    The system works fine when I use a http endpoint.

    Hi,
    By default, your application tries to connect to the Net directly : if you have to specify a proxy, use either these lines in your code :
    System.setProperty("http.proxySet", "true");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyHost", "proxy");
    System.setProperty("http.proxyPort", "8080");
    Or specify them in the command line with the "-D"option.
    Ex : java .... -Dhttp.proxySet=true .... MyApp
    Hope it helps.
    See ya

  • Access a web service from pl/sql

    I am trying to access a web service from pl/sql. I have downloaded the code from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/webservices/htdocs/samples/dbwebservice/DBWebServices_PLSQL.html
    But when I try to execute the sql, I am getting the following error:

  • Building a JSP-based Web Report with a Parameter Form

    Hi,
    I tried in building a report as shown in the example in OTN under reports in the url
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/examples/ParameterFormJSP/index.html
    i.e for Building a JSP-based Web Report with a Parameter Form. The directions in this document were not clear and if any one document which is clear with instruction will be useful to me. In this example it is shown with search criteria with sigle text box and if any one had idea & code to place an combo box and population of the record group in the combo box.
    Thank you in advance.

    hi,
    we will be releasing a new example w.r.t creating a parameter form using the reports JSP within the next month.
    as for your request for a combo box. this widget is not available via regular HTML form elements. you can either have a select list or dropdown list.
    for a regular select list you would use the following (only pseudo-code)
    <select ...>
    <rw:foreach>
    <option value="<rw:field .../>">
    </rw:foreach>
    </select>
    to populate a select list.

  • Unable to access calendar, because the web service is configured incorrectly

    When attempting to access my web based calender I recieve the following error, "Unable to access calendar, because the web service is configured incorrectly." I have both the web service and iCal server configured to use SSL.
    Thanks for any help

    I have the same problem, with a temporary solution :
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=111059
    In the Server Admin - iCal Server Settings page there's a place where you specify the ports to be used, 8008 without SSL and 8443 (? out of my memory, not sure) for SSL.
    The issue was caused because left of the SSL port I selected "redirect" instead of "use".
    After I changed that it worked right away.

  • Message-based web service

    We are using CF 7.01 and have been successful in consuming
    web services in the past. We are unsuccessful however in consuming
    a web service where the client says is using a message-based (aka
    document style) web service. We are entering thier system but we
    error out in our attempt to access thier web service.
    In the cfcomponent I have even tried using style="document"
    but we are still erroring out. The nature of the error message at
    our end shows:
    -- start of error message...
    Message: Could not generate stub objects for web service
    invocation.
    Detail: Name:
    https://integrationdev.peopleclick.com/soap/echo. WSDL:
    https://integrationdev.peopleclick.com/soap/echo. WSDLException (at
    /SOAP-ENV:Envelope): faultCode=INVALID_WSDL: Expected element '{
    http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/}definitions'.:
    It is recommended that you use a web browser to retrieve and
    examine the requested WSDL document for correctness. If the
    requested WSDL document can't be retrieved or it is dynamically
    generated, it is likely that the target web service has programming
    errors.
    -- ...end of error message.
    The message insinuates a WSDL problem. I understand
    message-based web services don't use a WSDL. Must I remove
    something from our standard RPC-based web service configuration?
    Thanks in advance.
