Is it possible to save a PDF to always open with a table of contents

Hi
We have a large doccuemnt that we would like to send out with a table of contents on the left hand side so that people can jump to the topic/subject they are looking for without having to scroll through the doccument, we have a contents page with links to the relevant page number but we want the same option down the side so as they are reading the doccument they can click on a subject they way without having to back to to the first page or scrolling through, is this possible?

Thanks, we have the full version, how do we do this?
thanks

how to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.

    hi mateys,
you may want to search under "PDF" in the Nokia Store, as some solutions such as Picsel Smart Office exist, where they do open password-protected PDF's.

Now it's impossible to save PDF files to memory or SD card because Windows Phone 8 simply doesn't allow this action for 3d party apps.
That's why all available readers can't do it.

  • Printing "save as pdf postscript" yields problem with paper size

when I "save as pdf postscript" my 8.5 by 8.5 pages doc, it shrinks and ends up right justified in the PDFX1A 2001 version...this only happens with this particular file--all I can think is that I used a lot of text wrapping around graphs and that messed it up, please help!

nevermind! I figured out the problem--I needed to click on "view" and check "hide comments", which were being included in the PDF, making it smalled on the left side of the page
    thanks anyway AppleFolks

  • Just recently when I go to save a document as a pdf (Mac. OS X 10.5.8) (Print save as pdf ) I cannot open the saved pdf. I get an error message that the file is corrupt or there has been an error.

I use both aol and Yahoo for email - the problem appears in both. It does not happen in Word.
This computer is on a wireless home network, but the error mssg appears no matter where I save the PDF. This is not a problem in Safari.

{Ctrl + P} and select your printer in the Printer - Name box near the top of that window.

  • Word to PDF does not keep hyperlinks in Table of Contents ?

I have used my free trial of Adobe CreatePDF before purchasing the annual subscription.
I was surprised to see that the PDF document did not keep the clickable hyperlinks that Word uses in a Table of Contents. As this is the exact same behaviour as the "Save as PDF ..." option that I have natively available on my computer I don't see the point of paying a subscription to the service. Or am I doing something wrong?
    MAC OS X Lion (10.7.2)
    Office for Mac 2011
150-page .doc document with Section, Chapter, and various Heading Styles defined
    WORD automatically-built Table of Contents
In the WORD document, the page numbers in the Table of Contents are hyperlinks to the concerned page
Convert WORD to PDF using "Save as PDF ..." option in the "Print..." dialog box
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Convert WORD to PDF using Adobe CreatePDF
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Am I missing something or is this the way it is intended (not) to work?
P.S.: I know that, on the MAC, I can use Preview to manipulate the PDF document I obtain through "Print..." > "Save as PDF...". One of the things I can do is to select the page numbers in the Table of Contents and add a 'link' to each. But this is a VERY cumbersome process. Actually, I have to create a link for each page number, one at a time, on a table of contents that may consist of in excess of 50 entries. As I have a collection of 50-odd documents and am on a schedule of distributing new versions every two weeks or so, this procedure is completely unusable. Hence my search for a (paid) service that converts my documents while preserving the hyperlinks of the Word-created Table of Contents. Either I am doing something wrong or such service does simply not exist ...

    Good day fgrexsg,
You are correct in that the workflow you described will not produce links in the resulting PDF files.  The steps that Lori outlined work great if you're working on Office for Windows in terms of getting the links to work when converting using the CreatePDF service.
In order to make this work on the Mac, you'll have to take a few extra steps within Office first.
You're going to have to repeat this step for each item in your TOC.  While this will be time-consuming for a 150-page document, it will work.
Within your TOC, highlight the entire entry listing (e.g. Topic 1.........3)
Once the entire line is highlighted, choose Insert > Hyperlink
Click 'Document' to select a location within the current document.
Under the 'Anchor' option, either type in the Heading/Sub-heading (must be exact) of the page you want the hyperlink to attach to or click 'Locate' and find the proper Heading/Sub-heading within the structure.
As I said, this will probably be time-consuming on such a large document, but it will work.
Unfortunately Office for Mac just simply isn't as full-featured as its Windows counterpart.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

    Hi Gordon,
Can you please try opening the following PDF: http://samplepdf.com/sample.pdf.
Do try to open it in browser by clicking the abobe link and in Adobe Reader itself by Right-Click on link->"Save link as".
If you still getting these error, uninstall Reader using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and reinstall Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader.

