Is it possible to load a dump file collected from sql server to orcle 10gR2

Hi..
As a part of data migration from legacy systems , we need to migrate only required tables from Sql server to Oracle 10gr2 .
At present client is telling that he will give it as dump file.
My question is , Is it possible to load the dump file collected from sql server to oracle 10gR2?
Thanks in advance ..

yes, it is.
Using for example SQL Developer Migration Workbench even allows you to create unload scripts for the desired SQL Server tables and it also creates the DDL scripts for you to create the Oracle tables similar to the SQL Server table AND it alows creates the SQL*Loader scripts that allow you to load the SQL Server generated dump file into the Oracle db.
Here the link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
If you do not want to use this utility, you can also use SQL*Loader to load the content of the SQL Server dump file into the Oracle database; but in this case you have to write the whole SQL*Loader control scripts on your own.

  • Is it possible to load multiple .xlsx files into a SQL Server Table using SSIS and a Foreach Loop Container when each Excel spreadsheet is comprised of two different worksheets

So we have an Invoice .xlsx File from a 3rd party vendor. It contains two worksheets..."Enrolled" and "Engaged". The data and data columns in each worksheet is different. Is it possible to loop through multiple .xlsx files using SSIS
and a Foreach Loop Container for each spreadsheet, and then another Foreach Loop Container to control each worksheet, and pump the Excel data into a SQL Server Table first for "Enrolled" and then for "Engaged"? How can I control the Foreach
Loop Container in SSIS to process ONLY the "Enrolled" worksheet first? And then the "Engaged" worksheet next?
I know I have multiples out here and I apologize for that...but right now it seems as though I take three steps forward and then two back.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

If the structure of the Excel sheets does not change from file to file then you can by having one ForEach Loop processing always the "Enrolled" sheet and another always the "Engaged" this is doable because the Excel OLEDB connector allows
to pick individual sheets, it is problematic therefore when sheet names themselves change.
    MSDN has an example: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/ms345182.aspx

  • How can I load a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS?

I know I've REALLY struggled with this before. I just don't understand why this has to be soooooo difficult.
I can very easily do a straight Data Pump of a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a normal Excel Connection and a normal Excel Source...simply converting Unicode to DT_STR and then using an OLE DB Destination of the SQL Server Table.
If I want to make the SSIS Package a little more flexible by allowing multiple .xlsX spreadsheets to be pumped in by using a Foreach Loop Container, the whole SSIS Package seems to go to hell in a hand basket. I simply do the following...
Put the Data Flow Task within the Foreach Loop Container
Add the Variable Mapping Variable User::FilePath that I defined as a Variable and a string within the FOreach Loop Container
I change the Excel Connection and its Expression to be ExcelFilePath ==> @[User::FilePath]
I then try and change the Excel Source and its Data Access Mode to Table Name or view name variable and provide the Variable Name User::FilePath
And that's when I run into trouble...
    Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]:SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occured. Error code: 0x80004005.
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]: Opening a rowset for "...(the EXACT Path and .xlsx File Name)...". Check that the object exists in the database. (And I know it's there!!!)
I don't understand by adding a Foreach Loop Container to try and make this as efficient as possible has caused such an error unless I'm overlooking something. I have even tried delaying my validations and that doesn't seem to help.
I have looked hard in Google and even YouTube to try and find a solution for this but for the life of me I cannot seem to find anything on pumping a .xlsX file into SQL Server using a Foreach Loop Container.
Can ANYONE please help me out here? I'm at the end of my rope trying to get this to work. I think the last time I was in this quandry, trying to pump a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS, I actually wrote a C# Script
to write the contents of the .xlsX File into a .csv File and then Actually used the .csv File to pump the data into a SQL Server Table.
Thanks for your review and am hoping and praying for a reply and solution.

    Hi ITBobbyP,
If I understand correctly, you want to load data from multiple sheets in an .xlsx file into a SQL Server table.
If in this scenario, please refer to the following tips:
The Foreach Loop container should be configured as shown below:
Enumerator: Foreach ADO.NET Schema Rowset Enumerator
Connection String: The OLE DB Connection String for the excel file.
    Schema: Tables.
In the Variable Mapping, map the variable to Sheet_Name, and change the Index from 0 to 2.
The connection string for Excel Connection Manager is the original one, we needn’t make any change.
Change Table Name or View name to the variable Sheet_Name.
If you want to load data from multiple sheets in multiple .xlsx files into a SQL Server table, please refer to following thread:

I am migrating data from sql servr 7 into oracle 9i. when doing capture phase i get the following error.
    ==>failed to load source model.[microsoft][odbc sql server][sql server]select permission
denied on column 'password' of object 'syslogins', database master, owner dbo.
Why is this so...is it bcz of something with my odbc link...
also is there any way to load only tables and not system tables when doing capture phase.
any help asap will be much appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi,
You must ensure that you have the correct password to login to SQL Server.
The Workbench requires some of the tables in the Master database.

