Is it possible to calling another stored procedure in another database?

Hello all, I hope you can help me out.
I need to call another stored procedure in another database? Is it possible?
I know you can call another stored procedure in the same package:
Var_SQL :='call SP_Tes (''' || Var_1 || ''',''' || Var_2 ||''')' ;
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE Var_SQL;
But how do call it if its in another database? I assume, I'd have to open a new connection to it, then call it...
Please help me. thanks

I managed to find my synonym;
select synonym_name, table_owner, table_name from all_synonyms where synonym_name = 'PKG_EDONWEB70'
(BTW, its upper case sensitive, I eventually found out)
But as you said; "anyway, what..."
1)Crete synonym with the dblink, which is the same DB as the one I'm using:chec
create public synonym pkg_edonweb70test2 for [email protected]
Result: ok2)check it exists:
select synonym_name, table_owner, table_name from all_synonyms where synonym_name = 'PKG_EDONWEB70TEST2'
Result: ok3)check it runs in sql:
DECLARE
    P_RETURNVALUE1 number;
BEGIN
    PKG_EDONWEB70TEST2.SP_TESTSMB_DESTINATION ( P_RETURNVALUE1 );
    COMMIT;
END;
Result: ok4)Add it to the strored procedure that is going to call it
PROCEDURE sp_testSMB_origin(P_RETURNVALUE1 OUT number) IS
        thissql varchar(1000);
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
        PKG_EDONWEB70TEST2.SP_TESTSMB_DESTINATION ( P_RETURNVALUE1 );
        COMMIT;
    END;
    end sp_testSMB_origin;
Result: FAIL; pls-00201: identifier 'PKG_EDONWEB70TEST2' must be declared

  • Calling a stored procedure from within a ViewObject

    Is it possible to make stored procedure call from within a BC4J ViewObject? Basically something like this:
    select * from table(f1(3)); where f1 is a table function. Using Oracle's pipelined table functions?
    If not, is it possible to call a stored procedure from Java and have the returned results be put back into a BC4J RowSet.
    In addition, is there a way to create a JDBC Resultset from a BC4J RowSet?
    We need to be able to dynamically create our SQL statements (the entire SQL, not just the where clause) but are required to have these sql statements generated/executed from within a pl/sql stored procedure in the database.

    Yes. Using our expert-mode query feature this is possible.
    is it possible to call a stored procedure from Java and have the returned results be put back into a BC4J RowSet.
    Yes. See this article about basing a view object on a REF CURSOR:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2003/03/03.html
    In addition, is there a way to create a JDBC Resultset from a BC4J RowSet?
    No. Not directly. What's the business requirement here so I can understand better?
    We need to be able to dynamically create our SQL statements (the entire SQL, not just the where clause) but are required to have these sql statements generated/executed from within a pl/sql stored procedure in the database.
    REF CURSOR would work fine, or if it's just the statement that needs to be generated dynamically, you could fetch the text of the SQL statement from the stored procedure, then use createViewObjectFromQueryStmt(). Although this has runtime overhead involved with describing the query.
    The REF CURSOR based approach is probably best for this.

  • Exec stored procedure from another stored procedure - not working

    Hey, we've got a bunch of .sql files that we run, and some of them are stored procedures. Our programs call the stored procedures from within the .sql files and that works, but we've tried calling a stored procedure from another stored procedure and it won't compile. The syntax looks the same, and we can run that second stored procedure from the SQL*Plus command prompt just fine, so we know it's in there. It doesn't matter whether we type exec or execute in the first stored procedure--it still gives us a compilation error. Here's the relevant bit of the code:
            delete CMHISTORYINDEX;
            commit;
            exec SP_DAILY_TOTAL;
    END SP_DAILY_CLOSING;
    /Here's where we go into SQL*Plus and try to compile it:
    Connected to:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning, Real Application Clusters, OLAP and Data Mining options
    SQL> @sp_daily_closing.sql

             one of the following:

             The symbol ":=" was substituted for "SP_DAILY_TOTAL" to continue.
    SQL>We've also tried changing SP_DAILY_CLOSING to lowercase, but it doesn't seem to help. As I mentioned before, we can type that same sort of thing in .sql files that are not stored procedures and the exec is compiled fine and runs correctly. What are we doing wrong?

    In the stored procedure remove "exec" :
            delete CMHISTORYINDEX;
            commit;
            SP_DAILY_TOTAL;
    END SP_DAILY_CLOSING;

    I'd suggest that you turn on xml validation on the bpel boundaries to make sure that the xml being passed to the adapter is valid. You do this by logging in to bpel console, go to Manage Domain, at the bottom of the Configuration tab, set validateXml to true.
    Then see if it is an xml validation issue - in which case you will have to fix your maps to make sure it is valid indeed.
    Assuming your XML is valid and you are still seeing this error, couple of follow up questions:
    - are you using synonyms ?
    -- note that synonyms are not supported completely by the adapter at this time.
    - could you spell out where your types/sp-pkg resides and what are you connecting as at runtime ?
    -- just to keep things simple enough to debug, i'd do everything as just one user and slowly go to a scheme that you desire.

