Is it possible to read a specified record from a table.

Hi:
I met a problem when I I was designing a report by using Crystal Report 2008, the problem is that I want to display some data from an incident table, and the limitation for my query is assignment.group ="Customer Support", while the "Customer Support" is a dynamic value, it was stored in another table -- environment, suppose there are two field in environment table, one is name, another is group.
environment
name(PK)                           group
customer support                   Customer Support
approval                           CCB
and I don't want to hard code my query like assignment.group ="Customer Support", what I want is to get the customer support group name from the environment table. the name for "Customer Support" group in environment table is a constant. is there a way I can do this?
By the way
1) there is no link between incident and environment table. and the name value is a constant. it won't change, but the group name might be change to adjust customer requirement.
2) my ODBC driver has limited function. it does not support complex query SQL.

thanks a lot for your patience.
Prompt the user to input the group name in the parameter dialog is an option. But my test show it doesn't show a drop list in the parameter dialog(I hope it show all the group name in the drop list that was queried from environment table). I am not sure whether crystal report doesn't support this future or i miss used it.
and most important, what I really want is that I just want to look for the group field in environment table with name="customer support", I need to use this query result to do some logical computation in report. and I think that it is unappropriated to expose this procedure to the end user.
Is it possible for Crystal Report 2008 to accomplish this?

There is one solution from my side.
1. Include the Decision table in a BRF+ function.
2. Set the input and result of the function.
3. Call the function in the ABAP.
4. Get the record from result.
Please find the call function logic in ABAP as below.

You can mainly read records from MDM (in a DDIC structure) using ABAP API's using the following function modules/methods:
1. RETRIEVE: This is used to generically retrieve records from tables. Attributes and Values can also be retrieved.
2. RETRIEVE SIMPLE: Retrieve records from MDM in a simple way.( simple data types).
3. RETRIEVE CHECKOUT: Retrieves all checked out ID's.
4. RETRIEVE ATTRIBUTES: Retrieves attribute(s) from a Taxanomy table.
You will find all these methods in the following interface
Interface : IF_MDM_CORE_SERVICES

Is it possible to read a mySQL database from an ABAP report?

We have some information stored in a mySQL database which is now required on ABAP reports.
Is it possible to read the mySQL database from an ABAP report? I'm still a bit confused on that.
So far I have setup DBCO with information about the mySQL server using MMS as the DBS because mySQL was not an option. I have made sure we have the latest dbmssslib.dll installed.
When I try to run the following code
EXEC SQL.
    CONNECT TO :con
ENDEXEC.
I get error: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Then I have tried to connect using the function CHECK_CONNECTION_SDB.
I get the following messages in the return table:
1     OS-AppServ:Windows NT
2     dbmcli_neg: no_client_software
3     dbmrfc_c_neg: no_client_software
4     dbmrfc_s_neg: no_client_software
5     sql_neg
6     work_proc: 1
Does anyone know what I need to do to connect to the mySQL database.

Thank you for your reply. I've gone through all the documentation you sent and much more and I'm still not sure what the problem is.
One thing that concerns me is that this all relates to MS SQL server and I'm trying to link to a mySQL database. Is this even possible?
Some posts talk about changing Oracle settings and having J2EE installed. Is this necessary to connect to a mySQL database via ABAP?
Which user should I enter into DBCO? Is it the mySQL server user or a SAP user? Does the person in charge of the mySQL database need to add any permissions for SAP to access the database or is that done by the user in DBCO?
Does anyone have any more advice?

Delete records from multiple table

Hi Tim,
Syntax of DELETE statement does not allow for multiple tables to be specified in this way. Infact, none of the DMLs allow you to specify table names like this.
Technically, there are other ways of deleting from multiple tables with one statement.
1. "Use a trigger":
What was probably meant by this is that you have a driving-table on which you create a on-delete trigger. In this trigger, you write the logic for deleting from other tables that you want to delete from.
This does mean a one-time effort of writing the trigger. But the actual DML operation of deleting from all the tables would be simply triggered by a delete on driving-table.
2. Dynamic SQL:
Write a PL/SQL code to open a cursor with table-names from which you want the data to be deleted from. In the cursor-for loop, write a dynamic SQL using the table-name to delete from that table.
3. Using Foreign-Key constraint with Cascade-Delete:
This I feel is a more 'cleaner' way of doing this.
Having to delete data from multiple tables means that there is some kind of parent-child relationship between your tables. These relationships can be implemented in database using foreign-key constraints. While creating foreign-key constraint give the 'on delete cascade' clause to ensure that whenever data is deleted from parent-table, its dependent data is deleted from child-table.
Using foreign-key constraint you can create a heirarchy of parent-child relationships and still your DELETE would be simple as you would only have to delete from parent-table.
IMPORTANT: Implementing foreign-key constraints would also impact other DML operations that you should keep in mind.