  • PDF file Not opening in Main Table

    Hi,
I have added PDF lookup field in my main Table in console.
I m able to import PDF file in PDF table ( after making Allow Invalid PDFs as YES)
I have also imported PDF file in Main table field.
But here PDF file is not opening.
I m able to open PDF file only in PDF table & not in main table.
Also i am not able to Generate Thumbnail.
    I m getting error:
    Regenerating thumbnail for 'Mahi.pdf'...failed.
    Regeneration of thumbnails complete.
Can anybody tell me what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Mahi

    Hi Maheshwari,
I have added PDF lookup field in my main Table in console.
I m able to import PDF file in PDF table ( after making Allow Invalid PDFs as YES)
I have also imported PDF file in Main table field.
But here PDF file is not opening.
You can link the pdf to the Main tabel record by two ways:
    1. Using Import Manager
    2. Using Data Manager itself.
I have just tried it by the second way and I am able to open the Pdf in the Main Table itself.
    PLease follow these step below:
    1. Import the Pdf in the Pdf table and store the Pdf in the repository itself by choosing the Option - +Store in Repository+
2.Go to Main Table and double click on the Look up field on the right side. GO to the Data Group Tab and add the Data Group you have created.
    3. Then choose the pdf you want to choose for that particular main table record. You will find the PDf getting attached in the Main Table Record.
    4. Now try and open the Pdf, HopefullyYou will find it opening in the Main Table itself .
    Hope it helps.

  • Adobe PDF Pack - Can I create a Table of Contents in combined PDF files I am creating?

Can I create in Adobe PDF Pack a table of contents for PDF files I am combining?
If the answer is YES do I name each of the PDF documents name the name I want the page to be named in the Table of Contents?
    Thank  you.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
When you combine files into a single PDF, each file you include will have a bookmark in the Bookmarks panel in Acrobat/Reader. So, I suppose you could treat that as a Table of Contents. (It doesn't, however, create a separate TOC and append it to the file.) The bookmark names reflect the filename of each file you combined.
I hope that answers your question.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Why do some pdf files not open with Adobe Reader X, most open OK?

On my wife's 64 bit WIN 7 computer, a some pdf files will not open, but most open OK.
She uses Acrobat Reader X and MS Office 2010.
The same problem files open with no problem on my very similar computer.
Is the problem with some setting on the Acrobat Reader or something else?
Sometimes there is this error message when the problem files do not open:
Find Click2run64.msi file to install MS Office Click to Run.
But MS Office Click to Run is already installed on her PC.  It is not on my PC.
    Thanks for your help.

The latest Reader is 11.0.01, not 11.0.1.  It is named Adobe Reader XI.
I did uninstall the Reader X and installed this latest one.
But it did not solve the problem, still could not open the problem pdf's .
I did find the problem was caused by the MS Office Click to Run error referred to in my original message.  As far as I know we have no use for that on my wife's computer. Not sure how it got there.   I uninstalled it and so far the problem pdf's open fine now.  Problem solved.
    Thanks for your help.

    per http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333544.html#main_Configuring_the_browser_to_open_PDF_files_wi thin_the_browser_window
Configuring the browser to open PDF files within the browser window
When you install Acrobat or Adobe Reader on a system that includes a browser, you automatically configure the browser to open PDF files within the browser window. Acrobat and Adobe Reader install ActiveX plug-in files that allow you to use Internet Explorer or AOL to open PDF files. If either application is installed, but PDF files don't open in the browser window, then work through the following steps to configure the browser.
Make sure that the ActiveX folder contains files required for web browsing.
To open PDF files in a browser window, the ActiveX folder must contain the following files: AcroPDF.dll, AcroIEHelper.dll, and pdfshell.dll.
The ActiveX controls should be located in: Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX
If any of these files are missing, then repair Acrobat or Adobe Reader by choosing Help > Repair Acrobat Installation, or reinstalling the application.
Restart Windows to make sure all registry changes are registered,