  • SSRS dataset throws error when another stored procedure is called inside dataset stored procedure

    Hello;
    I am using Report Build 3.0, I have a simple report which gets data using dataset which is created from a Stored Procedure. I have another stored procedure which updates the data in the table which is used for the report. I want to get the live data on report everytime
    the report is run so that I call that stored procedure (sp_updatedata) inside my report dataset stored procedure and here where my report fails as it throws error while creating dataset.
    Here is sample:
    sp_updatedata (this only returns "Command(s) completed successfully"
    Create Proce sp_getReportData
    As
    Begin
    Exec sp_updatedata -- I call it to update the data before it displays on the report
    Select * from customers
    End
    If I remove this line it works.
    Exec sp_updatedata -- I call it to update the data before it displays on the report
    Thanks
    Essa Mughal

    Hi MESSA,
    According to your description, you create a dataset based on a stored procedure. In this procedure, it calls another procedure. Now it throws error when creating dataset. Right?
    In Reporting Services, when creating dataset, all the query or stored procedure will be executed in SSMS. So if the procedure can be executed in SSMS, it supposed to be working in SSRS. However, it has a limitation in SSRS. In a dataset, it can only return
    one result set.
    In this scenario, I don't think it's the issue of calling other procedure inside of procedure. Because we tested in our local environment, it works fine. I guess the sp_updatedata returns a result set, and the "select * from customers" returns
    another result set. This might be the reason cause the error.

    If you still have any question, please post the error message and the store procedure (sp_updatedata).

  • Response from one stored proc. to another stored procedure call in JDBC

    Hi,
    I have to call 2 stored procedures, where the response from first stored procedure ( an id) is mapped as a parameter to the second stored procedure call.
    My question is that can this be achieved without using BPM?
    Can we somehow map the response from the stored procedure 1 to stored procedure 2 parameter w/o using BPM?
    I have to insert multiple rows using the stored procedure.
    Should I use STATEMENT unbounded times ( which means stored procedure is called multiple times) or should I use the parameter as unbounded ( like an array, maybe define the parameter as an array in the stored procedure)?
    From the performance standpoint, which approach is better?
    Please suggest.

    Hi Ardent !
    I think you could use 2 mapping programs (message mapping objects) in your interface mapping. The first one, executes and returns the ID to a message type defined by you for internal use only between both stored procedure executions. The second ones uses that message type as source message and the XML required by the JDBC for the second stored procedure execution as target message type. This can be done without BPM.

    Matias.

  • Calling a stored procedure with a table of custom types as a out parameter

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use toplink 11.1.1.0.0 to call a stored procudure with 4 in paramrs and a single out parameter of type gsearch_type which is a userdefined type defined as below
    CREATE or replace TYPE search_object as object (mdlnumber varchar2(12), hit clob);
    create or replace type gsearch_type as table of search_object;
    Is it possible to get the return value from this stored procedure using toplink.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    - Sunil

    Currently TopLink can't directly handle that kind of output parameter.
    As a workaround you would need a wrapper for the stored procedure - it could be either another stored procedure or an anonymous block which would return the components of the complex parameter as several simple parameters.

    Thanks,

    I think I figured this out. I don't think the grant to ANONYMOUS is going to work with production XE and the online documentation is in need of an update. It appears that production XE has been locked down and you will need to specify the name of each stored procedure you wish to allow to be executed by adding it to the WWV_FLOW_EPG_INCLUDE_MOD_LOCAL function. This is spelled out in more technical detail here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25309/adm_wrkspc.htm#BEJCGJFJ
    Another alternative that would work involves creating a separate DAD. Using the DAD approach with my schema made all of my stored procedures callable from a web browser, so I rejected this approach. To make this usable (secure) I would have needed to create and maintain a separate database user for the DAD and then only granted it execute for the stored procedures I wanted to be callable from a URL.
    Finally I read about using an on-demand procedure and having it invoke the desired stored procedure. While I didn't try this out, it sounds like another good approach because it maintains session security. If it can be used to return an image I do not know.

  • Calling a stored procedure within a package

    We have a number of packages containing stored procedures. In an existing production application, we used embedded SQL in C programs to call these stored procs
    e.g.
    EXEC SQL EXECUTE
    BEGIN owner.fees_calc.some_fee(:parm1,...);
    END;
    END-EXEC;
    Now, I am trying to use SQLJ to call this same stored proc in the package. However, I am getting a compilation error from sqlj saying that it cannot find a stored procedure or function of that name. It works fine if I use a stored proc that is not in a package.
    So how do I call a stored procedure within a package? Or is this not currently possible with sqlj?
    I am also getting a warning just before the error and I'm wondering if the error is being caused by this:
    Warning: You are using an Oracle JDBC driver, but connecting to a non-Oracle database. SQLJ will perform JDBC-generic SQL checking.
    I am connecting to an Oracle 7.3.3 database using an Oracle 7.3.4 JDBC driver. I also tried using the Oracle 8.0.5 JDBC driver for the same database but I get the same warning message.

    I used the following code to call a stored
    procedure via SQLJ:
    try {
    #sql [iCtx] {
    CALL ibs.cvs_validate.validate_port_id(:IN record_id ,:IN poe_pod_flag,:IN port_id,:OUT error_code,:OUT error_message) };
    where
    "ibs" is the schema
    "cvs_validate" is the package
    "validate_port_id" is the procedure
    The code runs fine, but to get it to compile
    in JDeveloper 2.0, I had to disable the "Check SQL semantics against database schema" option on the Project Properties (SQLJ) property sheet.