Theres no much difference only that when loading from excel we store excel in CSV format.  In notepad we use seperators like comma aand write one row at a time, then next....
    Rest everything is same...
thats y it is preferable to load from excel as it is easier to represent and create...

  • Error during dump file Import  from 11g DB into XE database

    Hi ,
I have a dump file exported from a 11g database. First i imported this dump file into another 11gdb test database and it worked fine.
Later i tried to import it into an XE database. But import completed with error message as shown below. This error message appeared only for few tables.
IMP-00015: following statement failed because the object already exists:
Note - I created a new schema in XE database and tried to import the dump into this schema. So there is no chance for the object to exist before the import operation.
Does anyone have any idea why import in XE fails? Is there any limitation/restriction in XE?
FYI - All the tables that failed to import contains LOB data in it. Is LOB datatype is not supported in XE? Does this cause the problem during import?
    Regards,
    Ashok Kumar.G

Going from 11g to XE(10g) is problematic for two reasons 1st - 11g exports not necessarily compatible with an earlier version and 2nd I have found that in some cases 11g exports can have problems when importing back into another 11g(11.1.0.7) instance due to stack overruns whereas an 10g export to 11g normally works fine..

did not work?Generally we'll need a bit more info than "it didn't work", was there an ora-X error message? What was the error?
Assuming you're on *nix a 'C:\<folder name>\...' directory spec just plain won't work, the directory has to point to a valid storage location on the database server host.
Try a host command (at the database server) and make sure the .xml file name and location is valid, in sqlplus a "bang" (exclamation) runs a host command, i.e.:
    SQL> !ls -l /xdb/faq/testdata
    ... usr grp ... 2003.xml
...But if you are on windows, its the `host` command:
    SQL> host dir c:\drag_list\modified
    mm/dd/yyyy ... 2011.xml
...  The create directory ... as ... must point to a valid storage location for it to work, at least that is step one.

  • Using flash to display images from sql server or file system

    hello,
what methods and parameters of the urlloader class we have to use to display images in a flash player if possible..
also movie should update everytime a new image is added to a database or file
the images can either be in a file system or in a sql database (if possible)
does flash comes with an object of this type or we have to create it.
    regards,

i responded to your duplicate message 4 days ago:
is it possible to insert and retrieve images from sql server using actionscript.
you'll need server-side script to query your database and you can use the flash urlloader class to call your script.
also  is it possible to create a flash scrolling gallery based on images  stored in a database and everytime an image is added it is displayed in  the gallery.
load the data using the urlloader class and  then load the images.  periodically query the database for new images if  there's no direct way for flash to know a new image was added.

    Hi Everybody,
I need to load dimension members from SQL server 2005 to Essbase outline:
    Option 1:
I can retrive members from SQL to text file and then using Rule files load dimension members into outline.
    option 2:
Using SQL Interface in System 9.
    Option 3:
I can use ETL tools (ODI, Informatica etc)
I used Option 3 frequently and familier with, But i would like to use option 1 & option 2. If anybody has used option 1/2 kindly advice with correct steps
I would be very greatful for any help.
    Version: 9.3.1

    Hi Kumar,
    For Option 2:
You have to create one DSN for the particular database(SQL Server) from where you want to retrieve the data.
Then Open Data Prep Editor and From File Menu Click on Open SQL and it will ask for the DSN connection details.
Enter the DSN details and write the query....

is there any alternate method to do this and and populate table in oracle db faster.Part of the performance overhead is pulling that data from SQL-Server to Oracle across the network link between them. This can be sped up by compressing the data first - and then transferring that across the network.
For example: using +bcp+ to export the data on the SQL-Server box to a CSV file, compress/zip the file, scp/sftp the file to Oracle, and then unzipping it there. Parallel and direct load processing can now be done using SQL*Loader to load the CSV into Oracle.
If this is a Linux/Unix base system, then the unzip/decompress process can be run in parallel with the SQL*Loader process by creating a pipe between the two - where the unzip process writes uncompressed data into the pipe and SQL*Loader reads and loads data as it becomes available via the pipe.
Alternatively, you can do you own PQ processing. Let's say the data is date ranged. You can create a procedure on Oracle that looks something like this:
    {code}
create or replace procedure CopyDay( day date ) is
    begin
    insert /*+ append */ into local_tab select * from remote_tab@remotedb where col_day = day;
-- add logging info, commit, etc.
    end;
    {code}
You can now start 10 or more of these for different days and run it in the background using DBMS_JOB.