Inserting records from internal table to database table

i want to insert records from internal table to zDatabase table, can u plz guide me which statement is better in performance to insert the records.
1) insert one by one record from internal table

2) insert total records at a time

Insert the entire table at atime rather than a record so as to increase the performance.
you can use INSERT <dbtabname> CLIENT SPECIFIED FROM TABLE itab.
or
MODIFY ZPRODUCT FROM TABLE GI_AFPO.

Java is involving because an Outsourcing new project. The outsourcing company is developing the new application using JSF which invoke an interface java method [depending of the operation: select, update, insert] and them invoke the PLSQL API to precess tha operation.
In the case I already wrote here, the issue is this:
The user search for a specific data using the interface. The java method send a request for these operation through the API. the PLSQL process the request and return a beam, with all the column the user look for.
The user see the information in the application windows. Assuming the user wants to change some data, he modify just one field [lets say telephone number] and press the update button. The application process the request using a different method, which invoke a different function within the PLSQL API.
Once the information is returning to the API, I must know if at least one field change its value. So I was thinking to get the beam with the data before it was changed and compare it with the beam with the changing data.

I am working on Oracle Apps - 11.5.8 version.
I have some doubts in deleting the records from MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS table.
There are few records which have junk characters and currently resides in table.
I need to delete those records.
But as per the approach; we should not delete any data directly from MTL table as it would cause huge impact.
I have followed the below approach; but didnt worked out well.

You have to use the delete item utility of Oracle Inventory.
Responsibility: Inventory Superuser or similar
Navigation: Items -> Delete Items
Enter a meaningful name in the Group field.
Type - Item
Select the organization you want to delete the item from.
In the details section, enter the items you want to delete.
Once all the items entered, click on the "Chcek Group" button. This will validate whether the items you have entered are eligible to delete (i.e. whether any child record such as transactions exist).
It will submit a concurrent program and once the program finishes you will be able to see the result in the Results tab.
Finally click on the "Delete Group" button to delete the eligible items.

You can create separate 3 datasources for three tables and extract data to BW. There you can implement business login to build relation between this data.

Need assistance searching records from multiple tables - Please Help!

Hi, I've been trying to solve this problem for several weeks now, and I have exhausted all of my knowledge and experience. I need help, and I hope someone here can give me some direction.
I am using VB 2008, and the CR that comes bundled with VS 2008 Pro. My database is a SQL Server 2005 CE v3.5 (a *.sdf file). I am connecting to the database through a dataset, and I am displaying the report in a CrystalReportViewer.
My dataset consistes of two tables:
1) tblCustomers which has a primary key "CustID", and contains only customer contact and personal information.
2) tblDateVisited which has a primary key of "VisitID", but it also has a column titled "CustID". Basically, every time a customer visits the business, details of that visit are recorded in tblDateVisited, and that record is associated with the customer by their CustID.
Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: I want to be able to display only Customer records when the customer has visited and that visit matches certain criteria. Right now, I am trying to match visits from the "tblVisitDate.PlayerType" column. If the customer has ever had a visit where they matched a particular player type, I want to see those customer records.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, though. I can search a dataset if I am only querying one table and pulling records from that table. However, whenever I try to add a second table and perform queries on that table to get records from the first table, I can't return any records.
If it helps, I am trying to use one CrystalReportViewer to display multiple reports (user choice) and here's how I'm loading the report into the viewer:

No, I am connected via ADO.NET. I don't think SQL CE can connect through ODBC (or if it can, I haven't been able to figure out how, yet). So this isn't a stored procedure.
When I examine the link, I can only choose an Inner Join or a Left Outer Join. Right Outer and Full Outer are not available. Could this be a problem with the dataset I'm using?
Could you explain what you mean by display all of the records and then choose the selection criteria?

Hi Folks,
How to get the records from the table starting with character 'D'.
Select Max (fld1) fron tab1 into tab1-fld1 where fld 2 = l_fld2 and starting character of fld(1) is 'D'.
last record in the table starting with character 'D'
How can i do that??

Help with listing records from two tables

Hi: I have two tables joined by the first field. The field is primary key in first table. Need help listing records from both tables with each record one line/record.

there are around 200 tables, I want to take a export of all tables of xyz schema.
My requirement is just a few records of primary key and their relevant records from other tables to be exported by using exp or expdp utility.
